Magic Mouse Question

I just set up my new Magic Mouse and I really like it so far. Seems pretty smooth and no more track ball cleaning! One question. Since the side buttons that were on the mighty mouse were not put on the magic mouse, Im assuming the function they performed is not available in the wireless mouse, that is the ability to pull all open windows to the from screen for viewing and selecting a particular one? I found that to be a very useful tool when working back and forth between different windows. Is there another way to perform that, perhaps through a keyboard shortcut?

On my iMac 17" flat panel, I use the function F9 key to display all open windows.

It's a Magic Mouse question. I have set this up in Preferences by ticking Swipe between pages with one finger and also Swipe between full-screen apps with two fingers,  however when I try to do the latter, the 2 finger swipe will take me from the app that I am on to the dashboard only and not to my other open apps.
I also find that Smart zoom only works with some apps, for instance not with Word docs or email.
How can I correct this please?

Just figured out it also does not work with the Mail app.

  • Magic Mouse Question (does this go on this discussion board)?

Hi - I've just purchased a Magic Mouse, and have a bit of a problem: it appears as though certain applications (ok, most, but, importantly, not all) do not recognize mouse clicks. EG, if I try to close or minimize a window in Mail (or Firefox), the mouse click isn't recognized. Interestingly, the same mouse click IS recognized for another application (eg, Word).
Has anyone seen this before? It is very strange, and of course, very frustrating (Magic Mouse is back in its cage, USB mouse is now helping out).
Oh, and by the way - I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this in, saw another magic mouse post in this forum, so figured I'd give it a go.
    Thanks again!

Curiousier and curiousier - the magic mouse seems to work fine for my account, but not my wife's. In her account, the mouse seems able to track, but clicks don't seem to be uniformly recognized. For example, I cannot click on system preferences icon to open it. I cannot click on the minimize or close buttons in browser.
Big clue - the mouse doesn't seem to be 'discoverable' by bluetooth (even though it is obviously discovered on one level).
Weird - but super inconvenient. Back to the old reliable, usb mouse - for now.

  • Newbie Magic Mouse question re batteries

    Just a quickie.
Is it absolutely necesssry to switch off the Magic Mouse, using the switch on the base, at night?

There's another thread on this topic but I think it's common for people to only get a month or so of use on the Magic Mouse before you need to change batteries. You might consider buying rechargeable batteries as I think they'll pay for themselves in a year or less. Although there may be a technical fault that accounts for the short battery life, I have wondered in that other thread on this topic if people are actually doing more with the Magic Mouse than they would have on most other wireless mice. Since the entire upper surface is sending a lot of signals to the controller when it's stroked, and we tend to be caressing the surface almost constantly, maybe it's just doing more 'work'. If Apple claims that you can get four months on a battery from this, their testers may not have been using the mouse the way I found myself using it.

  • HT3904 Magic Mouse Question

I purchased a magic mouse off craigslist and would like to change the device name. It shows the previous owner's name. Currently i'm running Mac OS X version 10.5.8

On my Mac, there is no option to "Rename" under the gear wheel.
    My options are:
    Disconnect
    Show More Info
Once I check "Show More Info" the menu contains:
    Disconnect
    Add to favorites
    Update Device Name
    Update Device Services
    (checked) Show More Info
I would have thought that "Update Device Name" would be what's called for, but it does nothing. This is pretty annoying, I'm reminded of the previous owner's identity every time I connect and disconnect the device.
    What's the solution here?

  • Simple question.  Will my Magic Mouse work in Windows 8 Boot Camp 5.1 (Mavericks)

I think my question says it all.  My magic mouse is not working and will not pair with my Windows 8 Boot Camp install done from the Mavericks Boot Camp setup.  Should it work?  Does it not work?  Thanks.

you don't mention what mac you have because I suspect that the bluetooth driver for windows only support 1 input at the time over bluetooth
my magic trackpad works fine with bluetooth but my bluetooth mice require being run as usb device it can't connect using bluetooth at all

  • I have a question about the new Magic mouse and wireless keyboard.

