Magic Mouse - random zooming

Does anyone have a random zooming in and out on the Magic Mouse? Not as in the Control+Scroll zoom, but like if you pinch and drag on something.
Occasionally my mouse decides to do this, which a)would be great if I could actually pinch and zoom and b) is really distracting when it happens by itself.
Any ideas?

Magic mouse activates the 'scroll wheel zoom' when you touch the mouse almost anywhere. I found it too annoying. Apple needs to update the software to recognize scrolling as a gesture. I hope Apple does an update, because right now I'm stuck with using a clunky but reliable Dell mouse, as my Mighty Mouse is also unreliable.

  • Magic Mouse randomly enabled tap to click

Hey guys. I've had a magic mouse for over a year now, and I've loved it for all those years.
Until recently, when it decided to randomly enable the "tap to click" feature.
I didn't even know there was a tap to click feature, and I can't find a way to disable it in system prefs.
I've tried disabling MagicPrefs, restarting the mouse, restarting the computer, restarting bluetooth, and putting new batteries in the mouse, all to no avail.
    It's driving me insane.
How do I get rid of this?

There isn't a "tap to click" in standard OSx mouse preferences, only a physical click. This must be coming from MagicPrefs. Open the preferences for MagicPrefs (it should be listed under "other" in System Preferences) and select the "clicks & Taps" tab. Under Taps, uncheck all the one finger options.

  • Turn off magic mouse scroll zoom

Whenever I'm in Illustrator and am holding down Shift Option Command the slightest scroll on the mouse makes everything zoom all over the place. How do I turn this off? I found an old thread on this  and the Adobe guy said it's Apple's fault and I should buy a new mouse. No. That's not the answer.

The ineffectiveness of the Magic Mouse preference settings in OSX as regards scrolling is most definitely Apple's fault. Here is what you need to know:

About The Problem:

Apple is not going to fix this problem. It's been an issue dating back nearly a decade and continues still. It is either beyond the scope of Apple's programming intelligence, or they simply don't care about you and your problems. Apple's programming intelligence pretty much speaking for itself, the only option left is that Apple doesn't care. It's one of the perks of the modern day tech business paradigm, where companies like Apple have so many millions of customers and so much momentum behind their market share, they don't have to care about you, the single, obscure nobody, with your Apple computer you've already paid for. Apple also being a die-hard fan-based enterprise, it knows full well that for every one of us who might have a problem such as this, there are at least a hundred thousand others who would put up with just about anything just to be associated with the logo of an apple with a bite taken out.

The Fix:

Fortunately there is a brilliant, enterprising soul (or group of souls) behind the development of an app called MagicPrefs which more than compensates for Apple's indifference to this & other related problems. It not only addresses the inability to turn off the ever-annoying scroll action that happens anytime our fingers brush across the case of the mouse, it offers myriad other functions you might like.

You owe it to yourself to check out MagicPrefs, and thank the developers for giving us a means to rise above this bit of Apple stupidity.

  • Magic Mouse randomly can not connect on startup

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some advice. It seems to be something that has developed since lion where on startup of my mac the magic mouse on occassion will not be able to connect and iget the bluetooth window stating that no magic mouse or trackpad was found. My batteries are good, my desk is pretty clear and is no different to my setup since owning my magic mouse. There just doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it can find it and when it can't. Sometimes it will happen more frequently, obviously over the period of a few months it has been happening often which has led me to write.
The process i have to go through to connect is to flick the switch on the underside of the mouse and then it connects and then i have no issues with the mouse during the use of my mac..
    Hope someone can help.

    Hello:
No apology needed, I assume things at times.....
    Reset the PRAM like this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh26871.html
Reset the SMC (I am assuming an Intel-based Mac) like this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Make the device a favorite like this:
Go to system preferences>bluetooth.  Highlight the device.  If the sifdebar is not detailed, click on the little gear and then "show more info."  Then click on the gear and make the device a favorite.

  • Magic Mouse randomly "micro scrolls" when moving

I just bought a magic mouse to replace an older might mouse and it's exhibiting a new odd phenomenon. when moving around in web pages or in Mail, it occasionally scrolls a bit (~5 lines of text worth) in a window. when it does this i don't have any fingers on the touch surface (i've started to experiment to see what exactly causes this behavior) so I'm not "accidentally scrolling".
is anyone else experiencing this same behavior?

Ditto on the complaints. I am very frustrated. I'll be working in Aperture, for example, with an album of several hundred photos I am in the process of rating. As I go to reach for the mouse to click on a particular photo, the mouse activates a scrolling function and POOF!... I'm at the top of my photo album, forced to scroll many rows of photos to get to that one I was about to click on. Google Maps is useless as well. iTunes also sporadically scrolls through music. My productivity is noticeably hindered by this phenomenon. As a result, I find myself grabbing the mouse like a fragile egg- just on its sides to prevent accidental scrolling.

