Magic Mouse using batteries in 2 days

I have a 27 inch iMac bought 2009 with Magic Mouse and running Snow Leopard. The mouse is powered by Apple batteries using the Apple battery charger.
In the last few weeks the battery life in the mouse has been two days at the most. Those in the keyboard have a normal life before needing recharging.
I don't know whether it is a fault with the mouse, with the batteries and charger or, perhaps, software.
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

I have exactly the same problem with a 2011 27-inch iMac. Batteries are good in Magic Mouse for about two days tops. It doesn't matter how much the mouse or Mac is used and isn't battery dependent. Battery drain is steady and notable almost hour-by-hour.
I've tried multiple chargers, multiple rechargable batteries, and a three different Magic Mouse(s) (mice?). Same result. The problem doesn't appear to be the mouse. It's probably the iMac. The same mouse on a nearby 24-inch iMac, circa 2009, lasts for a month or two. Maybe there's an issue with Bluetooth. I love the Magic Mouse and would buy a USB version in a heart beat.

New Magic Mouse uses batteries in less than a day

A couple of weeks ago I got my beautifull 27" mac will all (except 16 GB of ram) the options.
Overall it has been a unquestionable investment.
However, the magic mouse has had unacceptable battery performance.
The original batteries only lasted just over 2 weeks and I was forced to replace them just a couple of days ago.
Throughout their life the mouse presented mixed signals about battery percentage, after a few days of use it suddenly reported low battery (the day before it said 100%) and then after moving the batteries around it returned functionality.
I had to repeat this "fix" untill the batteries were totally dead. earlier today I had to exchange the second pair of batteries, which had a supprisingly short battery-life.
After hardly using the mouse today because I was away filming I returned to find the mouse batteries dead eventhough they were brand new.
I have searched the forum and found similar problems of short battery life but less then a day of hardly any use is simply unnacceptable!!
Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?
If not then I'm going have no choice but to ask for a replacement.

First, battery life is a direct function of usage and the type of batteries in use.
Throughout their life the mouse presented mixed signals about battery percentage, after a few days of use it suddenly reported low battery (the day before it said 100%) and then after moving the batteries around it returned functionality.
Inaccurate readings (in system preferences) is a known problem. I have found that a Dashboard widget (mighty monitor) is reasonably accurate.
If usage is a problem, I suggest you consider rechargeables. I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger. Rechargeables do not last as long as Lithium batteries, but they are available on short notice and are environmentally friendly.

Magic Mouse battery only lasts 30 days?

I bought my new 21" iMac back in October and today got a message from Magic Mouse that batteries need to be replaced.
What kind of battery life other folks are getting from MM? Is there anything can be done to increase battery life of MM?

Would seem some Apple reference reported the Magic Mouse batteries should last four months. I've only found items that report the reference (have not located the reference itself). Clips below are cross posted, but if you search the Internet for the terms ["Magic Mouse" four months] (without the brackets), you'll find a whole series of early reviews and comments containing the same reference to four month battery life.
Perhaps inquire directly of Apple Care. Gizmodo's review (http://gizmodo.com/5386202/apple-magic-mouse-review ) relays a claim about the Magic Mouse battery life saying, "it's powered by two AA batteries, which get up to four months of use per charge, according to Apple."
Engadget's preview (link follows) included the same reference, the related headline read, "Apple's Magic Mouse: one button, multitouch gestures, Bluetooth, four-month battery life."

Finding support for Gizmodo's reference ("according to Apple") and Engadget's headline may be a little more difficult. Perhaps I haven't read the press release carefully enough. Clip below, from that Apple press release:

Can magic mouse use regular duracell batteries?

Jusr got a new iMac with a Magic mouse. Have used wired mouse forEVER on all my other macs but thought what the heck, let's use the magic one. I love it. swiping and all features are killer. but, battery life isn't great. Can I use regular duracell batteries AAs rather than buying and using a charger?

Magic mouse eats batteries

My Magic Mouse goes through a pair of batteries every five weeks. Seems oddly extraordinary considering my MS mouse at work needs new batteries once a year. Suggestions?

I agree, this mouse *****! it eats batteries like we are all rich and don't care about the environment.
Tossing batteries into garbage or recycle who cares it still a waste. People are throwing batteries away left right and center.
I use rechargeables at home and they die fast also, I use 2200-2600 mah rechargeables brand name or regular doesn't matter. Work doesn't, they just use duracells as their IT guys says they get 6-8 months easy on their USB mice. What's wrong with this Mac stuff?? Cost a lot, looks nice, but high maintenance!! This is the only piece of equipement apple has release in a while that is a pain more than it's beneficial function. When I really need it the most it fails! Even the bluetooth Trackpad that I have works way better last longer than this thing?? Can't you release some firmware to fix this? I have PC mice that last way longer. I may go back to my old cord mouse.

Why does Magic Mouse use much more battery power than the keyboard?

I have the Bluetooth versions of the keyboard and the Magic Mouse. I use the same rechargeable batteries in each. Yet the mouse has now come to the end of a THIRD set of AAs, while the keyboard still has 60% of its first set.
Why? They are both constantly in use, so why does the Mouse drain batteries so much faster than the keyboard? Viz: the mouse about once a week (two, max), while at this rate, it will be another month or more before the keyboard drains.

