Magic Mouse turn on/off reconnect

Hey,
When I turn my magic mouse off at the end of the day, the following day when I turn it back on, my computer doesn't recognize it. I have to plug back in my mighty mouse and click on bluetooth, then apple wireless mouse and connect.
Is there a way for it to automatically recognize it and connect?
Thank you,
Marcus

This is what I do when I've just changed the magic mouse batteries and need to reconnect:
1. command+spacebar (this opens spotlight)
2. type in "system preferences" (once you type in "sys..." it should be one of the first options)
3. if necessary, navigate down to system prefs using the arrow keys
4. once system prefs is highlighted, press return
5. when system prefs opens, there should be a blinking cursor in the search bar on the top right ready for input
6. type in "mouse" and press return
7. turn on the magic mouse
8. if the bluetooth adapter AND mouse are working correctly it will say "Found: 'Apple Wireless Mouse'"
9. press return to continue
10. wait a few seconds and the mouse should be connected
I'm assuming this is what you're asking for if you're trying to "connect manually."
It is possible to do a lot on a Mac with just the keyboard. Anytime you're without a mouse it's possible to access almost all your applications/folders/files via Spotlight using "command+spacebar" and navigate your way around your Mac from there. However, this will only work if your Spotlight is on and its settings are enabled to access system prefs (and applications if you wanna open other stuff with it). Spotlight is set to access system prefs (and applications) by default, so unless you've changed this setting you should be fine.
PS - Some of the extreme specifics in these steps might be a little off, as I am typing all of this from memory (e.g. it might say "connect" instead of "continue" in the mouse pane of sys prefs when trying to connect... other than this, I'm sure it's spot on).
Hope all this answers your question.

  • Restart -- Magic Mouse does not auto-reconnect

After I updated OS from 10.6.4 to 10.6.5 with the combo updater, upon restart my Magic Mouse no longer auto-reconnect via Bluetooth. I even applied the combo updater for the second time. But, every time I restart my Mac, I have to use a USB mouse to reconnect the Magic Mouse back to the Mac.
How can I bring the auto-reconnect back? This is driving me crazy.

I believe that I have solved the issue with the following procedure.
[0] Let's suppose that, after a restart, the Magic Mouse did not auto-connect.
[1] Use a USB mouse to open *System Preferences > Bluetooth*.
[2] In the left-side window, select the Magic Mouse.
[3] At the bottom of this left-side window, pull down the menu and select *Update Device Services*.
It may take a moment or two for the update to occur.
[4] In the left-side window, the Magic Mouse should now appear as Connected.
[5] Restart the Mac and see if the Magic Mouse auto-connects now.

  • My magic mouse turn color on the inside? It was 2 years old magic mouse, and today I found that it looked like a boiled egg, has yellowish spot on the middle. What to do?

Hai, I had been using my magic mouse almost two years now. I may not the cleanest user, i admit. But today, i found that my magic mouse looked like a boiled egg, it was yellowish spot on the inside, I don't know why, it works fine. But i'm just worry there had been some some electricity problem on the inside.
    Thank you.

I had this happen as well. after I replaced the batteries it went to acting strangely. Same thing on glossy surfaces only.
This happened once before, and I thought it was broken, and just like pepi70 I think I remember an accidental drop fixed it before, wondering if I should drop it again, I have already tried banging it lightly with my hand to no avail.
Maybe more people have had this problem but didn't think to try it on glossy surfaces. Very strange it only works on glossy...
    Anyone find a good solution?

  • Magic Mouse takes iMac off sleep

Not sure where this goes, there's no section or might mouse on the forums.
Every time I turn my computer to sleep it almost always instantly comes back off sleep again to the password screen. This only happens when I have mighty mouse installed, and it doesn't matter if I leave the mouse completely still or not, 9 times out of 10 it will go out of sleep mode as soon as it is asleep.
I'm also wondering if the laser can damage your eyes since the only way I can get it to stay asleep is to press sleep in the apple menu and then quickly turn off the mouse, which means turning it around and switching it off, which means I have to look towards the laser.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Welcome tgomm0v,
You wrote: "I'm also wondering if the laser can damage your eyes since the only way I can get it to stay asleep is to press sleep in the apple menu and then quickly turn off the mouse, which means turning it around and switching it off, which means I have to look towards the laser."
There is virtually no danger to eyesight when "looking toward" the tracking lasers in laser mice. While it's not a good idea to look directly into even the very weak laser used in laser mice, doing so would produce no more than a normal avoidance reaction (turning head away). Canadian and US Military vehicles used for crowd control now have what are called "dazzlers" - lasers which are far more powerful than those in laser mice. The dazzler-type laser can temporarily blind a person at normal operating ranges but only in the sense that an ordinary headlight can "blind" a person if it's shined directly in their eyes when the eyes are adapted to darkness. (Within 36 meters - about 116 feet - there is a hazard to eyesight from the military dazzler laser.)
Simple logic and use of Google will show that manufacturers would never put a dangerous laser in a computer mouse and sold to millions of unsuspecting victims.
OTH: if you are experiencing over-sensitivity to light, this may be reason to consult a physician or eye specialist.

