Magic Mouse Audio Feedback

I was trying the magic mouse in my local Apple Store and when I was home again I was thinking about if I had heard something while scrolling or not. I couldn't really say it, because I did not really pay special attention to it.
Many of you know that the Mighty Mouse has a piezo speaker inside, so that the scrolling gives an accoustic feedback to the user (look here: http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2005/08/dissect.ars). I think this is really comfortable and really native for the interaction between the user and the device, especially when you work a lot with it.
So has the magic mouse something like this or is it completely quiet while scrolling, swiping and so on?
If not: Does Apple plan to make an Update so that it supports this feature?
I'm really thinking about buying it, but if it has no accoustic feedback I will definitely buy the Mighty Mouse again...

Hello again:
You were quite clear.
ok, maybe it was written a little bit unclear: is there a software update, so that you can hear the scroll sound? i could'nt find anything…
As I indicated, nothing like that exists - to my knowledge.
I suspect that the link below would be the best way to provide feedback to Apple:

  • Magic Mouse User Feedback/Suggestion Box

The Magic Mouse has great esthetic appeal, the touch to scroll is employed well, the swipes will take some getting used to as it is a natural movement (at least to me). The biggest shortfall I see is the inability to assign the functions, as well as the loss of the third and fourth buttons (scroll button click, and squeeze button)
The scroll button would be easy to employ as a virtual button with a two fingered click. Clearly the device can sense the difference between one and two fingers and the motion of clicking with two fingers seems incredibly intuitive to me.
One could also conceive of having two fingered scrolling mean something different than one fingered scrolling, think Application switching, Spaces, screen zoom.
The problem with the swipe motion is you have to stop the mouse from moving side to side as you hold it, making the motion somewhat unnatural. Interestingly though pinching/spreading on the mouse would work very well, since the opposite movement of each finger keeps the mouse still and does not require you to hold the sides. So pinch/expand zooming would be a natural one too.
Two finger Rotate seems hard since again the issue of the mouse moving comes up
Apple, throw in a two finger click assignable to expose, spaces, or user choice please. Pinch Zoom too please

In addition to all those I'd really love two finger slide up gesture to go up a folder level, or customizable to show topsites in Safari maybe. Slide down gesture to open a folder or file.
There are a lot of cool gestures. If Apple could create a 'watch me' method to create our one it would defeat the need for 3rd party software which could complicate the proper navigation functions. Even if most were disabled by default it gives advanced users a chance to take advantage of it's multitouch surface, which currently barely scratches the surface.

Hi can anyone help with this issue regarding my wireless magic mouse? When im on google chrome and scrolling down the page i always have youtube running in the background but the audio cuts/spits/pops can anyone help me with this?

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

  • Magic mouse lags bluetooth audio

Magic mouse lags bluetooth audio with cracking and pitch shift.
After Magic mouse disconnected, then bluetooth speakers sounds perfect.
    Please help!!!

I have this same issue, but opposite.  My audio in my bluetooth headphones sounds great, but when they are connected my bluetooth mouse (microsoft 5000) is all over the place.
What's the deal.  I didn't know my $2000 mac would be so inferior to my $800 pc in this regards   (otherwise very happy with switch to mac)

  • Swipe between pages feature is freezing with magic mouse and magic trackpad in Mavericks

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and  on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?
    Thanks for your help

Maybe this will help. You can look for other ideas in the 'More Like This' box to the right.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • My macbook pro(Lion 10.7.2) continually lost connection with the magic mouse, which charged well.

There is something wrong with my new macbook pro MD322(Lion 10.7.2). It continually lost connection with the magic mouse. I ensure that the mouse is charged well. I also looked up the matter on Web. It looks that the matter is familiar for many users.

I have a m-audio fast track pro that I'm having a similar problem when using it with my new Macbook Air. I found changing it to 16 bit will work.
I have a Apogee iMic that works fine so my guess is we will have to wait for Avid/M-Audio to update drivers.

