Magic Mouse keep scratching the table!

Hi,
I've got a Magic Mouse for just about 4 months, and realised recently that it had been scratching my tables, and also only to realise that the Apple Marque had worn off quite a fair bit because of the table surface touching scratching through the bottom aluminium battery cover plate.
Is this usual or I actually got defect products?
Kindly advise.
Thanks.

Eric Seah

Thanks Ralph, I was equally surprised as well.
The reason of me posting in the Apple Support forum is because I actually went to the Mac Service Centre and they mentioned that it is 'normal' that it will scratch on the table. I personally felt it is like a manufacturing defect some sort, but they said it is usual hence my action to post it in the forum and see what other users' experience is.
If that's the case, I'll probably forward this Apple Online support then since I bought it online.
Thanks.

Eric Seah

  • My magic mouse keeps jumping all over the page

Hi, my magic mouse keeps jumping all over the page and random apps keep appearing on my screen when I'm in facebook and it keeps sliding onto my dashboard screen.

Thanks so much for replying Barry.  Did what you said but took me 6 attempts to be able to reply to you so unfortunately did not work.  Have to wait over a week to get into Apple store so I guess I've just got to wait.  This is my second magic mouse and its driving me crazy.  Touch pad also playing up but thanks for the advice and have a good day.

  • Why does magic mouse keep disconnecting?

I've got an Apple Magic Mouse  that is less than one year old and it keeps disconnecting from my Mac Mini.  It just started doing it.  I've put in fresh batteries and restarted the computer.   I've got all the latest operating system software.   Nothing is out of date.   Every couple of minutes it just randomlly disconnects then reconnects and so on, over and over again.  It's only about 2 feet away from my Mac Mini.
    Anybody know what to do?
    Thanks.
    David

I thank you for your help, Ascendi, but I have no idea what you're saying.  I'm guessing I stand alone, because others do understand.  What I got from it was that the batteries don't fit snuggly, and to shove aluminum foil... somewhere.  I'm don't have a PhD in battery terminal dimensions and their terminonolgy.  But I do appreciate that you helped.
David / Flashkube2... EXACTLY!  After years and years with my wonderful white Magic Mouse, just today the exact same thing started happening, only I was losing connection every 20 seconds.  Half the time, I'd get it back.  I feared it was a Bluetooth error, or a hacker was "stealing my juice"  So I got online here, read this stuff, wiggled my batteries around (for years and years, I've only used Duracel), and for the last 10 minutes, I have kept connection with Mr. Mouse and Mr. Mac.  Keep your fingers crossed!
So if this problem arises again, I just stuff aluminum foil in there?  (I'll be a wee bit neater than "stuff").  Speak "positive terminal" and "negative terminal" and "top of the batteries" to me, because "depth of the recess" and "vernier caliper" are Chinese to me.  Does "battery recess" mean how the two batteries sit in its casing?
Maybe I just didn't have enough coffee this morning.  I'm not ususally shtooo-pid.  (don't go there!)

  • Does the magic mouse not have the feature of viewing all open pages on desktop like you do when you use the side buttons of the wired mouse?

Does the magic mouse not have the feature of viewing all open pages on the desktop like you do when you use the side buttons of the wired mouse?

No, you'll have to use Mission control for that.  It's either located on the dock, the F3 key on recent laptops on a swipe on the trackpad.

  • My Magic mouse keeps grabbing items and won't let go.  What do I do?

When I click on an item with the Magic Mouse, it grabs and holds on to that item.  I cannot figure out how to make it let go.  I have tried restarting the mouse and also restarting my mac.  Nothing is working.  Any ideas?  It was all working fine up until about an hour ago.  Thanks!

This has happened to several people in the last several weeks with iBooks.  Reboot your iPad.  Hold the power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will reset.  When it comes back up, I'm betting iBooks will be there..........

  • TS3048 magic mouse keeps dropping out

The mouse keeps droping out of teh 2004 imac and teh 2007 mac book pro.  will re-establish with trouble.  works for a bit and drops out or disconnects again.  logitech cheapy works perfectly.  no trouble with the key pad at the moment.  batteries new and at 100%  any ideas or is it dead after two years?

After a period of enforced rest such as you describe it is likely that any soiling that was present at the point of packing it away, would have set more rigidly.   Your Mouse needs a thorough clean, Inside battery compartment, the contacts, battery terminals, sensor, mouse pad, the lot.    This document gives other hints and tips too.    Pay particular attention to any environmental changes like repositioning of electronic items.   Preferably insert new, good quality batteries.
The replacement cost for a Magic mouse is around £50 ($69, I believe).

