Magic mouse - right click doesn't work in certain user accounts

Hi,
I have configured my magic mouse to enable right click in my account without issue, however, in my wife and daughter's accounts, i am unable to set it up. When i click to enable right click in mice settings, I am able to tick the box to enable right click, but as soon as I close the settings application, and then reopen, the option to enable right click is no longer selected.
All accounts have admin privileges.
Any suggestions appreciated as right clicking is helpful.

Hi shorinsean,
Would you please let me know current situation of this issue?
à
no longer bring up the context menu in the Servers window (the top window) in the Server Manager details pane
Just a confirmation. I noticed that you describe
context menu. Did you mean the menu as below picture marked?
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Hope this helps.

  • Magic Mouse Right click menus not working

Just got a magic mouse (using 10.5.8) and when I right click on a dock icon, the menu comes up (ie empty trash) however I cannot (left) click any of the choices and the menu freezes. I have to right click the desktop to snap out of it. This is happening for all icons/menus. Anyone know of this issue? All other mouse functions (swiping, scrolling etc...) seem to be working. Regular right click functions work, it's just this menu issue.
    thanks

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
If not then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Mouse right-click doesn't work while clicking on files in folders

    Hi there,
I have an iMac 8,1 with 10.6.8 OS.
Mouse is a Logitech M-BZ105A connected via USB.
About a week ago, I've noticed weird problem with my mouse: nothing happens when I right-click on files in folders. Nothing shows up.
    - left-click works (it's set as the main one)
    - right-click works when clicking NOT on a file
    - right-click works when clicking files ON a Desktop
I tried changing right-click to the main one, but then the left-click wouldn't work.
Very annoying as I can't use many handy functions like Compress, Get info, Trash (of course I can still drag it to remove it, but RCM would be better).
    Restarting iMac didn't help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Good work so far, doesn't sound like the mouse, but maybe a 3rd party app.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Magic mouse right click problem in Mountain Lion

    Hi!
My Magic mouse right-click doesn't work in Mountain Lion! in previous OSes it was working properly (Leopard and Lion), but when I upgrated to Mountain, this problem occured.
if you click anywhere on the magic mouse, it simply do a click, not a right-click anyway...
I did a lot of searches and changes but the problem is still alive...
somewhere suggested disabling "Secondary Click", then restart, and then enabling it. but nothing changed...
somewhere suggested to remove two files named "com.apple.Bluetooth..." in /Library/Preferences, and then restart the system, but this not worked for me, too...
I changed the "Secondary Click" to "Click on the left side" but nothing changed and the magic mouse did just clicking and not right-clicking!
I wondered what can I really do to solve this problem?!
    any suggestion is appreciated...

I still use the magic-mouse and still it's not stable. I've found theONLY way to overcome the rightclick is to make sure that you're NOT pressing anywhere else on the mouse (even touching) and only pressing at theTOP right-hand most corner.
It's not the best resolution, but the best that Applecare could provide me with. I thinjk, because it's relatively new due to the new generation of capacitive touch devices that we all get the bugs/flaws.
As like the iPhone, although an EXCELLENT device, and the various versions of OSX, we're going to be plagued eith bugs until a newer review comes out.
The way I found out was to use BOTH tools (MagicPrefs and BetterTouchTool) together, and in both set the Rightclick sensitive area to a near nothing for system wide (non app specific).
It does fail at times on some apps, and takes a few clicks, but 90% of the time it's cleared up.
I somehow think that most developers (and yes its the developers not apple) that forget that we rest out palms on the mouse) and they don't filter out the events forrectly (i.e. a palm on the mouse is seen as a tap). Othere works well, for exmaple I use photoshop, which adapted well to the mouse. The majority of games, and including those (ESPECUALLY THOSE) flash mbased, don't like the mouse at all!

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Right-click doesn't work on select boxes, checkboxes & radio buttons. On other elements, there's no"Inspect Element" option

After installing FF 6.0, right-click doesn't work on select boxes, checkboxes & radio buttons, i.e. nothing happens on right-clicking.
The context-menu is available on other elements, but there's no"Inspect Element" option in the context-menu

Regarding the two-button click: just go to the "Sytem Preferences --> Mouse" pop-op and under "One Finger", check the "Secondary Click" box.  Problem solved.  I don't know how I missed this the first 3 times I went to there.    Oh well.
And as for why I had to change the Trackpad settings to get the Magic Mouse zoom feature to work (see original question): I'm still stumped.   Your guess is as good as mine.
    Hope this helps!

