Magic Wand Missing

I have seen several posts with the exact same question. The answer is a screenshot of the Quick Selection Tool pullout with the Magic Wand showing below.
On my system, when you click on the Quick Selection tool there is no pullout. None of the icons on the left with the little white corner pull out.
I cleared out my Preferences. No Joy. Uninstalled and reinstalled the program. No Joy. I can't figure out what happened to it.
Thank you for your time and assistance,
John

I was reading other posts and someone mentioned SHIFT-W. I had been pressing W. The Magic Wand Magically appeared.
Problem solved!!!

  • How do I make a brush signature when the tool bar is missing the magic wand tool?

I am missing the magic wand tool from the tool bar on the left of cc.  How do I retrieve it or is it completely missing from the photoshop cc download?  I need it to make a brush signature for signing photos.

    Hi,
Most likely the magic wand tool is not missing.
The Magic Wand Tool is grouped with the Quick Selection Tool in the tool box

  • Photoshop CC missing Magic Wand Tool

Hello! I've got the new Adobe Creative Suite for Student and am working with Photoshop CC at the minute but cannot find the Magic Wand Tool anywhere... is it not in this version, or is it hiding somewhere... can't locate it. Please help?

  • How to use Magic Wand to select in Active Artboard only - CS5

I've run into a problem that I would think already has a solution. I have a layout with 7 artboards, each a variation on a logo design. I want to select a specific color, but only in the active artboard. The Magic Wand would seem to be the right choice, but I see no way of specifying this. Every attempt I make, the color is selected in every artboard that it exists. I know that Select All can narrow its scope to the active artboard by adding the option key to the command but see no equivalent for the Magic Wand. Am I missing something or is Illustrator missing the ability?

Use locking or hiding to make you selection.
Draw a frame around the elements on one artbaord
    Select >> Inverse
    Object >> Lock
(use your magic wand and make your change)
    Object unlock all

  • Magic wand no right click (pc) menu

magic wand tool no longer has the right click (pc) sub menu, i have to change to the quick selection tool in order to acess the sub menu to deselect or layer via copy etc? is anyone else having the same issue?

Did you upgrade to Ps CC 14.2? I can confirm that the right click context menu does not appear with the magic wand tool on Windows 7 64-bit with the latest upgrade. There may be other surprises.
Another posting here also complains about right clicks missing context menus. More confirmed right click context menu issues on Windows here.
(Advice to the wise and wary: never be the first to upgrade; let others find the bugs.)

  • Content Aware with Magic Wand¿

I used to fill in gaps of missing Panos with content aware in CS5 using the magic wand and fill - content aware. In CS6 it fills it in with the foreground color. The only way I can get the content aware to work is if I make the selection with the lasso tool. The quick Sslection tool will not even select the area without pixels. Anyone else had this issue¿

Thank you for the reply. Yes I selected the content aware option in the drop down; I have been using the content aware to fill in gaps in panos for a long time now. The issue is in the CS6 Beta when I use the magic wand to select the empty pixels, and there are a lot in places, it will only fill it with a solid color. Also the quick select tool will not even select empty pixels. The pano I have isn't that large, 35090 px by 3490 px, not near the type of panos Ben Willmore does for example. I just wondered if anyone else has this issue and if so is there a fix.

  • Magic wand selection tool misbehaving

Help..  I've been having this problem almost everytime I use Photoshop CS5 and previously with CS4. (never a problem with CS or CS2). When trying to make selections based on color or contrast with the "magic wand" tool, I find it develops totally erratic behavior.  Even setting a tolerance of 1 or 3 (feather = 0), for instance, might select large areas or completely different tonality.
I end up making my masks (selections) either manually or by using a combination of tools like the magnetic lasso.  This is causing me to waste a lot of time.  If anyone has a clue, please let me know.
My system is an otherwise robust 64bit WIn-7, Xeon CPU, 18GB Ram.
    Thanks in advance,
    Doug A

    C.P.
Thanks for your response.  This is just a single layer (16bit). The tool option bar is adjacent to selection areas in question to the left. Am I missing something here? To add or select areas, I usually use the shift or alt key.

  • Magic Wand problem in PSE 8 - unexplained gaps in selection

    Hello,
it seems that recently when I select an area of a shot using Magic Wand (MW) and create a Layer with the selection, there are unaccountable partially missing "see through" bits where I can see some of the check fill pattern through the selected area.
I have been using PSE 8 for a few months and I have never noticed this before but perhaps I was not looking hard enough. MW also seems to be using tolerance settings a bit differently but that is not easy to demonstrate - it just seems that with a given tolerance it takes a lot more Shift-clicks to eliminate spots inside the desired area and still some remain, though feathering seems to clear them away. I often select an area by building it up with a lot of Shift-clicks and usually decreasing tolerance values as I go, also using Alt-clicks to remove unwanted inclusion. Until now once all the "ants" were eliminated from inside the desired area I could then feather it and with Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V achieve a layer with no discernible holes. (I usually feather with Refine Edge rather than the Feather option because that way there is no fade off where the edge of the shot is selected.)
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these gaps?
    Thank you,
    Nick Sergeant

