Magic Fix for broken IPod

Was going crazy trying to sync my Classic. It would get hung up on verification then tried to sync. i could not fix it until i decided to plug it into a pc. I then restored it to the pc format then plugged it into my mac and restored it to my mac. Works fine now.

I guess you've posted in the wrong part of the forum, this was the ipod touch section
But nice to know, that sometimes it is helpful to have a PC as well

  • Fix for unresponsive IPOD

I own a computer business and I have a lot of broken IPOD's come in the door. Last night I got one that I have never seen. It kept restarting itself. When it would come up there was a blue screen with data flashing.
The IPOD was unresponsive not showing up in iTunes or on "My Computer." I plugged it up to a Mac and still No Response. I got on here and read all of your posts about taking it apart and disconnecting the battery. I did that, and still, NOTHING.
Here is what I did to fix the iPod. It is very simple, but I thought I would share with you.
    1) Plug the iPod into any computer.
    2) Hold down the Menu and the select button for 20 seconds.
    3) When you let go, the apple symbol will come on. Immediately hold down the select button and the play button. Your computer should immediately recognize the iPod. (If it does not work the 1st time, try the sequence 3 or 4 times to insure that you got the sequence correct.)
I hope this helps some of you who are needlessly taking your iPod apart.

Yes, this is forcing the iPod into Disk Mode. Often this will work as well for an ipod that keeps rebooting over and over and never getting to the main menu. Once in Disk Mode, iTunes will often "see" it and you can now perform a restore on the iPod.

  • FIX FOR SOME IPODS!!!

This fix came from Caspar (Thank you SOOO much!). It took me 10 minutes to do this and now my beloved ipod nano is back! Hopefully this will help some of you:
Original Problem: Updated iTunes(6.0.5) and iPod nano (1.2). After the update, iTunes would not recognize my iPod and therefore would not let me remove the iPod from my computer, which seems to be the problem most people are having.
    The Fix:
*uninstall iTunes, iPod, and any updates (make sure anything related to these two programs are not on your computer)
    *Open Control Panel
*Click the "switch to classic view" link, if
    necessary
    *Double click "administrative tools"
    *Double click "computer management"
*Under "storage" click on "disk management"
    *Find your iPod's listing
*Right-click on it and click "format"
*Select "FAT32" and start the format
*After reformatting, remove iPod from computer
*Download iTunes directly from the Apple website (I didn't restart my computer at the prompt)
*Download 6/28/06 update for iPod (do NOT plug iPod in before doing this!)
*Open update for iPod and wait until prompt to plug iPod in (do not plug in early)
*Wait for the update....and there ya have it!!
Hopefully this will help some people, as I have spent the past 2 weeks doing the 5R's thing. After completing the steps above, I haven't had a problem with my iPod..and now my Nike+ works!! Thanks again, Caspar...you're a genius!!

  • IDEA 4 SIMPLE FIRMWARE FIX FOR BROKEN HOME BUTTONS!! SEND TO APPLE FEEDBACK

Apple, as you know many people have had problems with their home buttons on their ipod touches and iphones. I have figured out a simple fix to broken home buttons. Release a new firmware that makes it so if you double click the power button twice in quick succession it does the same as clicking the home button.I have never heard of people having trouble with their power button so this would be perfect. Please make this happen.

  • I heard a rumor that apple fixes a broken ipod screen for free is it true?

I broke my ipod screen and heard that apple would fix it if you take it to there store is it true?

Sometimes the genius at the Genius at the Genius Bar of an Apple store with do that. However, almost always Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price since a broken screen is not covered by the warranty.

  • Universal Fix for Broken clients, which can be deployed through sccm or can be run on the machines individually

    Hi Friends,
Often the service desk gets laptops from employees on which the client is broken or not getting policy updates
The Deskside team tries few steps
Reinstall the client using the cmd line
Run the "OSprovision" utility to add the machine back to domain
Run the "OSD Collection Utility " to Add the machine to a collection
However the sucess rate is less, i believe due to few reasons like, the OS image is old, missing pre requisites etc
so firstly i would like to know what all it takes to make the Client healthy, what all need to be checked to make sure it meets the pre requisites
Work around to fix the client, by remoting into the computer
Eventually i wish to build a Task Sequence which can be deployed to a collection, which will check the following
Does the computer meets the Pre requisites, if not it will install/reinstall the missing/corrupt pre requisites
installs/reinstalls the client ( wish to know how to execute the command line via task sequence, also if there is any other procedure to do the same )
runs the web based utility "osprovision" to add the machine if it has fallen out of domain
Adds the machine to appropriate collection utility
checks to make sure that the client is working fine after install/reinstall and is getting updates
Most importantly it should skip all the above steps if the client is already healthy
I am a new bee to the sccm, however i understand the concept, Please bear with me and help me step by step to complete this task,
also your idea's are most welcome for any updates/changes