  • Mac mini & magic mouse zoom

Does anyone know if it's possible to set the magic mouse to zoom the screen in/out solely by by using a finger gesture?
Currently I have to hold the control key on the keyboard and then single finger swipe up on the magic mouse to zoom in and down to zoom out. I'd rather set the mouse to perform the function that's useful to me, as in this case I have the mac mini set up with my living room TV. It's a 52" Toshiba HD and looks amazing but it's 12' away and I have a frequent need to zoom and I'd like to do it by using the mouse only and not have to also use the keyboard.
Thanks in advance to all you Mac geniuses...

Try something like MagicPrefs (http://magicprefs.com/) or Better Touch Tool (http://boastr.net/)
Both are very customizable and there seems to be lots of debate as to which is better.

    Hello there Curtis,
Your Magic Mouse can zoom in on the screen with this command:
    Screen zoom
Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and scroll with one finger on Magic Mouse to enlarge items on your screen.

  • Magic Mouse Jumps After Update to 10.6.8 - Help!

Ok so I have updated my 2010 iMac to v10.6.8 and now my Magic Mouse randomly spazzes across the screen or is very slow to move. I have installed the supplemental update in the hopes of fixing the problem, also reset the PRAM and SMC, all to no avail. I've seen quite a few threads about this issue for Lion users, but have yet to come across one specifically for Snow Leopard users.
If there is one and I'm just being blind, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
If there isn't and there's something else someone with better knowledge of this kind of thing than I have can suggest, by all means let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here comes the/my solution:
    Remove Sophos Antivirus
    Thanks to boojum's remarks in https://discussions.apple.com/message/15480849#15480849 !
    Don't forget to use Sophos' deinstall package: /Macintosh HD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg
Nevertheless, some settings have been re-initialized (no complete list!):
    - Dock
    - Language has been reset to English only
    - Expose & Spaces
    (- probably all personal settings?)

  • Set Up Bluetooth Mouse does not discover magic mouse

Had been having difficulty with magic mouse randomly exhibiting eratic scrolling so went into system preferences to reset the mouse settings (may have happened when upgraded to snow leopard). Under Bluetooth, mouse is paired and on but when i went into mouse settings and tried to use Set Up Bluetooth Mouse (I changed settings to enable two finger scrolling) mouse is not found. BTW there is a USB mouse connected, which I did when the eratic problems started.

    Hello:
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
I am not sure what would happen if both the Bluetooth and USB mice were connected at the same time......

  • Magic mouse and blue tooth issues after upgrading to 10.6.3

    Hi,
After upgrading to 10.6.3 I am having the following problems on my iMac:
    1) Magic mouse randomly disconnects during a session
    2) bluetooth wakeup no longer works (but is checked in bluetooth advanced settings)
    3) After waking up the system using the kb, bluetooth is not active for almost 10 seconds.
    4) System seems quite a bit slower
    5) Airport is also slower and also takes almost 20 to 30 seconds to become active after wakeup,
None of these issues were present on 10.6.2
    Any ideas?

  • Screen maginified and jumps around. Magic mouse issues

All of a sudden my magic mouse will zoom things without my command. It has magnified my screen so the whole screen (desktop) is not visible at one time and I can't figure out how to put it back the way it was. In the meantime, when I move the move everything jumps around. HELP! What is going on?

Sorry, I don't think you understand the problem I'm having. The mouse acts on its own all of a sudden. For example I will be in an application and just move the mouse (without touching the keyboard or attempting to click anything) and the screen will zoom to 400%. Now my desktop screen is so zoomed in that the top or bottom is missing. So when I move the mouse the whole screen jumps up and down or from side to side. No amount of tinkering in System Preferences has fixed it. Changing the screen resolution makes it worse actually. Holding the Control key on the desktop just brings up the menu for the desktop. It does nothing.
I've read that there are issues with the magic mouse. I guess that would be correct.

  • Inadvertant web page zooming with new magic mouse

Just added a magic mouse to my 2006 mac mini.  Now web pages suddenly magnify randomly, and can't get them to return to normal size.  How do I correct this?

I've found that (both through personal experience, and seeing reports on the forums) the Magic Mouse has problems falsely detecting the double-tap (which is what has activated the zoom).
You can leave the feature on, and double-tap the mouse to zoom out, or turn off "Double-tap to zoom" in the Mouse preference panel.

  • TS3048 Is there a way to "calibrate" the magic mouse? I have rearranged settings for mouse, air-cleaned, tried different surfaces, however, it seems to be misinterpreting finger movements and randomly trying to open launchpad when enabled.

Is there a way to "calibrate" the magic mouse? Batteries are good. I have rearranged settings for mouse, air-cleaned, tried different surfaces, however, it seems to be misinterpreting finger movements and randomly trying to open launchpad when enabled-flashing between the app I am in and launchpad. When right-click is enabled I have to go to the extreme upper left of mousepad to click or it is interpreted as right-click. Won't consistently "scroll". Suggestions?

  • Magic mouse zoom quit working

My magic mouse won't zoom all of a sudden, even in Safari...any clues?

Yes, I have had this problem ever since I upgraded to Yosemite. Resetting the PRAM does not work. I repeat, resetting the PRAM does not work. That is the only answer I have been given too. Apple needs to get a patch quick. This is an operating system issue!!!