  • Brand new iMac cannot pair bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse

    Hi there!
Just received brand new iMac 21" yesterday. Unboxed it, turned it on and none of both bluetooth devices (keyboard and magic mouse) managed to get paired.
I was able to connect a USB mouse to log into the Mac. Did all turn off/on Bluetooth, turn off/on iMac several times with no luck. Weird thing is that when I lift keyboard on a 30 degree angle above my desk it seems to actually pair with the iMac but then when back to original position it disconnects.
I've tried the magic mouse with my 2008 Macbook and works flawlessly. After several attempts never managed to pair magic mouse with iMac and as said earlier keyboard is not working on a standard position on my desk. It is frustrating to have paid close to 2,000$ for something that does not even work out of the box... Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm planning to take it today to nearest Apple Stores but have a bad feeling about "genius" folks being able to help me out. Would be worth changing iMac for new one?
    Thanks a lot in advanced!

Thanks Barry! If SCM reset means the following:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
I've done that several times yesterday with no success. "SMC Reset" sounds quite fancy but then you google it and find that is a "simple" shut down and restart protocol... I tried "shutting down" by both selecting option via OS and also physically on the button behind screen.
I appreciate the help but unless I've done that "simple" protocol wrong it is not working.
Sorry for the frustration from my side. It just seems too much of a vague story when you hear Apple friends talking things about "the best OS", "best desktop",...and then you pay about $2,000 and find this yourself.
If anyone else interested I commit to keep this up to date with the feedback I'll get from "genius" folks today. Hopefully they'll prove themselves to live up to their position naming.

  • Magic Mouse tracking/clicking issue

I have identical systems at home and at work...2007 Mac Pro, 10.6.2, and the Magic Mouse. Magic Mouse works perfectly on my home system, but on my work system it's almost unusable. Terrible lag as I move the pointer around the screen area...sometimes not moving at all as I move the mouse a couple of inches, then jerkily following along--this is constant. Clicking also seems to be intermittent. I've looked at the system monitor to see if I had any processes clogging up CPU usage and did see some things going on with Safari, but closed that out and still had problems.
Any suggestions as to why I might be getting this lagging problem on my work system? Maybe I need to swap mice and see what happens...
    Rocky Rakoon

There are several of us that for some reason have been having this lagging / jumping / erratic bluetooth mouse problem now for over a year.
In order to help Apple Care get to the core of the issue I posted the following video to youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBzisliiVpg
In addition, another Mac user with a similar problem posted this video to youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxLY3-pH-rs
I personally think that others suffers should use the QuickTime X screen recording function to make a small movie that clearly shows the problem. Then post the video to youtube and notify Apple Care and Apple Feedback of the problem (www.apple.com/feedback)
This way Apple will know that a real problem exists and that they need to examine the issue.

  • How's the new Magic Mouse?

Specifically the tracking? Thinking of getting one when they become available this week but would appreciate some iMac people feedback first. I'm a designer so good tracking and preciseness are pretty important.
Currently have the might mouse and hardly use as tracking is so poor... assume it has a lot to do with the bluetooth connection.
    Thanks.

I also found the wireless version of the Mighty Mouse to have poor tracking, while the USB version of the Mighty Mouse to have great tracking The Magic Mouse tracks as good as the USB Mighty Mouse. I do miss the center button (Dashboard) and side button (Exposé), but at least there are dedicated keys for both on the keyboard.

