Magic Bullet Look Suite 2 Messing Up FCP

I just installed Magic Bullet Look Suite 2, and now whenever I try to open FCP it tells me it has quit unexpectedly. You know when you first open the program, and as it's loading there's that box in the middle of the screen with the name and logo of the application? Well, in there you can see all the parts of FCP that it's loading, and when it gets to Magic Bullet Look Suite 2, that's when it closes. I've tried restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the files, but every time it causes FCP to close. Does anyone have a solution so that I can use Look Suite 2 without FCP closing every time?

I had an older version of the Magic Bullet plug ins and I just downloaded the newer version and my serial number worked fine.
I did actually have one of the filters crash a render yesterday... so not all is good on my system either.

  • 100% cpu AE7 using Magic Bullet Look Suite 2.0

    Hi
My pc is over 2Ghz and has 2 gigs of Ram and a high speed hard drive. My video is onboard but usually does very well with video rendering.
The only problem I seem to have is with Look Suite 2.0. I dont bother trying out the latest because it doesnt work with onboard video.
Anyway, 2.0 used to work perfectly fine for the 2 weeks I was rendering. But, recently it started giving me the "unknown exception caught by look suite" error. There does not seem to be a real fix for this.
But I monitored task manager for awhile while compiling projects. Loading effects filters like Curves, Twixtor and others didnt phase the CPU a bit. But after loading Look Suite and going through the presets, all of suddent the cpu went 100% and never came back down as long as AE7 is open. Even if I disable the plugins nothing changes.
So I tried saving the project with the plugins disabled in the composition. Then closed AE and reopened the project. Instant 100% cpu. Next, I deleted the Look Suite plugin from the composition. Reopened the project and everything was perfectly fine.
LOOK SUITE has some kind of incompatibility issue either with AE7 or another plugin that was running. I cannot be sure.
But the bottom line is this. Who's responsible? Adobe or Red Giant?
Red Giant doesn't seem to have a clue what to do. I dont want to upgrade to a version that works only with higher end graphics. I tried changing memory settings in AE and it really isnt needed. I am guessing the "unknown exception" is caused from the CPU overload because it pegs out the cpu while rendering and uses more and more of the page file as it runs, until it finally fails. But if Looks Suite wasn't already loading up on the cpu I would not have a problem. And, a week ago it wasn't hogging the resources. SOmething went snap.
    Sorry for the long rambling.

Nope, CPU usage and RAM usage are more or less unrelated. CPU usage is merely dependent on the number of threads/ sub-threads/ handles fired by a program and since the Celeron D only handles a limited number of them, it is quite predictable that it will frequently peak an queue requests it cannot process immediately, when e.g. on a Xeon the same operation would barely register. Updating the processor may improve performance, but it mostly depends on the kind of effects you are using. If they are not particularly computationally intensive like several color correction effects, the benefits will be minor. if on the other hand you use a lot of Blurs and Glows for instance, the speedup may be considerable. Regardles of this, having lots of RAM and processing power is never a bad idea ;-)

  • Does Magic Bullet Looks works with FCP X?

Hi guys, does magic bullet looks or mojo work with FCP X?

  • Crash upon return to FCP from Magic Bullet Looks

    Problem:
MacPro 2.8Ghz, Early 2008, Nvida 8800GT GFX Card, FCS3, Decklink HD 10.6.4, Magic Bullet Looks 3, ProRes 1080 footage cut on ProRes 720 timeline.
After returning from placing a grade on a clip in Looks, at the first click of the mouse inside FCP, the whole app crashes. Digital Rebellion - Crash Analyzer says is a Graphics Cards/ Driver issue and the crash is related to quick draw!.
Everything on the System is updated.
I don't believe that the GFX card needs to be updated and work on other suites using older hardware and don't have this issue.
Anyone know anything more as to why this would be happening?

    Hi -
Check this out - it restored functionality for me (don't know if this is the latest info, this is the link I had on file):

  • XML Crashing FCP while importing.  Magic Bullet Looks could be the problem

    Hi All,
    Need a little help here.
I am using FCP 6.0.5 on a power mac G-5.
I am trying to open an XML which was exported out of FCP 7 as a version 4 XML.
Magic Bullet Looks is being used on the project, and I think this is were the problem is.
when importing the XML it crashes FCP when I select the Include Video/Audio Effects.
When I import the XML without this option selected it opens fine.
I have MB Looks Installed on machine, so the Plugins are there.
Just wanted to see if anyone has dealt with this issue or might have any insight to the problem.
I can post the Crash info on the specific thread if that can help.
    Thanks!

