Magic Mouse a bit sluggish when moved diagonally?

Hi,
I just connected a Magic Mouse to my Macbook Pro, it appears to me that the tracking is a bit sluggish when moved diagonally, that is, when i move the mouse diagonally it appears to object to the notion and instead move either vertically or horizontally for a moment and then kick in moving vertically. This is more apparent when moving short distances than long ones.
Is it possible my magic mouse is defective? or that it requires additional setup/calibration?
Thank you.

Ditto on the complaints. I am very frustrated. I'll be working in Aperture, for example, with an album of several hundred photos I am in the process of rating. As I go to reach for the mouse to click on a particular photo, the mouse activates a scrolling function and POOF!... I'm at the top of my photo album, forced to scroll many rows of photos to get to that one I was about to click on. Google Maps is useless as well. iTunes also sporadically scrolls through music. My productivity is noticeably hindered by this phenomenon. As a result, I find myself grabbing the mouse like a fragile egg- just on its sides to prevent accidental scrolling.

  • Magic Mouse randomly "micro scrolls" when moving

I just bought a magic mouse to replace an older might mouse and it's exhibiting a new odd phenomenon. when moving around in web pages or in Mail, it occasionally scrolls a bit (~5 lines of text worth) in a window. when it does this i don't have any fingers on the touch surface (i've started to experiment to see what exactly causes this behavior) so I'm not "accidentally scrolling".
is anyone else experiencing this same behavior?

Running Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 is sluggish when moving between pictures on new iMac. I have a standard 21" iMac with 8 gb of RAM, but it still sticks for up to 30 seconds when switching pictures in organizer or other functions.  How can I get it more responsive?

... does my iMac model... support Hibernatemode 3 alias "Safe Sleep" to protect my Mac against damages due to power outage?
You can set hibernate mode to 3, but it seems to me its only benefit could be if power were to be lost after the iMac was already sleeping. Sleepimage is written to disk prior to system sleep. If your iMac lost power while it was "awake" you would certainly lose any unsaved work no matter what hibernate mode you choose.
The problem is that an iMac without power no longer sleeps, it's dead. Upon restoring power you need to cold boot, and I seriously doubt sleepimage can be forced to load in that event. Sleepimage is loaded upon wake from "safe sleep", not from boot as far as I know.
It is simple enough for you to try, so go ahead and see if it does what you want. Other than creating a 16 GB sleepimage file it did not appear to do anything beneficial on the iMac I am using though (a later model).
    The file location is /private/var/vm/sleepimage
Configure hibernatemode, verify the file is created, do some work on your Mac, don't save it to disk (and don't use Pages or similar app that saves work on its own), let it sleep, then pull the plug. I think you will see what I mean.

  • How can I prevent Magic Mouse from scrolling horizontally when I don't want it to?

I recently purchased a Magic Mouse to go with OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. It's a great mouse but it causes 2 problems:
If I leave it on "Scroll with interia" in System Preferences/Mouse, it scrolls horizontally when I don't want it to.  Since I mostly work in Word documents, I often lose my place in the document this way. On the other hand, checking "Scroll without inertia" makes vertical scrolling, which I do all the time, a lot harder.
The mouse seems to cause what I think of as "fractures" in Word documents--words and parts of sentences will disappear or get crunched together , then reappear when I select the place where they vanished.  They also reappear if I scroll vertically to get the problem area off the screen and then return to it. This wastes a lot of time at best; at worst, I'm afraid I'll lose work.  The problem occurred once in a while with a Logitech bluetooth mouse I was using, but not as bad and not all the time.
I love the mouse's ergonomics and would like to keep it, but if I can't solve this problem, I'll have to return it.  Would be very, very grateful for any tips!  Thanks.

Always nervous about recommending sites I have no personal experience of.  On the plus side it doesn't relate to any of the bad sites I am familiar with and it appears to be the developer's site ... but there is no contact point for you to ask questions.  You said in your initial post it was to go with Snow Leopard but this version says it is meant for 10.7 and above.   Did you notice that?   I also notice several other references to Word and mouse and one person found the solution lay in the updating of word 2011 to its highest level.   I can offer no more.

  • Magic Mouse ribght-clicking even when single-click mobe is enabled

I have a late 2007 MBP. I bought a Magic Mouse today, but when I paired it and downloaded the software for it, when "Secondary click" was not enabled, it would behave as if it was right-clicking. When I enable "Secondary Click", both left and right parts of the mouse right-click. What's going on here?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If it's under warranty you can either bring it to an AASP or call AppleCare at 800-275-2273. You don't need to bring it into a store if you don't have one in your area.

  • HT4930 My mouse suddenly started lagging when moving up and down. Left and Right seem to move fine. Waht's wrong?

My mouse has suddenly started lagging when moving up and down. Left and right movement seems fine. in fact, it's perfect. I tried changing the tracking speed to no avail. it sped up the left and right movement, but "up and down" still remain sketchy. HELP!!

    Hi Torrence,
You may have to suffer until you can get to your local artist's products store.   There you should be able to buy square metres of fine matt black felt (maybe in a shop selling materials too).   This makes an excellent and inexpensive base that looks good too.   Have used it for years.
Lay it on your desk and hold it in position with some double sided sticky tape.