Just wondering. My computer is in my kitchen, against a wall, and connected to my t.v. directly on the other side of this wall in my living room. My question is this, can I use the wireless mouse and keyboard with the computer in the living room, through the wall, while mirroring the screens? Hope this makes sense. In other words, will the magic mouse and keyboard have the strength of range to connect through the wall. Thanks.

It depends on how far it is and how thick your walls are. If there plasterboard partitions and only 10 feet apart then probably.
If you have a mobile phone with bluetooth, then try sending the computer a picture of file from similar distances to that you intend using the keyboard, if it works then a bluetooth keyboard and mouse should.

  • Using Apple Magic Mouse With Windows 7 64 bit and Parallels Desktop 8 questions

I will be getting an iMac in the coming months and installing Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 64 bit.
I was wondering if I would have the functions of been able to left click, right click, scroll (preferably vertically but also occasionally horizontally) with the Apple Magic Mouse when I'm running Windows 7 through Parallels Desktop 8?
I just wondered if anyone has installed Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 and have you been able to do what i mentioned above and also have you come across any other issues, problems whilst using the Apple Magic Mouse on the Windows side?
If there is any problems/issues with doing the above, is there anything I will need to do to get the above functionality to work?
    Thanks in advance.

    The same with the trackpad!
Sometimes scrolling is a bit too fast, becuase Win 7 isn't made to use with the Magicmouse or trackpad.
The only thing i miss / doesn't work ist the middle mouse button!
Thanks very much for the help stz-42 its much appreciated.
Providing I can left click, right click, scroll, then that's OK for me as I will be spending the vast amount of my time on the Mac side.
Are you able to scroll both horizontally and vertically when using Parallels 8 Win 7 64 bit on your iMac?

  • Magic Mouse Tracking Question

I'm on my second Magic Mouse. Returned the first because the tracking was really bad. This second is better, but not as good as my old Mighty Mouse.
I've noticed that the Mighty has a red light next to the optical sensor and the Magic doesn't have this. Wondering if this might be a cause for the worse tracking. Is it true that the Magic Mouse does not have that red light that the Mighty had???
I'm digging the Magic Mouse but not sure what to do if I can't find a way to improve the tracking.

My system's Magic Mouse has been acting up since I got the machine as well. My old wireless Mighty Mouse is fine. After doing some researching online and testing of my own, it would seem that there are two causes.
    1) Magic Mouse transmitter placement and power level are less than optimal. Maybe the multi-touch surface results in a poorer signal, maybe it's just not as powerful as the Wireless Mighty Mouse, but the result is the same.
    2) Mac Pro bluetooth antenna placement doesn't afford the best possible reception, especially on machines configured with wifi (since the wifi antenna may interfere with bluetooth reception).
Individually, each of the two are very minor issues. However, combine the two and you get poor reception and tracking (mouse appears to skip across the screen or lose signal for periods of time). In some cases, simply moving the machine can reduce or eliminate the problem (even only a few inches). In others, I've seen DIY solutions ranging from going inside the machine and moving the antenna to rigging up an external antenna wire. Still others have suggested getting an inexpensive bluetooth dongle (available from a lot of outlets online for under $20) and plugging it into the Mac Pro.
Dongle's (inexpensive Belkin adapter) been working well for me, I've had no signal or tracking issues since.

  • Is anybody else struggling with an intermittent connection when using the Magic Mouse/Trackpad ONLY on Boot Camp?

