Magic Trackpad freezes after batteries changed

The past few times my Magic Trackpad batteries have needed replacing, it loses its bluetooth connection and cannot be found.  The only way I can get things going again is to shut down my iMac with the power button and restart.  I believe this has only been an issue since I installed Lion.  Any ideas on how to fix this annoying behavior?  I'm using Apple's rechargeable batteries.

Yes!  I did that and then removed and replaced my Trackpad batteries and here I am again, with everything working.  I may even notice a few other positive changes.

  • Magic Trackpad freezing after startup

I recently got a Magic Trackpad for my MacPro. Installation went well. But when I restarted, the only thing functioning with the trackpad is the cursor. The double click etc. all gone.
I again restarted and all's back to normal.
This happens everytime I open the MacPro. 1st boot the trackpad is not functioning, then when restarted, all will be back to normal.
Need some help here. Thanks so much.

Maybe someone in our brand new Magic Mouse and Trackpad forum can help.

  • Keyboard and trackpad freeze after being idle for a few minutes

I have a early 2008 MBP and just today the keyboard and trackpad freeze after not using it for a few minutes.  I was at work when it happened.  I plugged it in and started doing something else and a few minutes later came back and i couldn't move the mouse or do anything with the keyboard, but processes were still running.  For example, I have a fan speed app that sits in the toolbar, and it was still showing current fan speed.  So I restarted it, and it did it again.  So the next time it happened, I closed the lid and opened it up and it fixed it.  It's happened several times now after a few minutes of non use and I just close the lid and it fixes it.  Also, there was a period when I was using my computer for a couple of hours non stop and it didn't have a problem.  Only when I'm not touching the keyboard or trackpad does it do it.  since this keeps happening i have verified the disk in disk utility, done a hardware reset with cmd+opt+p+r, ran through system profiler to see if there were any problems with no results, and it still does it.  Anyone have any ideas?
It should be noted that not only does the battery not work for more than about 2 minutes, the left I/O board appears to be dying.  The power chord takes a considerable amount of wiggling and adjusting before it finds a place where it will actually charge. The audio out and the USB on that side are the same way. So I am aware of that problem. Also, I have had to take out the right side fan multiple times and disassemble and oil the bearing because it's going bad, which requires taking the top plate off, but I haven't had to do that for over 6 months. In my mind if the problem was caused by taking the top plate off, that would fry the entire top plate, which happened once when a technitian at a local company took the computer apart for a waranty repair.  All of these problems considered, I don't think they would have anything to do with the fact that the mouse and keyboard suddenly won't work after about 5-10 minutes of sitting idle. I have done nothing different since yesterday that would explain why it does this.
Also, I can't do anything with the install disk because the CD drive is dead.  But that's mostly because it was a piece of garbage to begin with.
    Any Ideas would be helpful.

After doing some more digging I was watching processes in Activity Monitor to see if I could see what process is failing.  I think the problem with with Chrome. It only happened when Chrome was open. And since then I reinstalled it and the problem has so far gone away.  So, I think the problems is solved.

  • Magic trackpad freezes

After installing 10.7.3 when waking from sleep magic trackpad sometimes freezes. If I then I use a mouse the magic trackpad starts working.

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth. Select the device in the list on the left, then from the action menu (gear icon) below the list, select Update Services. Any change?

  • Magic trackpad freezing

Ok, very simply put, I have a 2006 Mac Pro running 10.7.5 fully patched as of today.  I also have the Magic Trackpad (A1339) running over bluetooth to control my pointer.
My issue is this, if I attempt to "Swipe between full-screen apps" left or right with three fingers (or four, depending on configuration under System Preferences), the pointer will freeze for a period of time, up to 10 seconds. This problem is driving me *insane* since I perform multi finger swipes on my 15" Retina Macbook Pro with ease.
What is it with the Magic Trackpad configuration on my Mac Pro that causes the pointer to freeze?

Hi guys, I had the same problem. After some trying around, I noticed that, from the Trackpad settings, pushing "Set Up Bluetooth Trackpad" would bring it to life again. I used Finder via the keyboard (Cmd-Space) and started typing "trackpad". Then pressed Tab several times to highlight the "Set Up... button". Pressed Space and voila, it worked again.
However, the three finger freeze was still there. Turned out that changing the "Tracking Speed" solved the problem completely. Must have been a glimps in the settings or someting... Hope it stays like this.