  • Right click on Magic Mouse not working

    Hi
I am having this right click problem with my magic mouse.  The right click function just suddenly stopped working two days ago.
I have checked the Mouse>Preference> Secondary click is enabled to "Right"
However, when I changed the secondary click to "Left", the "right click" function works perfectly fine w/ the left click, but when I change it back to "Right" nothing happens.  I even tried unchecking the secondary click function (someone said that will work in another support site) but that doesn't help either.
I have tried removing batteries from my mouse, turning it off, turning bluetooth off, restarting the laptop...
Very confused right now.  Please help!!

The post is a month old now, but I did stumble upon it after I suddenly lost my "Magic Mouse" right click functionality.  Just as posted my; Mouse>Preference> Secondary click was enabled to "Right", though it would not work...
I tried everything including; restart iMac, enable and disable "Secondary Click", disconnecting the Mouse bluetooth and reconnecting it using my Magic Trackpad, etc.... until this ended up being my solution:
I went into System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and disabled "Secondary click".  Then restarted the system.  Then returned to System Preferences, Mouse>Preference> and re-enabled Secondary Click.  That worked and was my solution and has been working fine since yesterday.
I hope this helps anyone who encounters the same as we have.

  • Apple Magic Mouse best usage

    Hi guys!...
My wife bought me an Apple Magic Mouse and i have a few questions.
I have a Mac Mini under 10.6.4 by the way
I normally left downloading some stuff on my Mac all night long. Is it best to leave the Magic Mouse on or off?... If i turn it off... How can i connect again without reconnecting a USB mouse?... If i turn the mouse off without disconnecting it from the bluetooth icon, is there a risk on hardware damage?
    Thanks so much!!!

The mouse should turn off automatically. You can just press the power button and hold it until a message appears on the Mac saying "Connection Lost" or "Trackpad Off". It does not damage the hardware.
    Hope that helps.

  • Magic Mouse Disconnection

I have replaced the batteries several times, and my Magic Mouse keeps disconnecting and reconnecting itself to my laptop via Bluetooth. Sometimes it doesn't even reconnect at all. The little green light on the bottom of the mouse likes to blink twice when the mouse isn't working properly. How do I go about fixing this? Thank you!

Eneloop and Apple branded batteries will also fit.   For future battery troubles these notes I made may help.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.   Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best.
Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.   I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this.    Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.   The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.   Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced.
Note.  Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.   Note.   Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ...
    Turn off the device.
    Remove the batteries,
Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves.
    Replace or renew both batteries.
Turn on the device.   You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired.
Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

  • Magic mouse switching problem

I have a magic mouse about twelve months old. It periodically switches off. Problem: when switched on the light comes on for about 3 secs then it starts 2 flashes every sec. Have tried new batts, shaking, clicking, tapping and all usual things but no go. It seems softwarde related but what. any suggestions please?

    Hello:
If the mouse turns itself off it is probably faulty.  If it is still inside the one year warranty, get in touch with Apple at once.

  • Magic mouse erratic mayhem!

My magic mouse is posssesed! it seems to be playing back a sped up record of mouse moves or has a virus. I searched and tried: restart, Pram reset, remove the com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse then restart.  Tried a USB mouse same erratic result!. replaced batteries.
Restart with all USB unplugged and magic mouse turned off and bluetooth off,  and tried the USB cord mouse. Seems to be working on USB cord mouse, retried the bluetooth magic mouse and get same erratic result, no control at all, but USB cable mouse works fine.
Cannot restore the magic mouse so I have it off and using a corded mouse.
    27" iMac mid 2011 2.7ghz intelcorei5 12Gb ram.
    Thank you for your help

Sounds like a problem with the Magic Mouse. You'll need to contact Apple about that. If it's within the warranty period and the mouse doesn't have any evidence of abuse, they should replace it for you.

