Magic Mouse -- almost unusable tracking.

My new magic mouse doesn't track well on almost any surface, including flat wood, mousepads , cardboard, and more. On the best surfaces, it still tracks with a jittery style. Is there something wrong with my bluetooth receiver, or is it the mouse?
I tried getting support by putting in the serial number, but Apple claims it doesn't exist.

Have you used any other bluetoth devices with this Mac in the past, ex. Keyboard, mighty mouse? If so did they cause you any trouble.
Remove any wireless phones or other wireless devices like other computers that use wireless and take them to another room or unplug form AC. Make sure that you do not have any external devices such as drives or printers attached to the Mac and then turn off your Macs Airport.
See if the problem persist!
If the problem still exist then call the Apple store where you purchased it and see about a return.
It is possible that the Bluetooth of the Mac is experiencing issues but the mouse is easier and cheaper to test and change.
Also make sure that you have the latest update for the Magic Mouse installed on you Mac:

Then I would download an install "Magic Prefs" and see if it helps with the problem.

Suddenly my magic mouse won't track around the screen properly, can anyone help? It was working fine then it started sticking. It scrolls from top to bottom fine just the on screen movement is effected. The battery is showing 100%, I've changed the fast/slow slider all the way to the right which has helped a little and unpaired it from bluetooth then re-paired it, did an SMC shut-down, cleaned ball, battery points but it still does not feel totally right? i just put my mac into sleepmode
apple logo left corner --> first option above restart
then i connected my magic mouse ( holding the button)
and then it worked

Magic Mouse barely/erratically tracks on any surface..

erratically tracks on any mouse pad, bu tracks perfectly on a magazine or on a desktop...id say "Use it on desktop..duh" - but its scuffing the **** out of the finish on my desk so now what?
I love this thing but it refuses to work on any standard mouse pad (tried 3). Faulty sensor?

Actually my magic mouse works best on a mouse pad.
Try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting (probably not the problem). If that does not help, take it to an Apple store (test on their systems) or call Applecare for a replacement.

Installed new batteries in my magic mouse. It tracks well but does not click.

MacBook Pro indicated that the batteries in the magic mouse needed to be replaced. New batteries were installed in the magic mouse. The pointer function works well, but the click function no longer works.

Hey in Sweden. I believe before you can install a new system on your new hd you will need to format it using Disk Utilities. You should be able to access the Disk Utilities program from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). You should now be able to install to your hearts content.

Sorry if this has been posted, but I can't find the answer. I have a Mac Pro with a blue tooth dongle attached. I just bought a magic mouse and it tracks, but the buttons don't work. It says that I have to update to software 1.0 I downloaded the software, but when I went to install it, it says that I have to have 10.6.2 or later. That version isn't out yet. Anyone else have this problem? How do I connect my new mouse? Any help would be appreciated/

Suddenly have issues with Magic Mouse

I have used the Magic Mouse almost since it was first put on the market and really love it.
I upgraded to Mavericks when it first came out, too. I am currently running Mavericks 10.9.2
However, this morning I turned on my iMac and all of a sudden, when I am in Safari and swipe, it catches and freezes Safari to the point that I have to quit Safari altogether and then log back in. It scrolls up and down in Safari just fine, it's just when I attempt to go right or left. Also, when I open Calendar, the Magic Mouse won't do any scrolling at all. I can click on something within the window and it works ok, but attempting to scroll the calendar up and down to a different month/week and nothing happens. I am also running the same version of Mavericks on my MBP and the mouse of it works just fine.
Anyone out there experiencing this also?
Anyone out there have some helpful tips for Dummies?

Share Magic Mouse, Screen and Keyboard between two Macs

I'm considering buying a Magic Mouse for my work/studio-setup, mostly because of the way the touch and gesture features are implemented in Logic Pro X. Until now, I have used a Mac Pro directly connected to one DVI-display as well as a MBP. Both computers are also connected to a KVM-Switch sharing a second DVI-display and a wired Logitech Mouse and wired Apple Keyboard. I always liked this setup because I can switch between mouse and keyboard for the computers and the screen they share with the single click of a button on the KVM's remote control.
Is there any way that is as simple to control as this that I could set this up using a Magic Mouse while making sure that I can still use all Apple-specific gesture and touch functionality? From what I have read some people are using Bluetooth-Dongles on their KVMs USB-Ports, other use Software like Synergy or ShareMouse. But all of these solutions seem to make the setup more complex or seem to make some of the functionality I would buy the Magic Mouse for unusable. Instead of having to install some additional software on my machines that runs in the background all the time and is prone to compatibility issues etc., I would prefer a solution that is based on hardware and uses just Mac OS system features. Also, a solution that takes more then a couple of seconds to switch everything (KVM) between systems is not of practical use for my workflow. I would very much appreciate any hints or experience on this topic that you can share.

