Magic Mouse Not Working for Scrolling

I had a problem scrolling and did not find the answer anyplace in the forums.  Some said it was a conflict with USB Overdrive, but when I tried to uninstall USB overdrive, it said it was not installed. But on another site I found this golden piece of information.
usb overdrive is a problem, if you remove a file called USBOverdrive.kext in
System/Library/Extensions, then restart, the problem is solved.
This solved the problem for me immediately.

  • Magic Mouse Not Working with Boot Camp.

    Hi All,
I have a wired issue here. I installed Windows XP on my iMac 27" using bootcamp and all worked fine till one day my Magic Mouse stopped working in Windows. Now the funny part is windows is able to detect my mouse and says that the device is working normally but the green light under my mouse is OFF. No matter what i try i cannot get it to come on. But the moment i boot to Mac OS X the mouse works perfectly fine. My Apple Wireless KB works just fine in Windows. A USB mouse also works fine. I have also installed Parallels on my Mac and when i boot into the Windows partition using Parallels the Magic Mouse works fine. Any idea as to whats going on here.?
    John.

I have a new (July 2009) iMac24 and neither the wireless mighty mouse nor keyboard work with Boot Camp XP Home Edition SP3. They install OK with the Bluetooth control panel, but then after five or ten seconds, drop out of the control panel and have to be discovered again. I spent two hours today with a Mac support expert, but no joy. We both gave up. It seems the wireless mouse/keyboard does not work with Boot Camp. If anyone hears of a solution, please let me know.

  • Lion - bluetooth for keyboard and magic mouse not working anymore

    Hi all,
I installed LION on my macbook pro yesterday. Today my macbook stopped recognizing my magic mouse via bluetooth - after rebooting the machine it also didn't recognize the bluetooth keyboard anymore.
When I try to pair the devices with my machine under system preferences it keeps finding them, but cannot pair any longer.
Did anybody else experience this problem - and solved it?
    Cheers,
    Gregor

I have the same problem, and so far no solution.  After Lion install, MacBook Pro 17" (mid'09) will not re-pair with my Apple bluetooth keboard.  First of all, it should not need re-pairing at all -- but it does.  Next, keyboard is recognized by Bluetooth Setup Assistant, but the the result is always "pairing attempt unsuccessful."  I am using new batteries, and the keyboard is two feet away from the MBP.  UGH.

  • Magic Mouse not working correctly??

I just installed the new Mountain Lion OS and now my Magic Mouse does not work correctly. First after I log in, I have to turn the mouse off and on then then it will move. When I goto the options menu for the mouse none of the addtional features are there for the mouse including the scrolling. Any suggestions?

Hi Hunters Dad.  I also had this problem and it turned out to be the bluetooth connection.  After I upgraded, the bluetooth connection dropped off system preferences.
To locate your bluetooth connections click on the Apple logo in top left hand corner of screen, select System Preferences and look under Internet & Wireless.  You should see Bluetooth there.  If you don't, then power cycle your computer  (see below).  Afterwards go back to the System Preferences and Bluetooth should be there.
To Power Cycle my computer Apple support had me  shut down my computer, take out the power cable and all other connections for one minute then plug back in and restart as follows:
press your computer ON button and then hold down the   p r command option  keys  at the same time until the 2nd chime.  I also have been having long boot ups since upgrading and the chimes didn't come on.  Applecare instructed me to stop holding the keys and the computer eventually booted up.  Lo and behold the bluetooth connections were visible and my magic mouse and trackpad now work fine.
    Hope this works for you.