  • HT4254 Magic Trackpad Freezing Again

Magic Trackpad is freezing frequently again after the latest update to OSX Mavericks. Is there a cure?

    Hi davidaw,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Magic Trackpad is unresponsive or behaving erratically, I recommend starting with the troubleshooting guide found on this page:
Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic
It lists several steps that can help isolate and resolve the behavior you're seeing.
    Best Regards,

  • Mouse trackpad freezes after mavericks update

I have a Macbook Pro Retina and after updating to Mavericks, my mouse curser will freeze on occasion and the only answer is to do a hard reboot.  Very annoying when doing a presentation in front of 100 people!
I hope there is a bug fix soon!

I found the following steps will unfreeze the trackpad:
    1. Use Command + Space to launch Spotlight
    2. Type "System Preferences" in Spotlight to open the System Preferences program
    3. Inside of the search field in System Preferences, type "mouse"
    4. Press the "Enter" key to oper the mouse preferences
At this point, the trackpad will unfreeze.
If you leave System Preferences open after you've completed the steps above, when the trackpad freezes again, you can use Command + Tab to bring System Preferences to the top of your windows.  Doing so will unfreeze the mouse.
Very annoying, but better than a reboot if you're presenting in front of people.  I hope Apple fixes this soon.

  • ITunes freezes after any change in Preferences

After any change in Preferences, I get a message saying "WindowsMobileDeviceApp has stopped working", and then iTunes freezes. I have tried reinstalling iTunes as a repair, but it didn't work. Any ideas?

I don't have an answer to this, but a couple of things you might try.
If you don't have an iPhone it is OK to uninstall the Mobile Divices Support program. I've uninstalled mine with out problems. You can put it back any time by doing a repair install of iTunes.
The other thing you might try is to delete your preference files in case they have got corrupted. This takes you back to how you were when you first installed iTunes. If you have any special prefernces they will be lost, so make note of them.
You may need to make hidden files visible
    My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • Trackpad freezes after restart and update

after every update i have done on my macbook pro (less than 6 moths old) after the restart it lets me enter my password then when i start using it the trackpad completely freezes with the arrow disapearing and randomly appearing again, the only way to get out of this is to power off and on again, any ideas why this keeps happening?

Well, I went through remvoval and moving in single user mode of everything I could think of that may cause the issue, then gave up.
The only solution I found that works perfectly requires another Mac and an extra empty drive.
You will have all your data, and a new clean Maverick install.
Plan on it taking about 10 hours.
Boot the problem mac in target mode (press t).
Connect the problem mac to a good 'booted' mac (firewire if possible).
Connect the extra drive to the good mac.
Download carbon copy clolner, and backup the problem mac to the extra drive.
Once done, try to boot the good Mac to the external drive (restart hold option), just to make sure its good... or actually,  bad and sticks at the same place.
Disconnect the bad mac and restart, holding option.
    Select the recovery drive.
    Open disk utility.
    Select the drive and erase.
    Quit disk utility.
Run Reinstall Maverick selection (you have to be connected to the internet). You'll have to login with your apple id.
Install Maverick. It may do a start and stop as it realizes it needs to be a clean install.
When it installx, and you get to the language screen, click through.
When it asks about transferring, then plug in the external dirve (the clone).
    Select Transfer from another Mac.
Select the external drive, migrate all check boxes and wait.
Once completed with the migration, you'll have a Maverick OS on your old Mac.
What a pain. I can only assume that someone at Apple clocked their nap time as recursive testing hours. I guess Apple needs to install security cameras in its testing labs :-)

  • Trackpad resets after Time change

*Everytime I boot into Leopard after using Vista, the time is set back 2 hours. After fixing it, the trackpad "looses" all settings, reenabling helps, but I woder if this could be stopped somehow.*

The daylight savings time change should not have affected anything.
To help, could you reply with your operating system version, AEBS firmware version, and Airport software version numbers?

•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

  • Cursor freezes after site change Mavericks

My cursor freezes for various amounts of time since downloading Mavericks. Any body else as I'm going to talk to Apple support under Apple care and they tell me no one else has this problem.

I had the same problem. I have found a work around - sort of. I have unchecked the option to "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" (System Preferences / Bluetooth / Advanced). I no longer have the problem. Having to wake the computer another way (I have a USB wireless mouse so no problem for me) and waiting a second or two for the bluetooth devices to connect is less annoying than continually losing trackpad connection. I hope that helps you too.
