Magic mouse scrolling problems

My magic mouse no longer scrolls up or down, and it cannot swipe forward and back on webpages either.  Also, it randomly zooms in (without me pressing anything on the mouse).  I have checked all the settings in the preferences and all the checkboxes are correct.  This was all working fine up until about 2 weeks ago - not sure what's gone wrong.  Can anyone help with fixing this - be much appreciated as it's driving me mad.
Thanks
Graeme

Get a USB mouse first of all
-then go into the bluetooth prefs
-removed the mouse
-re-add it then test it
-same issue
-then try a different user account
-if same issue is there test the mouse in recovery (CMD + R) it will look like setting the mac up again
-if issue happneds there the mouse is screwed - if it works then reinstall the OS

  • My magic mouse scrolls backwards with Lion

After upgrading to Lion the up and down movements on my Magic Mouse are backwards. I move my finger down and the page goes up, and the reverse is true when motioning up.

  • My magic mouse scrolling is stuttering in safari 5.0.5. Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
This has been a problem for a while now but am finally getting around to do something about it. I've increasingly noticed that when scrolling in Safari 5.0.5 it becomes stuttery/jittery using the magic mouse.
I've updated everything (OS, updates etc...) to the latest versions, have plenty of space left on my HD.
Does anyone have suggestions to get it fixed? Smooth scrolling is selected in mouse preferences.
    Kind regards,
    Jack

Same problem here. As well, every few minutes, the mouse doesn't scroll at all until I've scrolled up and down two or three times. Other forums have posts about this problem, too. Things that didn't help:
    • quitting/restarting Safari
    • restarting
    • resetting PRAM
    • turning off smooth scrolling
    The problem occurs independently of:
    • Flash websites
    • complex pages
    • currently loading pages (active, or background tabs)
    • any other wireless activity

  • Magic Mouse - scrolling doesn't work on some web pages

The scroll function on my Magic Mouse isn't working on some web pages. The main ones it struggles with are news sites (e.g. The Telegraph), or things that regularly update (e.g. BBC Sport live commentaries). When this is a problem the page won't scroll at all, even if you enable the scroll bars at the side of the page and try to drag manually. The majority of web pages do work however. Thoughts?

  • Magic Mouse scrolling lacks "rolling feature" for fast finger swipe

I recently purchased a Magic Mouse for my iMac (27" 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Leopard 10.5.8 OS). I've noticed that the scrolling does not have one of the features shown in the System Profile settings for the mouse scrolling. When I move my finger quickly to scroll using a swiping motion (removing my finger from the mouse at the end of the motion), the scrolled content does not continue to roll on for a bit. Instead, it just stops. This is not a serious problem, but I would like to enjoy the full functionality as advertised by Apple. Anyone know what I should try to fix this? Thanks.

    Hi Marilyn:
I dredged this up from my dim memory banks:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3925
You are correct, that article indicates that the momentum feature is only available with OS X 10.6.
If you have not done so, you might want to install this update (you probably already have it):

  • Magic Mouse scroll not working.

Has anyone found a solution to the Magic Mouse, not scrolling all of the time after the latest OSX update (10.9).  Tried forgetting the mouse and then reactivating it.  No luck.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot insafe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Is it possible to disable the magic mouse scrolling in windows 7?

I've partitioned my hard drive with bootcamp to run windows 7 for a handful of games that aren't mac friendly. The problem is that once I installed the drivers to use the magic mouse, the scroll keeps jumping around at inconvenient times while I'm playing which makes it pretty difficult. How can I turn the scrolling off? I like having the scroll on the trackpad, but I only want the left and right click on the mouse.

