Magic Mouse User Feedback/Suggestion Box

The Magic Mouse has great esthetic appeal, the touch to scroll is employed well, the swipes will take some getting used to as it is a natural movement (at least to me). The biggest shortfall I see is the inability to assign the functions, as well as the loss of the third and fourth buttons (scroll button click, and squeeze button)
The scroll button would be easy to employ as a virtual button with a two fingered click. Clearly the device can sense the difference between one and two fingers and the motion of clicking with two fingers seems incredibly intuitive to me.
One could also conceive of having two fingered scrolling mean something different than one fingered scrolling, think Application switching, Spaces, screen zoom.
The problem with the swipe motion is you have to stop the mouse from moving side to side as you hold it, making the motion somewhat unnatural. Interestingly though pinching/spreading on the mouse would work very well, since the opposite movement of each finger keeps the mouse still and does not require you to hold the sides. So pinch/expand zooming would be a natural one too.
Two finger Rotate seems hard since again the issue of the mouse moving comes up
Apple, throw in a two finger click assignable to expose, spaces, or user choice please. Pinch Zoom too please

In addition to all those I'd really love two finger slide up gesture to go up a folder level, or customizable to show topsites in Safari maybe. Slide down gesture to open a folder or file.
There are a lot of cool gestures. If Apple could create a 'watch me' method to create our one it would defeat the need for 3rd party software which could complicate the proper navigation functions. Even if most were disabled by default it gives advanced users a chance to take advantage of it's multitouch surface, which currently barely scratches the surface.

  • SQLDeveloper...Feedback/Suggestions box...

    Hi all,
Is there a feedback and/or suggestion box for this tool? This is a really nice tool, but there are some frustrating features that could be modified to make it really nice:
    - When you refresh a connection, why is the SQL Editor window flushed?
    - I'm probably missing something here, but under the Connections View, there should be a way to group connections under folders (or something). I have a lot of connections to manage and having one long string of connections can get difficult.
Anyway, it would be nice to submit suggestions for the next release...keep up the great work...
    thx,
    adym

Hopefully this thread is as good a place as any for general suggestions.
On Mac OS X, SQL Developer stores preferences such as connection definitions deep within the SQLDeveloper.app application bundle. Why doesn't it use Java's Preferences API, which would behave properly in Mac OS X (storing preferences in the user's Library/Preferences folder)? (Or manually manage it, but use a folder within the user's Library/Preferences?)
The usual method to install/uninstall apps on a Mac is to drag the app into a destination folder or to the trash, respectively. When I installed a new version of SQL Developer, replacing the old one, to my surprise all of my connections had disappeared. Needless to say, this is not the expected behavior. ;-) And I still do not know how to avoid it next time I update SQL Developer.
One other lower-priority request would be to get the menu up to the menu bar instead of in the application window. Isn't this as simple as setting the apple.laf.useScreenMenuBar system property?
    Thanks for a terrific application!
    Regards,
    Mark

  • Magic Mouse Audio Feedback

I was trying the magic mouse in my local Apple Store and when I was home again I was thinking about if I had heard something while scrolling or not. I couldn't really say it, because I did not really pay special attention to it.
Many of you know that the Mighty Mouse has a piezo speaker inside, so that the scrolling gives an accoustic feedback to the user (look here: http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2005/08/dissect.ars). I think this is really comfortable and really native for the interaction between the user and the device, especially when you work a lot with it.
So has the magic mouse something like this or is it completely quiet while scrolling, swiping and so on?
If not: Does Apple plan to make an Update so that it supports this feature?
I'm really thinking about buying it, but if it has no accoustic feedback I will definitely buy the Mighty Mouse again...

    Hello again:
    You were quite clear.
ok, maybe it was written a little bit unclear: is there a software update, so that you can hear the scroll sound? i could'nt find anything…
As I indicated, nothing like that exists - to my knowledge.
I suspect that the link below would be the best way to provide feedback to Apple:

  • Make magic mouse default to dialog box

Is there a way to force magic mouse to automatically place itself over the default hot button when I open a dialog box? I remember being able to do that in windows years ago.. Scirpt? Setting? Tweak?  Anything... would sure save time and motion.
    Thanks!

    This is what I want:

  • What's missing? Magic mouse user definable gestures?

So with the magic mouse why can't they simply allow the user to record the gesture and map that to the action?

