Magic Trackpad - Lost Connection

Whenever I wake my iMac from sleep (using my keyboard) I see a message "Lost Connection" which refers to my Magic Trackpad? Is it normal to see this error message every time you return to your computer? How do I get rid of it?

Yeah, my connection gets restored too. It's more a case of the message being annoying. I'll send some feedback to Apple, because clearly the message is redundant and pointless.

  • Magic trackpad bluetooth Connected / Connection Lost

    Hi there,
I have a Mac Pro 2010 (Not macbook pro). I use a magic trackpad alongside a wacom intuos.
My trackpad has been displaying connected / connection lost for quite some time now and its rather annoying.
This doesn't happen after sleep, not does it take 60s to kick in (like some reports I've seen). It starts immediately and continues forever.
I check back on these forums periodically to see if anyone has had my exact problem and no dice.
Here is what I have tried:
    • Reboot
    • Reset PRAM
    • Reset SMC by disconnecting power cable from tower
    • Replacing batteries, changing battery brand
    • Checking connectors for signs of corrosion on batteries and in the trackpad. (they're clean)
    • Running trackpad a friend's macbook air (it worked and maintained connection)
    • Running on another laptop on the same desk as the Mac Pro (maintained connection – ruled out local interference)
It seems to have been since Yosemite, but not instantaneously. I am loath to reinstall the OS and quite frankly have seen that this has not been a step towards fixing it for anyone!
Any new fixes anyone has, I'd love to hear them! Also my trackpad is personalised. Can i reset it? Perhaps that would fix it!
    Thanks

To uninstall Chrome was no problem because if you reinstall it you lose nothing, unlike with some apps.
But this link with Yosemite seems to go on and on and no-one has come up with an answer.  I don't think Bluetooth is the fault but it may be connected (forgive the pun) to a service or app you have.  As I said, I have neither Yosemite or Chrome so I can only offer educated guesswork rather than practical help.
This would not be a solution but if you could download and apply Etrecheck, it may show something in your system.  This link should take you there.   Then copy / paste it here in this thread.

  • Magic TrackPad wont connect in bootcamp 4. Windows asks for a pairing pin

I am running bootcamp 4 and using a 32 bit version of Windows 7. Every time I try to connect the Magic Trackpad it loads the the drivers but when I go to use the pad it says a bluetooth device is trying to connect and asks for a pairing pin. Is there an updated driver for BootCamp 4?. Magic Trackpad connected and worked flawlessly (as usual) in Mac OS X Maverick.

UPDATE: I installed Vista on Bootcamp and tried the Magic TrackPad driver. It has the same problem. I can get the device to work as advertised on the initial install and reboots in the same OS. But when you switch from Windows to Mac OS X (or vice-versa) the device will not work: in Windows is listed as paired and connected, but does not work. In Mac OS X, it will not connect automatically and does not work. If you manually try to connect the Bluetooth icon briefly shows connected and then disconnects.
I sent a bug report to Apple as a "developer" and they state that it is a known issue. I guess we simply wait for them to get around fixing the drivers at some point in the distant future. Clearly they ignore these forums altogether. The experience has left me disappointed with Apple and their slow and inadequate response to problems. I would rather they devote some resources to getting their existing products to work instead of wasting resources to add iPhone-style displays to Mac OS X. If I wanted buggy drivers and no support I should have just stayed with Windows.

  • My Magic Trackpad lost functionality with my iMac (Lion)

    Hi--
I have been using a Magic Trackpad with my iMac (Lion 10.7.5) for over a year. This morning I find that I've lost several functions, including the double-tap + drag to select text, and now the three-finger swipe registers the same as the two-finger swipe. I know the problem is the iMac and not the trackpad itself; I tried unpairing the trackpad with the iMac and pairing it with a Mini (same OS), and all of the functions are working when paired with the Mini.
Having looked for others with similar issues, I've tried the steps of zapping the PRAM, deselecting/selecting the trackpad preferences, and looking for plist preference files that look like they are trackpad related (but didn't recognize any--am I looking in the wrong place?).
FWIW I was having problems with Time Machine just a week or two ago and performed a system software reinstall from Recovery Mode, which fixed the Time Machine issues. But I believe the trackpad was working fine until this morning--at least the click-and-drag selection b/c I use that function daily.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Okay, so I think I've figured out most of this. Many thanks to jefflogullo, whose post I found my answer on. Resetting everything on Universal Access solved most of my issues with double-tapping. Why on earth did they move it out of trackpad settings?

