Magic Mouse Jumps After Update to 10.6.8 - Help!

Ok so I have updated my 2010 iMac to v10.6.8 and now my Magic Mouse randomly spazzes across the screen or is very slow to move. I have installed the supplemental update in the hopes of fixing the problem, also reset the PRAM and SMC, all to no avail. I've seen quite a few threads about this issue for Lion users, but have yet to come across one specifically for Snow Leopard users.
If there is one and I'm just being blind, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
If there isn't and there's something else someone with better knowledge of this kind of thing than I have can suggest, by all means let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Here comes the/my solution:
Remove Sophos Antivirus
Thanks to boojum's remarks in https://discussions.apple.com/message/15480849#15480849 !
Don't forget to use Sophos' deinstall package: /Macintosh HD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg
Nevertheless, some settings have been re-initialized (no complete list!):
- Dock
- Language has been reset to English only
- Expose & Spaces
(- probably all personal settings?)

  • Magic Mouse issues after updating to iTunes 11

    Hi,
Just updated to iTunes 11, and immediately after installing I have been losing Bluetooth connection to my Magic Mouse.  This usually happens when I click on an icon in my dock to launch an App.  Specifically, most often when I am launching iTunes.  I've ruled out a battery issue, as I've replaced them and it doesn't make a difference.  I've even cleared my PRAM at startup (CMD+OPT+P+R at startup), since I saw this suggested for similar Magic Mouse issues not related to iTunes. Resetting the ram made no difference in my case.
I've had the Magic Mouse for 2+ years, and this has never been an issue before.  In fact, I've never had any connection issues with the mouse that weren't related to weak batteries, and everything was working great until I installed iTunes 11.  Just wondering if others have had this issue since upgrading to iTunes 11, and if so, how it was corrected?
    Thanks.

Hi, I've not had this issue, but iTunes 11 does seem to be doing something to my Magic Mouse. For example within iTunes 11 I can no longer swipe forwards and backwards. Not sure if there is some kind of hitch with the new iTunes software and the Magic Mouse firmware?

  • MacPro Magic Mouse jumping and crashing

2 MacPro 2x2.4Ghz Magic Mouse jumping and crashing.
I tested new magic mouse problem is continue.
I restore MacPro and install system but problem continue.
İ search web pages same problem is alot of.
    I dont fix this problem.
    SAMPLE WEB PAGES
    http://d43.me/blog/476/mouse-cursor-skipping-jumping-bug-in-mac-os-x/

If you searched you should have found you are not alone with that MM/Mac Pro problem.  Probably the biggest thread in these forums (22 pages) is this one:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Summary, add your own external antenna or get a USB Bluetooth dongle.
How far are your mice from the mac pro's?  Probably more than 3 or 4 feet  from the back of the mac pro is about the limit.
Are there any wireless devices nearby (e.g., routers).  Sometimes they cause interference.
AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
You coud try smc and pram resets but it probably won't help.

I have a problem in my iphone 4 with wi-fi after update to IOS6 please can help my how can solve this problem?

    Nope
One needs to press the home and sleep / wake keys together for the phone to reset
The other thing I could recommend
Let the battery run out and the phone completely "die"
It may take a day or two with it not being used
Then plug it in to charge and see if there is any change in behavior
If you cannot get this to work - you may need to bring it to an Apple store

  • Magic Mouse Troubles After Software Update

I am having trouble with my magic mouse after a software update.  I am using Lion (I think) 10.7.5.  My trouble is that when I shut down my Mac, my magic mouse doesn't work until after I log in.  I can't click on the user with the magic mouse; it simply doesn't work until after I log in.  So I have to plug in my corded mouse and click on the user, type in my password, and then the magic mouse works again.  This has only become a problem since I cannot type in a username and the users are now buttons/icons on the screen.  Are there any fixes to this, or just have to deal with it?  Okay, I did just notice I can use the arrow keys on my keyboard to go between users.  Still, this is not an automatic thought that comes in my head when I see buttons/icons to click on.  I want to automatically use the mouse.  So if there are any other fixes beyond keyboard arrows, I would appreciate input.  Thank you!!!

For those a little less into do it yourself I just found Mouse Wizard:
    http://www.samuco.net/web/node/23
I will say that when I downloaded the demo the center button didn't work, but a very quick & courteous reply from their tech support suggested:
In terminal, can you try entering this command: "rm ~/Library/Preferences/.MagicalWizard.plist". Then, relaunch MouseWizard.
I did this & now I have center button nirvana! (Mouse Wizard also supports a version of the squeeze button (they call it fourth button) and squeeze/bloat gestures.)
So far so good--it's made me much happier with my magic mouse.

  • Anyone else have a problem with Magic mouse scroll after Maverick update?

