Magic mouse sudden connection loss

My magic mouse loses connection suddenly. I have tried even changing batteries but the problem is not resolved. Please help

Look at the threads in More Like This at the right.
One general theory is that different makes of batteries have slightly different length positive terminals and loose connection.  Some find adding a small shim of aluminum foil to keep the batteries from moving works.  Others just a piece of paper to push down and serve the same purpose.
Others sometimes have problems with interferance.

  • Magic Mouse drops connection with two blinks; unable to reconnect

My magic mouse drops connection frequently. It may drop connection at any time with no reason and goes off into two blinks. Then it's unable to be reconnected. I've tried many things, including turning the mouse off and on, turning Bluetooth off and on, unpairing the mouse and try to repair (unable to discover at this moment), but nothing works. After waiting for a long time it may get connected suddenly.
I believe it is the computer's issue rather than the mouse. I have two Macs (MacBook Pro and iMac) and two Magic Mice, but the issue only happen to my MacBook Pro with either of the two mice.
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you!

I really cannot see why those problems relate to only one of your machines though you don't say if you have reset the SMC on the MacBook Pro.  See ...
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Nor do you say if you have given the batteries a thorough check.  While this should not affect only one machine, Try removing them, clean the inside of the compartment and the battery terminals themselves.  If it is reasonably possible, replace the old batteries with new ones.

  • Magic mouse wont connect boot camp 4.0

I have just installed a fresh copy of OS X Lion with Boot Camp 4.0 on a new iMac.  I have been unable to get the magic mouse to connect via bluetooth.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver with the same result.  I can see it when I add devices but connection never completes.
    Any advice?

I figured this one out. =)
right click the mouse in the add menu... then click properties. check the box in the menu that appears. click apply. connection should complete there-after.

Why has my magic mouse suddenly stopped working? I'm using 10.6.8

We can't know. You have not told us what exactly the problem is. If there are any warnings, you need to provide them along with other info like the crash logs. If not you have to explain the situation in more detail. Just saying that it doesn't work anymore is not particularly useful.

  • My magic mouse loses connection during sleep

My Magic mouse loses connection during sleep mode. I also get error message my external usb storage drive was disconnected improperly. I have to unplug and plug in drive generally, sometimes it is still present. For the mouse I generally turn it off and on and allow it to be found again.

This is a late 2009 imac.

    What's wrong?

There's already a thread on this with almost the same title:
    Magic Mouse Loses Connection
One idea (discussed in that thread) is that not all batteries are created equal in that the positive terminal varies in size among different brands and "flatter" ones are not making contact all the time.  One solution was to add a little ball of aluminum foil between the negative size (I assume) to take up the "slack".

My magic mouse dropped connection and now won't pair with the mac. When I search for it, it finds the mouse but just won't connect. Any ideas?

  • My magic mouse loose connection

hi, my magic mouse loose connection every time i lift it up!
i have a late 13 imac with all upgrades on.
also new batteries on it ,not rechargeable.
    any idea?

Sounds to me they are loose inside the compartment.   There are two possible causes.   A badly made mouse (very unlikely) or inferior quality batteries.   We generally find Apple, Energiser or Eneloop are the recommended ones; others, especially minor brands, can be that tiny bit too short and leave them liable to movement.

  • Magic Mouse loosing Connection

My magic mouse looses connection with my iMac every few minuites to every few hours.  I have tried replacing the bateries several time.  The only way to make it reconnect is to put the computer to sleep and wake it back up a few times.  What can I do to stop this?

Greetings,  I had the same problem after the original batteries "died". New batteries 100% charged  after 1-2 min mouse lost connection. Tried Setup of bluetooth mouse many times + new batteries - same result.
Tried removal of com.apple.Bluetooth.plist - no difference.
On all my batteries there are a date/manufacturing code stamped in ink under the negative pole . I removed the ink - scraped away with a screwdriver and installed the batteries again. The Magic Mouse is now connected all the time.  This challenge took 3 hrs to solve - hope it will save someone some frustration.
    cheers t

  • Magic mouse suddenly eating batteries

I've had my iMac and magic mouse setup for a few years and the battery life on the mouse has always been decent (I replace the rechargeables every few weeks). Suddenly in the last few days though, the mouse has started eating a set of batteries every 2 days. Any ideas why this might be happening? I haven't changed anything re: my setup, OS, etc.