Automatic does not work for me on this particular task. . My primary computer is an iMac. On travel I use a MacbookPro. I want the MacbookPro to have the same Contacts list as the iMac. I am logged into iCloud on both computers. The MacbookPro needs to be syced. On it I logged out of icloud, and in doing so I chose to delete files from the computer. Then I logged in again to icloud. That put a lot of additional lists of groups into the Contacts, lists that are not on the iMac. But some individual pages are not updated to match the iMac.
I tried to manually copy (and overwrite) the various files on the MacbookPro that seemed to deal with the Contacts, including
my Library/Applicatiion Support/AddressBook
my Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
They are still not the same.
On my Macbook I unchecked the Contacts, which deleted them and checked them again. This now deleted all of my groups and the individual ones are not synced with the iMac.
So now I have had three different versions of Contacts on the Macbook, as I manipulated turning on and off iCloud, and not one of them has been the same as on iMac.
How do I get the Macbook contacts to be the same as on iMac?

Is there a large, clear desk pad suitable for use with the Magic Mouse?

My well-loved Magic Mouse will not track on my clear, 36" X 24" desk pad and, thus, I'm looking to replace it with a clear desk pad at least as large, but suitable for use with the Magic Mouse. Currently, I'm using an extra-large Wowpad for my mouse. Would a clear, matte desk pad work as well as the Wowpad with my Magic Mouse, or must I continue to use the Wowpad and seperate desk pad? All suggestions grartefully accepted!

I had this happen as well. after I replaced the batteries it went to acting strangely. Same thing on glossy surfaces only.
This happened once before, and I thought it was broken, and just like pepi70 I think I remember an accidental drop fixed it before, wondering if I should drop it again, I have already tried banging it lightly with my hand to no avail.
Maybe more people have had this problem but didn't think to try it on glossy surfaces. Very strange it only works on glossy...
Anyone find a good solution?

Choppy Magic Mouse on 13" Macbook Pro Retina

I recent upgraded from a mid 2012 Macbook Pro to a 13" retina and now my magic mouse scrolling and tracking is very choppy. Anyone else experiencing this issue? It was working flawlessly with the 2012.
Specs are as follows:
13" Retina
3.0 i7
8gb ram
512gb SSD

I had the same issue and I finally make it work executing following steps:
1. If the Mouse is displayed on Win 7 Bluetooth devices, remove it.
2. Reboot the computer on Mac OS and change the name of Magic Mouse then remove the Magic Mouse from Mac OS Bluetooth list as well.
3. Reboot the computer on Bootcamp/Win 7 and use Bluetooth add device to pair the Magic Mouse on Win 7. At this time it should work on Win 7.
4. Reboot the computer on Mac OS and add again the Bluetooth device. At this point, the name of Magic Mouse will be the old name, so you have to change it to the new name you just set it at step #2.
After this, my Magic Mouse works fine in Mac OS and Win 7 Ultimate/64bits.

Sluggish Magic Mouse due to LaCie USB 3.0 driver

I'm experiencing an extremely sluggish Magic Mouse when the USB 3.0 driver from LaCie is installed and a LaCie drive is connected. After removing the driver the mouse works as expected. Does anyone observed something similar?

I am experiencing the same problem on a new mac mini - when the LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 is connected the Magic Mouse is unusable.
As sonn as the Rikiki is disconnected the mouse works again, since the Rikiki is suppose dto be the TimeMachine volume, kepping it disconnected is not really desired.
Tried the FW update from laCie's web site - but the drive already useds the latest FW.
Installing / Uninstalling LaCie-USB 3.0 drivers also did'nt made any different.

Is magic mouse dead?

I have had my magic mouse stored unused for about 6 months. I pulled it out and put in fresh batteries, turned it on and the green light indicator light comes on. Then connected to the new mac mini with Lion installed. I am able to connect to it with Bluetooth fine. It left and right clicks but curser does not move and the infra- red light on the bottom does not illuminate. My guess is that it's toast. How can I be sure it is time to buy another one or can it be reset some how?

Are you capable os seeing infrared? You're thinking of what is referred to as "optical mice". You won't see anything lit with infrared.
Try doing a smc and pram reset.