If there was a magic bullet to keeping clients healthy, then keeping clients healthy would not be an issue.
However, ConfigMgr 2012 does have a a built-in client health tool called ccmeval -- this is run using a scheduled task on client systems every day and does a very good job of keeping clients healthy.
Using a task sequence or anything directly deployed by ConfigMgr won't work because its a catch-22: how is the ConfigMgr agent supposed to run a deployment if it or a dependent component is not healthy.
Other things to keep clients healthy:
    - Don't give users local admin privileges.
    - Beat users that hard shutdown or reboot systems (this is IMO the number 1 cause of client health issues)
    - Get rid of XP
    - Use client startup script that supplements ccmeval

  • Will apple fix a broken ipod touch screen

my friend smashed his ipod touch screen and its completly broken he bought it from futureshop and his dad threw out the recept but he got it a month ago will apple fix it?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price unless:
An iPod that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. For example, an iPod that has failed due to accidental damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. However, certain damage is ineligible for Out-of-Warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.

  • Fix for broken tool cursors in PS Elements 7 with Windows 8.1?

I have Photoshop Elements 7 and have been perfectly happy with it for editing photos/images as a hobby on my older Windows XP and Windows 7 PCs. I have no real need to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 12. I just installed  Windows 8.1 on my new Surface Pro and now all the tool cursors in PS Elements 7 are broken. Reinstalling PS Elements 7 did not work. All the  tools which use an actual graphic for a cursor appear distorted. What can I do to fix this?

Generally that's caused by the system dpi scaling
    (the triple cursor effect)
Go to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Make text and other items larger or smaller
Then try adjusting the size to Smaller
You might have to use Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays and use the Custom sizing options and choose something like 124% or 149%

  • How to fix a broken iPod touch 4 screen?

I have a really old iPod touch 4. It has a cracked screen (have a new iPod touch 5 but still use the 4th). I broke the screen almost 2 years ago and I want to fix it. It's black. Should I go to Apple to fix it or what?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • TIP: Fix for crashing iPods on (notebook) USB ports!

I've read many stories here about iPods crashing on updates, or otherwise behaving unpredictable whilst connected to a computer. I also encountered such problems.
Now I've found that, particularly on notebooks, there is an energy setting on the USB port(s) that is very likely to potentially cause problems if set incorrectly. This is especially true if USB-energy dependent devices like iPod are connected to it.
To fix this, go to: system management -> computer management -> appliances -> USB controllers. There double-click on 'USB main hub' (or right-click and choose 'properties'). Next go to the 'energy management' tab and uncheck 'allow computer to switch off this device to save energy'. Repeat for every USB hub you may want to use for iPod or any other USB-energy dependent device. *
Most likely this will fix any related problems.
    HTH!
    * NB: since my OS is in Dutch I've translated this into English myself. The exact terminology may therfore differ, but I'm sure you'll get the idea...
PS: if this fix is helpful for many folks encountering these problems, perhaps the Admin or Mods can make it a 'sticky' topic to help new iPod owners in the future?

There are several steps to get to the place in Windows.

    5) Expand the USB controllers nodes
    6) Locate the a USB Root Hub
    7) Right Mouse click and select properties or just double click
    8) In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog box select the Power Management Tab
    9) Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox.
    10) Click ok.

  • Help w/ fixing my broken ipod touch. I have to double click on an app in order to open it, can't leave the home screen, apps don't work!

I'm not sure what happened, but I can't leave my home screen unless I press n hold an app and move it to another page, then when i press the home button so the apps stop shaking I can stay on another page. Other than doing it that way I can't scroll from one page to another. When I click on an app a thin box appears around it, not only with apps but when I click on the time or battery or ANYTHING! In order for me to open any of the apps I have to double click on it and then when it opens I can't do anything in the app. Even when I went to settings to see if there was something in there to fix this problem I can't go anywhere or do anything. Someone please help!!!

