Magic Mouse cover broken. Is it covered?

I had a problem putting the cover back on as I was replacing the batteries today and realised a piece of the latch has broken off after a close examination. It is still usuable without the cover but considering the cost of it and the fact I only had it for less than 3 months, is it covered by the warranty? I purchased it from an Apple Store and still have the receipt.

Accidental Damage issue...  I'd be surprised if they take it back because you broke it.
I do admit, it does seem very counter-intuitive on how to put the **** face-plate back in.

  • Magic Mouse is Broken!

My magic mouse has brand new batteries and was connected, i restarted my Mac and it just stopped working, the light isnt even coming on! this always happens and its really annoying, Please help!

It is not necessarily broken.   There are many problems that arise with batteries from the size to the contacts.   Some batteries are not a precise size for the compartment.   Are you using an Apple charger and Apple batteries?   I believe Duracell are satisfactory too, though in my experience they do not last long.
Suggest you take out the batteries, clean the battery contacts and the contact points inside the mouse with an alcohol based cleaner using a damp, not wet, cotton bud.   Also wipe the sensor.  Leave it for a few minutes, reassemble and turn on the mouse.  If the green light then shows, double click and wait the for the connection confirmation to show.

  • MacBook Pro update to Yosemite breaks Magic Mouse

Installed Yosemite today. Magic Mouse instantly broken. It does connect sometimes, but the tracking is sluggish and gestures don't work at all. Worked fine in Mavericks. Batteries @80%.
Re-pairing does NOT work for me. zaping PRAM does NOT work for me.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
    2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Is there a solution, patch? How can this be so terribly broken?

    Hello,
The problem persist. I have this problem on a macbook pro 13" retina display. Upgraded to Yoseminte and big problem, my Apple Magic did not working anymore. After i replace batteries, restart mac, turn off turn on bluetooth several times, i connect the mouse. But guess what? After i close the lid and i go home, when open the mac again, surprise: NO MOUSE.
Please be serious and get an answer to this issue, both are your products, if APPLE products get errors of communications, what I should expect from others.
People buy Apple for commodity and for less number of problems, in fact Apple products are not so good as you think. So if you have problems like I cannot connect a mouse with a Macbook Pro, then Apple fail.
Guess what, in your Apple stores, people who maybe know some english, don't know to solve this problem, and they told me is a personal problem.
For sure I have personal problem with my mouse...
Thank you for testing Yoseminte before official Launch.
    With respect,
    Shanaki

  • Magic Mouse Broken?

I just bought a magic mouse, and I'm not sure if it's broken or if I'm just not using it correctly.
    Problem 1:
I'm swiping one finger across the top of the mouse. The page in my Safari browser moves one page forward when I swipe from right-to-left on the mouse, but the page in my Safari doesn't move one page backwards when I swipe from left-to-right. Nothing happens.
    Problem 2:
I'm trying to right-click on the mouse. I'm using one finger to click the top right corner of the mouse, and the right click funtion isn't working properly.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Problem with removing Magic Mouse battery cover (Its Stuck)

Well i just got a new Magic mouse for 1st time, cause i needed a mouse that doesn't have a usb lead which gets caught on edges or wrapped around other cables all the time for my Macbook Pro.
The problem with this mouse is tho, rest of it is great, but the battery cover latch, won't release the actual cover off, as i was checking what kind of batteries it had. Which from what i've seen on the forums here is completely opposite to the problem that everyone else has here of it NOT staying on, or being to loose.
Mine however is seemingly too TIGHT, or stuck on itself, and therefore won't come free.
Being that its a brand new mouse (Got it only just today in post 15 Jan 2013), i may not be pulling the latch right or it is actually stuck.
So i was womdering if anyone else had this problem, and has a solution? Cause even tho i won't be worried about the battery failing straight away. I will need to replace it at some point with new ones.
    Pls help, thx.

First turn the mouse off, using the tiny slide button below the green light.
Then sharply flick the small rectangular black button at the bottom of the plate downwards with your finger nail.   The plate should loosen and pop off.
To replace.   Line up the black button in its rectangular hole and press the plate at point of the circular hole where the sensor shows.
Turn on the mouse, check the green light is steady, then click the mouse twice to activate it.

