Magic Wand & Eye Drop Tool

It would be nice if there could be a Magic Wand & Eye Drop Tool in the next release or next update. Like the one they have in RX2 Adavanced for Spectral Editing

The Color Corrector in FCPX is a misnomer. The color board is more about grading - not correcting.
If you can tell how the color is casting (or read the scopes) then the Color board is easy: line up the global control over the color and drag it downward (that will "subtract" the offending cast from the image.)  Or use the shadows, midtones, and highlights controls individually for those ranges.
[But I find scopes difficult to use quickly, so:]
You can also use *any* of the effects, titles, or generators that have any color parameter selection (or gradient!) as an eyedropper in a pinch. Click on the swatch for the color parameter and from the pop up dialog (color picker), use the Magnifier (top left corner) and choose any pixel on the canvas (or anywhere else for that matter.) That will give you clear indication which primary elements are "too heavy" (red, green, blue -- or any two with greater value than the minimum) Using the HSB sliders mode (second icon and last on the dropdown) will give you the degree angle (which is what the color board uses) of the hue cast and the Saturation value will give you an indication of the "magnitude" of the cast. Move the appropriate control in the color board to the Hue degree and subtract the % shown by saturation -- and you're "white balanced" (I should say: neutral.) [PS, if you're not going to be using the effect, etc -- simply disable it by clicking on the blue rectangle -- you'll still be able to use the color picker -- and whatever the effect is won't interfere with your color edits.]
If you have Motion, you can build an "eyedropper" quickly by drawing a rectangle, setting the fill opacity to 0 and publishing its fill color -- it can be an effect, a title or most easily: a generator. Titles and generators are most easily dragged around the storyline and don't become "part of" a clip.  If you don't have Motion, you can download one here: http://sight-creations.com/fxexchange/eyeDropperAssist.zip (a generator.)

  • Eye drop tool for white balance

    It has been requested an eye drop tool to correct white balance issues in color correction for a long time. Is there any news on this? Will it be a new feature in upcoming updates?
    If not... does anyone know a plugin that will do the same thing?
    Short description:
    I want to be able to select which colors are supposed to be white with an eye drop tool during color correction. This feature was available in earlier FCPs like 6 and 7. It saves tons of hours being able to auto adjust the whitebalance in post, rather than trying to match the correct color balance - dragging up and down these color circles, and then matching the color settings throughout the whole project.

  • I updated my mac's OS to Yosemite and now my eye drop tool will NOT work inside premiere pro. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

    The eyedropper tool for selecting colors to key out or to fill text will not work inside premiere pro, this error started when I updated my mac os to yosemite.

    Hi Transportation,
    Does the error occur in OS X 10.9? If not, why not remain at OS X 10.9? Is it necessary to run OS X 10.10?
    The general rule of thumb is that when you are running software that is no longer tested or supported on a new operating system, you have to prepare for anomalies like this. You may want to install a separate bootable hard drive with OS X 10.9 on it so you can continue running that software more reliably.
    Hope that helps,
    Kevin

    That's no bad thing Chuck.  It indicates that you have better things to do than constantly refresh the forum LOL.
    I'm having a wee posting spree today after lacking the inclination to respond to the same old threads for the last few days.    But I do love it when people get all in a tizzy complaining about stuff that is right under their nose (so to speak).   So I guess my criteria for responding is often based as much on how big a smile it puts on my face, as to how much I am helping the OP.   Unfortunately that irreverent approach gets me into trouble at times, and one of the moderators deleted one of my illustrated replies just a few days ago.  It took me a few minutes to work out why it had been deleted.  The subtext was 'risking one eye', and I eventually realized that the implied 'risk' could definitely be seen as offensive to some people.

  • Drag & Drop and Magic Wand and Any Selection Bug...

    Helllo,
    I am experiencing a continuous bug in Photoshop CC 2014.
    First I'm on a Mac G5 using OSX version 10.8.5.
    The bug I am experiencing is not allowing me to select anything using the Magic Wand tool or even the Arrow Selector in any layer if I drag and drop an image from the web to Photoshop.
    I have to physically click on the Mac's main background window outside of Photoshop and then click back to Photoshop to get it to work.
    Thanks,
    JW

    I am guessing you are using an ImageIcon to put the image into the JLabel. I would suggest creating your own version of "ImageIcon". In the interface Icon, the paintIcon method gives you access to the component which is your JLabel. You can get the size of this and draw the image to fit the components size. getIconHeight/Width() should work ok if you just return the initial size that you want the icon to be.
    Another option is to extend JPanel and override its paint method. This would give you direct acces to paint whatever you want, and you can resize your image accordingly when the size changes.
    As far as the flashing goes, you might want to post code (use [ code ] [ / code] tags). There might be something there that someone will see.