  • Magic Mouse not working with Lion

My Magic Mouse does not scroll with Lion. Preferences are set up correctly. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I've been using my Magic Mouse on and off this year, but it worked perfectly fine when I upgraded to 10.7.0. I haven't used the MM since my desk finally arrived today and in 10.7.2 vertical scrolling of the MM just won't work. It's so frustrating because of those iOS-like scrolling bars that vanish. It's SO HARD to find them to scroll and then my wrists are in an awkward position just forcing my mouse to scrolling vertically (by clicking, no gesture).
I have however noticed that when I put my MBA Rev A to sleep and wake it again, that vertical scrolling on my MM will work again for about 10 seconds. My batteries are at 100%, so it can't be that.
This absolutely *****! Apple's attention to detail on these small things have slipped. I even had an issue with iPhoto 11 the other day when I noticed that you literally have to jump through hoops to manually force face detection on photos that the application can't automatically detect on . That feature used to be so intuitive in iPhoto '09. Too many balls in the air, Apple?

  • Why does magic mouse not work with duracel batteries

I bought an iMac a few months ago.
Now the batteries from the magic mouse are empty and I had to buy new ones.
Only they don't work. I had to pick cheap batteries from others devices.
Can anyone tell me which brand wil work?
    Thanks,
    Bernadette

I bought my iMac 2 years ago, it came with a Magic Mouse, within several months I started having the same battery issues. I looked here, and on the Internet to find out if the problem was already known about, but found only people guessing wrongly at what the problem is. I do hope Apple has fixed this, but unfortunately many of got stuck with a junk Magic Mouse. As an Engineer with 25+ years of experience in the design of electrical contacts & connectors which includes over 2 dozen patents ... believe me when I say the problem here is that the recessed positive contacts (at the on/off switch end) are too deeply recessed to make contact with the industry allowed variation in AA batteries. Those contacts are too deeply recessed because the plastic is too thick (in the hole that forms the recess) and the metal contacts are not tightly up against the backside of that plastic wall, in fact it looks like they are installed with a gap and/or can deform/bend away further opening that gap even larger. As mentioned above many industry AA battery standards define the positive button contact height as being 1.0mm or larger ... however that plastic wall is about 1mm thick, add the gap for the metal contacts and you have no electrical contact no matter how much contact spring force there is at the negative end. Unfortunately, there is no simple good fix for the average person to perform, the recessed contacts can't be accessed to bend them to remove that gap and the pastic is too thick anyway .. leaving us with a "duct tape" fix, like wadding some tin foil into that positive terminal recess and swearing when it falls out during battery changes. A nice elegent fix, would involve disassembling the mouse, machining plastic, backing up those terminals... absurd right?... would be easier if Apple sent us a new mouse that works.
This problem has nothing to do with overall battery length, battery diameter, or inadequate spring contact force from the negative mouse contacts. Also I doubt the brand or type of battery is the issue for anyone, the positive button heights vary among brands/types, but probably are 1.0mm or larger per the industry specs, Apple just didn't design this mouse to that industry spec, or they did not control their manufacturing quality to yield what they designed. This iMac was my FIRST Apple purchase after decades of avoiding and dismissing Apple, ironically they won me over with their progress and high quality products ... I'm rather disappointed.

  • Magic Mouse not working in 32 bit mode?

    Hello,
I decided to boot my 64-bit 8 core Mac pro in 32 bit and the mouse (bluetooth apple magic mouse) was not working... The keyboard did work however.
Im not necessarily looking for a remedy to this problem as I don't really plan on using my system in 32 bit mode on a regular basis..... I was just wondering why it might be doing this..
    Anyone have an idea?

Never mind... this is the MAC Pro section!
I must be really out of it this morning.... :/

  • Magic Mouse not working with rechargeable batteries

    Hello,
I have a Magic Mouse. I ran out of alkaline batteries and replaced them with Philips rechargeable batteries.
Magic Mouse refuses to turn on.
The same batteries, used in a MS Mouse work just fine. In fact, it works even with only one of them.
Are there incompatible batteries with Magic Mouse? Can anyone advise?
    Thank you.

I suspect it may be a voltage issue. Virtually all rechargeables work in my Mighty Mouse but I have not been able to get rechargeables to work at all in my Magic Trackpad. I have tried about 5 different varieties. What I have not tried, as I did not have any with me in France, are these "instant on/ready to use" rechargeables. I measured the voltage of newly recharged NiMh cells at about 1.47V, which quite quickly dropped to about 1.3 to 1.4V and then stayed there a long time. Fresh Alkaline were about 1.6 to 1.8V and fresh Oxyride or Lithium, about the same. For high current devices, the lower voltage of the NiMh cells may not be an issue, as their internal resistance is much lower than alkaline, so that the effective voltage in use may the same. However for very low current devices like Mice or trackpads, the free voltage may be more important,

  • Magic mouse not working properly!!