  • Magic mouse lagging or unresponsive when using bootcamp windows 7 on Mac Mini but works fine in Mac OSX 10.8.4

I updated the Apple Broadcam built-in bluetooth radio software through Windows and it found an update. Updated Boot Camp software/drivers to version 5.0.33, the latest which includes a wireless mouse piece.  Replaced the batteries again and turn it off/on several times. In the Bluetooth menu, this mouse usually does not show up in connected devices or will not show up as a device that can be added.  Once it did show up right after turning it off/on but took forever to connect then lost its connection right away and couldn't be discovered again.
I don't think drivers are the issue, seems to be some kind of conflict with wireless adapter & bluetooth maybe.
I found this which looked promising but no luck:  http://kemal.co/index.php/2012/09/laggy-magic-mouse-boot-camp-windows/
    Any ideas?

  • System Sluggish when moving Files

    Hi
When copying files, usually in the GB range, 8-12Gb mostly. The whole system slows down and becomes sluggish.
I assume it is something to do with using external drives still setup as NTFS as a legacy from WIndows. It even slows down widgets like a ticking seconds option on a clock.
Is there any way round this, as it is quite a pain. I have noticed this since installing a couple of months ago, and I am on the latest kernel etc.
    Kernel : 3.17.1.1
    KDE 4.14.2
    8 Gb Ram
    Thanks for any advice.

Maybe it’s the infamous usb bug? (Look around the net. There are a lot of threads.) See for example this thread from a couple of weeks ago. If that’s the case, there is—sadly—no One True Solution as of now.

  • Magic Mouse extremely sluggish when Time Capsule starts

Why is my Magic Mouse becoming extremely sluggish when Time Capsule is backing up my data? This is really frustrating, I even stopped backing up my computer because the mouse is becoming almost impossible to use as soon as Time Capsule starts...
I've heard stories of interferences between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, can anyone confirm that and provide me with a way to solve the problem? Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE:
I think I've found a solution.... Though I'm a bit reluctant to post it already because I'd really like to see if it works over time... Anyway, here is the interesting post I found by Mr. Caliostro:
... sure, go into your Airport Utility application, inside Utilities inside Applications. Click on Manual Setup when your TC appears in the window. Click on the Wireless tab. You will find a pulldown menu there called Channel. Select your channel & Update your TC settings. I set mine to channel 1 to try it, & it made a tiny improvement. How close is your TC to your mac? Does the interference reduce if you ove further away? Perhaps swapping from 802.11g/n to 802.11n or vice-versa, may help? (depending if your setup can work on 11n-only). Perhaps switching from 2.5ghz to 5ghz or vice-versa may help? both 11n & 11g can work at 5ghz as well as 2.5ghz... Let me know how you go!
I set the 5GHz channel to 48 and the 2.4GHz to 1. Of course I changed these settings completely randomly since I don't know anything about these things but it actually seems to work pretty fine! No more sluggish mouse during Time Capsule back ups!

  • Installed SSD & replaced Superdrive with HDD. Magic Mouse now sluggish

It may be a coincedance but since I have installed a SSD (to replace to HDD) drive and replaced the Superdrive (DVD Drive) with the existing HDD (using a HD caddy), my Magic Mouse has been sluggish.
At first it seems that my Mac was overall slow but it seems that it was just getting a bit too hot - when I opened Mac and at same time gave things a clean, I made the fan less efficient and more noisy - its OK now. Still seem to be getting hotter than I remember but it is now summer and my apartment is pretty warm.
The heat is on the left hand side of the keyboard (what would be causing that??) and not on the side where the SDD or HDD is.
Anyway, going back to the mouse. It sluggish and lags a bit. I have tried brand new batteries and same problem.
    Any ideas??

I am hving the same issue.
magic mouse with hdd in original place + new SSD in optic drive bay.
OSX is on ssd bay. user on HDD.
Mouse seems to be sluggish when SSD is writing. Dropbox sync + time machine read/write etc.
Any insight on why this is would be great.

  • Sluggish drunk stumbling Magic Mouse

Help!   As we all have, we paid alot for quality and we are not receiving it.   Mac has done nothing to resolve the 10,000 help requests when it comes to their product, the magic mouse.
Issue: Magic Mouse performing with sluggish, drunk, lagging.
    What has been tried:
    Reseting  PRAM
    Deleting Plists
    rebooting after resting SMS
    uninstalling & reinstallng blutooth devices
Changing the frequency on my router to 1 & 3.
I've done it all and...... I've performed 2x a complete system reinstalls.   It works until the OS wants the updates and then the issue resolves all overagain.  ITS SOFTWARE RELEATED!!!!!!
SO, if anyone has other suggestions, help and new suggestions would gratefully appreciated.
The Macfrauds have spend a few hours and then they send me to the tech guys at the store, who over and over again say eventualy for a reinstall, which I'm not going to perform for a 3rd time.
    Please help.   THANK YOU!

I had this problem too. heres what I did... its like a checklist:
ok first, make sure you have really good batteries in it, "low" won't cut it.
2nd) if you have a desktop Mac (like MacPro etc) there is a T shaped antenna at the back. this sometimes gets loose and effects the signal between the mouse and the machine. take it out, clean off the plug part, reinstall it, make sure its making a good connection.
    3) clean out the scroll ball with rubbing alcohol, cotton ball, and one of those blowguns helps too. make sure there is no debris caught in the ball. hod it upside down, blow the airgun into it etc. this usually works for me.
worst case, buy a new mouse.

Check universal access in system preferences and see if you have zoom activated. When the screen is zoomed even a tiny bit one of the options is that the screen moves with the pointer. You can use option⌘- to make it normal and option⌘= to zoom.
