Magic Mouse with FCPx or Magic Trackpad or both?

I've been using the trackpad with FCPx for sometime, it works well but sometimes it's nice to use the mouse. Was wondring if the Magic Mouse would be better, anyone using the Magic Mouse with FCPx and prefer it as apposed to the Matic Trackpad

I'm a fan of the MTP!
e.g. scrolling thru the timeline by just 'wiping' on the pad is great.
plus, the OS-gestures to switch windows/screens is very helpful, e.g. I'm using QuicktimePro to select only short parts of longer files, import those to FCPX - so screen#1 is FCPX, screen#2 is QTpro, screen#3 Pixelmator (to create 'live' graphics for my project) ...... very ... handy < pun intended >
have you seen this method?

  • Swipe between pages feature is freezing with magic mouse and magic trackpad in Mavericks

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and  on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?
    Thanks for your help

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Magic Trackpad won't work with Magic Mouse on brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac

I have a brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac which I bought with Snow Leopard pre-loaded. Naturally, I included the new Magic Trackpad in my purchase, and though there were some problems with the device in SL - such as it going haywire without explanation - it generally worked, although battery levels were erratic (one day 80%, then an hour later 42%, then 80% again).
When I installed Lion I did a clean install after backing up to Time Machine - and a Super Dupered external drive. I had some difficulties trying to install Lion from an external flash drive so I deleted again and reinstalled SL, then reinstalled over the SL install I did (with no other software except Mac OS X 10.6.8 and other system updates to facilitate install). Rather than copying apps from my old SL drive, I downloaded fresh copies and reinstalled one by one. I don't use a lot of apps apart from Microsoft Office, browsers and iLife and have not installed any additional scripts, extensions or add-ons (like USB Overdrive). It's a pretty clean install.
Since then, although I'm generally happy with Lion, the Magic Trackpad won't work! It does work for a little while with basic gestures - mainly moving the cursor and scrolling - then it gives up the ghost and loses connectivity. I have done the following:
Disconnected and reconnected the MTP after turning it on and off. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Shut the computer down, pulled out the plug, waited two minutes, then started up again. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Run Onyx, shut down computer, then pulled out plug (see above).
Checked options in Universal Access, shut off "Ignore other devices when trackpad in use" (or whatever the option is). MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Turned off the Magic Mouse. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
But none of this seems to work! I know the MTP is connected because I can see it in the BT menu in the menu bar and also in System Preferences. I have noticed since upgrading that my permissions - which when I bought the computer were totally clean - now run lines and lines about "Library/Core Services" so I am unsure whether this is related. I also notice a lot of people are in the same boat as me, which makes me wonder if it's either a hardware issue or a release issue - after a week or so of totally silent running, my 2TB Hitachi HDD started up with the grumbly tum. I'd really appreciate any tips from anyone out there!

    Hi, marksaner
You could try installing the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that makes the UltraNav driver and drivers for many other computer brands. This driver should have the same functionality as the UltraNav driver, so there's no worry there. You can find the driver here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • I have an iMac with a Magic Mouse, if I want to upgrade my iMac to the OS X Lion, will I have to buy a Magic Trackpad?

I have an iMac with a Magic Mouse, if I want to upgrade my iMac to the OS X Lion, will I have to buy a Magic Trackpad?

Expanding on what Barry said, Lion includes features specifically for trackpads, but it's by no means necessary to have one. A Magic Mouse will work just fine (as will any other mouse or trackball).
    Regards.

  • Does logic recognize gestures? Replace mouse with magic trackpad?

Can you replace your mouse with a trackpad?  I use the wheel for zooming does logic recognize gestures?

I replaced my mouse with the Magic Trackpad when it came out and use it then on my office iMac and my Logic machine. I never looked back.
You can use the gestures to scroll and zoom in Logic and pretty much everthing else.
If you want to take the Trackpad and your customize workflow to the next level, get the BTT (Better Touch Tool) app. You can customize pretty much everything with any finger-touch-combination you can imagine.
    Hope that helps

  • Interesting and useful gesture with the Magic Trackpad

I just discovered something that might be useful to others. I often am dragging small projects between HDDs, in/out of folders, etc. from within FCPX. I use a Magic Trackpad alongside  my MB Pro. I just discovered that if I click and hold steady with one (index) finger, I can use the next two fingers and easily scroll a long list of Projects to get where I'm trying to copy or move the selected Project.
Before with a mouse, or the trackpad, I was always tryiing to hit that sweet spot in the corner which would auto scroll the list. I find it hard to do and especially on a track pad. The method above is so much faster and easier, though it does require holding the index finger rock steady while sliding the other two fingers.
This seems to work on the large trackpad of 2009+ MB Pros also though it's harder due to size, placement, etc.
This click with one finger, drag with two technique seems to work in other apps, and other parts of FCPX. I just had not cought onto it until the scenario I described above.

    maybe I don't get your description a 100% but ... ??
to scroll in the Project list, no 'click'n hold' needed - just the usual 2fingers scroll.
and I wouldn't use the index-finger for a 'click'n hold' - just click with your thumb - and let it stay on the trackpad - and move one or two fingers, as needed.
(my wrist rests on the table, right thumb lower left of MTP, fingers hovering, clicking, touching, smearing )
interesting method is a 'mouse-less' usage of FCPX demoed here:

  • Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.
I am filing a comment about this on Apple's feedback forum at www.apple.com/feedback at the advice of a Genius at the Apple Store at Cambridgeside in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.

