Magic trackpad, Intuos4, Better touch tools and Photoshop issues

I am using a new magic trackpad with an Intuos4 (most recent update) with Photoshop CS2. I used BTT (better touch tools) to designate upper left click for brush, and lower right click for eraser. Works great (little lag from trackpad) on my 2006 macbook.
But after several swithces between brush and eraser, my Intuos4 pen stops drawing or erasing. The cursor still moves around, but I can't draw or erase. Is thre something I can do about this?
I love using the trackpad with my left hand because I don't have to look down from the screen, and can keep my right hand drawing. Really effecient when it works. I checked the wacom forum and they said try moving the two pads farther apart.
Any insight? I plan on updating computer and software. Maybe this is not a problem with a new iMac and Lion?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
The brute-force approach would be to reinstall the last version of Mac OS X.
Another approach, although not necessarily for the faint at heart, is to look in /Library/Receipts/boms ("bill of materials", presumably) for a file named after the update, then look in it for the list of files updated as part of the update. I don't know if there's a user-oriented application that knows how to look into a "bom" file, but I was able to see that information with a "strings" command in a Terminal session.
One last approach might be to look in /System/Library/Extensions for a "kext" file with a name and/or date that suggests that it was updated as part of the trackpad update.
Once new and/or updated files have been identified, you could move them out of the directory where they are found. If a file has been updated, it might be important to replace it with the older version of the file, otherwise something important could be disabled.

Touch Screen and Charge Issue

Hey everyone, first time here but also registered at precentral
Asked there, but I'm hoping here would be a better place to voice this issue.
This is my 2nd New Pre I had as the first one had random keyboard loss when my phone died due to battery. I was able to fix it with a 5th batt pull, but I wasn't chancing it..so swiped it.
Well, got my phone with 1.2.x out of the box and tested fine at the store. When home and updated to 1.3.1. weeks later the issue.
touch would random stop working...I had preware so I decided maybe it was a patch or app messing it up (I noticed I didn't have message foward working after update)
So I Doctored it. The Process went nervously fine, up until I got to the home screen. The Touch went out again!
But after messing around a bit after getting it back after a battery pull (at the time touch comes and goes) I was easily able to recreate the issue.
For example:
Touch = dead, once I plug it into a charger (usb/wall), Touch returns.
Touch = alive, (after it came back during day) Once I Plug in to charge, Touch gone.
There was a point that touch wouldn't return if I had the phone slider closed, with screen unlocked. Wether I was plugging it in or removing to charger.
I hope this makes sense, and really hope its not hardware, as I don't wanna return phone to find out it repeats on a new/refurb one. As this one feels solid in every other dept.
Q's Did palm change how the phone locks..reacts to charger??
If so, god, please fix it!

ok, I left work today. in the elevator down to my car i started pandora, bluetooth. Got in the car, docked the phone, plugged in the aux wire to my radio, charger to the phone. Music, couple of calls, music agian, skipped some songs, changed pandora stations, etc...
Got home, undocked the phone, unplugged aux cable and charger, close pandora, turn off the light. Grab my stuff, phone rings can not answer it. Screen now does not work anymore.
Pull the battery twice, no luck. Do some searching and see some post that it is realated to the battery connection and a post that other have got it to work with the charger plugged in.
I take the USB cable, PC to phone and it starts working!! yeah... mess with that batter and no luck. stops working again. unplug the USB from the PC and it is still working. Uplug the USB from the phone, stops working, plug it back in to the phone, not the PC and the screen works again... not really sure what that is about. now it is working with no wire.

Need help with magic trackpad. some touch functions stopped working. battery full and all touch options checked appropriately. whats the deal?

i have tried everything but the tap functions stopped working. any ideas?

Update: I mucked about more after making this post; I installed gnome-alsa-mixer and checked the "internal mic" option and "Auto-Mute mode" (both were off), after this my headphone output works again, and does the built-in microphone (!)
I have no idea how I ended up in this "broken" situation, or even what this option does, or how to use it without gnome-alsa-mixer (I had to install 15 packages to get this, as I normally don't use gnome)... Sound on Linux still seems no better than when I started using it 15 years ago :-( (I spent about 5 hours on this...)

Photoshop CS6 Tools and Cursor Issues with Mountain Lion

Am using Photoshop CS6 on iMac 27inch with Mountain Lion. Experiencing inability to use the move tool to place one image on another after extraction. I place the move tool on the previously extracted image and drag it into an new image, but the extracted image does not get placed on the new image. Also, cursor disappears frequently when using Photoshop for extended periods of time.
Anyone having similar problems?

The cursor disappearing is a well known MacOS bug affecting all applications.
Have you installed all the updates for CS6?
And are you dragging from the layers palette, or from document to document?