    Hi,
I've seen thousands of posts about Bluetooth connection issues and interference and stutter/lag for both the Magic Mouse and Trackpad (affecting both Mac OS X and Windows under Boot Camp) but my problem is different.
To summarise my setup, I use:
    - Retina MacBook Pro (lid closed or open, doesn't make a difference to this problem)
    - Thunderbolt Display
    - Wireless Keyboard
    - Magic Trackpad (have also tried a Magic Mouse and experience similar issues to the Trackpad)
And in Mac OS X, everything works perfectly. The keyboard and trackpad work smoothly when I'm 6-7 metres from the machine, whether or not the laptop lid is open or closed, and whether or not the Thunderbold Display is connected.
But on to my problem: the bluetooth connection is incredibly unreliable/intermittent when in Windows (I run Windows 7 64-bit and Boot Camp 4.0, and got both devices connected without any trouble via Bluetooth).
But during usage, the cursor stutters/lags frequently, and tap to click (when enabled) seems to get triggered by mistake all the time (even when I'm not touching the Trackpad or even at the computer, clicks get registered).
The Wireless Keyboard is perfect, and works well 5 metres from the machine. The Mouse and Trackpad, though, don't even work reliably when they are 6 inches from the machine. The built-in trackpad on the laptop works perfectly too, in Windows and Mac.
I spent a week assuming I was suffering from Bluetooth interference, so I tried:
    - using the laptop with the lid open
    - removing the Thunderbolt display completely and trying the Magic Trackpad
    - repositioning items on my desk
    - disabling wifi
All of these adjustments made minor differences to how good/bad the Trackpad was, but none came close to fixing the problem or making it work as smoothly as under Mac OS X. It was only after doing all of this that I realised perhaps it was just a Apple driver for Windows issue, so I booted into Mac OS X and tested everything out, and sure enough, it's all perfect. But back into Windows, the Trackpad doesn't work reliably at all.
Obviously, the hardware is not at fault, and I assume the signal strength doesn't vary between operating system (why would it?) so I'm left believing this must be a driver issue. The TrackPad and Magic Mouse drivers have been out for a couple of years, so I'm surprised they can still be this bad. I tried both the latest driver from Boot Camp 4.0 (3.2.0.0) for the Trackpad, and also the older one from Boot Camp 3.2 (3.1.0.7) and both are equally bad for me.
So my question is: has anybody else struggled with using the Trackpad (or Magic Mouse) with Boot Camp 4.0 and Windows 7 64-bit, whilst finding it to be perfect under Mac OS? I haven't found many posts complaining about the Windows driver, which is why I assumed it was an interference issue. But I'm almost sure it isn't, having spent 2 weeks investigating.
    Any thoughts/suggestions/answers much appreciated!
    Kyle

    SOLVED!
After much testing, I have found the cause of lagging/jumpiness on the Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad in Boot Camp. Hopefully this will help others:
The drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter have a setting called "Bluetooth Collaboration" that is Disabled by default. Enabling this option removes the problem instantly. My Magic Trackpad now works flawlessly, even if I stand 6 metres from the machine. It now works just as well as under Mac OS. The setting can be found under:
Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties". Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
I narrowed the problem down to the wireless card by disabling ALL startup services and processes for Windows, then re-enabling one by one. As soon as I enabled the Windows Wireless Service, the problem came back. Similarly, disabling the Wireless Card inside the Network and Sharing Center (or Device Manager) removes the problem. This led me to believe it must be a driver issue with the wireless card, since the problem didn't occur with the Magic TrackPad under Mac OS, or on my mother's Windows 7 64-bit computer. So when I went into the Driver Properties to check for an update, I found this setting about Bluetooth Collaboration.
I really hope this helps others trying to use Bluetooth devices under Boot Camp. All Apple notebooks use the Broadcom card (and have done for years), so this driver is installed for almost anybody using Boot Camp on an Apple notebook. I'd assume this problem would affect anybody using Boot Camp + wifi + a Bluetooth device.
    Cheers

  • Magic mouse and number keys not working

Last year, Wet Baloney had a problem:
I have a first generation iMac with the wireless keyboard of that vintage and a new Magic Mouse.
All of a sudden the keys on the numeric keypad part of the keyboard do not work. The number
keys at the top do work.
Also (all of a sudden) this computer is not detecting my wireless Magic Mouse. There is no battery
problem. The mouse works fine with my MacBook Pro.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas ??
While this question was not answered, Apple decided to archive it anyway so I'm reposting. I had this problem and my sysadmin wizard figured out what is happening. The solution is to open "System Preferences" --> "Universal Access" and select Mouse. Turn off "Mouse Keys". What I don't know is how that got turned on but it happened when I did a Mac OS update that came out around March 28, 2011. Anyway, that fixed both the mouse and the keypad problems. I'm posting so that someone doing the same search I did can find this answer.

Thank You for this!! I was having problems using my Numeric keypad on a wired keyboard - when I used the number keys, the wireless magic mouse would lock up - the only way out was to Force Close the Application . . . Turning off "Mouse Keys" and hitting Shift > Clear turned everything back to normal.

