Magic Mouse scrolling issues in Yosemite

Ever since updating to Yosemite (10.10.1) on my MacBook Air (2014 - 1.4 GHz i5, 4GB ram), my Magic Mouse has been exhibiting some odd behavior.  Often times when I try scrolling up and down a page in Chrome with a one-finger vertical motion, it decides to interpret the gesture as a one-finger right swipe instead, and ends up browsing back to the previous page.  I have checked carefully and the scroll gesture I am making is definitely vertical, not at all horizontal or diagonal.  Usually if I remove my hand from the mouse and try again it will be correct, though sometimes it takes a few tries.  It's very annoying and only started happening after I updated to Yosemite.
Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

UGH my mouse is doing the same thing and it's ******* me off, I keep going back/forward between webpages when I only want to scroll. It seems 50/50 though...sometimes it scrolls, sometimes it just goes back but it's super annoying. Anyone have a fix?!?!?

  • Suggestion for Apple Magic Mouse scrolling issue...

I have a Magic Mouse, approximately 3 years old. Recently, and suddenly, the horizontal scrolling stopped working. I tried every fix I saw suggested, here and on other sites, with no success. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to part with another $80 to get another one (because I really do like it), or try a different type of mouse (but none other seems to offer what this one does). This mouse has lasted through 3 years of heavy use, 3 young boys learning how to use it, several drops, 1 complete non-Genius tear-down and re-build, a couple of liquid spills, etc. So I figured I had nothing to lose; it didn't owe me anything.
So I dropped it. I banged it on the desk. Pretty hard. 3 times.
And now the horizontal scrolling works. Just fine.
When all else fails, try the inconceivable (what, bang or drop an Apple product on purpose??!!). It worked for me.

Love to watch you do that with your computer or your TV. Be sure to post the video.

  • Anyone else have a problem with Magic mouse scroll after Maverick update?

Now I have upgraded to Maverick (among other minor things) my Magic Mouse scroll often doesnt work unless I close the application it stopped working in and open it again.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? was there any worthwhile reason to update?

my new magic mouse scrolling & swiping will not work. Help??

I had this happen to me as well. just last week (july 28, 2014) I brought my magic mouse from home to work since my work mouse was going south. paired it with bluetooth, it moved and clicked but no scroll or gestures. searched till I nearly ready to give up. then I installed USB overdrive. many forum posts said too remove that. I didn't have it, so I installed it. and then un-installed it.  everything works great now.
    hope this helps someone.

  • My magic mouse scrolls backwards with Lion

After upgrading to Lion the up and down movements on my Magic Mouse are backwards. I move my finger down and the page goes up, and the reverse is true when motioning up.

See "magic mouse scrolls in reverse/backwards" for the answer.

  • Magic mouse is lag on Yosemite

My magic mouse is lag when macbook air mid 2013 was upgrade to Yosemite.
The mouse scrolling is sometimes slow but sometimes too fast on the safari page.
How to solve this is problem?

I'm on a Mac mini (Late 2012) running Yosemite (10.10.1) and had a lot of lag with my Magic Mouse. The mouse cursor would work smoothly for about 15 seconds then lag for about the next 15 seconds and continue the process all day every day since upgrading to Yosemite. I did the PRAM reset twice but it did not help.
    Fixed for me:
    Disable Internet Sharing
I came across this by accident when I noticed that my mouse was working fine all of a sudden and I went to reenable my internet sharing then the mouse started lagging again. Disabled internet sharing and mouse lag issues stopped. I'm also running Little Snitch 3.5 and I'm not sure if its a factor in the issue but it's currently active and mouse is running great. Will leave my internet sharing setting off.
Hope this fix works for someone else. Good Luck!

  • Magic Mouse Scroll

My son was playing on the computer and I think he did something to disable some of the magic mouse features. No scrolling, and right click works but only as the left click....that is, no cut/paste and no back button, etc. I can hit ctr and left click for those normal right click features. Old ball mouse works fine. Magic mouse has the same issue with the laptop. Any idea how to reverse whatever he did (though coulda been a coincidence too). Thanks running
    Mac OS X 10.6.8

Hmmm, on a good, (non-Apple USB Mouse), there's swap Primary button, but I've had so much trouble with Apple's pointing devices, (and seen many reoprts of failures), that I'd pay extra to have them pull their pointing device from the package if I ever could afford another Mac!
Hopefully we get some help in here that is more useful!

  • Magic Mouse (Scrolling and Swiping)

I know this has been asked several times, but I have gone through most of the posts to try and find a solution, and nothing has helped.
I initially lost scroll and swipe about 6 months ago, and ended up downloading MagicDriver (which has now expired and will not be developed any further). That was a solution for the time being. I've killed off the USBdriver file, I've reset everything I could reset, I've even gone so far as to buy a NEW magic mouse, thinking perhaps my "old" one was having issues.
But, I'm still unable to scroll or swipe.
I've tried turning my mouse on and off, and now it won't even connect to the computer... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do at this point.

