Magic Mouse Menu Scrolling?!?

Just bought a Magic Mouse for my (old) G5. Running 10.5.8 with the Wireless Mouse Update installed. So far so good, BUT: The mouse does not seem to scroll through drop down menus like my old Stark Microsoft Mouse (sorry) did. Shouldn't it?!?

  • My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite lock has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page

My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page. Anybody having a similar experience?  I believe I've taken the last update to Yosemite within the last several weeks but this behavior did not start in concurrence with any system maintenance events.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How can I prevent Magic Mouse from scrolling horizontally when I don't want it to?

I recently purchased a Magic Mouse to go with OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. It's a great mouse but it causes 2 problems:
If I leave it on "Scroll with interia" in System Preferences/Mouse, it scrolls horizontally when I don't want it to.  Since I mostly work in Word documents, I often lose my place in the document this way. On the other hand, checking "Scroll without inertia" makes vertical scrolling, which I do all the time, a lot harder.
The mouse seems to cause what I think of as "fractures" in Word documents--words and parts of sentences will disappear or get crunched together , then reappear when I select the place where they vanished.  They also reappear if I scroll vertically to get the problem area off the screen and then return to it. This wastes a lot of time at best; at worst, I'm afraid I'll lose work.  The problem occurred once in a while with a Logitech bluetooth mouse I was using, but not as bad and not all the time.
I love the mouse's ergonomics and would like to keep it, but if I can't solve this problem, I'll have to return it.  Would be very, very grateful for any tips!  Thanks.

Always nervous about recommending sites I have no personal experience of.  On the plus side it doesn't relate to any of the bad sites I am familiar with and it appears to be the developer's site ... but there is no contact point for you to ask questions.  You said in your initial post it was to go with Snow Leopard but this version says it is meant for 10.7 and above.   Did you notice that?   I also notice several other references to Word and mouse and one person found the solution lay in the updating of word 2011 to its highest level.   I can offer no more.

  • Magic mouse's scroll function is contrary

I bought 2 days ago my new imac and today when I try to use it I discovered that the scroll function of the magic mouse is contrary. Scroll with finger up and the scroll goes down, scroll with finger down and the scroll page goes up. Help me please

I connected a standard USB mouse and the scroll works in reverse too.

  • Magic mouse runaway scroll

I have consistent problems with my magic mouse scrolling vertically on its own, i.e. when I'm not even touching the top portion of the mouse. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

I have this same problem. I have verified that it is not caused by my hand touching the mouse in any way. I can reproduce it every time. It is especially pronounced in MS Powerpoint. This reproduces it: Turn on scrolling with momentum in the system settings. In PPT, find a slide with several objects on it. Select one of the objects by clicking on it, lift your fingers and then quickly move the mouse. The app will scroll in the direction you moved the mouse. Of course make sure your hand is only touching the sides of the mouse. I can reproduce this 8 out of 10 tries with my mouse. Makes the mouse unusable in PPT. Turning off scrolling with momentum reduces the frequency and overall effect of the bug. Apple really needs to fix this. FYI: 1) My mouse is one of the very early ones. Purchased it within a few days of them arriving in the stores. 2) I've had the same problem with TWO MacBook pros the last generation and my new i7 based pro. 3) I have verified it has nothing to do with my hand accidentally touching the mouse in any way. Sorry, can't blame it on user error. Apple, please help with this. The mouse is way too expensive to have this kind of problem.

  • Magic Mouse loses scrolling ability after sleep

    Hi,
I'm on a Mac Pro and got a new Magic Mouse which I really love. First I experienced the BT connectivity problems which many people have on their Mac Pro's which I tried to solve via the tiny Belkin external BT dongle offered in the Apple store.
Now the cursor runs smoothly and I don't have any connectivity problems, BUT after waking the computer from sleep mode, the Magic Mouse lost the scrolling ability. It clicks properly, but I can't scroll.
Everything is fine after restarting the computer.
Searching the net, I found that other users using that dongle don't have the same problem, so what's wrong here? Any ideas? I'm thankful for every hint!