Couldn't agree more Jim - hence why I'm not using Snow Leopard yet as I had a nightmare in the early adoption of an older operating system. As for MBL, there seem to be many using it without problems so I don't think it's an issue with the product per say and it really is a very good plug-in. (That view will change to excellent once the problems go away) I just need to get to the bottom of which square peg is destined for which round hole and I'm hopeful that all will be well. I've also submitted a support question to Magic Bullet so will update if I get a solution. I like the CleanApp idea. I'll try that as well. (and I may even give Snow Leopard a go!)

  • FCP Crashes while using Magic Bullet Looks

    Hi All,
We have recently installed Magic Bullet Looks onto our main edit machine. However, using it causes FCP to crash with really annoying regularity. It seems to be related to either auto save or thumbnails (opening a sequence with Looks applied and it will crash while loading the thumbnails onto the timeline for example - that could be a coincidence as it crashes in many other situations as well but always when working with MBL))
I've tried the usual preference trashing things but can't stop it happening. Anyone had any similar issues that they've been able to resolve? We aren't yet running Snow Leopard but I may try that as a potential solution.
If it matters - the machine is dual 3.2 quad core with 6GB of RAM running FCP 7. It also has a Blackmagic Extreme card (tried turning external video off - no difference)
    All thoughts greatly appreciated,
Regards and a happy new year to all,
    Richard

  • Has Anyone Been Able To Make A Custom Look In Magic Bullet Looks?

I believe a lot of FCP users also have Magic Bullet Looks installed. I also wonder whether you have been able to make a customised Look as described in the Help section?
I can alter a Look and go to File>Save and save it to a place of my choice.
However, I can't do it as described in the instructions, nor do I have a "Custom" folder.
This is how you are told to create your own Look:
+The name of the current preset Look is shown at the upper left of the Tool Chain. When a New Look is applied or No Look is chosen, the label will display Untitled Look. Double-click the name to enter edit mode. Clicking Enter again will create a new preset look with your custom name in a new category called Custom Looks.+
The Help instructions say double click the Look's name at the top left of the Toolbar and the edit mode will open.
All that happens is that I can alter the name but the moment I click it again it reverts to the original name (Untitled) and nothing is saved.
I am wondering if this works on PCs but not on Macs.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Got it at last!
For the benefit of anyone else who is puzzled, this is how it is done. The original instructions were actually accurate though confusing.
    1. Double click "Untitled" and add your new name.
    2. Simply click the Enter key and the highlighted name should return to normal.
    3. Your Look will now be available with all the others in a newly created folder called "Custom".
The original instructions were actually accurate though confusing

  • Image upside down in magic bullet looks viewer?

using fcp x 10.0.4 with magic bullet looks for weeks. Now when I apply looks and the looks viewer opens the image is upside down. Have deleted the looks preferences and then uninstalled and reinstalled but image remains inverted. How can I get image upright?

At first glance I thought it was a stunt pilot until I noticed the bit of ground at the top!
Seriously, I had the same problem after I updated FCP X to version 10.0.4.
Anyone else with this problem can cure it by updating Magic Bullet Looks to version 2.0.7

  • Film Convert Pro vs. Magic Bullet Color Suite

    All,
I'm currently in the process of considering to purchase Magic Bullet Color Suite, but I also see their is a product that some Dslr filmmakers use call Film Convert Pro, it costs a bit, but I want to know if this is something that is needed, if you already have the Magic Bullet Color Suite.
    Regards,
    Jamaine Semple

I own and have used both FilmConvert Pro and the MB suite and frankly, I recommend both...sort of.
FilmConvert is used to turn your video camera footage into what it would look like had you actually shot on film.  That's it's primary purpose and it works beautifully.  It can also do color correction as a secondary function, and that also works quite well.  I tested a problem clip with both FilmConvert and Colorista.  Viewed on my calibrated Sony Trinitron CRT HDTV, I had a very hard time telling the difference between the clips, meaning the correction on both looked great.  However, within the PP sequence, the FC corrected clips definitely ran smoother than the Colorista corrected clips.
Having said that, I notice that my SpeedGrade corrected clips run even better in PP than the FilmConvert clips.  And SG is far more powerful than either FilmConvert or Colorista.
So my recommendation is to use FilmConvert to 'convert' your video into film, and then use SpeedGrade to do any color correction and grading.  Where does that leave Magic Bullet?
I don't feel Colorista is necessary at this point, now that we can get any footage into SpeedGrade.  However, MB Looks still offers plenty of 'effects' that you may find useful.  Things like diffusion, vignettes, soft-focus, etc.  These are things that might well be possible to duplicate in other ways, but not with the ease and simplicity that Looks offers.  You may not need the full Suite, but I feel Looks is still worth having.