I have had all the slow and other cursor problems described and was becoming desperate with withdrawal symptoms having had to use a wired standard WIndows mouse.
PROBLEM SOLVED - I noticed horizontal scrolling had improved whereas vertical was still appalling.
CLEANED THE MOUSE LENSES with spectacle cloth and cleaning fluid - cloth dampened.
Everything now BEAUTIFUL! and I am able to do amazing things having set up variousa options with MagicPrefs

  • Magic mouse scrolling windows 7 fails

I have the latest MacBook air and Windows 7 loaded thru VM Fusion. Everything works great EXCEPT the Magic Mouse vertical (natural scrolling) features.
Is there a fix so my mouse driver in Windows 7 will find and support ALL the features of the magic mouse. This doesn't seem like a real technical challenge, just getting the correct driver installed.

Your issue is with Fusion if the mouse works everywhere else.  I suggest you consult the Fusion forums:  http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/fusion

  • Magic mouse scrolling problems

My magic mouse no longer scrolls up or down, and it cannot swipe forward and back on webpages either.  Also, it randomly zooms in (without me pressing anything on the mouse).  I have checked all the settings in the preferences and all the checkboxes are correct.  This was all working fine up until about 2 weeks ago - not sure what's gone wrong.  Can anyone help with fixing this - be much appreciated as it's driving me mad.
    Thanks
    Graeme

Get a USB mouse first of all
-then go into the bluetooth prefs
    -removed the mouse
    -re-add it then test it
    -same issue
-then try a different user account
-if same issue is there test the mouse in recovery (CMD + R) it will look like setting the mac up again
-if issue happneds there the mouse is screwed - if it works then reinstall the OS

  • Magic mouse scrolls too fast. Set speed to lowest setting in system preferences.

How can I slow down the scroll speed of my Magic Mouse. Have set it at slowest setting in system preferences. Running OS X Yosemite on a Mac Book Pro 13 with retina display. Having a hard reading long articles regardless of what browser I use. Particularly bad with on line versions of newspapers.

  • Magic Mouse intermittent issues moving side to side

The Magic Mouse is connected and it will scroll up and down and also, I can move the mouse up and down.  The problem is, sometimes it gets stuck and will not move to the right.
This has actually been an issue for some time now.  Since it happens intermittently, it's more of a nuisance than anything else because ti will always eventually start working again....
I bought a brand new mousepad thinking that, perhaps, it was the surface causing the inconsistency; but it persists.  It always has working batteries in it.  Not quite sure what it is.
Anybody want to take a stab at a diagnosis?  Maybe the sensor? If it's the sensor, how would I clean it?

Go to bluetooth menu, and delete all previous mice, then try to re-pair again.
Make sure you turn off mouse AND computer.  Then boot up computer, THEN turn on mouse when you get to the MOUSE preferences to add it.

  • Magic Mouse connectivity issues

My magic mouse has been losing its connection lately. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display with the latest version of Yosemite. Could it be that the mouse is nearing the end of its life? I bought this mouse when the magic mouse first came out maybe 5 years ago. Any suggestions?

I've followed several threads and agree with Seventy One, the problem is mechanical and simple to solve.  Cleaning the terminals is sensible, but I also did this which has made my mouse connection robust.
    My Solution:
I took a thick rubber band cut it to about 1 inch in length.  I placed it across the negative end of the batteries between the batteries and the compartment lid (not between the batteries and the terminals as that would cause a different problem).  When I close the lid, without forcing it, the rubber band holds the batteries firmly in place.  The batteries last longer and there is no drop in connection.  You might need to experiment a little with the thickness of the rubber band.
I can now lift the mouse, tap it on the mouse pad, turn it upside down and use it on the ceiling, although I do need a ladder and it does make my arm go to sleep after a while.
I've read about resetting parts of the operating system, but I really don't like doing that because of the law of unexpected consequences.
The words "glue" and "precision piece of electronic equipment", should not usually be used in the same sentence and are not natural companions, but in this case, now that I have the right thickness and position, I'll glue the band or a similar piece of foam to the inside of the compartment lid.  I expect a future Magic Mouse may have this built in as it is such a common issue.

  • Magic Mouse stops working under Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I've been experiencing an issue where occasionally the Magic Mouse stops working.  I sit there and turn it off, turn it back on, sit there and click the mouse and move it around, but it doesn't connect to the computer.  I go into the Bluetooth Preferences and unpair it, but it doesn't show up on the list of devices and so I can't re-pair it.  Turning the Bluetooth off and then back on doesn't make it show up.  So far, the only thing that seems to help is to restart the computer completely.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?

My Mac Mini's power button changed functionality with Mavericks.  Now with a fast click of the power button the Mini sleeps.  A little longer and you get a shut down dialog, and of course, hard shutdown holding for longer still.  I don't know if the MacBook works like that in Yosemite.  If it does, use the button to Sleep, then again to wake, and 99% of the time you have a Magic Mouse again, with Mavericks at least.  Even if the button doesn't work, you can use control-fn-F2 to give the Apple Menu focus, down arrow to go down to Sleep, and Enter to make it happen.  Then wake however you normally do.  Still a nuisance, but slightly less intrusive than Restart, particularly if you have something you haven't saved yet. Worth a try maybe.
I only boot Yosemite for short periods from an external drive so far, so I can't vouch that this will work for it.  I come from a background where you don't install version zero of anything.  I have to say, with a clean install, so far I don't see the problems I read about here.  Maybe I need to work for a whole day with Yosemite sometime.
PS. I just tried turning off the mouse in Yosemite (and saw the disconnection reported).  Went to Sleep.  Turned on the mouse while Sleeping, Woke Up, and the  Magic Mouse reconnected just like Startup.
