Mag Safe Power Cord Warranty

In november I had to replace my power cord. The person that I brought it to at the apple store said that I was lucky that I brought it in when I did because it was getting so warm that a fire could have started anytime.
I bought a new 85W power cord but now where the cord attaches to the magnetic computer-end plug the wires are exposed as the plastic no longer meets.
I'm worried that this will cause future problems and wanted to do something about it asap in case the item is still under warranty. Does anyone know if replacement purchases of chargers are under warranty? Or where I can contact support to see for myself? I poked around the support pages for a while, but couldn't find help that fit this category.

Sounds like the OP purchased an 85W Power Adapter and the cable by the MagSafe adapter is what's fraying.
I'd definitely recommend bringing it into an Apple Store immediately for further assistance.

I purchased my MacBook Pro 13" from the Apple Store in Tucson, AZ, in mid-January. Since then, every time the Mag-Safe cord is jostled, not even disconnected, sparks fly from the power terminal on the computer, the computer shuts down, and dumps its passwords, as well as the date and time.
Any work in progress is also lost.
I work overseas, and Apple's advice was to give them my credit card number, await shipment of a new power supply and cord, and then, when I return the old power supply and cord, i'd receive a credit. That won't work, as packages from the US to my location take weeks if they arrive at all. There is no Apple Store within a reasonable distance. Or, Apple suggests, when I'm home on leave in mid-June, I should bring the computer to the Apple Store for repair--I have only days in which to do that, but I suppose I'll need to try. My concern is that I'll need to return overseas without my computer and won't be able to retrieve it for months, until my next leave.
This issue shows up elsewhere online. Is there a short in the power terminal in the computer, or on the Mag-Safe power cord, or within the computer itself? It's a known issue, thus I wonder why it hasn't been fixed.

Mag safe power cord Mac air 11"

This is really frustading - I bought a MacBook air just less then year ago and I can even charge it anymore. The mag safe charger starter to work intermittently and wanted to find out what it was causing this so I started to scout the Apple support. One of official solution apple provides deals with line noise. So I did what they suggest, which is to remove charger from wall and wait 30 seconds or so and plug it back in. This was working for a time but now stoped working altogether. Do you think I need a new cord? I mean it's practically still brand new. Can a charger fry so soon? And should apple replace? I was in an apple store recently ( in Naperville Illinois) and the genius told me they didn't even look at power cords. Please can someone help me guide to what is the best approach to this issue ?

All we can do is suggest you take it to an Apple retailer. If the computer is in warranty and should the charger need replacing, then it should be covered under the warranty.

The power cords themselves are interchangeable. The magnetic connectors can work with each other. And I believe a 60W charger could power a MBP that require 85W (though recharging will be somewhat slower).
So, it's most interchangeable!

Mag Safe Power Adaptot Cord Coming Apart

My early 2011 MBP mag safe power adaptor cord jacket is soft and peeling like a bannana see picture. I have never had one of my PC notebook cords fail this way. It's almost as if the cord jacket is made from biodegradable plant material perhaps it is?
Will Apple replace this out of warranty as a manufacturing defect?

I wish I could have said that about the Apple employees at my local Apple Store, they basically wheren't having any of it, there arguement was the the Warranty would be only covered if split was from the below the L shape connecter, and above the battery.

Is there lead in the Mag Safe power adapter's cord/cable?

I was just wondering if there is lead in the Mag Safe power adapter's cord/cable specifically, and if there is any in apple's cords/cables in general. I couldn't find anywhere to email apple about it.

I don't have specific information, but the power adapter is certified for use in the EU, and the EU has very strict lead-free requirements. Chances are the printed circuit board inside the power adapter also is manufactured with lead-free solder. Bismuth can be substituted for lead, though the resulting amalgam will have a higher melting point, so is harder to work with and increases assembly costs a little bit. Despite economic incentive to use lead, responsible manufacturing can avoid it.
There are probably much more significant exposure risks in your environment than the cord on your MacBook charger. If your home is over 20 years old and has copper pipes, chances are they were sweated together with lead bearing solder. Also, old faucets often contain lead in their parts.
Even if the cord did contain lead, it isn't likely to ablate into your environment; avoid chewing on the cord, and don't allow children or pets to chew the cord either.