  • I am having problem when I am installing magic bullet look 1.4 please help

Hi, I am having an issue with my Red giant magic bullet look 1.4
When I am installing this plug ins I receive a message saying: your graphic card did not meet the minimum requirement but actually my graphic card did meet the requirement and I was looking at the requirement for this in website and my Gcard met the requirement.  Why is it not installing?
    please help me
    I use premiere pro CS3
    Win 7 OS 64bit
My graphic card is: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (Microsoft corporation-WDDM v1.1)
The minimum requirements for the plug ins are: Magic Bullet Looks supports a wide range of cards from both ATI or NVIDIA. For ATI cards, we require a 9600 XT or greater, or an X series card starting with the X700 series. Cards with greater model numbers and at least 128 MB of RAM can run the Looks engine.
For NVIDIA cards, we support the 6600 model and higher or QuadroFX 1300 and up. Cards with higher model numbers and a minimum of 128 MB of RAM can run Looks. For users working with HD images, we require that the video card have at least 256 MB of RAM. In all cases, we suggest using the latest video drivers for your graphics card.
Please Note Since all media is processed at 32 bit, you will absolutely need a 256 MB graphics card or larger. For newer cards from ATI and NVIDIA, we recommend a minimum of 320 MB of RAM. For 2K projects, we recommend 512 MB or a larger amount of RAM on the graphics card.

    Run this.

  • Red line with Magic Bullet Looks

Magic Bullet Looks in the Video Effects panel shows as a 32 GPU accelerated effect.
However, when I add it to a clip in timeline one, two or three, I go from no lines (including yellow) to a red line above that clip.
If it's a GPU accelerated effect why am I seeing a red line above the clip when I add that effect?
My card is a 285 that works fine with everthing else.

Magic Bullit Looks is not a accelerated effect, so that is why you are seeing the red line.
Effects with the icon on the left are accelerated.

  • After Effects CC 2014 Crashing with Magic Bullet Looks on Mac

    Hi,
I recently installed the upgrade to the latest After Effects CC 2014 v13.0 and found the Magic Bullet Looks now causes After Effects to crash. I'm using MBL v2.5.2
I opened the Activity Monitor and noticed that whenever the crash occurs the Adobe QT32 Server is in a state of (Not Responding)
On a clip I can apply the MBL plugin with no problems and even if I am copying a previously set up version from a previous clip, it applies and renders without trouble. I can click "Edit" on the plugin controls, open up the MBL control window and make all the adjustments I need without any trouble. The issue is when I then click either "Finished" or "Cancel" to go back to After Effects. The program freezes and I get the spinning wheel of death for about ten seconds and the the whole thing, MBL and AE shut down.
    I am running:
    MacBook Pro
    OS 10.9.4
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i72.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Cuda  6.0.54
The footage is Apple Quicktime ProRes HQ
I have Quicktime v10.3 installed and Quicktime Pro v7.6.6
I am at a loss as of how to fix or even work around this. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

There was a bug in MBL on Premiere CC 2014 that was causing crashing and lockups. Red Giant released an update quite quickly that so far seems to have fixed it for me. I know you're talking about AE but maybe there's some common code that was also fixed? As Rick says, have you checked the latest ver of MBL?

  • Adobe premiere pro cc 2014 freezing with magic bullet looks

    Hi-
I'm running windows 8 with this software and I'm getting intermittent crashing when trying to work on any project when I'm also using magic bullet Looks on it.  The frustrating thing is that it used to work fine in premiere Pro CC, but using the 2014 version is very unstable.  Also, I cannot go back to using the non-2014 version because the file format is incompatible with the older version and I don't have another version saved.  I've already done hours and hours of editing in 2014 only to keep having crashes.
Is anyone looking into this or has any recommendations so I can get work done.
    Thanks!
    -Lok

I don't use magic bullet Looks but is that a 3rd party plugin?
If yes, have you checked with the vendor to see if it needs to be updated for the new structure of CC 2014?

  • I just updated to new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. when it comes back to tcp x it's black.

I just updated to the new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. When i send a sample to MBL and color grade it , it comes back to final cut pro x all black even after render. By the way on the MBL i am using the GPU rendering, I used before like 4months ago and it was fine. And i don't like to use the CPU because it very slow.

What is the frame rate of the project? At what frame rate was the media recorded? What frame size?
    What are the audio settings?
What are the specs of the machine, in particular how much RAM, how is the hard drive connected, etc.?
If possible, post screenshots of the inspector for the project.
It could be related to the audio frequency?
