Magic Mouse on Glass Surface

Hello All,
i have my new iMac i7 on its way from China to the US. I have a glass surfaced desk at home and wonder if any of you know if the magic mouse will work on that material. Appreciate your help!!!

I ordered an aluminum mouse pad to go with the new Magic Mouse, is called the MacPadd. Apparently the inventor is a rather strange individual (do a Google search on MacPadd) however the mouse pad is very sharp.
I have a feeling that they may not be available for long and are probably going to become collector items, therefore if you are interested, I would place an order before they are sold out.
I ordered direct from their American distributor, Other World Computing.

  • Magic mouse on glass mouse mat

I use a glass mouse mat with a couple of gaming mice but i have another mouse that doesnt like it
i'm just wondering does magic mouse work with glass mouse mat?
    thanks

The Magic Mouse works well on any surface the laser light doesn't penatrate.  Glass doesn't work well but if the black glass is dense enough it could.  Using a mouse pad or piece of paper or magazine will fix that issue.

  • Magic Mouse multi-touch surface not working.

Three months ago, I purchased the Magic Mouse. Recently, the multi-touch surface has not been responding. The tracking and bluetooth connections are fine. I have checked the Mouse Preferences and these appear to checked correctly. Any suggestions?

  • Inside lesion in the top surface glass of my Magic Mouse

    Hallo to all.
This is my Magic Mouse purchesed in Itali on March 22 2011.
I always always maximum care and it has never any fallen. These days I've suddenly noticed a lesion in a top glass surface . What should I do? Does Apple warranty cover these problems?
    Thanks

As it's still under warranty I'd call Applecare and they'll probably replace it for you.

  • TS3048 Is there a way to "calibrate" the magic mouse? I have rearranged settings for mouse, air-cleaned, tried different surfaces, however, it seems to be misinterpreting finger movements and randomly trying to open launchpad when enabled.

Is there a way to "calibrate" the magic mouse? Batteries are good. I have rearranged settings for mouse, air-cleaned, tried different surfaces, however, it seems to be misinterpreting finger movements and randomly trying to open launchpad when enabled-flashing between the app I am in and launchpad. When right-click is enabled I have to go to the extreme upper left of mousepad to click or it is interpreted as right-click. Won't consistently "scroll". Suggestions?

  • Is there a way to reduce the effective surface area of a magic mouse?

I apparently cannot hold my mouse the "correct" way. My palm still wants to rest on the back half of the mouse, particularly when I want to scroll. And sometimes when I grab the mouse, my finger will swipe the edge and cause the screen to scroll.
All I want to do is reduce the active surface area of the touch surface to be more centralized toward the front, you know where most mice buttons and scroll wheels are located. I have found no advantage to having such a large active surface area with the way I use a mouse.
Love the concept. Now I just want a little more control.
Oh, and since this is a typically, beautifully designed Apple product, an aesthetically pleasing solution is preferred, i.e. no duct tape.
Are there any clear protective adhesive covers for the Magic Mouse that would help?

The concept of the Magic Mouse is brilliant. I hated the scroll wheel. Loved when Apple had the scroll ball. But then that got annoying (all those track ball issues from days gone by are just as present with the scroll ball).
I thought the capacitive surface was the solution. Now it has only created its own version of the problems. I don't know if it is the software, bluetooth, the hardware, or increased sun spots. But it works brilliantly when I don't want it to (finger just hovering above the surface or just accidentally brush the edge with my finger) and doesn't when I need it to (surface area too large and the initial hesitation before it starts scrolling, which makes the screen jump to catch up).
What I hate most is when I am scrolling a window that has a embedded window that also scrolls (most often on web pages). The whole page stops scrolling. It's like a magnet to my curser (in that Murphy's law way). No matter where I put my curser when I scroll a window, it will almost always be where that embedded window is inline and stop my primary window from scrolling.
Has anyone gotten this right? Apple has done the best that I've found, but there is still much that needs improving.

  • Magic Mouse - no click on whole surface

    Hello,
I run SL 10.6.2, installed Magic Mouse update nevertheless, installed MagicMouse. Gestures work fine with one exception: I can click left and right, but only with the click noise as any other mouse.
I thought the whole surface will work for a left click, but it does not, only when I push so that the mechanik mouse click start. When I jut tap on the surface, there is no click at all.
Before this I used BT MightyMouse. But this I disconnected and deleted the preference-file for that as well.
    Any ideas?
Am I right, that the click should do by just tapping somewhere on the (left) surface of the mouse?

You can click anywhere on its surface, but you have to press hard enough, so the surface moves down to make a click. The touchpad on Apple laptops works the same way. You have to press enough for the touchpad to move down for it to send a click.
If it sent a click just by touching, you would get accidental clicks when positioning your fingers on it for scrolling, or other gestures.

has a Tap Click function which may give you what you want, but may make other operations trickier.

  • Why does my magic mouse button and scroll surface not work?

My MacBook Air 13" ran out of power before I could connect it to a power source. After I was able to power it on again, the Magic Mouse button and scrolling surface could no longer work even though I could still use the optical pointer below to move the cursor. How can I restore the button and scrolling surface. Have tried powering down and up both the MacBook Air as well as the mouse. Also tried unpairing and re-pairing both but nothing works so far. Thanks.

