Magenta cast on Nikon compressed files

Now that we have an update which corrects this problem, how do we fix those images which have already been damaged???

Maybe I am using incorrect terminology...the files still show as magenta in LightRoom, but not in Photoshop. They are NEF files. In fact, they show normal colors with any program I open them in or view them in except LightRoom. How can I get rid ot the cast??? Thanks for your help and thanks for the ACR update.

  • Stong Magenta Cast on Nikon D1x Compressed Raw files

I had to get some shots that I took in 2003 with my D1x. I'm on a MAC with Lightroom 1.3. I imported the photo's into Lightroom. I noticed something strange.
Some of the the images first displayed correctly in the grid view. bus as lightroom created the higher res thumbnails, the images developed a very strong magenta cast. Reminded me of slide film when the color developer was going bad. But some of the other images were fine, I had about 2000 from the shoot.
It took a while, but I did discover the differences between the files that displayed correctly and those that didn't. The difference was that the ones displayed incorrectly were Compressed RAW. I was beginning to run short of storage on the shoot and changed to the compressed option for about the last 200 or so shots.
If I ask Lightroom to open them in Photoshop CS3, they open as PSD with the same strong cast. Not good at all.
I then used Bridge to look at the files, they also show up with the sme strong magenta cast in bridge. But, when I open them in Camera Raw, they display fine and when I send them to Photoshop, they open correctly.
So I can use the files, but I'm wondering. Has anyone else noticed this? Is Adobe aware of this?
I looked for an article in the Knowledge Base and looked through the forum messages. I didn;t find anything except for an item in the forum about D100 files displaying the same as mine.

i just started having the same problem except that my magenta cast happens when i open an image through raw then ps and save from ps to a file. If i save from bridge or adobe raw there is no problem. I only get the cast when saved from ps and to jpeg and if viewed through bridge. have no idea what to do.

  • Magenta Cast on exported Images

I am working on a Macbook Pro connected to an external Ezio Monitor.
When I work on files in Lightroom the images appear fine. When I export them as JPEGs, I send them out using Adobe 1998 as the profile, or SRGB files. The photos will have a magenta cast to them. I read posts talking about ProPhoto RGB but that is no better, in fact it is worse.
This never used to be the case, now I don't know what is going on.

It is my experience with Canon "pro level" printers is, they tend to have a redish bias.  This is very difficult to remove.
Canon engineers seem to prefer this warm look. This is built in.
However, on portraits I do like it, too. They look very nice. But on other stuff I know your problem.
I sometimes add a small amount of a 'coolong' filter in Photoshop. This usually counter-acts the built in warming effect of the printer. Remember a small amount, a little is good, a lot is not.  It will look slightly blueish on your screen. I mean sloightly!
    Hope this helps.

  • Reading a compress file in a jar.  JarFile or JarInputStream?

I am trying to read a file out of a jar file. With the following code. Depending on where the file is I get different types of Objects returned. The file is quite big so I would like to compress it in the jar file. When I compress it I cannot use it. It works for the first two cases. On the third case I get an out of memory error. On the third case I tried to cast it as a ZipFile or ZipInputStream I get a runtime exception in the casting.
What should I do to get this to work? I don't understand why Visual Cafe is telling me it is a ZipFile in the value section in the debugger.

CASE 3. File read out of a jar file compressed file.

Does anyone have any sample code that does this?
    Thanks

Since a jar file is a zip file, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to compress the data twice. I would do one of these two things:
    1. Zip your data separately but do not include in your jar.
Instead, provide the zip along with your jar file. Place a reference to your zip in the manifest of your jar -> in the Class-Path attribute.
    2. Let the jar zip your data up for you.
Either way, I like to use the system classloader to grab data:
    InputStream is = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("whatever.resource");-Ron

  • All Paper Profiles = Magenta Cast...Display Profiles are fine

    R3000 - Windows 7 - 64 bit - Lightroom 5.6 - Print Module
Tried every possible combination of printer driver Mode and Profile (under Color Management tab in print module).
Using OFF (no color adjustment), as recommended by Epson or Epson Standard or ICM with any paper profile produces either very dark images or heavy Magenta Color Cast.  The only setting that produce a proper print (or Print to: JPEG file for that matter) are Adobe RGB mode and Adobe RGB Profile (I believe SRGB works as well).  I'm baffled.  I have a properly calibrated monitor and I've read all the manuals and message boards....I've downloaded new Epson profiles and Red River profiles...all produce heavy Magenta Cast....I cannot find a way to use a Paper ICC profile.

For what its worth I am posting screen shots of my "Windows 7 Color Management settings".
I use a Canon Pro9000 Mk11 so I cannot comment on how to turn off the color management in the Printer Drivers preferences, which needs to be done if you are selecting a color profile in Lightroom.
See if the additional info at this link helps.

  • Magenta cast on one account printed pic, not another

When I print a pic on my Canon 9000II printer, it has an overall heavy magenta cast.,  Printing the same pic from my wife;s account, normal color.  Any idea where there is a setting I can change in my account to give proper color?  I have recently installed 2 photo apps----Sigma SPP 5.5, and Iridient digital photo developer.  IMac 27, OSX 10.6.8 fully up to date. 2 accounts, mine and wife's, both administrator.