  • Magic mouse battery cover comes off

My magic mouse battery cover comes off. I have replace the mouse. Ihave taped the cover on... still comes off. What other hack is there?

If it is still under warranty, take it back.   It may be a bad batch and I know it's a nuisance but bodging up with tape is not a solution.  And Apple needs to know their product is faulty; remember, every one returned is a loss of profit, they will learn.

  • Magic Mouse Battery Cover Lost

The baty magic mouse that came with the computer has been lost. Where can I find a replacement? Please help.

This is the part number. Apple lists it for $11.25 but you can not buy it directly from them.
    On the web $30-40

  • Battery acid got all over my magic mouse.

I have not used my iMac in a couple of months. I just turned it on and it was not locating my magic mouse. So I checked to make sure it was "on" and noticed dried battery acid had seeped through the edges. I removed the cover and took out the exploded batteries and replaced them. I made sure the mouse was turned on and still, nothing. My iMac says "attempting to locate mouse #1" or something like that, then it says it is not locating anything. Will I have to completely replace my mouse or is there something that can be done to fix it? My iMac was just bought February of 2013 so it is still fairly new.

If the batteries that exploded came with the mouse and the new iMac, chances are they were NOT rechargeable batteries.   So, are these the original batteries?
Whether it is covered by the guarantee or not I cannot say but it is worth asking at the store where you bought it, particularly if you have bought Apple Care extended warranty.   The mouse is a piece of hardware and carries a 12 month guarantee; the question is ... was this negligence in some way on your part.   I think not.
The mouse may be reparable if the acid is not spread too widely by cleaning the contact points inside the mouse and don't forget the contacts areas on the new batteries; they may have been contaminated.

  • Are replacement "rails" available for the Magic Mouse

After only a month or two, the rails on the bottom of my Magic Mouse have worn down allowing the battery cover to scrape on my desktop. Is it possible to replace these?

    Hi OtterMN73
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
So stop using sandpaper for a mouse pad...
The Mouse is covered under the one year iMac warranty and for three if you have Apple Care. Jot down your iMac's serial number and drop by your Local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider and get it exchanged. > http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/

  • Magic Mouse Feet Wearing

I have had the magic mouse since release when I got a new iMac. I have been using it every day. (I am a support manager at my University). I noticed that when I replaced the batteries recently that the feet on the bottom of the mouse are wearing off and eventually if the wearing continues, the mouse will not be usable because it will be rubbing on the battery plate.
I am using the mouse on a smooth desk, no roughness.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with their magic mouse?
I have got back to my trust 2 button - scroll wheel mouse that I have used for years and there is very little wear on the mouse feet.

I don't know if you may be experiencing a problem I had when replacing batteries:
I thought that the compartment covering was properly latched, but after 3 or 4 days with the mouse feeling a bit awkward, I noticed that the cover was not fully latched and was scraping the desk surface.
I think that the "feet" are quite durable.

  • Magic mouse store warranty

My magic mouse just exploded and when ichecked it one of the batteries' acid damaged the mouse, i went to warranty and they didnt replace it because they told me that apple doesnt cover battery damages bah blah, i just think is unfair because my magic mouse has its original batteries and has 70% of the charge, it was only 6 months and the "warranty" is for a year. So i think people are wrong, every one told me that apple products where the best quality and warranty, a year ago i got a hp touch, the keyboard died like in 8 months, they just sent me a replacement without question and included a new mouse, I love apple products, but if they are going to be that iresponsible each time and making excuses just to not replace damaged items that they know was their fault wow thats bad, im sorry to be a sore loser, but i loved that mouse.

I bought my iMac with the magic mouse in May.  It went through alkalines so fast -- about 3 weeks or so on the first set, and not even that much on the 2nd set -- that I went back to using my old wired apple mouse until I got around to getting lithium batteries.  In the meantime, I opened up the back of the mouse case, and let it sit without any batteries at all the last 4 months or so...
So, today I finally got the lithium batteries.  Went to put them in and...  there's corrosion damage to one of the contacts!!!  How is that even possible?  I've only used two sets of alkaline batteries in it, ever, for a grand total of maybe 5 weeks.  It has been without batteries in it at all, otherwise.  Moreover, I still have the most recent alkalines, there is no sign whatsoever of any leakage in them, and they both still register a charge.
I just got off a longish call with support, and they couldn't tell me whether it's covered or not.  But I am somewhat flabbergasted that these devices can have the appearance of battery damage without having been used very much, or, as in my case, practically at all.