  • Connection to Magic Mouse lost on Restart

Every time I do a Restart on my G5 iMac I lose the Bluetooth connection to the Magic Mouse. Sometimes it reconnects quickly, but other times it doesn't. I've had to power the iMac completely off a few times to get it to reconnect. Once it's reconnected I never have any problems until the next Restart. Any ideas?

I would add the Magic Mouse to bluetooth favorites. I use Snow Leopard but I think the process is the same for Leopard.
Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > Highlight the Mouse on the left > click the gear icon below the list > check "show more information" if not already checked. > return to the gear icon and select "add to favorites".
That should help with a speedy reconnect.

  • Magic Mouse not working with Lion

My Magic Mouse does not scroll with Lion. Preferences are set up correctly. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I've been using my Magic Mouse on and off this year, but it worked perfectly fine when I upgraded to 10.7.0. I haven't used the MM since my desk finally arrived today and in 10.7.2 vertical scrolling of the MM just won't work. It's so frustrating because of those iOS-like scrolling bars that vanish. It's SO HARD to find them to scroll and then my wrists are in an awkward position just forcing my mouse to scrolling vertically (by clicking, no gesture).
I have however noticed that when I put my MBA Rev A to sleep and wake it again, that vertical scrolling on my MM will work again for about 10 seconds. My batteries are at 100%, so it can't be that.
This absolutely *****! Apple's attention to detail on these small things have slipped. I even had an issue with iPhoto 11 the other day when I noticed that you literally have to jump through hoops to manually force face detection on photos that the application can't automatically detect on . That feature used to be so intuitive in iPhoto '09. Too many balls in the air, Apple?

  • HT1153 I turned my macbook off maanually last night.  Magic mouse was working fine.  When I turned ir back on the mouse did not work.  I do not have the option of Bluetooth in my system preferences.  I have no  idea how to resolve this problem.

I turned my macbook off manually last night.  Magic mouse was working fine.  When I turned it back on it wasn't working.  I have no option in system preferences for Bluetooth.  I have no clue how to get it working again.  The batteries in the mouse are working fine.

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • New Magic Mouse - how to turn off horiz scroll ?

love this new Magic Mouse esp with FCP where horiz scroll from edit to edit is ultra cool.
However, most of the time I will want to turn horizontal scrolling off. This is easy to do with other Apple mice and even other manuf brands.
So - how to do this with the whiz bang boom Magic Mouse ???
turning off the checkbox "Two Fingers - Swipe Left/Right to Navigate" doesnt fix this.
    Am I missing something ?

looks like this was answered already (I havent yet tried it but this looks pretty solid)
    To turn horizontal scrolling off:
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseHorizontalScroll -bool NO
    To turn horizontal scrolling on:
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseHorizontalScroll -bool YES
    if this helps anybody.....

  • Can't turn off swiping with Magic mouse

I have the magic mouse with a brand new 27 inch iMac, running OS 10.6.2. The magic mouse is almost unusable in any spreadsheet because the sheet will suddenly shift left and right because of my tendency to have two fingers on the mouse. This is true in Excel as well as Google's online spreadsheets. So I decided to turn off two finger swiping, but it still does it! Do I need to revert to a regular mouse or is there an easy fix?

I am experiencing a somewhat similar problem with the Magic Mouse: I cannot disable the lateral scroll feature. This is terribly frustrating whenever coming across a page that extends beyond the width of the screen: It is virtually impossible to scroll vertically without some concomitant lateral scrolling!
I've spoken with Apple Care about this... and the techs there were "surprised" that lateral scrolling could not be disabled! Their advice: wait until some 3rd party utility comes along to solve the problem!

  • Where is in OS X Lion the option to turn on or off  the Magic Mouse scroll.

I have not found anymore on OS X Lion the option to turn on or off  the vertical scroll of Magic Mouse. The problem is That I use Corel Draw with Parallels, and Corel Draw does not work with the scroll on, he gets mad. I always turn off the scroll option of Magic Mouse in OS X Leopaed before entering Windows XP. Now I had to put a conventional mouse and stop using the Magic Mouse because I dont find this option in the settings of the mouse preferences.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Many Thanks