  • Trackpad lost connection with iMac

I have just taken delivery of a "Magic" trackpad.
I seemed to get it paired with my iMac OK initially, but on a return visit it is not to be found.
I suspect that I have done something terribly stupid!
I am not quite sure if the trackpad is turned on or not.
Perhaps I am using the "On/Off' button too frequently.
I downloaded the available trackpad software and a subsequent Software Update did not offer anything extra.
Any suggestion would be gratefully accepted

I think I've figured that particular problem.
I run a copy of my OS on an external Firewire drive from which I run TechTool and Disk Warrior.
As I keep it up to date, I setup the Trackpad also on this external drive..
I read on page 4 that that one must unpair to install the trackpad on another Mac.
It would seem that the same holds through for a separate drive on the same Mac.
I removed the trackpad as a blue tooth device on the external and it would appear that all is well on the Main Drive again!
I hope this will help somebody else out!

  • Magic mouse lost connection all the time

I have an iMac for 2 years, my magic mouse always lost the connection and the battery was always fine. I thought that was normal, and then I talked with some friends and they told me that this problems did not happen with them.
So, how could I fix it?
    Thanks!

UPDATE and additional info: This problem is still occurring.
Apply have been completely unhelpful so far, after a second phone call, I was just told (again) to restart my MBP, unpair and repair my mouse, and insert fresh batteries. I've also done the SMC and PRAM resets several times.
I'm using my MBP in clamshell mode connected to a BenQ GL2460 monitor. Running my MBP slightly ajar seems to temporarily help with he mouse lagginess but the problem soon reoccurs.
I've tested my mouse on a friends earlier model non updated MBP and the mouse works fine.
I went out a bought a Microsoft USB mouse and the same lagginess happens with it, albeit a lot worse.
I'm currently running both mice connected via bluetooth, which actually seems to be minimising the magic mouse lagginess, but the Microsoft mouse is still very laggy. So I wonder what having two mice connected simultaneously is doing?

  • Magic Trackpad and Inkwell

I'm wondering why Mac OS X's built-in Inkwell (handwriting recognition) doesn't activate when Magic Trackpad is connected. Yes, I realise that originally Inkwell activates when a graphics tablet is connected, but I think the Magic Trackpad is sensitive enough to be able to do handwriting recognition. After all, it already uses OS X's Chinese handwriting recognition.
Anyone as puzzled as I am?
    (see Inkwell, http://www.apple.com/accessibility/macosx/physical.html )

Anyone as puzzled as I am?
As far as I can see there is no connection between the multitouch trackpad, either on a laptop or the new Magic one, and Inkwell. Handwriting recognition is only for Chinese (not even Japanese, much less English or any other language) and is handled by a special app. It's just not a graphics tablet as required by Inkwell.

  • Magic trackpad question

I posted this question in another section of this site and didnt get a response so I thought Id put it in another section and maybe Ill get a response this time.  Basically, my problem is after my computer goes to sleep and I click a key to wake it up my arrow is frozen and wont move, Ive checked the battery power in my trackpad and my keyboard and they both have plenty of battery power and it shows that my trackpad is connected onscreen yet my arrow still wont move.  I have to mess with turning my trackpad off and on and have to turn my computer off and on again as I have no way of clicking boxes because the arrow wont move.  This has just started happening in the past 2 or 3 days and I havent done anything out of the ordinary.  It finally comes around and starts working but I would like it to work instantly after I click a key to wake my computer up like it used to do for years before this started happening.  Could anyone help me with this and tell me why this may be happening and what I can do to fix it?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Bluetooth and 802.11b/g (sometimes n) WiFi 2.4GHz frequences.  Also on some Macs the WiFi and Bluetooth antennas are either shared or very close to each other.
So you can have interference from 2.4GHz WiFi.  You can also have interference from 2.4GHz cordless phones (yours or your close neighbors), 2.4GHz baby monitors (yours or your close neighbors), microwave ovens (which also use 2.4GHz frequencies).
As an experiment, when they happens again, turn off your Mac's WiFi (WiFi menu -> Turn Wi-Fi Off.  See if your Magic Trackpad will connect.  Then turn WiFi back on.
If you have the option of use 802.11n 5GHz only WiFi in your home, give that a try (I understand that many handheld devices often only have 2.4GHz WiFi support, so this might ONLY be an experiment).
You could try the suggestions in the following article
    <http://www.computerworld.com/article/2475598/mac-os-x/os-x-mavericks--fixing-wir eless-keyboard-mouse-connections.html>
    You could try deleting
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    reboot your Mac
Pair all your bluetooth devcies again.
Wild idea, maybe AirDrop is causing problem (not my best idea, so do not assume it will be of any use).