Now I have upgraded to Maverick (among other minor things) my Magic Mouse scroll often doesnt work unless I close the application it stopped working in and open it again.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? was there any worthwhile reason to update?
    Jonny

This has happened to me, in fact, why I'm even searching in here...I need help too to fix it! It's so annoying!

  • Has anyone figured out a way to scroll & swipe with magic mouse again after upgrading to Maverick? Thanks!

I finally upgraded to Maverick and now my magic mouse doesn't scroll or swipe on any application and to make things worse, my keyboard scrolling ability after pressing down on the arrows is a bit delayed. Does anyone know how to solve this? My magic mouse and keyboard are a month old, so, I know it's not the devices, but something with the update.
Things I've done from reading other forums:
    1.  Went to System Preferences/Mouse Settings [but it only gives me two settings: Tracking & Double-Click Speed]
    2. I've reset my PRAM a few timesnow.
    3. Tried restarting my computer a few times too, but nothing.
    4. I've tried searching for these files in my Library to DELETE, but they don't exist, so that method is not an option:
    com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
    com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.list
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
Also, my bluetooth capabilites are no longer available because of this update. :^/
    Thanks in advance!

or my actual question is -- is there anything inherantly wrong with this approach.. i mean, if i can get it to make it through consistently, is there a problem with it repeating / updating the variable so many times in a row? is it a drain on system resources or can it break anything etc.?
Although I'm far from being an expert in programming, I would answer NO. Imho, you've just got a brillant idea! (As for “repeating / updating the variable so many times in a row”… you could add a short delay (like “delay 1”) inside the repeat block, but I don't think it's a must.)

  • Bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse jumps and moves erraticlly on screen

    Hello,
I am having problems with my Magic Mouse (cursor, pointer) jumping around on my screen when i attempt to use it. I checked preferences and the connection is fine. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so how do we remedy this annoying problem?

I was about to post this same question and then I found this thread.
Magic Trackpad was working great, I love using it.
Then one day after a week or so of use it starts acting erratically.
I assumed it was the batteries (although still above 70%) and changed them. Yet with fresh batteries reporting 100% it still refuses to take input and does its own erratic thing.
I've had to switch it off constantly today because even when I switch to using the trackpad on my MBP (Core2duo Nov '06 model) the pointer jumps about on the screen and worse still "clicks", on things which causes mayhem.
The suggestion of the USB power doesn't seem to affect me as all I have is the Apple aluminium keyboard plugged into my MBP. No other bluetooth devices being used or nearby. It's happened at 3 different locations too I can't blame interference from anything nearby
Shame as I had thought Apple had finally produced a "mouse" that was worth of their brand and reputation.

  • Magic mouse sluggish after rebooting mac

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with my magic mouse.
I have an early 2013 Macbook pro retina. After I upgraded to Yosemite, for a while I had a lot of problems with the magic mouse, sluggish response, disconnecting all the time and so on.
I reset the SMC and that solved the problem, occasionally it would come back but resetting the SMC always solved it.
But a few times, I have problems after rebooting the mac. The mouse is working perfectly but when the computer reboots starts behaving badly.
Yesterday I had that problem, I rebooted my mac and after all the mouse was terrible. I tried resetting the SMC but it didn't work. I remove the device and it had problems finding it, it eventually did but still it wasn't working well.
After a while, I shut down the system, reset the SMC once again, waited for about a minute, turned it back on and as the mouse was still a bit erratic, then I rebooted, and from then on it worked well.
I read an Apple support article that recommends doing that, shutting down, wait, power on and restart.
What puzzles me is why would this happen when I reboot the mac. It's like bluetooth needs sometime to start working properly again.
does anybody know anything about this?

    HI,
    Try Resetting the PRAM
Also, install the v10.6.2 Combo Update
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

  • Magic Mouse jumps all over the screen

    *Magic Mouse is on Drugs*
OK so first, let me say that generally speaking i love my mac. There was a time in the 90's when i was a big Apple fan, but after a few dumb@ss business decisions by Apple, i decided to convert to Windoze (and my entire company at that) So here we are a decade later; and I'm back on a mac again.
Recently my MagicMouse started spazzing out. Randomly jumping to new points on the screen. At first it was mildly annoying. Now it's infuriating. I used Camtasia to record this behavior:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX8ApUH6QOw
I called Apple to discuss this. First, they said "they weren't aware of any issues" A quick google of "MagicMouse Jumps" returned hundreds upon hundreds of links (including this forum) describing the issue.
Second, after assuring Apple this really was a problem, i got the ultimate insult. "If you would like to lodge a technical support ticket, we will need your credit card. This call will cost you $150.00."
You see, I bought this thing four months ago. Apparently you only get a 90 day free call period. After that you're warranty is actually a cost per call scenario.....
So -- While i love my mac, i'm of the distinct impression i've made the wrong choice. The only good news is I've now decided not to convert the rest of our 20 workstations in my business back to Mac....
Apart from my b*tching, has anyone actually solved this problem that according Apple, doesn't exist?
Oh by the way --- plugged in a USB laser mouse, problem does not occur with that device -- tried on all sorts of surfaces; mouse pads, no mouse pads, black paper, white paper, patterned, non patterned, special optical mouse pad for laser mice.... SAME results no matter what the surface is, and YES, i've also cleaned the optics with a lens cloth..... (And the battery is currently at 88%)

