Magic Trackpad - Corel Draw

I'm considering purchasing the Magic Trackpad. I have read numerous reports of it being able to work with Windows... can anyone verify this from personal experience? Basically, can I use it as an input device for Corel Draw?

I have your message by eMail notification but it has only just registered in this system.   To be honest, I haven't met this situation before.   At the times when it says connected am I right to assume this follows one of the times when you were able to switch on.   Tell me, which of your machines does this affect.   If it is one of the MacBook Pros, if you connect it to the mains will the trackpad then switch on.
Can we now turn to Bluetooth.   And several more questions for you to answer.
1. Is your Bluetooth setting as it always was or has it been changed recently.
2. Has the network been changed.
3. Has your router been moved to another room.
4, have you recently introduced something electronic into the room which may cause interference.

Magic trackpad, Intuos4, Better touch tools and Photoshop issues

I am using a new magic trackpad with an Intuos4 (most recent update) with Photoshop CS2. I used BTT (better touch tools) to designate upper left click for brush, and lower right click for eraser. Works great (little lag from trackpad) on my 2006 macbook.
But after several swithces between brush and eraser, my Intuos4 pen stops drawing or erasing. The cursor still moves around, but I can't draw or erase. Is thre something I can do about this?
I love using the trackpad with my left hand because I don't have to look down from the screen, and can keep my right hand drawing. Really effecient when it works. I checked the wacom forum and they said try moving the two pads farther apart.
Any insight? I plan on updating computer and software. Maybe this is not a problem with a new iMac and Lion?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
The brute-force approach would be to reinstall the last version of Mac OS X.
Another approach, although not necessarily for the faint at heart, is to look in /Library/Receipts/boms ("bill of materials", presumably) for a file named after the update, then look in it for the list of files updated as part of the update. I don't know if there's a user-oriented application that knows how to look into a "bom" file, but I was able to see that information with a "strings" command in a Terminal session.
One last approach might be to look in /System/Library/Extensions for a "kext" file with a name and/or date that suggests that it was updated as part of the trackpad update.
Once new and/or updated files have been identified, you could move them out of the directory where they are found. If a file has been updated, it might be important to replace it with the older version of the file, otherwise something important could be disabled.

Hello! Given your lack of knowledge of Macs, I will try to keep this as simple as possible for you.
Macs ran from 1996 through 2006 on a Central Processing Unit (CPU) called the PowerPC. Windows software ran on the Intel CPU platform. Apple made the decision to switch its complete inventory of Macs to Intel in 2006, but did not want to financially penalize its existing base of users who had a substantial financial investment in their existing PowerPC software.
So Apple licensed a third party technology, which they called Rosetta and installed it in OS X (at that time Tiger, then Leopard, then optionally Snow Leopard), which transparently and almost magically emulated the PowerPC CPU instructions on the Intel CPU. Rosetta worked so well that most Mac users had no idea what it was, or what it was doing for many years after 2006.
The problem is that Apple's license to continue to develop, install and use Rosetta for OS X expired with the release of Lion and now Mountain Lion. Hence, older PowerPC applications will no longer run natively on Lion or Mountain Lion.
The best solution, if it is available, is an upgrade for your PowerPC software that has been rewritten to work on the Intel CPU. If this upgrade is available, there is generally a financial cost to purchase it and many such upgrades are very costly, especially cumulatively. Presumably, Corel was never rewritten to work on the Intel CPU.
Since it appears that you have purchased a new Mac, it must boot Mountain Lion, so another alternative, the so-called "dual-boot" approach, is not available to you.
That leaves using what is called virtualization on your Mac to be able to run this software.
One solution is to run Windows on your Mac (either in what is called Bootcamp, or in virtualization through the use of a third party program offered by Parallels or VMWare Fusion). Is there a Windows version of Corel that you would be happy and satisfied to run? You would have to purchase Windows and presumably the Windows version of Corel as well.
Another solution is to run Mac OS X Snow Leopard in virtualization on your Mac. This is the version of OS X that just preceeded Lion and Mountain Lion and is the last one that can have Rosetta installed into it.
Parallels and VMWare Fusion only support the installation of a version of Snow Leopard called Snow Leopard Server. While it is easy to install and is supported, it originally sold by Apple for $499+. While Apple no longer sells it, it is available on eBay and I have seen it selling recently for $51 - $99+. Parallels and VMWare Fusion each sell for about $79 retail and shopping on the internet can yield some discounts. You only need one or the other, not the both of Parallels or VMWare.
There is also a free virtualization program offered by Oracle, called VirtualBox. I have no experience with this program and I do not know if Snow Leopard or its Server version can be installed on it.
A more complicated approach is the installation of the normal Snow Leopard into Parallels. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for $19.99, but you would have to follow the installation instructions I have offered online. This may be too challenging for you to undertake, but the instructions are located here:

After pairing in Bootcamp, magic trackpad does not work

after pairing in Bootcamp, magic trackpad a) does not control cursor and b) does not persist after closing Bluetooth devides dialog.
Summary of Problem:
Magic Trackpad is found and paired, but does not control the mouse.
When you shut the Bluetooth devices and reopen (or reboot and reopen), the device is not listed.
Detials of problem:
Bootcamp 3.1 (i cannot find a later one) Windows XP all updates, All Apple Software Updates (to bootcamp and mac os x) installed, Magic Trackpad driver download and installed.
Control Panel, Bluetooth Devices, Add - it detectes the magic track pad (ie track pad blinking, click add) everytime
- It asks about a pass code, I have tried it without a pass code and with automatically Generate Passcode; does this setting matter?
In bluetooth devides, the track pad shows with "Auto Generated passkey" when that is the option selected
Found new hardware comes up, Apple Wireless Trackpad, everything looks fine.
- In Bluetooth Devices, it shows the trackpad wiht "no passkey", even when I told it to automatically generate one.
The track pad does not control the cursor.
Close Bluetooth Devices and reopen it, or reboot and reopen Bluetooth devices, and the track pad is gone.
Rebooting does not change the outcome of above.
I have gone to device manager and tried to update the two (apple & microsoft) Bluetooth drivers with the update button, it says I have the most current.
I do not see how to tell if the Magic Trackpad driver is installed, so I tried installing it again. It does appear to be listed under HID in device manager.
I have done a lot of googling, wasted a lot of time, if I cannot get it to work, I will return it to the apple store.
Any ideas?

Bob, cannot help directly but I am having a similar problem on my MacBook Pro with Windows 7 Pro. Pretty much the same symptoms except my trackpad is not always recognized - it seems I have to click it to get Bluetooth to see it. Windows claims to have seen it OK on one occasion and installed the drivers, asked for a reboot etc. but the TrackPad still does not respond.
Works OK on the Mac side although it is not recognized as a separate Bluetooth trackpad which can be configured differently from the built-in. I wonder if this might be a clue?
I have installed the patch and tried a bunch of other things. Seems like Apple has some work to do sorting out the bugs on both the Mac and Windows side with this device. Pity because its an excellent piece of kit otherwise!

Problem with Magic TrackPad and Macbook Pro

I just bought the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic TrackPad for my home desktop setup. I connect my Macbook Pro 13" (from august 2010) to a Dell U2410 screen.
Everything works perfectly for a while, but then the cursor starts jumping around on the screen when I use the Magic TrackPad. Now here comes the weird thing, if I open the lid on the Macbook just a few inches the jumping stops completely and the Magic TrackPad works perfectly again.
I have tried googling a bit and browsed these forums also - no luck finding a solution.
I have also tried connecting a USB mouse to the Macbook when the cursor started to jump around - no problem with the USB mouse. I have also tried a different Magic TrackPad that my friend also just have bought for his setup - same problem after a short time.
Everything is updated to the latest software and firmware.

