Magenta dotted vertical line 7.2cm from right-edge of Macbook Pro Retina display

There is a magenta-colored dotted vertical line 7.2cm from right-edge of Macbook Pro Retina display.
It is most prominent on a solid dark gray or blue background.
Just wanting to see if anyone else has experienced this.
Have requested a replacement. Laptop is 2 days old.

Here a short follow-up on this issue. I called Apple about this problem. I need to get the laptop to an ASP for display exchange. The ASP said ordering new parts and repair will take around two days. At least this is good news.
Apple would have only sent a new laptop within a 14 day grace period after delivery. As soon as your out of this time you'll only get repairs.

  • Macbook pro Retina display USB port right is 2.0?

I got a new macbook pro with retina display. It says on the website that there should be two USB 3.0 on both side. I have a external hard drive that is 3.0 USB i plug it to the right side and the colour indicates that it is a USB 3.0, plugging it to the right side, turned green and that indicate a 2.0 Instead. So what is going on?

I actually had the same experience this morning as you described. I plugged my USB 3.0 WD My Passport external drive into the left port (right port empty) and it negotiated to USB 3.0 (USB 3.0 SuperSpeed bus). After I ejected the drive, unplugged it; then plugged it into the right port it negotiated to USB 2.0 (USB 3.0 High Speed bus). So, I unplugged the USB cable from the right port and rebooted. This didn't fix it.
The solution for me was to leave the USB cable plugged into right port and unplug the end to the device. Then plug it back in. After doing this, the drive in the right port negotiated to USB 3.0. I followed the information in this Apple article.
USB 3 devices are not activating or not appearing on the USB 3 bus. What could be wrong?
Sometimes unplugging and plugging the device back in can resolve the issue.
Try plugging the device into another USB port on the computer.
    Try restarting your computer.

  • 13" Macbook Pro Retina Display showing coloured vertical lines

    Hi,
I bought this laptop in Jan 2014 and within 4 months, the display has started showing vertical coloured lines.
What can be done about it? is this covered in the one-year warranty given by Apple?

Run the hardware test that came with it.   Boot with the 'D' key.  If unrevealing, you either have a graphics chip issue, or RAM issue, or your inverter cable or board are damaged.   Note: if the machine resists movement of the display back beyond a certain amount, you shouldn't force it back any further.  Among other things, the cable can get damaged if you force it back more than it should be forced.    If you had RAM or other things installed the people who did that installation, may have made the hinge too tight or not tight enough, leading to the cable being more at risk of getting damaged.  If you dropped the machine, or spilled anything on it, you are likely to get a stiff repair bill.   Good luck!

  • Sound only coming from one speaker on Macbook Pro Retina

I recently discovered, due to the lack of saxaphone solo's while listening to DMB, that one side of my speakers doesn't work. No sound comes from the right speaker, resulting in loss basically half of a song. The left side works fine, but zero sound comes from the right. Suggestions?

  • Migrated from MBP with moutain lion to new macbook pro retina display and now I have lion os

After migrating from a time machine backup and logging in (had problems with that too and had to restart user password) the os version is 10.7.4 when it should be 10.8.2
Went to the app store and I have to pay again to get the upgrade.. Do i have to pay again???
    Thanks!

    Hi again, Juan.
OK this is just a guess but I believe that when you set up your rMBP from your old MBP you used TM restore not Migration Assistant. What happened is that you installed your old system OS10.7.4 and all files.
Using Migration Assistant (MA) would not have overwritten your OS.
See this taken from Finder Help....
    Recover your entire system
If you use Time Machine to back up your computer, you can recover your system’s contents if your system or startup disk is damaged.
Important: Only use your Time Machine backup to restore your system to the computer that is the source of the backup. If you want to use your backup to transfer your information to a new computer, use Migration Assistant.
Transfer your info from a computer or disk
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your backup disk is on a network, make sure your computer is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” and then click Continue.
Depending on your type of backup disk, do one of the following:
If you use an external disk, select it and click Continue.
If you use a Time Capsule, choose your AirPort network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If you use a network disk, select it and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, and then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system from a Time Machine backup, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
I suggest you make an appoint at the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store and they will help you restore your computer. Make sure you take in your old MBP and your Time Machine back up disk as well.
Do not use instructions above for a TM restore now, because it will only reinstall Lion 10.7.4 not ML 10.8.X.
You need to reinstall ML first and then I think all of your problems will go away.
So did I guess right? Did you launch TM and restore or did you launch Migration Assistant to move files?
Hope this helps, if you cannot get to the Apple Store, I can try to walk you through reinstalling ML, but first we need to download a copy of ML.