  • Magic wand tool?

    Hi guys/gals.  I was just wondering if there is an easier way to remove a person from a picture.  I've read some tutorials on the web and they all pretty much consist of using the magic wand tool.  However I find it's kind of hard to use.  It only selects tiny pieces of the image at a time.  I can get it to cover some part of the image I want to keep but not all.  I was hoping i could select all of the picture I want to keep then inverse and delete.  Anyone know a quick way of doing this?  I took a screenshot of what happens when I select the magic wand tool.

    You can select the portion that you want to keep then inverse and delete.  Select -> Inverse, will select the inverse then hit the Delete key.  You may need to do this first:
    Image -> Image Size, then memorize the size of the picture.
    File -> New, and open a new transparent work area (RGB color mode) the same size as the original.
    Select the Move tool and drag and drop the picture onto the work  area.
    Select the portion of the picture you want to keep.
    Select -> Inverse.
    Hit the Delete key.
    That will work.  I do it all the time.

  • Flash Professional CC Magic Wand Tool not working

    Simple problem. The magic wand tool wont select anything. There is a little "STOP/NO" on the icon though (The circle with a cross through it). Don't know what's wrong.

    Not supported? Are you kidding me?!?I
    I have a Wacom Intuos5 Touch and use a Wacom mouse with it (in addition to the standard Grip Pen). My problem is worse than the original poster. I have this problem with both my pen and my mouse. The pen is in "pen mode" and the mouse is in "mouse mode," but the problem exists in both modes for both input devices (yes, I tested my mouse in "pen mode," it's not something I'd recommend).
    I have no idea what to do about this. I work in 2D film/TV animation, and this renders Flash CC 2014 completely useless to me and my colleagues.
    These were "drawn" with a mouse in mouse mode, and a pen in pen mode. The angle and offset of the error seems to depend on the canvas zoom level, but is otherwise random-ish, changing to a random angle, keeping it for a while, then changing it again. I run a multi-monitor setup, and when I move the Flash window from the right-side monitor to the left-side monitor, the direction of the offset flops. It always points up, and toward the center of my two monitors, as if it were a application scaling problem (Windows' DPI settings have been known to cause this kind of problem with some applications, but my setup uses 100% scaling so that shouldn't apply).
    I suspected that the angle might have something to do with the rotation angle of my mouse (the Wacom tablet tracks that information), but couldn't get reliable expected behavior when I tested it out.
    This whole nonsense reminds me of an error that plagued applications built using the Qt4 framework (such as the VLC video player), which had similar "hit area" problems for Wacom devices (pen and mouse) due to an improperly implemented pen input API (it was fixed in Qt5 by dropping support altogether and treating all input devices as mouse input), but I can't imagine that's what's happening here.
    Of course, Flash is registering the initial contact point before flinging it across the screen, so it's a big mystery, and frustrating me to no end.

  • How to do a magic wand tool like photoshop with java?

    maybe it is not a feasible way!
    i have loading a image size of 150*50,
    when i use getPixelColor() method as follow,it used almost 40 seconds to end it.it get correct info of every pixels,but too slow. say nothing of analysis the pixels and catch a selection.
    //*******the getPixelColor() method**********//
    public String getPixelColor(BufferedImage bimg){
    String info=new String();
    for(int i=0;i<bimg.getWidth();i++)
    for(int j=0;j<bimg.getHeight();j++){
    int rgb=bimg.getRGB(i,j);
    int red=(rgb>>24)&0xff;
    int green=(rgb>>16)&0xff;
    int blue=(rgb>>8)&0xff;
    info=info+"R:"+red+" G:"+green+" B:"+blue+" X:"+i+" Y:"+j+"\n";
    return info;
    //****end *****//
    then invoke method:
    System.out.println(getPixelColor(myimg));

  • Cannot find the Quick Selection Tool (previously paired with the magic wand tool) on Illustrator CC (newest version installed on October 14, 2014)

    I have just installed a new version of Illustrator CC and CS6 on October 14, 2014 and I couldn't find the Quick Selection Tool on this version, previously this tool is located with the magic wand tool

    I don't remember a quick selection tool in Illustrator. Are you sure this was in Illustrator?

  • Is the magic wand tool the best tool for cutting out a person's head?