  • How can I use my Magic mouse in a Macbook pro?

I have an iMac and I'm using the magic mouse. I just got a Macbook Pro and would like to use the mouse with this computer too.
How can I make it work in both computers?
I won't use them at the same time of course. I use one during the day, and the other at night so I'm hoping to make the mouse work in both.
    Thanks in advance!!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You have been very helpful! I will try that! Thanks!!

    Hello
Simple problem - don,t know how to solve it.
With Premiere CC when I try to do a selection (click... drag... release the click) very often it stop way before the end of the move I'm swinging the Magic Mouse. I taught that the mouse clicking was defective and went to get a new Magic Mouse after lots of frustration. Today, I have an edit to do it it does the SAME thing !!
    I was like ????#$%?&*(???
Opened all the lights and taught I've trow the new mouse to the garbage and was using the defective mouse again... no !! - ??
Actually, the bran new mouse is doing the same thing. What I understand after investigating on the motion and watching carefully my fingers !! -  is that when I click I have to keep my finger at the EXACT same place on the mouse... drag and release and it's fine. If I click by pushing on the mouse and my finder is moving of a 1/32th of a millimeter, it will release and my selection will be to redo. You can understand my frustration ! - 75$ later... same problem, but I know that if I click with about 5 pounds of pressure and trying to pass my finger through the plastic of the mouse, it you stay steady and make it !
The problem is that scrolling is enable while clicking and it bugs.
    How to disable it ??
Simple question - can't find the answer !

    Helllooo !?
sorry but the Magic Mouse is just useless with the new Adobe Premiere CC and since I'm not the only one but can't find answer this is really disappointing. This mouse is just fantastic and now I have to swap from a USB mouse to the Magic Mouse every times I do some editing. My USB mouse if hurting my hand somehow and I want to got back to the Magic Mouse asap. Please - for sure there is a simple solution !
    Thanks !!

  • Wireless keyboard and magic mouse

Getting these two peripherals, plus an M-Stand (all bought at the A store) were great purchases. This is my one year report.
The reason I got this set up (which can get burdensome to carry when you go on long trips) was because upon getting my mbp I didn't like the feel of the case's hard edge against my wrist when typing extensively (which, as a writer, I do). But I also really liked the design of the wireless keyboard and the magic mouse (although at first it took some getting used to to the mouse, even bought that little gummy add-on some enterprising cats had come up with, but chucked it pretty quickly after that as it became useless).
so anyway, what turned out to be another advantage of using peripherals with my macbookpro is, since in the year that I got this mbp I used the actual keyboard very little, the computer still looks pretty much news, none of those grease marks on the wrist page or signs of wear and tear on the trackpad. pretty awesome that
    any thoughts from anyone else?

PS: oh, the last thing I should add. I've always felt some major iMac-envy. I like the big monstrous desktop computer look better than laptops. ideally, I would have a humongous iMac and the 15 incher, but for now I have to content to myself with the latter. but by mounting it on the M-stand, I'm sort of making it look like an iMac in a way aren't it

    Joni Chacho wrote:
I guess the only question was to ask if this kind of set up was prevalent among macbookpro users.
That's a different story.  If that is what you want to know, yes I have a magic mouse, apple wireless keyboard and also  have the mStand.  It is convenient to use when at a desk to bring the mac to eye level.  Many people use this type of setup.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • Is Magic Mouse compatible with PC and Windows Vista

Hello to everyone, I'm a new member of this forum, I hope someone will help me, please.
I'm taking a look at the latest beautiful Apple's product and I felt in love with Magic Mouse, I'd like to have it for ma PC (not a Mac) with OS Vista.
Is there anyboby who knows if this mouse is compatible with a Pc and Windows Vista OS?
Actually I don't have bluetooth thecnology on my pc but if Magic Mouse were compatible I'd buy an usb adaptor.
Thanks to everyone will help e!

I asked a similar question a few hours back and no answers yet. I think nobody knows since nobody has had the chance to test them. If previous releases are any indication, you'll probably get basic functionality because it is bluetooth, but for the advanced features or setting options you'll have to wait for a Windows driver, which can sometimes take a few months or more.