  • Line in Macbook Pro retina display late 2013 model

there is the very thin line on the screen sometimes pink, red, green colour. towards the left side of the screen. the line goes of sometimes comes back.  I have read many people had this problem, but the posts was last years. is this hardware or software problem?

Take the MBPr back to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check it out while still under warranty...a graphics module problem will need their attention.

  • White horizontal line on macbook pro retina display

When I scroll through photos, sometimes a white horizontal line will span the screen for a short time. It will span the whole screen for less than a fraction of a second so it was difficult to take a photo of it. I managed to do it but here the line is only halfway across the photo I was looking at.
Does anyone know what this line is and how I can avoid having it?

  • Can I transfer Microsoft Office from my Macbook Pro (2008) to my new Macbook Pro (Retina Display)?

    Hi guys,
So I recently decided to upgrade to a newer model of my Macbook. As we all know, Apple have had to remove the CD/DVD drive in order to make the new models thinner and lighter, and so now I can't install Microsoft Office 2011 from the disk that was used to install it onto my old Macbook.
I don't particluarly want to part with any money for a USB to CD/DVD drive, and so I was wondering if there was a way of simply copying or moving the old microsoft office onto my new macbook?
    Thanks in advance

There are basically two choices; but first you must remove Office from your old Mac (be sure to do that first).   This is important because you need to remove the license file and other stuff in order to be able to reuse your license on your new Mac.   Then, you can do either of the following:
Get an external Superdrive and install Office on your new Mac, using the Office install DVD.  I suggest this is the better alternative.
Download Office 2011 from Microsoft and install online

  • Install logic 9 upgrade from logic 7  on macbook pro retina

i bought a new MBP retina, (no disc drive) and want to install logic. my logic studio 9 is an upgrade from logic pro 7, and the 7 won't run on the new com.
So how do I do this install?

Could be you khave a corrupted Win 7 install file/files.
Try downloading the Win 7 ISO for the version you have from here.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit- direct-download-links/
Then burn that ISO to a USB or DVD, USB would be better.

  • In my macbook pro retina display 15"l there is a constant clicking noise, coming from the left side of the computer. Any ideas ?

It goes on constantly while the computer i s on, with like a 2 second delay, and to be honest it's driving me mad. I may just end up taking it in, but if I have to get it replaced I dont want to lose all my files and programs.

You should have a backup in the first place. If you don't, buy an external drive (they're inexpensive these days) and make a Time Machine or a clone backup (using Carbon Copy Cloner).
Then take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and let them diagnose the computer. See if they can isolate what may possibly be making the 'clicking' sound.

  • How do I downgrade my MacBook Pro Retina Display from Mountain Lion to Lion?

I have a brand new MacBook Pro Retina Display that came with OS X 10.8.1.
I´m an audio engineer so I work with Pro Tools, tons of plug-ins etc... Some of my software doesn't work with Mountain Lion just yet. Some of them haven't upgraded, and some of them I need to purchase a latest version, which is not cheap at all in the audio world. So I'd like to hang on to Lion for a while until I decide to upgrade everything to Mountain Lion.
I've seen other posts about this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4148927?start=0&tstart=0
This one in particular managed to make the downgrade. However, he used to have OS X 10.7.4 in his retina display when he bought it. Which is something that doesn't happen in my case.
If you read the other post you can see that several methods have been tried.
Is it really safe to completely erase my hard drive and to a clean install of Lion? Will it work perfectly fine on my Retina Display?
I went to one Apple Store, and the guy asked around and told me they haven't done it before, so since they didn't know whether it was going to work they couldn't do it. He told me to do it myself and if something happened to my laptop, "just bring it in and we'll reinstall the stock OS X again."
Since the laptop is brand new I don't mind erasing everything, all my stuff is already backed up.
    So help me please?

The short of it is if it came with 10.8.1 you can't install an OS less than that.