    Need advice! The picture is of a girl with her hair blowing in the wind, so I'm not sure about using the magic wand tool.

    I guess we should ask what version of Photoshop the OP is using.
    One could arge that the OP should have provided that information by themselves and, if not, kind of deserves potentially being confused by having functionality presented that may not be part of their set-up …
    Edit: But in all fairness I suspect I may have omitted such information myself when I first started asking questions on this Forum.
    Not to mention that it seems somewhat remarkable howt many people seem to prefer talking about specific images to simply posting them (or lores or section of them) – which would make assessing the tasks in question often a lot easier.

  • How to shift selection of magic wand tool by 2 pixels to take the edges off?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to make a selection with the magic wand tool and shift the selection edges by a pixel or two, but the 'refine edge' button doesn't seem to do anything.  I want to cut a pixel off all the outer edge of an image I have cut out of another picture.  Any help would be great thank you.

    Depending on whether you have selected the image or the background, use  Select > Modify > Expand Selection, or Select > Modify > Contract Selection

  • How to unselect magic wand tool to select another area?

    This is so silly but it is driving me nuts.  I used to be able to select an area with the Magic Wand tool and then when I was done, click on something else and it would "deselect."  But now it doesn't do that anymore.  Did I change a setting somehow by accident or did they do an update that changed that?  I hate having to do Ctrl D to deselect it when I used to just click on something else.

    Thanks for your help.  I actually checked on the icons where you mentioned and the one I wanted was the "new selection box"  I had "add to selection" checked and so it wouldn't unselect when I went to new area.  So your answers helped!  Thanks so much.

  • Magic Wand Selection Tool Fails to Operate on Precise Pixel Color

    I had an interesting thing happen with Photoshop CS5...  My Magic Wand tool got to where it wasn't selecting pixel colors based on the one under the tip of the tool when clicked.  It was selecting what seemed like similar colors, but its operation wasn't really predictable.
    It turns out that in a prior unrelated operation (days ago) I had changed the color picker to look at a very large number of pixels when sampling.
    Having chosen the above, the setting was sticky and modal (meaning it subsequently affected samples taken from then on by a variety of tools).
    I didn't think that this should affect subsequent samples taken with the Magic Wand tool.  I'm not sure this has always been the case, but it doesn't seem as though it should work this way.
    Notably I don't see any way, while the Magic Wand tool is active, that the above sample size can be changed.  Nor did Resetting the Magic Wand tool correct the situation.
    Should the previously selected color picker sample size actually affect the Magic Wand tool, or is this a case where someone at Adobe consolidated the pixel sampling logic a bit too aggressively?
    If the latter, here's an adage to post in the halls of Adobe Engineering:  "Make everything as simple as possible, but no simpler."

    Hm, appears to be an old issue:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/3226358
    What I can't fathom is that it's never bitten me before.  I do tend to leave the eyedropper on 1 x 1 pixels, but I occasionally do sample larger regions.

  • What is wrong with my magic wand tool?

    I just started loading up photoshop to crop a picture and my magic wand tool has gone all funny.  i don't know why but instead of cropping all the white back ground it does this http://imgur.com/oDTxXyK
    someone please help me!

    Look at the tool options. You set the tolerance to 200, so it's going to select just about everything...
    Also, "crop" is not the right word there.  I think you meant "select".

  • Coloring issues with magic wand tool and paint bucket tool, leaves uncolored areas near drawn lines

    Photoshop CS6 doesn't color properly.  Whetever I use brush tool or elliptical marquee tool to do the lines (with brush tool I use Hard Round, not soft), it doesn't color the whole area when i fill them with color. This happens with both magic wand tool AND paint bucket tool, there is always a small uncolored area near the lines. I have tolerance on 30,  and anti-alias, contiguous and sample all layers boxes checked. (this setting worked on my old CS3) I have tried tolerance from 0 to 100, no difference. I have also tried unchecking the boxes I just mentioned, still no difference. I hope there is a solution for this, because it is tedious to always go to the Select - Modify - Expand every time I need to color some area. So how do I fix this problem? I use seperate layers for lines and colors, like I have always done with other Photoshop versions. Even in school where they have CS5 those normal settings work.

    Hello Chris,
    I don't think this is a "user error". I think Adobe should be able to program a state of the art paint bucket, which is capable to get this done right.
    Other applications are able to get this done right.
    Please don't fall into a programmer's ignorance ("this is done right by definition") but listen to us artists and improve this unintuitive behavior. Add something like "ignore transparent pixels", because this doesn't even work if you draw on an empty layer.
    Thank you!