  • Has anyone figured a way to use the Magic Trackpad with Windows 7 on a partitioned disc using Bootcamp?

Has anyone figured a way to use the magic trackpad with Windows 7 on a partitioned disc using Bootcamp?

Yes. After Windows/Bootcamp discovers  your bluetooth device (Magic Trackpad or Mouse, be sure to make it discoverable), right click, with your wired mouse, of course, on the icon and select Properties.
Then check the mouse drivers box and your device should work. (I located this solution on another thread)
It works for both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.
Must admit, the solution was not intuitive within the Windows environment. But we all must remember. It IS Windows, after all.
Another thing. Keep in mind that the gestures on these devices that work just dandy in OSX do not carry over into Windows.
    It's Windows.

  • Using Apple Magic Mouse With Windows 7 64 bit and Parallels Desktop 8 questions

I will be getting an iMac in the coming months and installing Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 64 bit.
I was wondering if I would have the functions of been able to left click, right click, scroll (preferably vertically but also occasionally horizontally) with the Apple Magic Mouse when I'm running Windows 7 through Parallels Desktop 8?
I just wondered if anyone has installed Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7 and have you been able to do what i mentioned above and also have you come across any other issues, problems whilst using the Apple Magic Mouse on the Windows side?
If there is any problems/issues with doing the above, is there anything I will need to do to get the above functionality to work?
    Thanks in advance.

    The same with the trackpad!
Sometimes scrolling is a bit too fast, becuase Win 7 isn't made to use with the Magicmouse or trackpad.
The only thing i miss / doesn't work ist the middle mouse button!
Thanks very much for the help stz-42 its much appreciated.
Providing I can left click, right click, scroll, then that's OK for me as I will be spending the vast amount of my time on the Mac side.
Are you able to scroll both horizontally and vertically when using Parallels 8 Win 7 64 bit on your iMac?

    Hi everyone!
So the other day I setup bootcamp on my mac.  I can now access windows but when I do, I have to first boot up OS X, disconnect my magic mouse then switch back to windows to pair it again.  Is this supposed to happen because its really annoying.

  • Magic Trackpad recognized as mouse in 10.9

I have a Magic Trackpad that, when I attempt to pair it with my 2013 MacBook Air, connects as a mouse. As in, it works as a traditional trackpad—no multitouch whatsoever. I don't have any mice connected, and I open up the "mouse" preferences, and it shows me options. I have looked all over the Internet, and I can't figure it out. Will someone please help me? Thanks.

    Hi,
I had the same problem since yesterday and apparently this was my problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21510440#21510440
I had Usb Overdrive installed and this caused me the trouble with my trackpad.
Uninstalled it, rebooted my macbook, and my trackpad started working as it shoud be.

  • Fine-grained control with Magic Trackpad?

One thing I find difficult with the Magic Trackpad is making very small adjustments to slider controls in apps such as image and audio editors. I'm referring to the sort of sliders that are sensitive to mouse scroll wheels.
Aside from keeping a mouse connected to operate these controls, or going back and forth to System Preferences to change the tracking speed, are there any ways to do this more easily with a trackpad? For example, a utility that lets you switch to fine-grained movement with the trackpad when you hold down a certain key?

you do not invalidate the session, but the session object is
unavailable only on that page. That is my understanding of how this works.
In effect it removes the implicit call to request.getSession(true) that every jsp makes to populate the variable "session"
If I use the <c:url> tag on page 2 using a cookieless browser the link
is still encoded with the session? Sorry, don't know that one.
The <url> tag will still call response.encodeURL() of course.
I'm not sure if it would pick up the presence of the sessionid or not though.
The session is definitely still there.
The cookie (if present) is obviously still there.
The sessionId is sent as part of the request.
Theoretically it SHOULD pick it up and encode it still if present. I've never tried it myself though.
    Good luck,

  • Magic Mouse vs. Magic Trackpad

I've never owned a laptop, and the few times I used one, I found the trackpad a royal PITA (more accurately, Pain In The Finger/Hand/Wrist). But that was prior to the Magic Trackpad, and I'm wondering if my experience is specific to the types of trackpads found in those older laptops, or if it's pretty much what I'd experience with  the MagicTrackpad.
    Any "hands-on" opinions?

I have never used a magic mouse, but use my magic trackpad & built in trackpad ( I have a macbook air) relgiously. The magic trackpad uses amazing technology to sense your fingers, even in 4-5 fingers at once. Touching an apple trackpad is nothing like clicking a regular mouse / trackpad. I know this is a weird example, but picture touching a magic trackpad / magic mouse as touching your hair just hard enough to feel the skin. an apple trackpad / mouse is programmed to that kind of touch. Since you barely have to touch it, it rarely causes pain. There is no 'clicking' involved. The magic trackpad is flat, but if keeping your hand flat hurts, it may help to use the magic mouse or vice versa.

  • Magic trackpad not working with mac mini

I have a new Mac mini and I paired a wireless trackpad and magic trackpad.  I paired the trackpad with my MBP and it works exactly like the trackpad on my MBP.  When I use the trackpad with the mini, I can't get it to "right click" or two finger scroll.  For example, if I'm in iTunes, and want to scroll through my library, a two finger scroll on the trackpad just moves the curser, the only way I can move up and down on a page is to use the arrows.  I can't get it to give me anything with a right click.  When I go to System Prefrences, it only shows "keyboard" and "mouse", but no set up options for the trackpad.  And under the mouse settings, it doesn't give me any "secondary" click options.  What am I missing?

I had the same problem. Rebooting the computer fixed the issue for me.