I use MagicMouse on iMac with Windows 7 running (installed through BootCamp). Got sick of annoying horizontal scrolling. The solution described above has helped me to disable it. Here is what I've done in steps:
    1) go to http://www.autohotkey.com/ and download an app (a script editor).
    2) Install and run the program - please note that it will not open as it runs in the background
    3) Rightclick on the desktop -> choose "New" -> "AutoHotkey Script" (a new script file will be created on the desktop) -> name it as you wish (e.g. "Mouse_HScroll")
    4) Rightclick on the file you've just created and choose "Edit Script" from the menu.
    5) Add these three lines below existing text in the file:
    WheelLeft::return
    WheelRight::return
    #MaxHotkeysPerInterval 5000
    6) Save file
    7) Run "Convert .ahk to .exe" program from the package installed earlier and browse the file you've just created, hit ">Convert<" -> .exe file should be created. Run this file -> the scrolling should be disabled now.
    7) You may wish to move this file to Start/"Autorun" folder, so it would be launched automatically each time you reboot your Mac/PC.
    Hope this helps! Good Luck

  • Magic Mouse (Scrolling and Swiping)

I know this has been asked several times, but I have gone through most of the posts to try and find a solution, and nothing has helped.
I initially lost scroll and swipe about 6 months ago, and ended up downloading MagicDriver (which has now expired and will not be developed any further). That was a solution for the time being. I've killed off the USBdriver file, I've reset everything I could reset, I've even gone so far as to buy a NEW magic mouse, thinking perhaps my "old" one was having issues.
But, I'm still unable to scroll or swipe.
I've tried turning my mouse on and off, and now it won't even connect to the computer... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do at this point.

I have had all the slow and other cursor problems described and was becoming desperate with withdrawal symptoms having had to use a wired standard WIndows mouse.
PROBLEM SOLVED - I noticed horizontal scrolling had improved whereas vertical was still appalling.
CLEANED THE MOUSE LENSES with spectacle cloth and cleaning fluid - cloth dampened.
Everything now BEAUTIFUL! and I am able to do amazing things having set up variousa options with MagicPrefs

  • Magic Mouse: Scrolling/Swiping not working

I just bought a Magic Mouse for my MacPro. I downloaded and installed "WirelessMouseSoftware.dmg"
Got it BT connected, but the multitouch surface doesn't works. I can't scroll or swipe or anything as it should do.
    Any tips for such problem?
    Thanks

Alrighty, it looks like I have figured out the source of the problem. The program is called "USB Overdrive." What I did was went under System Preferences, and did a right-click on the USB Overdrive to remove the item from my computer. Turns out that that is not enough. The main problem is inside Extensions. Click on the Apple at the top of the screen, and go to About This Mac. Then, go to more options, and go under software, and then under Extensions. It should take about 10 seconds to load. Once that is done, scroll down to near the bottom of the list, and if you see one called USBOverdrive then open up a new window in Finder. Click on Macintosh HD, and then go to System, then Library, and then Extensions. Find the one called USBOverdrive.kext and drag it to the trash. You may have to enter the admin password to allow Finder to make changes. Empty the file from the trash and restart the computer, and get rid of the mouse from Bluetooth prefs, and then pair it again. That should solve the problem. By the way if you don't have Snow Leopard (10.6.2) run a system update, and if not, then buy a copy, it's well worth the cost.

  • Magic mouse scrolling function is dead

My magic mouse is about a year and 1/2 old - has always worked perfectly.  Last night the scrolling function just stopped working entirely.  The "right click" function seems to be a bit more sensitive, too. (When clicking where I always have for my "left click" I'm frequently triggering the right click function.)
Tried new batteries, tried re-syncing mouse, looked for updates......help....
Time for a new one?  Is there a possible fix for this?

    Hello:
You could try resetting the PRAM...but that probably will not help.  I have the same "click" problem, but, in my case, I think it is my fat fingers.

  • Magic Mouse scrolling died after last Lion update

Since the last OS lion update, my Magic Mouse stopped scrolling. It just works as a normal mouse, and a bad one.
Moreover, everytime I lift it, or sometimes even randomly, the cursor jumps from place to place on the screen. That's very annoying.
Anyone with the same problem ?

I had the same problem, followed captfred's instuctions.
My macbook air crashed and a grey box popped up asking me to restart.
I did and the scrolling went back to normal. Plus the jumping around of the cursor stopped too.