I open the mouse in system preferences, the mouse eventually works, but no settings as to setting it up for the multi-touch controls will not load, I push the set up blue tooth mouse, and the mouse will work, but not the scrolling and other features,I'm not sure how else to describe it, but if you need me to be more specific I'll try and clarify it!
Thanks for any help in advance!

  • Magic Mouse not working after USB mouse installed

    Hello,
I have been using my Magic Mouse for years then last week I inserted a USB mouse.  Once I'd finished using the USB mouse I removed it and tried to use the Magic Mouse but it simply didn't work.  Now - this is the odd bit.  The mouse is connected and shows the batteries at 100% and the cursur moves around the screen, however, when I click (left or right) nothing happens.  Oddly enough, the two finger swipe works fine.
    Any ideas???

    Hello DeeDub1978,
I'm having a little trouble working out which mouse does or doesn't do what, so can we start again.   It is possible there is no link between the faults on the two mice.
    1.     First, to check your USB mouse.   Does it have a nice healthy light when it is plugged in?   And is there a cursor showing on the screen?    And the roller ball in the centre of the mouse ... does that look clean or slightly off colour?
    2.    Then the Magic Mouse.   Although the batteries show 100%, is there a constant green light below ... or does it flicker.   With these mice there have been several reports of problems after the Yosemite upgrade and not having Yosemite I have no way of checking things out.   So if I say to you, on lower level OSs, an SMC reset would be an early move, I am not sure if it has the same effect with your OS.   If it can be done, do it.    I have to assume you have checked the settings and the pairing.
Clearly we need to get at least one mouse working and I think the USB one should be the main target.
Please answer in two separate sections in the way I have set out my questions.
Thank you for the star; I do hope I can improve and help repair at least one of them.

  • Gestures on magic mouse not working

    OS X 10.10.3
My Magic mouse works for a while and then the gestures stop working. I have 2 mice and it's both of them so it's not a mouse problem. I have an iMac retina

Don't be to sure about that.  Are you using a wired or wireless mouse?  Have you checked your mouse settings in System Preferences?
Repaired permissions and restarted your computer?
Dirty Mouse?  Check out An Easy Fix for a Magic Mouse Tracking Problem
Set up a test account.  See if the mouse works there.  This is to rule out a system wide problem.
After ruling out the above, you may have no other choice but to contact tech support. You will not be charged.  Also, since you have a desktop and you are still under the standard warranty, you may qualify for a tech support rep to come to your home.

  • Right click on Magic Mouse not working

    Hi
I am having this right click problem with my magic mouse.  The right click function just suddenly stopped working two days ago.
I have checked the Mouse>Preference> Secondary click is enabled to "Right"
However, when I changed the secondary click to "Left", the "right click" function works perfectly fine w/ the left click, but when I change it back to "Right" nothing happens.  I even tried unchecking the secondary click function (someone said that will work in another support site) but that doesn't help either.
I have tried removing batteries from my mouse, turning it off, turning bluetooth off, restarting the laptop...
Very confused right now.  Please help!!

The post is a month old now, but I did stumble upon it after I suddenly lost my "Magic Mouse" right click functionality.  Just as posted my; Mouse>Preference> Secondary click was enabled to "Right", though it would not work...
I tried everything including; restart iMac, enable and disable "Secondary Click", disconnecting the Mouse bluetooth and reconnecting it using my Magic Trackpad, etc.... until this ended up being my solution:
I went into System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and disabled "Secondary click".  Then restarted the system.  Then returned to System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and re-enabled Secondary Click.  That worked and was my solution and has been working fine since yesterday.
I hope this helps anyone who encounters the same as we have.