  • Erratic magic mouse behavior

Will anybody ever be able to decipher what the specific causes are for the erratic behavior of Apple's Magic Mouse? Personally I think it boils down to the Bluetooth Signal itself that can cause a lot of this erratic behavior, like in sudden sluggishness of movement. I see this behavior comes and goes as if some invisible force has suddenly intervened. My best guard against erratic behavior is to have the computer as close to the mouse as possible, even a foot or two. The further out the computer gets the more erratic behavior is likely, but like I said, even then it "comes and goes." Do you think it is the Bluetooth signal itself, because sometimes when it's become erratic I move the computer around, even which way it faces in relation to the mouse and I can suddenly "lock on" and the mouse returns to normal, only to have it start acting up again in a few hours or later on in the day or week or whatever. That's why I say the signal itself is suspect because I can effect the behavior by moving the computer around. Maybe the signal is effected by other components in the room like my TV or Audio Equipment or WIFI signals or remote controls.
I love my Magic Mouse and that is why I have put up with this erratic behavior struggle I'm constantly/periodically having, but I do wish this problem could be eradicated altogether and i could just use the mouse like it was intended. Incidentally, this is a brand new mouse I'm currently using that is at issue. All my other Magic Mouse have also done this exact same behavior.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3. I'm certain much of what you posted is definitely a likelihood for some of the issues. I have a lot of electronic equipment in this house, and yes, smart tv's connected to WIFI as well as other computers throughout the house. Apple of course does not mention any of this as possible issues as far as I know, the public, like myself, just assumes all will be wonderful. I know there are more like me out there if I'm having these consistent problems with all the Magic Mouses' I've owned. It really is attacking it from the SIGNAL side of things because I think that is the only issue that's going on. If it were addressed more, maybe even scientifically, maybe we could say, "well don't put it here, this can cause problems, and that TV, keep such and such a distance." Those are the types of guidelines that would be so helpful. But from what I'm seeing none of that is addressed at all (or for the most part). Anyway, I really want the wireless mouse world (specifically the Magic Mouse) to thrive. Every time I hook up a wired mouse I really feel the step back I'm taking and it's too painful! I've even went to the point, and I'll do it again if need be, of having my computer (Mac Mini) 2 inches from the Magic Mouse, that's when it operated at its very best. My only problem with that is it's somewhat impracticable, and I really don't think I should have to do that to have it work consistently.  Anywho, my two cents worth.

  • Magic Mouse Primary and Secondary Clicks Switched

Recently I picked up a Magic Mouse and have since found some very strange things that I don't know how to fix:
The primary and secondary clicks are switched. As in, under mouse settings when I select the secondary click to be on the right, only the primary click works on the right side and everything else is a secondary click. It is also very annoying because every time I have more than one finger touching the surface it counts as a secondary click. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate feedback.
I looked around in settings and couldn't find anything regarding this matter. I fiddled with some stuff but never got it working properly.
    Feedback much appreciated!
    --Justin

Looking at another thread in this forum, I see some people who had older apple mice installed before the magic mouse are having this problem with the magic mouse.
I had an older wireless mouse that would take right-clicks before I set up the magic mouse. Unfortunately when I connect the older wireless mouse I can no longer access it's preferences. It only gives me the preferences a generic one button mouse. Somewhere there must be some set of files I can delete and it will forget this old mouse.
I am pretty disheartened after a week of this. One of the benefits to a mac is that I shouldn't have to dig around removing drivers and such

  • Thoughts on new magic mouse

    hi
I just have received my new iMac 27" today and am really overwhelmed. the only thing one needs to get used to is the new magic mouse.
the fact that the scrollball click and the 2 buttons on the side are missing, means that there are 2 options less than for the mighty mouse. a thing I really do not understand, if the mouse can determine a rightclick leftclick and even swipes for scrolling, I do not understand why apple hasn't implemented a 2finger click and a 3finger click as well. shoould be possible as it is a software related issue IMHO.
another thing about the new magic mouse is the click sound, if it is like with the mighty mouse, then the click sound is produced by a little piezo, and the click is really tooooooooo loud IMHO.
what do you think abou the missing 2 options and the click loudness?

This should be an option - if not the default value - the user can set. That would improve the performance & usability so much more. Please fix it!

  • Overwhelmed by magic mouse!

I bought this **** magic mouse and it will not scroll. How do I know I am running the right system. I think I am running leopard. Is that why it will not scroll? I did get some feedback.
Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Mouse options.. button > check Scrolling / with or without inertia.
However, when I followed the step it did not take me to the check scrolling option.
Someone please walk me through this like I am not bright.
    Thanks,
    Mark

If you are running Leopard then maybe it is different than Snow Leopard which is what I am using.  If so this might be wrong....
Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Mouse options.. button > check Scrolling / with or without inertia.
Universal Access "Mouse & Trackpad" does not have a Mouse Options button.  "Mouse Keys" radio buttons, yes, but no options.  And keep that mouse keys off unless you really want that stuff.
The Mouse preference pane is what has the scrolling options, inertia, etc.
Is this stuff is not true in Leopard?
Try resetting smc and pram to see if that helps.  It's also conceivable your MM is just plain broke.
