Magic mouse sticks/freezes

Anyone else noticed a problem with the Magic Mouse in that it seems to get stuck for a few seconds at time?
It'll work perfectly, then I can't move it left or right (only barely), you can click, it'll move up and down more than left or right but still not much, and then after about 10 seconds it'll work perfectly.
If you pick the mouse up and bang it down very lightly it comes back to life too.
Is it just mine?

There are several of us that have been having similar problems with bluetooth mice on the mac for at least a year now. If you look under jumpy mouse or erratic mouse or selectively slow in the bluetooth forums you will see hundreds of us with similar problems.
We have discovered that bluetooth mice seem to be selectively slow when downloading a large file or copying a large file or if a program is demanding significant resources. This slowness in slow motion looks like a jumpy mouse - no response and then an overly large response.
I have posted a video of the problem on Youtube. You can read additional comments there.

My advice is to contact Apple Care and notify them of the problem. Don't be surprised if they claim not to know about it. This seems to be a common response. In addition, notify Apple by going to Apple.com/feedback and sending them an email. Eventually, Apple will figure out the source of this problem.
Finally, the problems don't exist in Bootcamp - Bluetooth mice are perfectly smooth in Windows. The problem exists in OSX - Amazing!

  • Magic mouse sticks as it tracks

My Magic Mouse "sticks" as it tracks. As I roll from left to right, it will stop in the middle of the screen and will only move up and down in the same place.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, there is dust in there!±

  • Magic Mouse Sticks Constantly

This problem is widespread and Apple is not addressing the issue anywhere I can see. I paid a lot of money to buy four Magic Mice in recent times and every single one of these displays this same issue; while they have always had “sticking” issues, a new wrinkle has been introduced, seemingly with the recent 10.8.4 updates to Mountain Lion, or perhaps with some other recent system update: The mouse cursor sticks in one spot and refuses to budge, it will only click and right-click in one place. It will randomly stop/start working constantly. I don’t know if it’s a Bluetooth connectivity option or something else.
Can someone please explain? I’ve deleted mouse preferences, Bluetooth preferences, reset the PRAM, tried another boot disk (with a slightly older operating system). The only solution that consistently works is using another mouse (non-Bluetooth) entirely.
Help! I truly use the advanced gestures in my daily life and it is a serious productivity issue to not have these features that I paid for!
    Mahalo.

I'm having the same issue here and I think it's related to my wireless network. The lagging occurs only when the following are in place:
A- Using the Airport Express in the Kitchen
B- Using the Apple TV 2 in the living room (previously, on my 1st apple TV, synching was doing the same thing)
C- Doing a back-up on my Time capsule
D- Anything related to home sharing makes the MM lag
One weird thing is that I'm also having the magic track pad and it's not as nearly as bad and it makes me wonder if the issue is the mouse bluetooth connection.
One thing I've heard that may actually change that is to switch your network to 5Ghz band. My problem is that my wife use and old Macbook and my old iPhone 3 which doesn't work on a 5Ghz band.
Someone else suggested the following but it didn't worked for me:
1- hold down Shift-Control-Option, and press the power button ONCE. (don't start the computer, just quick press the power button).
2- let go of keypresses and start computer again.
if anyone has a solution to make my MM stop lagging, I would appreciate

  • Magic Mouse (OEM) freezes, requiring restart

The heading says it all, except that this occurs on waking from sleep. Power button shutdown, startup fixes. A related question: what keyboard commands provide menu access when the mouse is frozen?

I'd try a PRAM Reset for this problem. Hold down CMD-Option-P-R keys together at startup, listen for 2 more chimes, total three, let the keys go and it will finish booting.

  • Magic Mouse Freezing

My Magic Mouse regulary freezes and stays down for about 5 minutes. Is there a simple fix?

So your bluetooth is frozen? Hmmm.
You just turn the mouse off & on again & mash the button 10times /sec until it kicks in again.

  • Why is the mouse 'sticking' and it switches between windows?

    Hello,
So this morning my mac has had a few issues, all within about a minute of each other:
-mouse 'sticking', not totally frozen but isn't moving smoothly
    - will switch between open windows and even just fly over to the dashboard randomly
    -open random windows
for ex. the little window that would open if I right clicked on something, (except I was just typing) and it's happened multiple times today, and never before.
    * I had Pages '09 and Safari open.
    * I've restarted my computer and only launched Safari  and the problem seems to have gone away, making me think there might be a corrupted file or something in Pages.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Brandon

The mouse (at least the Magic Mouse) sticking and flying are well known problems for which there seems to be no cure in sight. Just grit your teeth and try to think something complimentary about Apple.

  • Mouse sticking

After installing Lion I am having trouble with my mouse sticking/freezing for a delayed period of a 5 seconds before responding...anyone else? How do I fix this? As a Graphic Designer this is making me crazy.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal.
As Guest, launch some applications and test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created as Guest will be deleted automatically when you log out.

  • Can't swipe back on websites any more..the page just freezes and i have to close it...this happens with both the trackpad and magic mouse. Also can't scroll down in iCal...any advice please?

While browsing online tonight my Wi-Fi failed and then after restarting I noticed that I can no longer swipe "back" on websites...when I swipe back to go to a previous page the browser just freezes – can’t click anything or navigate to another site – I have to close the browser and reopen it.
This happens in both Safari and Google Chrome with both Trackpad and Magic Mouse.
Also noticed that I can no longer scroll down in iCal… All the other gestures seem to be responding normally.
Anyone have advice as to how I can fix this?

Restart your computer and try again.
    Double check your AppleMenu()>System Preferences>Trackpad
    for all custom settings here.

  • Magic Mouse three finger freeze

I have a Magic Mouse that was working fine along with Magic Prefs.  Suddenly I  ran into freezing whenever I thought the mouse with three fingers.  I have removed all traces of MagicPrefs to no avail.  A quick search here showed some others with the same issue but I didn't find any clear answer.  Any thoughts as to where to look?
    Chris

Typo..."touch the mouse with three fingers"

  • Swipe between pages feature is freezing with magic mouse and magic trackpad in Mavericks

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and  on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?
    Thanks for your help
    Chris

Maybe this will help. You can look for other ideas in the 'More Like This' box to the right.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Macbook Pro keyboard and track pad freezes after a day or two of using bluetooth Magic Mouse

The first time this happened I thought my 3 y/old 17" Macbook Pro had died. The mouse cursor had frozen to the top left of the screen and the keyboard was also frozen and no matter what I did it didnt unfreeze. Even restarting. I searched extensively online and the only solution offered was to re install the system software.
The next day I took it into work, opened it ip there and the cursor and keyboard was working again.
This led me to believe there was a conflict with my recently purchased Magic Mouse and/or bluetooth.  Even though I had been using the mouse for well over 3 weeks with no problem.
I resumed using the Magic Mouse with the computer for another week and then the keyboard/trackpad froze again. The Magic Mouse remained active.  This time, I took the batteries out of the mouse and took the computer downstairs. After a couple of hours everything is working fine again.
Has anyone had this experience and knows how to fix? Or am I resigned to using a wired mouse?

I have never encountered anything similar. However, try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

  • Magic Mouse freeze

My Magic mouse stopped working suddenly. Batteries 100%.  Computer says it is connected. Any ideas?

Same problem here.  New batteries, mouse battery level at 100% and it is paired with computer according to the System Preference. The cursor does not move but left and right clicking and scrolling work.  I have not found any help anywhere for this! No light under the mouse either.... It is just above a year old and worked fine until today.
    Any help welcome!