    Thanks, Terri_F and hatstead,
following your suggestions I have just experimented with all six combinations of Eyedropper (ED) and Magic Wand (MW)
ED = Point Sample, MW with/without contiguous checked
ED = 3 by 3 Average, MW with/without contiguous checked
ED = 5 by 5 Average, MW with/without contiguous checked
These setting do make a difference but the MW select is always leaving out at least a few stray pixels. But the problem is not a show-stopper as I may have a work-around (below)
I think ED= 5 by 5 with MW contiguous was the most reliable for picking up almost all of a clearly isolated area of colour. Even that setting leaves some stray pixels out for some reason but nothing serious. All other settings seem to leave holes in the area selected despite no sign of them during the selecting.
I ran some settings more than once and despite this systematic approach it seems I can never get quite the same result twice. I'd expect the edge of the selected area to fluctuate a bit each time, but I also still get little few-pixels-sized holes well inside the area seIected, which spread out of course if I feather.
I think what I am seeing looks worse than it really is because tiny groups of a few pixels each left out of the select will expand when feathered and be quite an eye-sore. So from now on in these cases, if necessary I may work-around by Select > Modify > Expand for one or two pixels in order to capture stray pixels, and then feather. I tried it once and it seemed to capture all the stray pixels without compromising the select outline too much.
    Thanks for your help,
    Nick

  • Adobe PSE 5.0 Control X , Magic Wand, Lasso Trouble

I have Windows XP. When editting a photo, I suddenly can no longer undo a task using only "Ctrl X" on a photo in the Editor workspace. It shows it is undoing the task in the photo bin photo and in "Undo History". Now, the only way for me to undo a task is to press "Ctrl X" and then "Enter", or use the mouse to click on the "Undo History" taskpane. How do I get back to having to use only "Ctrl X" to undo? Also, the Magic Wand and lassos do not have 'marching ants'. They seem to be 'frozen' when I use them. Would someone help me with this, please?

Thanks, Barbara! It works again! Also, it 'reloaded' my missing "Artworks and Effects", which would have been my next question. Your instructions were clear and the key word which shed light on the subject was "it"...referring to the editor. I had been quitting and starting up the whole Adobe PSE 5.0 program, using those keys during start-up, only to find a list of catalogs.
    Thanks for your quick response!

  • Refining white on white selection with magic wand

I'm trying to remove the background from a BW image - a model posing in front of a white background.
Selecting using the magic wand works fine except on the area where the light on the model fades skin to white. When I select, I get the hand and lower part of the arm (see below) but miss the upper, whiter area completely. I've tried all sorts of settings and also tried increasing the contrast using a brightness/contrast layer, but nothing I I can figure out allows me to keep the arm and remove the background while keeping the arm.  FWIW, the picture can't be reshot.
How do I do it? Thanks for any help.
    EdB

Instead of trying to do a completely automated selection, try using the Polygonal Lasso Tool.  It will allow you to select the edge of the arm where you feel it should be.
If you want nice smooth curves, consider drawing a path around the edge of the arm with the Pen tool.  The advantage is that it allows you to adjust the path by altering points and bezier handles.  You can then use that path to create a vector mask, or convert it to a selection and delete.

  • Problems removing background with Magic wand and then brush tool

I use Paint Shop Elements (version 13) to remove background from images to then use in PowerPoint. So I ensure the image is on a proper layer (say Layer 0).  I then create a mask.  If there are large areas of unwanted background I use the Magic Wand to highlight them.  I then use the Fill Tool with the 'black'/remove pixels leave transparent on these areas.  HOWEVER if I then try to use the Brush Tool with the remove/transparent 'black' setting to say tidy up the image, the brush tool will not respond!  I then find I have to save the Photoshop file and re-open it before I can use the brush tool.  I suspect I am missing a step, but I am fairly new to Photoshop Elements.

I don't know where this "tutorial" came from, but obviously it does not work for you. Try the following in PSE Expert tab:
    Have the Layers palette open
    Open the picture file
Double click the background layer in order to convert it from a locked layer to a regular layer. It is now Layer 0.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the foreground
    Go to Select>Inverse
    Hit delete on the keyboard
Press CTRL+D to get rid of the marching ants
Use the eraser tool to tidy up
Go to File>save as, and save in a file format which supports transparency - PNG is ok
Import the processed file in to PowerPoint.

There is no way to downgrade to a different iOS. Apple does not support downgrading. See this link regarding speeding up the iPhone 4. http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/

I have just installed a new version of Illustrator CC and CS6 on October 14, 2014 and I couldn't find the Quick Selection Tool on this version, previously this tool is located with the magic wand tool

  • Is the magic wand tool the best tool for cutting out a person's head?

Need advice! The picture is of a girl with her hair blowing in the wind, so I'm not sure about using the magic wand tool.

I guess we should ask what version of Photoshop the OP is using.
One could arge that the OP should have provided that information by themselves and, if not, kind of deserves potentially being confused by having functionality presented that may not be part of their set-up …
Edit: But in all fairness I suspect I may have omitted such information myself when I first started asking questions on this Forum.
Not to mention that it seems somewhat remarkable howt many people seem to prefer talking about specific images to simply posting them (or lores or section of them) – which would make assessing the tasks in question often a lot easier.