Well I downloaded the leopard wireless mouse software update --- again. this time the preferences for the keyboard and mouse are separate. opened the mouse pref. and clicked to set up blue tooth mouse. BUT the next window states "no mouse" found! clicked continue searching, Then "found apple wireless mouse" then continue, "no mouse found" and "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful" . clicked continue and the circle starts again. put in new batteries and switched mouse on/off etc.
The blue tooth pref panel shows the mouse is connected and paired. But now it's worse because before I could control the cursor and left/right click, now it does nothing. The computer only works with the wired mouse. What Crap!! not at all "Mac Like"

  • I HATE THE MAGIC MOUSE! Any suggestions for a solid alternative for graphics use?

I have the 27" Intel Based Mac and LOVE the machine...brilliant, beautiful, fast! I also LOVE the wireless keyboard...light, responsive, awesome! But I HATE the Magic Mouse...hate hate hate! I work with Adobe programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Mastersuite CS5) and the mouse control and scroll are all over the place. I need precision control. I need the mouse to stay where I want it to and scroll when I ask it and not scroll when I need to be zoomed in at 6400%.
Now, There HAS to be a good, solid user controlled wireless mouse that works well with the mac! Please HELP!!
Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

What is the problem with just using a good old fashioned WIRED mouse?  When we spec computers for purchase for use by our graphic design, animation and digital photo student lab systems, we always go with a wired mouse..  Better control and more reliable operation are the reasons.  The fact that they are less likely to "wander off" is another big plus for us.
We also go with wired, with numeric keypad, keyboards so we do not have to worry about batteries going down on either mouse or keyboard./  Yep, it is a step backward in technology but reliablity and ease of use trumps "bleeding edge" technology in this case.
If you want you can also have the Magic Mouse on the system but either shut off or stuck up in some corner of the desk where you won't hit it by accident.  That way if you do decide you need the "touch pad" features, they are still available.

  • Types of batteries compatible with Magic Mouse

    Hi There,
Recently I bought a magic mouse, and till now it has been amazing. But as all users, I too face serious battery drain issue with magic mouse, but I think its worth its usage .
So I thought to switch to couple of rechargeable batteries for my magic mouse after reading some threads here. But now I have got a doubt. I read the magic mouse user guide and it says :
+You can use alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable AA batteries in your mouse.+
So My doubt is that whether I can use rechargeable Nickel Cadmium(Ni-Cd) batteries or not? Also what all kind of batteries are compatible with magic mouse?

    Hi zulficarr
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have Nickel Cadmium(Ni-Cd) batteries they will work just fine, however if you shopping for rechargeable's the NiMH batteries are better and last longer.

Also note that the Apple Store sells a Battery Charger with 6 NiMH batteries.

  • Best mouse  pad for magic mouse ?

I used a thick sponge-ish non slip mouse pad with a cloth-like covering for my MS mouse on my pc. Now with the imac and magic mouse, this pad seems not quite right. The tracking is a little strange acting. Would a more plastic coated mouse pad surface be better with the magic mouse? Or suggestions?

i use wowpad for all the mice i use, i works great with all of them. there are no issues with mouse jumping and save battery life too.

  • MBP, Magic Mouse, and desk pads

I have a large steel desk at work, and aside from being a big uncomfortable, it's also tough to use a Magic Mouse on: lots of scraping sounds and even a scratch or two on the desk now and then. I was going to pick up a simple, small mouse pad, until I realized I could also use something to keep the bottom of my MacBook Pro from being scratched too.
I've found a few products, such as the XTRAC PADS Ripper XXL Mouse Pad:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826991001
I wonder whether any other Magic Mouse users are familiar with larger pads like this and can relay their experience?

So, the Ripper XXL pad is huge, and pretty much what you'd expect: a big ol' mouse pad. It does the job, though I wish the surface were quieter and actually a bit less mouse-pad-like, in that it's a bit fuzzy (like a mouse pad) and the Magic Mouse does make some scraping noise as it glides across. So there's probably something better out there; I just don't know what that something is. Meanwhile, the Ripper XXL pad is fine.

  • My magic mouse behaves erratically with intermittent problems - slows down, right click doesn't work, disconnects for a few seconds then reconnects. Anyone suggest what I could do to fix this?

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Magic mouse - right click doesn't work in certain user accounts

    Hi,
I have configured my magic mouse to enable right click in my account without issue, however, in my wife and daughter's accounts, i am unable to set it up. When i click to enable right click in mice settings, I am able to tick the box to enable right click, but as soon as I close the settings application, and then reopen, the option to enable right click is no longer selected.
    All accounts have admin privileges.
Any suggestions appreciated as right clicking is helpful.

