  • Magically Changing Icons on M$ Task Bar

    Hi,
In Windows XP (Windows NT), when you open multiple windows of a program, the programs become inconisized and grouped together under one menu icon with a name. For instance, opening Windows Explorer multiple times creates a menu on the task bar that displays the Windows Explorer Icon, the number of windows open, and the title of the program--Windows Explorer.
However, when I run my Java programs multiple times (or make many frames within a program) and iconisized them, they appear on the task bar as a menu with a little white window icon with a blue title, the number of windows (frames) open, and "java" or "javaw" beside it.
I know how to add icons to frames that is not the problem. What I don't know is how to keep my icon and application name on the task bar when windows (frames) or applications become grouped.
Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Spent 4 hours looking all over Sun's site, trying to find an answer. I've even tried to download some open source programs and tried to disect them to find the code. Sample code would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

    J Apprentice,
XP groups these together because they are using the same executable (java.exe). The name which appears in the taskbar group is gained for the exe's description attribute (take a look at the exe's properties from explorer) or , failing that, the name of the executable. The only way around this is to create a JNI wrapper executable which links to the JVM and calls your main method instead of executing java.exe. (BTW this is how java.exe works anyway). Some java installers create these wrappers for you.

  • Windows Task Bar Icon (Access 2013)

This is my first database I created from scratch in Access 2013, and I am not sure how to change my Windows Task Bar Icon use the Application Icon.  Not a huge deal, but to keep consistency between my systems, it would be nice to resolve.
How does one get Access 2013 to use the Application Icon to show in the Windows Task Bar when the program is launched?

    Hi Mark,
    >> it wasn't a big issue, it is just by assigning an Icon in Access 2010, the application magically had that same icon on the task bar showing open programs.<<
Based on my test, the icon in Windows Task Bar will not change after I assign an icon for Access 2010. I tested in Access 2010 on Windows 7, here is the screenshot for your reference:

  • Hi all, my mac book pro boots up, but my track pad operation is strange, cannot click on anything, although it moves around screen ok. Cannot launch anything, nor close anything. Cannot get task bar to pop up either with the mouse movement.

    Hi All,
My mac book pro 13". It boots ok and skype launches on boot up. connects to internet etc. However, whilst the mouse moves around the scren ok, used via the track pad, I cannot open anything, close anything, or get the task bar to pop up.
I can close the laptop down via the power key, and can use some short cut keys, but the track pad operation is iffy, can you suggest how I rectify this.
I have now solved this, for future reference, I have a magic track pad as well and that was connected via bluetooth and sitting else where in the house. It blocked the laptops trackpad operations. When disconnected, my laptop track pad works fine.
    Cheers

I know how to change icons on frames and task bars. It's when they frames become grouped that the task bar icon magically chnages.

  • Task bar notification icon doesn't work

If I use the two-finger swipe on my Magic Trackpad, I can show the Notification Center in Mountain Lion. However, if I click the little icon in the task bar (far upper right corner), nothing happens. By "nothing happens", I mean the icon inverses color when I click on it, but the Notification Center sidebar does not appear. There is no error or any other indication of why it would not show. Is this normal behavior?

The problem did not occur in the guest account. So this indicated a problem unique to my user account.
I next used Cocktail to check a setting. It has a System > Misc > Disable Notification Center option; however, it was not checked (i.e., it was the default). But I tried disabling Notification Center and re-enabling it, and this caused Notification Center to start working. (The old "turn off and on" trick.) However, after rebooting, Notification Center was back to not working again. Obviously not a solution.
So then I tried removing all the login items. This actually worked. I had quite a few, so there's no telling which might have been the culprit. The next step will be to re-add the ones I need, one at a time, and keep an eye on Notification Center.
For future reference, these were the login items I removed:
    FontExplorerXAutoload
    Air Mouse Server
    Caffeine
    Default Folder X Helper
    LaunchBar
    Activity Monitor
    TransmitMenu
    Typinator
    ShareToolAgent
    MicrosoftMouseHelper
    My Living Desktop Viewer

  • Unpin from Task bar AFTER program is deleted

I have a situation where I am trying to use PowerShell to Unpin a shortcut from the task bar after the program has been deleted. The shortcut has been renamed (from the idiotic name Autodesk used to start with) and thus it is orphaned after uninstall because
Windows doesn't manage these things gracefully. The code I am using uses the common approach of digging into the shortcut to extract the Verbs array, and then assigned the Unpin verb to $Verb and then does a $Verb.DoIt(). But of course the the target no longer
exists, so there is no Verbs object to dig a Verb out of.
I have found the various related posts, and there are issues
1: Deleting the reg key and losing all pinned items is a no go. I am removing one piece of software, and I want to remove that shortcut and no others.
2: I know I can do this manually, but my whole goal is automation, and the fact that I CAN do it manually suggests there should be a way to do it with PowerShell.
3: I have tried getting the Verb from the shortcut as well, but it seems like the shortcut really is just a passthrough to the Target, so no target, no Verb from the shortcut.
4: I have also tried just deleting the shortcut file from User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar, but that leaves an even more orphaned shortcut on the task bar, that not only doesn't have a target, it doesn't
even have an icon, just a white "page".
So, how does one get to whatever Verbs are being accessed when doing this manually? Is there some way to apply a generic Verb?
    Gordon