Mag-Safe Power Adapters and Apple Care

In the event that my Mag-Safe power adapter breaks, is it covered under my 1 year apple care?
I've heard quite a few people claim that they break easily.

If the 'break' is caused by user abuse, then, no, it wouldn't be covered under the standard warranty.
If Apple determines that the problem lies in the manufacturing of the adapter and not user abuse, then, yes, it would be covered under the standard warranty.
It's pretty easy to take care of the adapter - I've never had to have one replaced. Treat it with some 'dignity' and you won't need to replace it.

My power adapter broke, so I just purchased a Mag Safe power adapter. My computer works when it is plugged in, but it says that there are no batteries available, and it is not charging.
Is there a difference between the two, and what could be the problem?

What exactly do you mean? There is only one AC adapter for the MacBook and it is a Mag Safe adapter, what are you refering to when you say portable adapter?

The kit contains all the plug ends needed to travel around the world. the small flat bladed square piece that slides on the 60 watt mag safe charger for use in north america was lost on vacation. I purchased this kit because it appeared to contain two plug adapters that looked exactly the same, one flat blade and one flat blade with holes at the end. when i tried one of the ends nothing happened (no charge).Wondering if it contaians a resistor inside? Mac offered only to replace it if it was faulty, but
I lost mine.

I cajt believe they did it again. Just opened my new MBA and they changed the mag safe connector so I cant use my current power supplies from my older MBA which is only a year old. Is there a converter so that I can use my older power supplies of which I have two.

It should have come with the MagSafe 2 charger. If you haven't got it, return your MacBook and get another one.

Mag safe Power adapter on the 11inch and 13inch MBA

Are they the same? Apple.com says they are both 45watt chargers, But on the 11inch it says 35-watt an hour v.s. the 13 inch saying 55-watt an hour. I would assume this is how many watts the computer actually draws? If someone could clear this up for me that would be great! =)

Both machines use the smaller form factor power adapter (45W). What they're referring to with the 35-watt-hour (11") and 50-watt-hour (13") is the battery.
A watt-hour (Wh) is what many electronics manufacturers use as their system of measurement for battery and power consumption. Whereas one watt of power expended for one hour of time.
The higher the number, the longer the run time. It also usually means the larger the battery would need to be.
13" MBP - 63.5 Wh
15" MBP - 77.5 Wh
17" MBP - 95 Wh
Above are the values for the MacBook Pro and you can see the battery in the 17" is a beast. It's also got a lot of power under the hood that it's need to run. So the numbers have a direct relation with the requirements of the machine.

Mag Safe power adapter

I have no idea about technical matters!!!!! This is my first Mac!!!! Please explain (dumb down) technical jargon the best you can.
When I plug my macbook up to charge, the green light on the charger keeps flashing (not in any sort of sequence just dimming). Only got the macbook and charger 2 weeks ago. What does it mean? My macbook says its fully charger on the screen but the battery indicator says otherwise and so does the percentage next to the battery life. Occasionally the light doesn't come on all for a while. What can I do to fix this? Don't want to plug my laptop in to charge at the moment until this problem is resolved.

OK. That sounds unusual. Usually when it isn't connected to a computer, the light is off. I know I said that the computer controls the signal, but if the mechanism controlling the light is broken, then that might be it.
If they're an authorised (my spelling is in deference to your location) reseller and service center, then they might do just that.

Can a charger used for the MacBook also be used for the MacBook Pro? One is 60w the other is 85, I believe.

You are correct as to the wattages. Yes, the Macbook adapter can be used with a Macbook Pro, but it will not perform adequately enough to maintain a charge. At some point with it connected, and while you are using the Macbook Pro, the Macbook Pro will begin to use some battery power. Continued use will drain the battery entirely.
On the other hand, the battery can be charged by the Macbook adapter, but only when the Macbook Pro is shut down or sleeping.