Im having this same problem an my phone is about 3 weeks old. I am not sure about the voice over part though...I have not yet figured out how to work the voice recognition part of the phone...I am such a newbie with this phone. I did the power off/on suggestion, several times. I tried leaving it off for 10 minutes. Tried to reset with the power on/off and home button pressed at the same time. Charged battery. Still makes no difference. You cannot scroll any direction. Have to double click to open apps. Have to double click letters when texting or emailing in order to get the letter in the text box. Can scroll through app choices, have to click on the line with the dots in it and move from page to page. Can't access the settings - > general - > accessibility - because it won't allow me to scroll down to "general".
Anyone help you with your fix yet?

  • A fix for excessive iPod scratches!

I’ve participated in a number of message board discussions here regarding the iPod Nano excessive scratch issue. I myself am the owner of a white iPod Nano, and have experienced this problem. Here’s what seems to have worked for me:
I used some Novus 2 to gently buff out the scratches, as I’ve done with my other iPods, and have repeated this process several times over the past couple of days. Overall, I’ve been pleased with the results. Not only did it remove the noticeable scratches, but it also appears to have been beneficial in preventing new scratches from appearing.
Based on my own experience, I think this issue is caused by a thin invisible residue that is exposed when you remove the protective sticker from the iPod – part of the plastic manufacturing process maybe? Since I started applying Novus 2, I noticed that the surface of my iPod Nano is smoother than it was when I first removed the protective sticker and it doesn’t scratch as easily as it did before.
    Anyone else tried this?

Hi, just posted the comments below to a different message forum but based on my experience and the work required to get the scratches to go away, I'm thinking this was not due to a film. Even so, I'll see how the Nano looks with normal use now that I have the surface looking better.
    Rob
My white Nano that I purchased on 9/10 is also full of scratches, particularly visible over the screen. These showed up on the first day after placing the nano in a pocket with no other objects. Since then I have been very careful and still have gotten a few more "smudge scratches" that make viewing the screen difficult.
So I stopped in a different Apple store (traveling) and the sales guy said "yes, we are seen them scratch", then recommended Ice Creem by RadTech (http://www.radtech.us/Products/IceCreme.aspx) I just received it yesterday and about 30 min on the Nano with pretty good results. At least the screen is not distorted when viewing. Others may have different outcomes depending on severity of scratches, etc. Note, I have no association with RadTech, just a user.
Will I return my Nano? Not sure (I love it!) but it would be great to get objective feedback to resolve the possibility that some of us are victims of a "batch defect."

  • Why does apple need my password to fix my broken ipod classic?

Took my ipod in to curry's to be repaired and the shop assistant told me that apple needed my apple id and password for repairs, why is this?

Yep.  76 others. I'm the 77th one straight off of the assembly line.
As for plan A, there never was one.
Actually, it was a username/alias I had originally just thrown together when I first signed up. I had no idea I would stick around this long.

  • Home fix for broken usb mini port? (Zen Xtra 40g

I bought my zen xtra from a friend about a month ago, and it was in perfect condition. Recently it wasn't being recognized by my computer, and then the usb port on the player slipped into the casing. (I think it wasn't recognized by the comp because the port was starting to slip, which wasn't providing a solid connection) Anyway, I was wondering if I could buy a player from e-bay, one of the ones with a broken hard dri've or something, and replace the peice with the usb port? Is this something someone with a bit of knowledge of tinkering with electronics could do? I haven't opened the case to look yet, I wanted your opinion first.. I was also wondering, if I do buy the parts from e-bay.. can I use the parts from a 30 gig player or does it have to be the 40 gig? There are tons of parts for 30 gig players on e-bay, and not many for the 40's.... any help would be appreciated.
    -MArk

Yep, you can certainly do this (although eBay's always a risk). The best thing to do would be a swap of the hard disks. Rudi Cheow's guide has some detail about dismantling a Zen, but this is for an earlier player. The Xtra is a little different, but not a million miles away.

  • 10.4.11 -- A fix for broken brightness/volume keys

    Simple answer: Reboot again
I ran into this issue myself on my iBook: that after doing the mandatory reboot after the 10.4.11 update, the brightness and volume keys on the internal keyboard would no longer work.
This seems to be an issue for a few people, going by my initial googling of the issue, so I thought I'd drop a note in here to suggest people do another reboot before pulling out their hair.

BDAqua, no I haven't. I should probably do that again now.
Is that related to these kinds of issues, or is that just some general maintenance advice?
Edit: Ah I just saw your advice in [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1307351&tstart=0]. Cool.