For number 1, login to your wife's account (or have her do it if you don't know her password), then open the System Preferences and click on Displays. Click on the Color tab. The profile highlighted in gray is the one being used by that account:
Then you need to find out if it's in the main root /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder, or in her user account Profiles folder (~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles). To find out where it is, click the Open Profile button. The ColorSync Utility will open and load the profile. You're not going to modify it, just find its location. Command click on the name of the profile at the top of it's window. The path will be shown. In the case of my profile, its in the root Library folder:
If it were in her user account, it would read from the bottom up as the Computer_Name > Users > her_user_account_name > Library > ColorSync > Profiles. Close ColorSync Utility. If you accidentally changed something (unlikely) and it asks to save the file, quit without saving.
If it's in the root Library folder, you don't need to do anything other than login to your account and then choose the same profile in the System Preferences. If it's in her user account, while you're still logged into that account, copy the profile anywhere into the root Library folder. Logout and login to your account and move the copied profile into the Profiles folder of your user account. Then choose that profile in the System Preferences.

  • LR4.1 Printing with magenta cast?

    Hello Adobe
I have just moved to LR4.1 from a bridge/PS6 workflow. I am having issues with the prints having a magenta cast. I have a colour managed workflow (Eizo ColourEdge monitor, Datacolour calibration, Epsom R3000 using paper manufacturers icc profiles). The magenta cast is happening when printing through LR4 using the papers icc profile. Same file is fine when printed with the same profile through CS6.
I can see some questions with the same issue but cannot see a resolution that is applicable. Is it you or me? Help please

Many thanks. Problem solved- instead of "No colour Adjustment" the setting was "sRGB". All good now

  • Magenta cast on 50d's sRAWs

is it possible that nobody noticed it? I used to use LR for managing all my photos, as i only shoot RAW. recently i've changed the camera though to Canon's 50D. I was looking forward to it's 7.1Mpx sRAW mode dor casual photos and full resolution for bigger projects. Unfortunately it lasted very shortly. Is it possible that nobody noticed strong magenta cast on bigger (7.1) sRAW files? Acctually if you shoot three photos - RAW, sRAW1 and sRAW2 each of them will look somehow different. Canon has already corrected this mistake in their DPP (it looked exactly the same there) but i still want to use LR for all the worklflow and things. Now i'm forced to use huge RAWs (at least 20MB each) instead of handy sRAWs.
    Please do something with it,

ps. i'm writing this as the issue still hasn't changed even though ACR 5.4 RC was released :/

I also have the problem described here.
    I have a Canon EOS 5D Mk2.
Photos taken at ISO200 and the smaller RAW format exhibit this issue.
All photos that were taken this year and processed with ACR 6.4 and 6.4.1 have exhibited this issue. I don't think this issue used to happen with the original version of ACR that came with Photoshop CS5.
I updated my camera firmware 2 years ago, but that is too long ago to have caused this problem as I was getting good results from it immediately after the firmware update.
In ACR, changing the Camera profile to any setting other than "Adobe Standard" helped. Also the slider below it named shadows helped when I moved it towards the green (left) side.
However it was difficult to get a satisfactory looking color balance overall, and there were still noisy magenta artefacts in the underexposed shadows.
Installed Canon Digital Photo Professional (3.10.1.0) on my PC today and compared the images. Wow! DPP ones look stunning on the default settings compared to the ACR processed ones. No color cast at all.
So I will return to using Canon DPP and then use PTLens to correct distortion, and manually correct chromatic aberration. Less automation but better quality results.
If this issue is addressed I'm happy to help test ACR.
Here are sample RAW files (CR2 and XMP) exhibiting the issue described:
    Normal Exposure      XMP
    Darker Exposure      XMP

  • How do I manage color printing to remove magenta cast?

Right now I am working on a Win 7 64 computer and have a Canon MP810 printer.  I read the materials on color management and set my color management in "Print" in Lightroom 4 to "managed by printer".   My printer color management in advanced settings is set all to defaults.  When I print a photo from Lightroom 4, there is a distinct magenta cast to the entire photo, but it's most observable in midtone neutrals.  A burnt out section of a lightbulb goes white, for instance, but greys seem to go pinkish, greens to a rust, etc.  I also printed the same photo from a windows file, using Windows 7 print mode.  That photo seemed to go slightly magenta in the neutrals but not nearly to the same degree.  Can anyone advise me on what I might try or test to see if I can get my print colors more accurate?  Many thanks.