    Hello g:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I suspect a faulty mouse. However, try two things first. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart. Reset the PRAM:

Second, after assuring Apple this really was a problem, i got the ultimate insult. "If you would like to lodge a technical support ticket, we will need your credit card. This call will cost you $150.00."

There is no Apple charge for a warranty issue and the mouse has a one year warranty. Call Applecare back (or take it to a store if they have one close to you). Unless I am badly mistaken, Apple will replace the mouse and pay for shipping both ways (I had one fail a couple of years ago myself). Do identify the call as a warranty issue.

  • Loss of Magic Mouse function after downloading Mountain Lion

I have lost the "two-finger swipe" back to previous screen function of my Magic Mouse after downloading Mountain Lion. The vertical scroll function still works, only in the opposite direction. Weird! Any ideas?

You must have upgraded from Snow Leopard. The scroll direction has changed to "natural" where you push content in the direction you want it to go, as thought you had you finger on the screen.   You can change it back the other direction In System Preferences > Mouse > uncheck Scroll direction: natural.
The swipe back a page is now a one finger swipe.  You can change that as well in System Preferences > Mouse > More gestures tab.   Click the disclouse triangle for the choices.

  • Magic mouse disconnect after a minute

My Magic Mouse disconnect just in a minute after starting the system.
As per instruction I got, I have deleted the Bluetooth Preferences, deleted the mouse from bluetooth list and re added it, but the problem is still present, Mu mouse battery is full [more than 90%] and no any physical damage happned with my mouse.
The problem started when I put my I Mac in sleep mode for few Hours.
    Please provide me the solution
    Thanks

I think you have the same problem as we have:

  • Erratic Magic Mouse (jumps accross screen precisely every second)

The title sums it up really. Every second (on the second) the cursor will jump very slightly on the screen. Probably only about 2 or 3 millimeters. It's annoying, but it's not a huge deal.
What IS a huge deal is when the mouse decides to jump the cursor to a random point on either of my two screens. Extremely annoying especially if the second screen isn't even turned on and it jumps over there.
What I've noticed is that it seems to do it more frequently when there is a higher load on the system. With a 'normal' workload (internet browsing, skype, listening to music etc) it will do this big jump approximately every minute. But when there is a high load, like when I'm trying to play a game it will happen every couple of seconds, rendering most games totally unplayable! (The number of times my character has ran off the edge of a cliff because of this is maddening).
Now here's the thing, I took my iMac and Magic Mouse to my local Apple Store and wouldn't you know it, nothing happened. It behaved itself perfectly. But they were very good and swapped my old Magic Mouse for a brand new one out of a retail package anyway. Happy, I bring it home and immediately it's doing it again exactly as before with the brand new mouse!
My iMac is the 2010 27" Core i5 version upgraded with 12gb of ram, in case any of that is relevant at all.

I don't believe this. I've just spotted this post by user Ratzelda. He says that it's an issue with having dual (or multiple) monitors connected but powered down. I hadn't noticed any change in the mouse's behaviour when using the second monitor, but out of curiosity I just switched it on and sure enough the mouse is behaving normally now!
That explains why the mouse didn't respond erratically when I took the iMac to the Apple Store, because I didn't take my second display with me.
It seems like this is a known issue, and yet no patch has been released by Apple to fix it? Having to continuously run both monitors when it's not needed seems very energy inefficient to me. What is Apple playing at?

  • MacOSX forgetting Magic Mouse settings after restart

    Hello together,
since today my MacOS X (MacBook Pro, 10.6.6, early 2011) seems to forget my Magic Mouse movement settings every time I restart OSX and after waking up from sleep mode. The settings are always put to minimum automatically.
Every time I have to fix it in the System settings.
I have already repaired the HDD access rights and set the Magic Mouse to Favorite. Without effect to the problem.
Does anybody have an idea what could be the reason for this problem and how to solve it?
    Thanks and Regards
    Manuel

    Manuel,
Try going into System Prefs->Accounts. Unlock it. Look in "Login Items" and delete MagicPrefs application. Restart your computer. It worked for me...