Have you tried to edit your settings in Apple menu -> System preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse?

  • Magic Mouse Surface

Hello, i have a "problem" with my magic mouse!
the problem is, i use my magic mouse on a wooden desk, now on the just mobile alupad (designed for magicmouse) but it feels so scratchy and isn't smooth to move, its like moving it over sandpaper (on the desk and on the mousepad)... i already bought a 2nd magic mouse to see if its better with that one, but still on wood and the mousepad it feels like moving it on verry rough sandpaper. i don't care about the noise, but i just want something where the mouse moves smooth
what are you using as a surface for the magicmouse?
thanks for any help / suggestions

    A mouse pad.
Microban mouse pad purchased at Office Depot. Works great for me with a new Mighty Mouse.
    No noise.

  • Best Surface for Magic Mouse?

I am on a wooden desk and used a Magic Mouse just recently.. Its been ok, but jumpy and not that precise..
I have tried a mouse mat which was a little better, but then a small portable table which wasn't ideal but managed to get close enough to the desk and its very accurate!
I realise before ditching the Magic Mouse and its jumpyness etc that its not the mouse but the surface!
Can anyone recommend the most accurate surface for MM? is it a black/white mouse mat? wood?
I had no idea this would make so much difference!!

    Hello:
I have seen nothing that indicates a "best" pattern.  I use an old "Alaskan Moose Pad" mouse pad complete with a moose picture and it works very well.

  • Magic Mouse no longer works on desk surface (varnished wood)

My magic mouse used to work fine without a mouse pad, but recently has become almost non-functional. As I move the mouse around on a varnished wood surface, it now seems to lag badly, almost stopping completely despite contined movement of the mouse. I've tried trashing the prefs, uninstalling MagicPrefs, reinstalling MagicPrefs, dumping MagicPrefs for BTT, etc. Nothing seems to work. I do have to regularly clean the plastic tracks on the bottom due to a buildup of dust, etc, but that, too, does not improve my performance. Does anyone have other suggestions for how to fix this problem? It would be a shame to have to use a different mouse.

    WildBill,
I'd use a Q-tip and clean the laser light and sensor. Try new batteries (not rechargeables) and look for anything causing interference on the 2.4 mhz band.
I had this problem with a mighty mouse where it would only track on magazine or something with lots of color variation. I eventually just replaced it.

Edit: One addition thought. If you use the program USB overdrive, it's known to cause conflicts.

  • The Multi-touch surface of the Magic Mouse could be more smoother and the sensor could be more sensitive on different kinda surfaces.

) I have a ProLink bluetooth mouse with me labelled 2.4GHz wireless mouse with this USB bluetooth stub that is inserted into the USB port in order for the mouse to connect to my iMac. (i'm not a techincal guy)
Is this mouse connected at the same time as the Magic Mouse? If so, unplug it.
    Try resetting the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
Try putting it on a mouse pad.

  • Magic Mouse vs. Glass Table Top

    Hi -
Will the new magic mouse work on a glass table top? I have been having issue with my older mouse not functioning on the glass table top and wondered if I took the plunge to a new magic mouse if I would experience the same thing. Other mice (e.g Logitech) touts a dark laser that should work, but I did not want to go that route unless necessary.
    Thanks - Ziggy

It seems to have started when I tried to use it on a black glass table.
Try using it on a mouse pad or a plain piece of white paper.

  • Scratche along the surface of a brand new Magic Mouse

Did this happen to anyone else?
A brand new iMac arrived at my address today. It did not look as if the box had been tampered with and the accessory box had everything secured in their plastic and polyurethane bags. Nevertheless, when I removed the Magic Mouse from its bag, I noticed it was covered with sctatches, as if it had been cleaned with a dusty cloth or used for several months by a careless hand.
I don't believe I can ask Apple for a replacement, but was wondering if this problem happened to anyone else. It is the first time I receive an accessory from Apple that looks used.
If some Apple rep is reading this, the Magic Mouse has batteries pre-installed in it (another oddity -- I don't remember batteries inside the mouse from a previous purchase) and they are Energizer AA batteries.
    Thanks,
    Alessandro

    Alessandro,
The Apple reps rarely read these forums as they are user to user.
The Mouse should have arrived in packaging material and without the batteries installed. It sounds like the mouse was "swapped" for a used one. I would call Applecare or whoever you purchased the iMac from and request a new one. I would think they would oblige without problems.

  • Magic Mouse barely/erratically tracks on any surface..

erratically tracks on any mouse pad, bu tracks perfectly on a magazine or on a desktop...id say "Use it on desktop..duh" - but its scuffing the **** out of the finish on my desk so now what?
I love this thing but it refuses to work on any standard mouse pad (tried 3). Faulty sensor?

    Hello s:
Actually my magic mouse works best on a mouse pad.
Try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting (probably not the problem). If that does not help, take it to an Apple store (test on their systems) or call Applecare for a replacement.