  • Any Suggestions for reducing battery useage on the Magic Mouse?

Hello. I find that I seem to be changing batteries frequently on my wireless Apple Magic Mouse. Are there any suggestions to help with this, ie: would it help to shut the mouse off overnight or would the savings be minimal?
The Apple wireless keyboard is not a big user of battery power.
    Thanks for any tips.

Thanks den.thed. That discussion was LONG one! It did however cover a lot of areas and there did seem to be valid links indicating that Apple indicated the batteries would last up to 4 months. Someone indicated that it doesnt do any good to turn the mouse or keyboard off as they go into some type of auto sleep if not in use. I may try rechargeable batteries Nimh after these present alkalines run out. I have used Sanyo Eneloop in my camera after recommendations on a camera site and have found them extremely long lasting in the camera so that may also be the case in the mouse. They are only 2000 maH but are real performers.
The mouse problem isnt really a big one and I can live with it, but thought if I was doing something wrong, I could rectify it. Thanks for the links.

  • Apple Needs to Provide Magic Mouse support for Tiger Users

While it's always a good thing to upgrade software to take advantage of new hardware and features, some of us longstanding Mac Users are still happy with our non-Intel hardware (have owned Macs from the Mac 512K to my current PowerPC Dual Core G5). How hard can it be to provide a software update for Tiger that allows full functionality for the new BlueTooth Mouse. My understanding is that while I could upgrade the OS to Leopard, it is not recommended for PowerPCs for performance and other issues. Not asking for cross compatibility to OS 1, but there are a lot of us out here running the PowerPC G5s at OS 10.4.11 who would appreciate some consideration here.
    Thanks for listening.
    Cheers,
    Tom

I sympathize with the sentiment. I upgraded to SL from Tiger just so I could use the Magic Mouse. It's that cool. I think doing what you suggest would be impossible for Apple. For one, so few people are using Tiger now that economically, it just wouldn't make sense for Apple to develop it any further. For another thing, the first Mac with multi-touch technology was the Macbook Air, and it debuted during the Leopard era. The foundation for multi-touch technology just isn't built into Tiger. I do think it was a mistake for Apple to take the bluetooth Mighty Mouse off the market. That was a good mouse, and there was no reason it had to go.

  • I have a 5 month old Magic Mouse and I want to replace the batteries for the first time but the battery door will not release any suggestions?

The battery compartment door on my Magic Mouse appears to be jammed shut and will not open, the device is only 5 months old and this is the first time I have needed to open it to change the batteries. Are there any suggestions?

It could be you are approaching it incorrectly.   It can be a tricky little gadget that actually works with minimal pressure.
Try turning over the mouse so the compartment panel faces you, optical sensor topmost.  Then holding the mouse at each side but not on the panel itself, flick the small, black rectangular panel downwards.   The top of the panel should spring out, though it may require you to manipulate it fully away from the mouse.
Once you have replaced the batteries, starting at the bottom reverse the procedure then clip into place.   Remember to move the small switch next to the optical sensor upwards which should turn on the green light.   Then click twice to connect.

  • Magic Mouse works properly only on one user Account

I just bought a Magic Mouse to use with my PPC Imac.  I have two users set up on this iMac and I set up the mouse while using one of those user accounts.  By the way I set it up to be a left-handed mouse with the left button being for the secondary (right) click. I got the mouse installed and it wasn't working very smoothly.  Then I discovered that I needed to update the software to the Magic Mouse Update 1.0. That seemed to get it working as fine as it could on this old machine and I was quite happy with it.  However, yesterday I switched to the other user account and the Magic Mouse was acting completely weird.  When I clicked on anything it was like a right click with menus popping up.  In addition, it wouldn't single click at all.  I checked in System Preferences that it was set up the same way as on the other account and it was.  I then tried to switch it back to be a normal right-handed mouse.  That gave me some functioning but it was very inconsistent and frustrating.  If it wasn't for the "old" wireless mouse that I had there were moments when I would have been completely stuck.
Given that it worked fine on the one user account this doesn't seem like a hardward problem to me.  I also installed it on my husband's MacBook Pro running Lion and it works okay in both user accounts.  However, some of the special functions, like Smart Zoom and Mission Control don't seem to be functioning.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever get this resolved. Same thing. In my admin user account it works but in the one I use most I can't swipe scroll or anything?