  • My iMac mouse right click does not work now

    Hi all,
My iMac mouse right click does not work now.  It was fine a couple of days ago.
Right click is definitely enabled, I have checked it several times.
A Google search revealed that in Firefox it could be that I'm not using the latest version of Firebug.  I have auto updates on and Firebug is the latest version 1.11.3
I use right click for correcting spell checked words, instead of a suggested correct spelling I get the 'open in a new tab' menu.
In Firefox when I right click to open in a new tab I get the menu but it does nothing.
    It is driving me mad
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Thank you
P.S. thought it was suddenly working when I did the spell check in this post but it was the left click doign it....

I don't use Firefox so I can't test it, but it might be something to do with a preference setting. Have a look at this link (ignore all the instructions), just look at the image of the preferences, there appears to be a setting in Javascript preferences relating to contextual menus. Check to see what your settings are:

  • File, edit, etc options no longer at the top of the screen since upgrade. My right-click doesn't work so I need the File, Edit options. How can I bring them back?

I only have Firefox tabs now and have not memorized all the Command keys to use when right clicking doesn't work. How can I access "File", "edit", etc....they used to be at the top of the screen before upgrade. I need to be able to copy/paste easily. Thank you.

The menu toolbar is hidden at default in Vista. You can use F11 to show it temporarily. Please also read this article:

  • Apple Magic Mouse--right click not working, left-right scroll not working

Brand new out of the box, right click does not work and neither do the left-right swipe. Is it likely I have a faulty mouse, or is there a software update or setting I have failed to find? Running 10.6.4 on brand new MacBook Air. Experts--help please

I have the same issue.  My magic mouse is only about a year old and i honestly don't use it that often... it seems to me the right click is not "connecting" well as i have to click several times or very hard to get it to make a clicking sound.  not sure if its stiff or broken or not.
Overall I'm pretty frustrated as this thing was EXPENSIVE.
Any ideas how to fix it?

  • Magic mouse right click issue

I just bought the new iMac 3 weeks ago with the magic mouse which I LOVE. But in the past week I have lost the right click function 3 times now. It acts like the right click option is turned off, which I verified and tried to reset and set back which didn't work.
The only way to reactivate the right click function is to reboot the machine entirely. I also tried to turn off and back on the mouse which didn't work and I had to get another mouse to even reboot after that!
The only thing that has changed is that I installed VMWARE fusion (which is hella cool!) and transferred my old XP image to. It seems to stop working after i have been using my XP or Win7 virtual machine after a while. Not always the case but the only thing I can think of that has changed or I am doing differently.
Any help on the subject would be great! Even a work around to get it working again without rebooting the machine would help.
Thanks in advance for you help!
    Jay

I'm not sure what all of those startup items do, but since none are obvious suspects, what you may want to do is remove them all (except iTunes Helper). In order to add them back later, you can right-click on each item and select +Reveal in Finder+, to see where the item is located. Note down the locations.
After you remove them from the +Login Items+ list, restart (or log out and log back in). Those login items should not be running anymore. See if that resolves the Magic Mouse issue. If it did not, you can add the items back. If it did resolve the problem, I guess you'll have to find the culprit by going to the locations noted earlier and starting one item up at a time, until the Magic Mouse problem returns.
Separately (you can try this first), when I make a change to my mouse settings (although I don't have a Magic Mouse), this is the preference file that changes
    <user home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
In case that file is corrupted in some way that prevents the right click from being set, move it to the Desktop. Then go to System Preferences Mouse pane and set it up as desired, including the right click. A new preference files should be created. See if the mouse now works properly.
Those are the two approaches I would take initially, checking the login items and the most obvious user preference file.

  • Apple mouse right click function stopped working

After 4 and a half years my Apple mouse right click function on my iMac stopped working.  However the mouse works perfectly on my other iMac.  The apple store said the problem is in the iMac.  Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks, jpm3577

First log into another user account on your Mac and see if it work correctly there.  If not boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try there.  Also try another USB port on the Mac if it's a wired mouse.

  • Right Click doesn't work with Magic Trackpad

The Magic trackpad is great. Finally I have something like the old trackballs I had to abandon to be able to scroll etc.
However I can't get the right click to work even though I have the secondary click checked in the trackpad preferences.
Any ideas how to get it to work?
Also, a real bummer is I had selected tap to click and went on a trip. My old MBP (pre unibody) with a trackpad and a button below it, doesn't have a "tap to click" option in the preference pane once the Magic Trackpad is no longer connected, so I couldn't disable it until I got home. Bad!

    Bump!
I have basically the same problem with my magic trackpad. I bought it to get the new features, but with no secondary click it's pretty much useless.
I have the options set for secondary tap. Which I assume is just like the regular trackpad. Two fingers and click - Context menu. But I just get a regular primary click. I hate to think that i wasted $70. Can anyone help with this? Please.
Just a side note: My tap-to-click and secondary bottom right click also don't work. Do I have a malfunctioning trackpad?