Actually I don't! I consider myself a 'power user' in that I will always use the keyboard first, and I learn keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything I do regularly.
I would guess my use is 50:50 at worst?

Two Magic Mouses, same batteries, different charge percentage

I noticed an annoying issue with a Magic Mouse: it shows a very low charge level of the batteries inside, and it's not just a visualization problem because it actually turns off when the level goes under 20% or so.
The problem is related to this particular Magic Mouse because I tried to put the same battery pack into another Magic Mouse, and this one showed me 100% of battery charge, while the previous one showed 52%.
I tried also to repeat the test with another battery pack, again the faulty Magic Mouse shows 29%, while the other one 99%.
Which could be the cause?

One of the two mice has a faulty charge indicator. It could be either but I suspect the one which turns off at 20%. Mark which batteries are which and go into a professional store that have the facilities (Maplins in the UK) and ask them to do a reading. You can buy a battery charge reader for a few pounds for future use.

Magic mouse draining batteries - no light no pointer

My magic mouse stopped working after I inserted new batteries. The mouse connects with bluetooth but no light comes on and no pointer can be seen. I put new batteries with 63% and within 5 minutes they registered 24%. What is the problem? The mouse is about 18 months old.

Is there obvious evidence of residue from previous leakage?
If so, first try the very fine nail files made of sandpaper and then wipe with a damp, but not wet cloth. Do not apply excessive water or use the item before it is thoroughly dry.
You can also use a cotton bud dampened, but not soaked, with vinegar. Again, finish with a dry cloth.
Don't forget to wipe over the new batteries which may, themselves, have become contaminated by any bad contact.

Magic Mouse is acting worse every day

I got my new Magic Mouse a few weeks ago and it's been working great - for the first few days.
Now, it keeps getting worse and worse. The mouse sticks when I'm pointing at random, slows down for no apparent reason then speeds up, disconnects and reconnects every half hour, and overall is just becoming more and more useless.
This problem doesn't happen when I'm using a 2nd monitor. When I plug it in, the mouse becomes virtually unusable. Absolutely ridiculous. Is there a fix for this?

It might be one of the software that you might be using.
If you are using the so called "enhancement" software, like BetterTouchTools, it might interfere with some of the basic functions with Apple's built in pointer controls.
Also, could battery be issue. Some are reporting that Magic Mouse they bought are defective, since only one side of the battery works, (All Apple mouses are capable of running with just one battery, in order to save weight) I am having similar issues, and need to get my mouse replaced, but since I am 70 miles away from my nearest Apple Store (and living in college dorm, I have no time to get on my car, and drive 70 miles to my nearest store), the temporary solution is to get a mouse pad, and remember to shut off the mouse completely before calling it a night.
Finally, bluetooth? If you are using a Apple Bluetooth keyboard, there's a problem magic mouse draining the battery on keyboard fast, or keyboard draining the magic mouse battery fast. There's a software update that is supposedly fixes this issue.

Magic Mouse - Replaced Batteries - Green light not on

Hi,
I had a message on my imac to say that the batteries in my magic mouse were at 70% so I have replaced the batteries with duracell ones. Now when I turn on the mouse I dont get a green light, and the imac doesnt recognise the mouse.
I have tried putting the old batteries back in but still the light doesn't come on.
The iMAC is less than six months old.

Make sure the batteries are fresh and the the positive terminal of both batteries face the same direction, up.

Just idly thinking about your post mentioning you had only had it for 4 or 5 days. Such a problem rarely gets better with time, were you suggesting you hoped it would improve, in other words?
I can see you are now aware of the packing option but if you are using Apple, Duracell or Energiser batteries packing it out should not be necessary. Any other batteries I cannot speak for.
One buys Apple because of its' reputation against other products; you will be helping to maintain that by asking for an exchange. You will feel better for it, and speak better of it.
Forgive me if the opinion is a touch biased; I've been very lucky with my iMac purchase and the only exchange I ever made only enhanced my view of Apple; it went so smoothly.

Magic mouse doesn't work with new batteries

my magic mouse green led light won't turn on after putting in new batteries. I've changed the batteries a few times with no problems, but now it won't work. Can my mouse be defective/broken only after a few months??

I have exactly the same issue. Whenever I replace the batteries in my magic mouse I have a few days of constant disconnections. At first it's very annoying and the mouse disconnects every 3 minutes or so. It reconnects automatically in about 15 seconds but it's a huge pain. After a couple of days the connection seems to smooth out and become very stable. My guess is that it is something to do with the actual BlueTooth radio and that the signal strength might actually be too high at first. One note is that I have a magic mouse that I use with an iMac and that never seems to have the trouble, but the mouse that I've used with my laptops has always had this problem even with a couple of different laptops. It might be the mouse, but it also could be that when I'm using my laptops the mouse is only a few inches from the computer, but on the desktop the mouse is probably 2 feet from the computer.
Seems like it's a radio issue to me.

Is it really dead? Can it be revived?

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM. If that does not work, it is probably gone.