IPS Touch monitor and Photoshop CS6

and I own photoshop cs6. I would like to use a stylus pen to edit photos rather than a mouse but I have not been able to find any info online about how well photoshop works with a touch screen. Does anyone out there have any experience and advice for me? Thank you!

Touch screens still aren't at a point where you can use them for accurate painting/retouching.
Wacom Cintiq displays are that accurate (using a pen for position and pressure).

NIK and Photoshop Issues

I've had a need to use my various NIK software quite a bit more, than I normally do, and doing so has uncovered a ton of issues for me. I previously had these issues, but not to the same degree that I do now.
My work flow is to import images into LR3 as RAW from a Canon (5D MkII or 40D), make minor adjustments in LR3, and then export to PS CS5 as 16-bit ProPhoto TIFFs. I normally start with Dfine, then on to Viveza2, and then Color Efex Pro, collapse my layers, save and return to LR3. I can usually repeat this process without any issues. Now, I'm finding that I can repeat this process maybe 2 or 3 times, before something goes wrong. By wrong I mean, I'll have to click multiple times on "Add Control Point" button in Viveza2, before I get the crosshair to drop the point. I frequently have to double or triple click in the location, just to be able to drop the point, otherwise it's "sticky" and follows the mouse, although I'm not holding the button down. Furthermore, once the point is dropped, if I click on a slider, it may not respond respond at all, or if it does respond, it's "sticky" in that I can't release it. At this point, I know that Photoshop needs to be quit and restarted. However, clicking on the "Cancel" or "OK" buttons, doesn't work, or if it does, there is a very long delay. I usually "Force Quit" Photoshop. I can reproduce these issues repeatedly in Viveza 2 and Silver Efex Pro. I don't recall having any issues with the other NIK software applications.
I have had issues with Photoshop unexpected quitting as well, when I'm not in a NIK application. For instance, I may be using the Healing Brush or Clone Stamp, adjusting a Curve or something. I don't recall if I'd previously used a NIK product before the unexpected quit.
To resolve these issues, I've run Apple's Disk Utility, checking for permission and disk related issues. I've also run DiskWarrior for the same issues, though none are found. I've removed the entire NIK suite of applications, uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it, as well as removing my mouse and Wacom drivers. The problem persist with just the Wacom software installed, without having the Razor Pro software installed.
Using an iMac 27", with 8GB RAM, 10.6.5, and the most current versions of all other software and drivers.
Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

I don't have a script as such -- but the installer cleanup tool helps after doing an uninstall.

And the initial release of Photoshop did have some bugs, which is why we put out 2 dot releases.
And MacOS has had a few dot releases to fix bugs that were affecting Photoshop as well, and they still have more to go.

Z1 compact touch screen and connectivity issues

Hi,
I bought a new Z1 compact in Feb 2014, I encountered issues that tool bar on the top moved up and down automatically and movely very fast on the first day, also, the new device auto turned on wifi, bluetooth then disconnected 3G connectivity (default) then the screen started to pop up different screens.
The vendor where i purchased replaced brand new device to me, but so far, it has been the 3rd brand new Z1 compact device and I continued encountering the above issues again and again that I would appreciate to obtain direct support from SONY rather than endless change to new device but same issues are still there.
I recorded those abnormal screen shots, if necessary, i can upload those issues for your easy reference and check further.
looking forward to your solution and advice.

@chrssen23 - I would advise first trying a software repair as below and if this does not work then please contact your local Xperia Care team to look at getting a repair booked.
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

CS5 Flash Brush Tool and Stage Issue

I have two issues while using CS5 Flash right now and it's driving me crazy.
For the first issue. (Number 1)
How do I make it so that the dots do not appear after I draw something with the brush? Whenever I draw something with the brush and select it with the mouse, it goes into a, "Dot" image that is shown in the image. This should not happen. I remember there was a setting that made it so that all objects drawn by the brush are completely solid when you select it with the mouse tool. Which setting is this?
For the second issue, (Number 2)
How do I expand the overall working stage that I use within my image? Whenever I click and drag and object to the right, it gives me a bit more room to see the overall object when I zoom out. But than it stops. How do I make the overall stage larger so I can see all of my objects that I have?

select the brush tool. in the properties panel is a smoothing parameter that you can adjust from 0 to 100. try 0 and see if that's what you want.