I have the same problem with a Trackpad paired with a new Mac Mini just purchased in September. After a while, my trackpad also starts to exhibit behavior similar to those described by Hecro. The trackpad cursor feels frozen, or else it jumps around, often trying to stay away from or jump over any hyperlink in either text or graphic form on the page I am viewing.
I find that if I pick up the trackpad and hold it above my palm between my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side — so there is no pressure on the clicking feet on the bottom of the trackpad — a "jumping" trackpad instantly becomes a "stable" trackpad. Put it back down on a surface and it starts jumping again.
Also, when it starts jumping or skipping, I also find that if I use one finger and bear down hard on the trackpad, it resumes being responsive.

I am trying to install Corel Draw x5 on windows xp pro via Parallels 7 and having an issue . it states about 99% through the install that it is missing a file any suggestions?

I am trying to install Corel Draw x5 on my new iMAC. I am trying to install it on windows XP Pro via Parallels 7. I have already installed some other programs without any issues so this has me puzzled. whenever the install reaches about 99% complete it says it can not find 2 files(sorry I cant recall what it was).

The error message I get is that iTunes is trying to incorrectly open Visual C services.
Is there somebody at Apple who actually read these things or are we on our own without any iTunes?

My mac pro won't pair with my magic trackpad.

I'm posting in this forum because I am using a Mac Pro, what we used to call a "tower," and my Magic Trackpad isn't recognized & won't pair. This has been an increasing problem over the past year, and I actually blamed the trackpad and bought a new one -- and of course it doesn't work either. My MacBook Pro (actually two of them) use the same latest version of Mountain Lion and they pair up just fine, never dropping the connection. I'm an old-timer with 25 years on the Mac, and I'm stumped. The support forums here confirm that this is a common problem -- MT not pairing -- and I have tried every suggestion I can find. Booting in safe mode, repairing permissions, trashing the bluetooth prefs file, VRAM and SMC resets, moving computer away from any possible interference, and probably two or three more I can't recall. I don't have any exotic apps installed (there's one that has something to do with Windows that can cause this problem, but I don't have it), nothing on the tower that's not on the two laptops running the same OS X version. For the record, I have a 2x2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, all the original Apple installation. OS X is 10.8.4. I've tried three different brands of alkaline batteries. For a time the problem was intermittent (the dreaded "dropped connection") but now it doesn't pair up at all, i.e. neither of my two trackpads pair up. I've let the "searching" function run for as long as 30 minutes, including some restarts of the trackpad...you get the picture. Although this has been addressed in other places in support, I am posting here because so far I don't have a solution. Any ideas? I really appreciate the forum, have been here a long time, and hope that someone has that next good idea that's going to help me. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem as you with Bluetooth stuff. It was suggested to me that I buy an external BT dongle
as the bluetooth reception in the stock Mac Pro was spotty at best.I did so- iogear 421 (the 521 is supported but ONLY in Mountain Lion, so I was told) and bluetooth works just fine. Of course it might be that the cables for your Bluetooth/Airport card in your Mac Pro could have been installed incorrectly (just google bluetooth in Mac Pro help) but...if they have been, then the dongle might be your best bet, or some kind of external antenna
(the G5 had one, as you may know, but we don't......)
I see by your posting you have tried every suggestion you possibly could, and it's not software related
and it's not a simple one-shot-done fix...
that's the best I have for now. I think I paid about $25 for the dongle and it was easy as pie to install

Swipe between pages feature is freezing with magic mouse and magic trackpad in Mavericks

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?

Is there a way to control the Magic Trackpad scrolling speed?

I just got the new magic Trackpad.
I am finding the speed of scrolling in window to be quite fast such that I it goes to far. Is there anyway to control the speed of it so it does not go to fast?

I haven't received my MTP yet but if it works like the trackpad on my MBP you just don't flick your finger so fast. The speed is governed by how quickly you move your finger across the surface which is something I find very cool because it puts me in total control.

Magic trackpad not recognized by MacBook air

Macbook air bluetooth does not recognize Magic Trackpad when searching for bluetooth pairings. Printed instructions followed.Can I download something that remedies this, or is it a limitation of the MacBOok Air itself?

I called Apple Support. My early 2008 version of the MacBook is not compatible with the Magic Trackpad.