  • My macbook pro(Lion 10.7.2) continually lost connection with the magic mouse, which charged well.

There is something wrong with my new macbook pro MD322(Lion 10.7.2). It continually lost connection with the magic mouse. I ensure that the mouse is charged well. I also looked up the matter on Web. It looks that the matter is familiar for many users.

I have a m-audio fast track pro that I'm having a similar problem when using it with my new Macbook Air. I found changing it to 16 bit will work.
I have a Apogee iMic that works fine so my guess is we will have to wait for Avid/M-Audio to update drivers.

  • I lost the grey, round shaped rubber placed under the magic trackpad to support clicking. the rubber detached from the trackpad and lost. Where can i find the thing as i am not sure whether apple sell small spare part like this?

i had lost the grey, round shaped rubber placed under my magic trackpad. i think it detached from the trackpad body and lost. where can i get this small spare part as i couldn't find this small spare part in apple store?

Wish I could be more positive but as far as I can see, the solution is to make something for yourself and tape it on.  It appears they do not supply a proper replacement and Ifixit, the usual people say they don't have them.
Here is a company that supply rubber feet.   It may be worth contacting them and asking if they have something that will do the job.

  • Magic Trackpad won't connect to new MacBook Air

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on a new 13-in MacBook Air.  My Magic Trackpad shows up under the Bluetooth menu bar but won't connect when I click on connect. When I go to Bluetooth preferences, it doesn't appear in the list of devices and when I go to Trackpad preferences and try to set it up as a bluetooth device it also doesn't show up. I've tried turning the power off/on on the trackpad and making sure that it's discoverable. The indicator light flashes to show that's it discoverable but it just doesn't seem to be picked up by my MacBook Air. I've also tried loading fresh batteries in the trackpad but still nothing. Suggestions?

Was the trackpad connected to something else? If so, it needs to be deleted from there first.

  • Magic Trackpad stopped working, replacement won't connect

I've been using a Magic Trackpad with no problem since it was introduced 2 months ago. Last week it stopped working. Took it to the AppleStore this morning where (as on my Mac Pro) it seemed to be announcing its name but would not pair. So they replaced it with a new one.
However this will not pair either. Bluetooth preferences says there is a trackpad connected but not paired, even when the trackpad is switched off. I cannot delete the trackpad from the list to try again from scratch. Wireless keyboard and mouse are working fine.
    Any thoughts anyone?

Oops, answering my own question: restarting the Mac got rid of the spurious 'connection' and the trackpad then paired OK.

  • HT4254 Magic trackpad requires manually pushing button to connect to Win 7 partition after restart.??

Just installed win 7 through bootcamp.Magic trackpad requires me to push side button each and every time I start windows to get it to connect and use.

Try running system restore from safe mode.If it ain't working then you may only have the option of un-installing the updates which were installed by you .
    Cheers and regards,

  • Magic Trackpad Connected or Not?

Bluetooth in menubar says it's connected to "Apple Wireless Trackpad."
Trackpad preferences says "No trackpad found."
Maybe this is why I find the Magic Trackpad harder to use than the trackpad on my MacBook Air.
Had a hard time just finding the trackpad software.

When you go to System Preferences>Trackpad do you see the Magic Trackpad in the movie on the right? If so then everything is installed OK.
If you hit that "Set Up Bluetooth Trackpad.." button on the same screen you get a "No trackpad found" message. Everyone gets that. Also hitting help (?) for the first time will give you an error. I think these are both bugs.
    Your trackpad is connected.

Make sure you used good batteries, put the + side into the tube first and tap the power button once.  If you don't get a green light then it must be bad.