Bluetooth Magic Trackpad issues

Hi All,
I tried to find similar question in discussions, but I couldn’t.
After upgrade to OSX Mavericks I have big problem with my magic trackpad connected via Bluetooth. When I start using OSX everything is ok, but after 5-10 minutes I see how trackpad somehow is losing the connection or pointer on the screen is moving with some “jumping” moves. It’s annoying and it happens only with trackpad - when I connect Logitech mouse connected with USB dongle, everything is fine. Sometimes I see that trackpad lose connection at all.
System was upgrade into Mavericks from ML - previously I had SL. I have no idea how this issue can be fixed. Perhaps I can reinstall entire system from clear installation, but I won’t do this.
Any help will be appreciated.

Macbook drag and drop different that magic trackpad ?

Dear friends,
I have been using a Magic Trackpad with my 27" iMac for a long time and have it configured so that a slight single finger tap then enables the dragging of the current window or selection.
On my new rMBP I can achieve this only by clicking and keeping pressed and dragging (tiresome if I have to move long distances) or configure the three-finger drag I'm not used to.
Is there anyway to have the rMBP (10.8.2) behave like the Magic Trackpad ?

I don't usually use tap to click (hate it, personally), but turning it on, I can't find a way to drag a file using just taps and drags.
However, one thing that took me a while to figure out with the MBP is that you don't have to use the same finger you're dragging with to do the clicking. Despite the fact that the MBP's trackpad is multi-touch sensitive, and ordinarily using multiple fingers triggers a gesture of some kind, it seems to be smart enough that you can click with your thumb (as if there were a separate button) while dragging with your index finger, and this won't trigger a "pinch" gesture.
Dunno if that will help you or not.

Can you replace your mouse with a trackpad? I use the wheel for zooming does logic recognize gestures?

I replaced my mouse with the Magic Trackpad when it came out and use it then on my office iMac and my Logic machine. I never looked back.
You can use the gestures to scroll and zoom in Logic and pretty much everthing else.
If you want to take the Trackpad and your customize workflow to the next level, get the BTT (Better Touch Tool) app. You can customize pretty much everything with any finger-touch-combination you can imagine.

Repeated failure to install Magic Trackpad update 1.0 on MB Air 2,1

I have a late 2008 MacBook Air - Model Identifier: MacBookAir 2,1
I have tried 6 times (with 3 downloads) to install the new TrackPad / Multi-touch update 1.0 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1066)
Yes, I have 10.6.4. I don't have any 3rd party trackpad software (smart scroll, better touch tool etc.)
It gets all the way thru the install to the 'move' part (right at the end) and then fails and says to contact the software manufacturer or try again.
Any help PLEASE?

Fixed it myself, so I thought I'd help out the next poor person that has this problem and doesn't get any support.
1. Open Finder and navigate to the /system/library/extensions folder
2. Find the 'AppleUSBMultitouch.kext' and Get Info on it.
3. Change the permissions to read/write.
4. Delete it.
5. Reboot
At this point it will rebuild itself (i.e. take ages and give you the grey progress bar)
6. When it finally comes back up you might find a replacement .kext on your desktop - ignore it.
You will also find your trackpad and keyboard don't work.
7. Use another Mac (screenshare) and reinstall the MultiTouch update - it will take a while but it will work.
If you don't have another Mac, plug in a usb keyboard and mouse ( mouse first to kick off the install - then keyboard to type in password - then mouse again to complete the install)
8. The install will complete, but you will need to reboot.
9. Reboot and your keyboard, trackpad are back up and running again, and if you go to General Prefs, the trackpad pref pane is updated with all the new goodies.

MBA touchpad / Magic TrackPad

Have recently switched over to Mac and have purchased an i7 iMac and a basic MBA...one of the free downloads I have come across is Better Touch Tool which will bust wide open the capabilities of trackpads...it is a fantastic download!!!
I have Windows 7 on both of my Macs and would LOVE to have the same trackpad control while in W7 (No parallels and don't want it)...I went to the BTT download page but it appears to be for Mac only...anybody have a suggestion for a similar W7 download.
If not a software package to gain full control as BTT provides for OS-X...is there a way to adjust gestures and misc settings using the trackpad within Windows? ( I didn't see anything in the W7 Control Panel)

If you go to Bootcamp Control Panel, there are tabs for keyboard and trackpad controls. It won't give you everything, but it does allow for some of the features.

Magic Trackpad - Show Trackpad Handwriting

I just bought a Magic Trackpad for my mac mini and quickly install it without a problem.
However when I try to use the "show trackpad handwriting" by either pressing ctlshiftspace or click that on the menu bar, the "grey area" is just not showing up and therefore I cannot write any chinese characters at all. I try to install the update and restart my computer and it works again. But somehow after a while, when I press ctlshiftspace again they grey does not show up again.
Can anyone help me?

I go the same problem.....at iMac 27
Beside log off, and force quit finder.
You can alos turn off and then on the chinese input in system preference.
The chinese input box of Magic Track pad will appear again.
Wish apple can fix this......