  • Is there a way to reduce the effective surface area of a magic mouse?

I apparently cannot hold my mouse the "correct" way. My palm still wants to rest on the back half of the mouse, particularly when I want to scroll. And sometimes when I grab the mouse, my finger will swipe the edge and cause the screen to scroll.
All I want to do is reduce the active surface area of the touch surface to be more centralized toward the front, you know where most mice buttons and scroll wheels are located. I have found no advantage to having such a large active surface area with the way I use a mouse.
Love the concept. Now I just want a little more control.
Oh, and since this is a typically, beautifully designed Apple product, an aesthetically pleasing solution is preferred, i.e. no duct tape.
Are there any clear protective adhesive covers for the Magic Mouse that would help?
    Joe

The concept of the Magic Mouse is brilliant. I hated the scroll wheel. Loved when Apple had the scroll ball. But then that got annoying (all those track ball issues from days gone by are just as present with the scroll ball).
I thought the capacitive surface was the solution. Now it has only created its own version of the problems. I don't know if it is the software, bluetooth, the hardware, or increased sun spots. But it works brilliantly when I don't want it to (finger just hovering above the surface or just accidentally brush the edge with my finger) and doesn't when I need it to (surface area too large and the initial hesitation before it starts scrolling, which makes the screen jump to catch up).
What I hate most is when I am scrolling a window that has a embedded window that also scrolls (most often on web pages). The whole page stops scrolling. It's like a magnet to my curser (in that Murphy's law way). No matter where I put my curser when I scroll a window, it will almost always be where that embedded window is inline and stop my primary window from scrolling.
Has anyone gotten this right? Apple has done the best that I've found, but there is still much that needs improving.

  • MAC OS X 10.6.3 issues with iTunes/Magic mouse

This is strange. Somehow I was able to upgrade Snow Leopard 10.6 to 10.6.3. How was that possible? I did this about a week or so ago. 10.6.3 is not available on Apple's download site today 2-7-2010. How did I get access to it?
A couple of weeks ago, I bought the Snow Leopard CD and installed it over my Tiger OS, without any problems. Then i bought a wireless keyboard and magic mouse which prompted me to upgrade Snow Leopard to 10.6.2., as well as upgrade the software to the wireless peripherals. Went to Apple's download page and somehow downloaded OS X 10.6.3. Hmmm? I also installed the latest security update at this time too. After all installs, at this point, I wasn't experiencing any issues with my laptop.
But then, I upgraded iTunes to 9.0.3. At this point I started experiencing problems after shutting down and then booting up the next day. iTunes began playing music slowly, music wasn't garbled, but the songs sounded out of tune (playing from my hard drive). Also, my wireless magic mouse got jumpy and exhibited delayed reaction. I ended up reinstalling OS X 10.6 (from the cd) over the existing OS (10.6.3), and now iTunes works just fine. The reinstall of OS X 10.6 from the cd did wipe out my software upgrades for the wireless peripherals and i have yet to upgrade them. i'm just glad iTunes is working well again.
My questions are: Was the problem with iTunes playing slowly an iTunes issue? Or was the root problem from the upgrade to OS X 10.6.3, and therefor an OS problem? Why was my mouse also displaying problems? And how was I able to get OS X 10.6.3 from Apple several days ago when they don't have that version available for download on the site today? Confusing.

My questions are: Was the problem with iTunes playing slowly an iTunes issue? Or was the root problem from the upgrade to OS X 10.6.3, and therefor an OS problem?
Even if a user has access to the beta, and knew of an issue they are working on, he/she would not be able to comment on it here. This forum is only for OS's that have been released and is covered by a Terms of Use agreement.
Sounds like you got an unintended update in some sort of fluke accident, and since you've removed it, there's no way of telling what caused the problem or if it was the OS or program or both.