  • Magic Mouse vs. Glass Table Top

    Hi -
Will the new magic mouse work on a glass table top? I have been having issue with my older mouse not functioning on the glass table top and wondered if I took the plunge to a new magic mouse if I would experience the same thing. Other mice (e.g Logitech) touts a dark laser that should work, but I did not want to go that route unless necessary.
    Thanks - Ziggy

It seems to have started when I tried to use it on a black glass table.
Try using it on a mouse pad or a plain piece of white paper.

  • Magic mouse has lost the cursor

Magic Mouse scrolls and responds to clicks but has lost the cursor.  Eating batteries very often as well, related issue?

This does happen occasionally when the batteries are low and the memory (RAM) is inadequate.  This article may be helpful; read it and check it out.

  • Why does my Magic Mouse keep losing connection?

I've had my Magic Mouse for about 6 months now. I use it with my MacBook Pro RD. It works fine most of the time but every now and then it would lose connection for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. This happens even with newly replaced batteries so I know it's not a battery problem. I really expected better from what I thought would be a high quality mouse from Apple.
I am thinking of sending it back to be repaired or something, but when I entered its serial number to check the warranty status, I get the error "We're sorry, but this serial number is not valid. Please check your information and try again." In fact, the serial number printed on my mouse's battery compartment has 17 characters but the support page here only allows you to enter a 14-character serial number! What is going on?

I was having the same problem and found another thread with the solution. Basically the problem is some batteries do not fit tightly in the compartment and jiggle around causing the mouse to lose power and therefore the connection. The solution is either buy the apple rechareable batteries or wedge a piece of paper in between the batteries and the compartment lid (I used a bit on an index card fold over on itself). Once I did that = no more lost connection every 10 minutes.
The thread I'm referring to is here:

Posting in case someone else (like I did) comes here looking for an answer.

  • TS3048 My apple magic mouse keeps slowing down.

It's not jittery or jumpy, it's just slow.  I max out the track speed in the preferences and that works for a few minutes.  Shortly after, it slows back down.  I go into the preferences and it is still maxed.  If I turn it down, it becomes extremely slow.  I mean, I have to lift my mouse off the table and reposition it to get it to where I need to go.  Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

  • My mouse keeps moving the screen around.  How do I reanchor it

Goto trackpad in sys pref and try reducing your tracking speed or goto universal access in sys pref and check the mouse and trackpad settings...try altering them to solve your problem

  • Apple magic mouse keeps losing connection with Macbook pro

I have a 2012 macbook pro, after upgrading to Mavericks(10.9.1, not have any other 3rd party software, just pure OS X), my magic mouse always losing bluetooth connection suddenly every one or two days. When losing connection, I found the bluetooth chipset type showing in macbook system information changed to unkown (FFFF). I have contacted with apple global support, and also have not gotten the solution. Just cleaning cache, and ect. but still didn't work.
When I downgrading the OS X to 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, same macbook, same magic mouse, work very well. Never happened lose connection issue during one and a half month.  So, it should be a Mavericks bluetooth driver's issue, or something reletived.
Any body have some good idea in solving this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with a 2007 MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard. As soon as I changed the mouse's batteries, it started losing connection every few seconds. The mouse came with Energizer batteries originally - they supposedly don't fit well, but the mouse worked fine. I exchanged them with Duracell, which gave problems. Now I have Varta batteries installed, they give problems too. The paper-trick doesn't work for me.
Quite franky, I think it's rediculous that a fancy €69,- wireless mouse is so fussy about batteries. It's impossible to work with it. Is this just another way for Apple to get people to buy their batteries? I think a mouse this expensive should accept any and all batteries. Please, Apple: fix it. Seems like a really simple matter. Just put longer and stronger springs in the contacts for the negative poles.
    Thanks.

  • Is the Magic Mouse useable during the boot process?

My wired mouse died and I was considering the Magic Mouse as a replacement. Since I often boot to different drives, I need the mouse to be active during the boot process so I can select the drive to use. Anyone know if this will work?

Strange thing about that... I have the Apple flat aluminum keyboard, but for some strange reason, the cursor keys don't move the cursor when on the boot screen (work fine once the system is booted). The only way I was able to boot up this morning was to borrow a wired Apple mouse from another computer.

Add a MouseListener to the table. Use the rowAtPoint(...) and columnAtPoint(...) to determine which cell was clicked. This display a JDialog with the required information.