Okay so after some digging i found a way for you to do it but the best way i have found is using the actual user rights. I tested this out as a login script that ran before the user even saw their desktop.
The task bar has a registry key that has to be cleared and when explorer is started the key gets created based on the items listed in the directory the shortcuts are stored. If you have any issues let me know.
#Remove the chached settings in the registry. This will comeback once explorer is restarted
    get-item -path HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
remove-itemproperty -name Favorites, FavoritesRemovedChanges, FavoritesChanges, FavoritesResolve, FavoritesVersion -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
    Out-Null
    #Remove ShortCut From Current User:
    Remove-Item -Path "C:\Users\$($Env:UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Pandora.lnk" -Force -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Out-Null
    #Restart Explorer
    Stop-Process -Name "explorer" -Force | Out-Null
#once explorer stops it should restart itself

    Hello TY965,
Even after a restart the start menu and task bar do not come back?
Try these steps and let me know the outcome
    1. Launch task manager Ctrl + Shift + ESC
    2. Under processes look for explorer.exe
    3. Select it and End Process
    4. Next go to File and select New Task
    5. Type Explorer.exe and press OK
Observe behavior and see if the start menu and task bar come back

  • How to enable bluetooth icon in task bar in rmbp with windows 8

The bluetooth icon dose not be showed in task bar in rmbp with windows 8.
The device of bluetooth dose not work correctly in device manager of windows 8 with the yellow exclamation mark.
The windows system event log shows BTHUSB alerts and error with code of 3 and 17. The driver is unloaded.
Some apple magic mouse's functions can work, without sliding to navigate.
The current OS is in bios enumeration mode with MBR and The logged user is in the normal account and the bootcamp is newest.
I have remembered that the bluetooth was good without above problems when the windows 8 was installed firstly and the bootcamp can not work in administrator account. After being restored NVRAM with option+command+p+r and reinstalled windows 8 enterprise 64 completely again, it shows these problems when the bootcamp works well.
Except the first windows installation, the second time is selecting EFI boot and the last time is in normal mode,  which has no difference in the bluetooth problem. In a normal or administrator account,  the same problems appear.

The bluetooth drive problems have disappeared after the following steps:
    reset intel SMC
remove the bluetooth device with yellow mark.
scan system device changes. find 3 devices without any yellow mark: (a) Apple Broadcom Built-in Bluetooth, (b) Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator, (c) Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator.
find magic mouse and it works well with all functions. and the icon appears in the taskbar.
no BTHUSB error is  in system log.
I don't know the right reasons. Maybe the efi windows installation has changed rmbp efi settings.

  • Firefox opens, and preview shows when hover on the task bar link, but the window will not maximize, or show up at any size on my screen (Windows 7) Help?!

I am running Windows 7 and just updated Firefox to the 7.0 version. I can open Firefox, in the sense that I can run the application. I can see that it is open because the link shows up on my task bar, and when I hover over it I can see the thumbnail preview - which, incidentally says "You're almost there!"; but I can not open the window! I have tried clicking once on the task bar link, and once again (just in case I was clicking to minimize instead of maximize). I have tried double clicking the shortcuts on my desktop, then the one in my program files, as well as the one in my start menu, and the static one pinned to my task bar. I have tried accessing Firefox from every path available on my computer and I can open it every time, but *never* not even once have I been able to view it on my screen. I can't understand what would cause this and maybe I'm just an idiot but can anybody help me... please? Oh, and I don't know if it makes any difference, but I did try restoring 6.0 and I re installed 7.0 again, all to the same end... Many thanks to anyone willing to help me fix this!

-> [[Software Update Failed#w_run-as-administrator|Run as Administrator]]
-> right-click Firefox icon and choose Properties
    * go to Compatibility tab
    * click Use Resolution 640x480 pixels
    * click OK and start Firefox
-> Firefox will now start but you should be able to change the size of the window.
    * Close Firefox and now Uncheck the 640x480 resolution
    * Start Firefox again and now all should be fine
Check and tell if its working.

  • No task bar/menu bar or icons appear when I login into my main account, however this is not a problem with my guest accout

So was trying to use install disk ! to solve the problem but did not want to reinstall the system because I have not backed up many of my photographs.  Then the disk got stuck and would not come out so when I shut down and restarted I could not get past the gray screen.  Well I was able to solve the problem and remove the disk, and finally it would load to the login screen, although it took some time to get there.  Then when I log in to my main account the desktop will load but the task bar and icons will not its completely blank except for the wall paper.  When I login into my guest account there is not a problem everything is there and functional. I've been researching but have had no luck on a solution.  Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • When I boot up I get a complete white screen and can't access any thing including task bar. When I right click and hit properties it says it is a Firefox docum

I downloaded a video in a zip file, when it started the whole window went white. When I right click on the screen under properties it tells me it is a Firefox document. I rebooted to fix the problem and I saw a brief view of my wallpaper and desktop icons then back to the white screen. When I boot up or log in to the admin account (guest account is fine) I get a pure white screen. I cannot access any thing including the task bar. The only way out is to reboot and the problem repeats. I have booted with my anti virus program and it finds no problems. When I exit the anti virus program there is the brief view of the desktop and back to the white screen. HELP, I don't want to lose everything because I have to reload the OS.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.