The Canon printer driver installation did install some profiles for various Canon papers.
The ICC profiles installed for the printer appear as follows.
    (1) Printer model name
    (2) Media type:
Each alphabet pair represents its respective Media type.
PR = Photo Paper Pro and Photo Paper Pro II
SP = Photo Paper Plus Glossy
    MP = Matte Photo Paper
SG = Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss
GL = Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
PT = Photo Paper Pro Platinum
Note: You may not have all of the above profiles depending on your model printer. Please see your user's guide for supported paper types.
    (3) Print quality
The numbers correspond to the numbers on the print quality slide bar in the [Set Print Quality] dialog box opened from the [Print Quality] tab of the driver. The lower the number, the finer the quality.
To turn off ICM in the printer driver select Page Setup in LR (Print module) and then the properties for you printer. In the printer drivers Main Tab select Color Adjustments: Manual, Click on Set and remove the check mark next to Enable ICM. In the same dialog set all sliders to its default of 0.
While on the Main Tab in the printer driver select the correct Media Type, select Print quality Custom, Click on Set and select the Quality according to the profile you intend to use (see above) and select Diffusion.
In LR Color Management in the Print module:
If you don't see any profiles, only Managed by Printer, select Other. In the window opening you will see all printer/paper profiles installed (have Include Display profiles unchecked). Check all profiles that you would like to use from within LR for printing and hit OK. Now select the appropriate profile (see above) you intend to use from the drop down instead of Managed by Printer.
    That's it.

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

If I want to see the data Do I need to uncompress the file.
con't we see the data without uncompressing the file?.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Uncompress is required to read the content of an Compressed file.
OPEN DATASET DSN FOR OUTPUT FILTER 'compress'.
OPEN DATASET DSN FOR INPUT FILTER 'uncompress'.
The first OPEN statement opens the file so that the displayed data can be read into it in compressed form.
The second OPEN statement opens the file so that the data is decompressed when it is read from the file.

  • Dark prints using CS5 & Epson R2400 ongoing problem, now new PC and magenta cast

Have tried every combination of set up in trying to solve problem. Had One Eye (now defunct lamp) various experts etc etc but compensated for dark prints by having screen lightened to bizarre point. Now having a new PC am faced with massive magenta cast. I really don't want to buy a new printer but have had the dark print problem since I got it. Have spoken to Adobe and Epson at length but eventually washed their hands. I feel it is something to do within the computer set up or Photoshop - don't think its printer problem. All drivers updated regularly. Thought it could be monitor problem but don't really think this is the case.
Any ideas welcome as I think I have tried everything. Use Windows 7.
Am retired and not very technically minded!  Serious amateur photographer.

I have an Epson 1280 printer, and I have the same problem with prints. Part of the problem are the different color profiles in the monitor and the printer. The other problem to deal with is the type of photo paper used. While looking at web sites, I found that the ICC Color Profiles for the printer are on the install disc and are not automatically installed. One of the links describes which folder to install the profiles on both Mac & Windows computers.
As station_two wrote, calibrate your monitor first.
Below is a link about calibrating.

I do not have an exact answer for you because I have not figured it out myself, but here is what I have been doing on my prints. I might recommend that you work on a copy of the original.
In the Layer floating window, create a New Adjustment Layer by clicking on the half black/half white circle, and choose Hue/Saturation or Color Balance or Selective Color. Because the prints come out too red, you want to increase the green sliders, which is the opposite of red, and/or decrease the red. (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance) is another way to do it.
Under the menu item Image>Adjust Levels. Move the center triangle at the bottom to lighten the mid-range, or use the center dialog box and change it to 1.20 or 1.30, for example.
Now press Print with Preview (but you really are not going to print).
When the dialog box comes up, make sure the Print Space: dropdown is set to Epson Paper or whatever you are using.
I have been using Relative Colorimetric. Press Print. Another dialog box will come up. At the bottom will be a button for Preview, which will generate a preview of what the photo will look like if printed.
Keep going back to the original and double click on the Adjustment Layer and adjusting it until the Print Preview looks ok.
Be sure when you actually print that the paper and color settings in the Epson dialog box match your settings in Photoshop. There is a dropdown that has Print Settings or Color. Often they don't match unless you print several photos in a row. I have found printing at the lower settings (less than 360 dpi) also messes up the color.
It is not an excellent solution, but until I can figure out more, I am in the same boat as you.
I'd suggest saving the lightening and color adjustments as two different Actions.

  • Reading a Compressed File from a ZIP File, which is an entry of ZIP File

    Hello, Experts,
Would it be possible somebody to help me with code example for the following problem?
I want to read a compressed file from a ZIP file, which is an entry of ZIP File, without extacting/writing files on file system. Is this possible?
Lets say we have a ZipFile1. There is ZipFile2 inside ZipFile1. And inside ZipFile2 is FileA. The scenario is reading FileA without extracting on file system.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Cheers
    RADY

The classes you want to be using are java.util.zip.ZipInputStream and and ZipEntry from the same package. Construct the ZipInputStream with the input you have for the outer zip. Loop with ZipInputStream.getNextEntry until you find the inner zip you're looking for - that method returns a ZipEntry, and you get the name of the zip entry with ZipEntry.getName. Read the ZipInputStream from that point into some buffer, and read that buffer into a new ZipInputStream - rinse and repeat until you have the contents of the file in the zip in the zip...

I hope i can explain this correctly, I apologize in advance.