Rather than the mouse, it's more likely the batteries are exhausted.  Rechargeable batteries are not exactly consistent in themselves or compared with other, similar batteries.   Here are some notes I made about batteries which may help.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems. Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best.
Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.   I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this. Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.   The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.   Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced.
Note.  Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.   Note.   Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ...
    Turn off the device.
    Remove the batteries,
Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves.
    Replace or renew both batteries.
Turn on the device.   You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired.
Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

  • Magic mouse losing connection

    Hello
I have a problem with occasional loss of connection with my magic mouse. having read the threads already posted on this subject, I have tried to set up the mouse as a favourite within system preferences/bluetooth. however, i can't see how to set it as a favourite....i have clicked on the little gear sign and selected 'more info', which is then displayed, but i cannot change 'favourite...no' to yes.
i'm sure it's something simple i'm missing, but i just can't see how to change it!
    cheers
    emma

    Hello Emma:
Making a BT device a favorite (or favourite ) is one of my standard suggestions for an occasional loss of connectivity.
Try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist - found in the Macintosh HD), restart, and then make the device a favorite (add to favorite option).

  • Magic Mouse not connecting to MBP after Sleep or Re-start

This has been an on going problem for me since I upgraded to OSX 10.8 on my MBP.  Since the upgrade my Magic Mouse will no longer connect to my MBP after it has gone to sleep, restarted or shut down.  The only way I have been able to get a connection is to Click on the BT icon goto the mouse>Open  Preferances.  At this point the computer is 'Waiting for a Bluetooth mouse to be discovered' and it will keep searching forever.  Clicking on the mouse button or moving the mouse around does not do anything even though the green light on the bottom of the mouse indicates it is on & attempting communication.  I have to turn the mouse off for 3-5 seconds and then turn the mouse back on.  This is the only way for the computer to see the mouse, I then click connect the mouse connects and all is good until the computer sleeps, gets restarted or shut down.
I have tried resetting the PRAM & SMC.  I have also deleted the mouse from bluetooth preferances and re-paired it with the computer several times.  I even tried deleting the PList and re-pairing but nothing yet has worked!
Open to any and all suggests! PLEASE help!

    Hi,
I have a mid 2014 15 inch MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing now the same issue. I have an iPad and an iMac and the issue is only with the MacBook Pro.
I went to System Preferences > Network > Wi - Fi and selected 'Ask to join new networks'. It didn't remove completely the issue (is still not finding the network) but at least I don't have to turn the wifi on and off all the time because after a while is able to connect.

  • My Magic Mouse Loses Connection Every Single Minor Tap

My Magic Mouse tends to lose its connection whenever I give it a tap on the table. I mean, it's normal right, when you lift the mouse a little bit and tap it to the surface to give the pointer a little more distance like browsing the web or playing a computer game. My Magic Mouse seems to lose its connection everytime it gets a minor tap on the table and no, I don't slam it hard.
It's not a battery problem since I change them frequently so I'm guessing it's either the hardware problem or the Bluetooth problem. Any idea what's causing this?

Actually I believe it is a battery problem.  Specifically, not all batteries are created equally and vary from brand to brand so with the tolerances as tight as they apparently are in (or are not) in the MM the positive terminal does not always make contact with the MM terminal.
Based on other posts in these forums the positive terminal varies slightly among brands.  Some are higher than others.  It's a minor amount but it appears to be enough.
I've seen this with my neighbor's MM.  Brand new batteries (forget the brand at the moment) yet I could shake the MM and have it make and break contact.  On the other hand I don't have the problem with my Sayno Eneloop rechargeables.
You might try inserting a small piece of paper or aluminum foil to take up the gap.
Another possibility is that the contacts are corroded so try to clean them a little.

  • Magic Mouse NOT CONNECTING in Lion

My Magic Mouse has had a constant issue connecting to the MacBook Pro ever since upgrading to Lion.  It seems there is an obvious issue between Lion and Bluetooth.  I keep waiting for Apple to release an update for Lion, hoping they'll fix it.
Are you having this problem?  If so, please reply below and let's get noticed.
What I do to fix it:
All I end up having to do is go to the Bluetooth icon (on the top right of the screen), go to Apple Magic Mouse, Open Mouse Preferences, and just wait without need to click anthing else.  It takes a few seconds and then it'll connect.  But I have to do this everytime I wake my MacBook Pro from sleep.  It does fine connecting after a re-start or shut down but never from sleep.
    What about you?
    BUBBABAIRD

I have a similar problem in Lion but not Snow Leopard. At start up, sometimes both my Bluetooh (BT) Mouse and BT Keyboard connect just fine. Other times, one or the other does not connect at start up, but never both. With the keyboard, after the window comes up saying a keyboard is not connected, I turn the keyboard off then on and it will then connect. More times than that, it is the mouse that does not connect. I have a wired mouse that I use to connect it from the BT menu and everything is fine until I shut down and then restart (usually the next day). I don't think it is the PRAM because sometimes it works fine so it must be retained in the memory and I don't want to reset it if I don't have to and loose other settings. Same with resetting SMC, I prefer not to reset it. I have a second bootable hard drive with Snow Leaopard on it, and when I switch to that, it never has a problem. It seems to me to be a quirk in Lion. Just looking to see if others have this same type of problem.