Unable to install magic trackpad driver on Windows 7 on MBP

I recently purchased a Magic Trackpad and it's working perfectly on the Mac side of my MBP. However, I downloaded the 32-bit driver for my Winfows 7 Bootcamp side and every time I try to run the driver I receive the following error:
"Windows Installer
The installed product does not match the installation source(s). Until a matching source is provided or the installed product and source are synchronized, this action cannot be performed."
It then tries to point me to the following source "C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Boot Camp 3.0.0\". If I press OK it tells me that the file there is not valid. I also tried pointing it to the OSX install disc in my optical drive and it doesn't work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Stefan, I checked the version on my Boot Camp drivers and they are in fact 3.1. Checking a little further I seem to have found two issues:
1. It seems that it's not only this, but any type of update I try to do it tries to find the drivers in folder 3.0.0.
2. The Boot Camp install I'm asking help with is actually one I migrated to my new MBP using winclone. I moved from a 2009 2.4GHz MBP to a 2.66GHz MBP. I tried to update the old MBP's driver and it does so successfully, so this leads me to believe that the winclone install didn't go 100% perfectly. I will try to reformat my Boot Camp partition, reinstall Windows 7 and then try to update to see if this resolves the issue.

Magic Trackpad won't work with Magic Mouse on brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac

I have a brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac which I bought with Snow Leopard pre-loaded. Naturally, I included the new Magic Trackpad in my purchase, and though there were some problems with the device in SL - such as it going haywire without explanation - it generally worked, although battery levels were erratic (one day 80%, then an hour later 42%, then 80% again).
When I installed Lion I did a clean install after backing up to Time Machine - and a Super Dupered external drive. I had some difficulties trying to install Lion from an external flash drive so I deleted again and reinstalled SL, then reinstalled over the SL install I did (with no other software except Mac OS X 10.6.8 and other system updates to facilitate install). Rather than copying apps from my old SL drive, I downloaded fresh copies and reinstalled one by one. I don't use a lot of apps apart from Microsoft Office, browsers and iLife and have not installed any additional scripts, extensions or add-ons (like USB Overdrive). It's a pretty clean install.
Since then, although I'm generally happy with Lion, the Magic Trackpad won't work! It does work for a little while with basic gestures - mainly moving the cursor and scrolling - then it gives up the ghost and loses connectivity. I have done the following:
Disconnected and reconnected the MTP after turning it on and off. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Shut the computer down, pulled out the plug, waited two minutes, then started up again. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Run Onyx, shut down computer, then pulled out plug (see above).
Checked options in Universal Access, shut off "Ignore other devices when trackpad in use" (or whatever the option is). MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Turned off the Magic Mouse. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
But none of this seems to work! I know the MTP is connected because I can see it in the BT menu in the menu bar and also in System Preferences. I have noticed since upgrading that my permissions - which when I bought the computer were totally clean - now run lines and lines about "Library/Core Services" so I am unsure whether this is related. I also notice a lot of people are in the same boat as me, which makes me wonder if it's either a hardware issue or a release issue - after a week or so of totally silent running, my 2TB Hitachi HDD started up with the grumbly tum. I'd really appreciate any tips from anyone out there!

You could try installing the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that makes the UltraNav driver and drivers for many other computer brands. This driver should have the same functionality as the UltraNav driver, so there's no worry there. You can find the driver here.

Windows 7 on iMac 27" Late 2009, Magic Trackpad issue.

I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit on my iMac 27" Late 2009 model using Boot Camp and my magic trackpad is not functioning the way it should be. The trackpad works however does not recognise secondary click. There is no option to activate this and the tap to click function is not available either. Also my magic mouse does not want to connect when in Windows mode. I downloaded all the drivers that Mac downloaded for me from Boot Camp Assistant however the trackpad is still not 100% functional. I am not expecting all the gestures to work however i would to have the secondary click and tap to click function to work.
Any suggestions? BTW i am running Lion OS X.

I was able to start boot manager. I had 4 options:
1. Macintosh HD
2. Recovery-10.8.2
3. Windows
4. EFI Boot
I choose option 3 (Windows). But i got the following message.
CDBOOT: Couldn't find BOOTMGR
Any idea?