Just want to give an update to my saga.
I have made many calls tonight only to wait to no avail. My last call took 35 min to get thru. After explaining my issues and findings to him in detail, he asked me to do the typical first defense steps. Shut down, and then remove the AC cord. Press the power button 10 sec to "fully discharge any residual power". Then restart. I am all too aware that when Mac goes into sleep (very similar to MS PC's suspend stages) there are different degree of sleep. If I wake it up too soon, the symptoms do not occur. While on the call, we did the sleep and resume twice. Each time I waited about 2 minutes, thinking it is enough for the system to go into deep sleep. In both tries, the mouse did not loss the scroll functions. Thinking the issue may be resolve - though I did have some misgiving about it, I let him go.
I later went back and do a better testing, by let the system stay longer in sleep before waking it. I waited may be 4 to 5 minutes. Sure enough both the mouse and KB failed - both reverted to what seems some sort of basic mode. I have the BT status pane open and so I can monitor what it does. Yes, given enough time eventually the OS reports lost of mouse connection. Then also reports lost of KB connection. Yet, in actuality both the KB and magic mouse still works in their respective basic functions.
It appears that the host BT controller after entering what I infer as deep sleep, it is unable to reconfigure both the KB and mouse to their designed full functions upon resume from sleep. It however, able to reconfigure them for basic functions so the user is not left dead in the  water.
During my call, I ask the CSR what is the next step if the issues are not resolved. He mentioned deleting some sort of BT file somewhere.

  • Magic Mouse stopped scrolling in version 10.6.8

Hi, my mini mac which is a good 5 years old now has been working without problem over that period.
Recently, for now apparent reason the Magic Mouse has stopped scrolling/swiping - all other functions are OK, including right click.
When I go to mouse preferences I only see basic configuration options.  Not those that were there for the Magic Mouse.
I have read a reasonable amount on this topic and do not have the USBOverdrive software installed or any other peripheral software.  rebooted on several occassions with no joy.
I'd appreciate any help that can be offerred.
    Thank you

    Hi all,
Problem solved: After checking with a second computer, recent iMac also with SL, and a new Macbook Pro with Lion in an Apple store, it was proven that in my case it was a hardware problem of the mouse, and not a communication or software problem. Weird indeed, as no moving part was involved. The mouse was just one year old, but I received a new one free of charge at the the Apple dealer.

  • Magic Mouse not scrolling after OS X update

After OS X update (now at 10.10.3), my Magic Mouse no longer scrolls in Finder. Has anyone else experienced this? Double-checked Accessibility setting and scrolling is Enabled. Any suggestions on a fix would be appreciated. On a Mac Mini - Mid 2011 8gbRAM i7chip.

10.3 and earlier refer to Panther and earlier operating systems.  Please post in the Yosemite forum:

  • Magic mouse stopped scrolling after system update

Does anyone know why the mouse would stop scrolling after latest OS X update?
    Currently using V 10.8.5

    Hello Kaulfurst,
While the article states that it is for Lion, this applies for Mountain Lion, as well. You may need to check that scrolling is enabled in the Accessibility pane of System Preferences.

  • My magic mouse stopped scrolling

It worked for a few weeks then turned into a standard mouse.  I tried the uninstall of USB overdrive in Apps but it's telling me it's not installed.  So why is there an uninstall application then??  Also tired Magic drive uninstaller and that hasn't helped.

I'm not sure if it's because I have the magic mouse or maybe OS X (10.6.8) but there is no check box avaiable to check just a scrolling speed adjustment bar.  I've adjusted it with no change to gaining my scrolling function back.

  • Magic Mouse 'momentum' scroll setting

    Hello,
I am running 10.6.4 on my 21.5 i3 iMac. Under the scrolling preferences for the magic mouse I do not have a 'momentum' selection. Only inertia.
Does anyone know how I can get 'momentum' as a choice?

You aren't seeing all these options? (I don't see "inertia" as a choice. The dropdown shows "with or without momentum") You could extract System Preferences from the Install Disk using Pacifist.
    Here are Kappy's instructions.

  • NEW MAGIC MOUSE NOT SCROLLING.....

    HI,
I have just synced my new magic mouse with my macbook. However it just operates as a normal mouse. In the settings it comes up as an Apple Wireless mouse and doesn't give me any options other than a normal mouse. What is the problem and how can i solve it.
    Thanks

My problem has been solved by the people at Robina Apple Centre.
I had to have the mouse connected as it was and then do a system update. It found an update for the mouse and is now working. Thanks Apple.

  • Premiere Pro CC Update has Apple Magic Mouse Timeline Scrolling Backwards

I've used the Apple Magic Mouse and for thousands of hours on Premiere Pro versions CS5 and CS6 and I just updated to CC.  On the Magic Mouse, I used to press Option and then swipe right on the mouse to zoom in on the timeline and Option + swipe left to zoom out.  Now Option + swipe left zooms in and Option + swipe right zooms out.  It's backwards and it's so annoying.  I've tried searching for a setting to reverse this but no luck.  Anyone else having this issue or found a fix to get the Magic Mouse working the same was as in previous Premiere Pro versions?

I also use Logic for my music/audio production.   In Logic, if you press Option and swipe right it zooms in, and Option + swipe left to zoom out.   Basically the Premiere Pro CC update got this backwards.
