Magsafe Board Relevant to Power up just with the battery?

I've got a MBP (A1278) that basically won't start up at all, with no sounds or lights coming on.
I've tried resetting the SMC, reseating the RAM etc..
I attached the power supply as it's been sitting around for a while & the light on the magnetic bit went to a bright green and the battery started charging as I kept checking that the little lights on the laptop side was increasing over an hour or so until I presume the battery was charged.
It's still dead though, whether I try powering it up with just the charger (battery physically removed), just the battery or both.
I'm wondering if changing the internal magsafe board (that fixes to the motherboard) may help or is that not relevant as starting on just the (charged) battery should bypass that anyway??????????

Hi. Yes,if your battery is charged at all, it should start on that alone. Normally when the mag safe is plugged in and is charging a battery that is low  the mag safe light goes from green to amber. Try a SMC reset without removing the battery or mag safe. Command/Option/Shift and power button for 10 seconds. Can you get any boot chime? After pushing the power button do you see a light on the front (the sleep light) come on at all. Even for a second.Has this MBP been sitting for a while? Push the power button down repeatedly   and see it anything happens.

  • Is my MBP broken forever? It won't charge or power on even with the battery unplugged

    Hello,
My 2011 MacBook Pro has completely died.
Around a month ago I set it down (carefully), it made a clicking noise and would not turn on. The charger light was still green but would not power back up. I unplugged the battery and it was working fine with the charger alone so I presume that the battery was the problem but did not buy a battery as I had no money/apple appointments are apparently like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Then I was using it, moved it slightly and it turned off again, would power up but only when the charger was plugged in without pressing the power button AND with the screen closed. It did this a few times and then will no longer charge or turn on. The charger shows no light. I do carry it around quite a lot for my job but it hasn't received any damage in the time it has been broken.
this also happens after I had cleaned the MacBook down and installed Yosemite.
Is it a write off or just the battery?

    Try a SMC reset:

I found that the screen won't wake up if only the thunderbolt connection is plugged. Is this normal ?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,

Is anyone having problems with the battery heating up and draining the power?  Mine has been doing this for about 2 months now.

This is a major problem with Lollipop, but yo said it started 2 months ago.   Several people have fixed problem by removing FaceBook And Face book messenger and then re loading the apps again.   You might want to clear your cache before reloading.  Not sure this is your problem, but worth a try.  Good Luck

  • Do both of Apple Store's iPod power adaptors work with the new Touch 2G?

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Looking to to get an Apple USB power adaptor for the iPod Touch 2G.
In the Apple Store, two are listed, one smaller (and newer) than the other. In the newer one, the prongs are not retractable; in the larger (older) one, they are.
    1. Does anyone know if the larger (and older) power adaptor works with the iPod Touch 2G USB-only interface?
    2. I know that many power adaptors and speakers and car adaptor sets, etc. in the past had a combo Firewire/ USB power interface. That is why the new iPod Touch 2G (or iPhone 3G) does not charge up or power up with these speakers and chargers, etc. (Speakers such as the original Bose Sound Dock).
    3. Is it true that the older (larger) power adaptor works better in all kinds of power situations (different outlets, etc. in different countries); that the older (larger) power adaptor is more travel-versatile? The Apple store perhaps notes a difference, noting that the newer power adaptor works only with USA-style outlets. I see no such note with the older adaptor.
    4. Finally, does anyone know of a USB-only interface that would work with the iPod Touch 2G that is not Apple's (and perhaps not as insanely priced)?

    Many thanks for further clarifying.
I don't know 100% for sure that the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch is different than the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch 2G.
    But:
I have read (somewhere) that the tiny pin connectors are different. That is why an iPod Touch 1G could be charged by (for example) a Logitech mm50 Speaker set and an iPod Touch 2G cannot.
An iPod Touch 2G can still connect to the Logitech mm50 Speaker set. It will still play and you will hear music. But it is no longer charging. And I have read of iPod Touch 2Gs getting very hot in these cradles. That can't be good for the poor iPod in the long run.
So for the Apple USB power adaptors to work, (which both came out before the iPod Touch 2G), they must have some override or blocked pin if they can work with both generations of iPod Touches.

My iPad Air when charging cuts in and out, also the charger is extremely hot. Have tried different chargers with and power outlets, all with the same outcome.

The troubling thing to me is the fact that the charger gets extremely hot - according to what you are saying. The charger can get warm and can get fairly warm when the iPad is charging, but it should never get extremely hot. Make an appointment at an Apple Store, take the iPad, the cable and the charger with you and ask them to look at everything for you.

I have a Macbook 2.1 that runs 10.5.8.   I cannot get it to start on battery power. It will run for over an hour on the battery, if you start it with the charger, but even then it shows a 0% charge! I've tried pulling the battery out while it's booted, pulling battery out and discharging the system by holding the power switch, nothing seems to make it work. any ideas? It has all the updates Apple offers, too.

    Try resetting the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections. If it still won't start, remove the battery and start with just the AC power. Next try without the AC power and just the battery.

  • Problems with the battery

    Dear Apple Support Team,
My name is Irene Yankelevich and I come from Belarus. I am writing to you to tell the long story of my sufferings with the MacBook that I have purchased while in the US last year. I sincerely hope that there is something that could be done in order to rid me of the constant disappointments with using this computer.
Let me start with a short preface, so as you, too, could understand the reasons for my inner frustration and helplessness.
I have already mentioned that I was in the US last summer (2006) on Work&Travel exchange program. I worked hard all summer, and by the end of my stay I could finally afford a laptop computer of which I dreamt night and day for the last year. I spent 2 months trying to make a decision as to what computer I should pick out, and decided to go with MacBook. It appealed to me with its design and looks, as well as the operating system. I must stress at this point that my only concern at the time was the fact that if there are any repairs needed in the future, it will be quite difficult to get the computer fixed in Belarus. However, I trusted the brand name and some of the reviews on the Web and believed that the issue will never arise anyway, so I shouldn't worry. But...
It all started in December 2006, when I was on my way to Poland. I was watching movies on the train, so my battery went completely dead. It took me some 8 hrs to get to the first power plug and feed my 'hungry baby', but how much was I surprised and shocked to see that first of all the indicator light went green instead of orange and the battery indicator looked like a black cross, saying that there are no batteries detected (see the attachments for a vivid explanation 'indic_light' and battery'). I am sure you have heard the story before, so I will not go into more detail on the looks of things. I then went ahead and googled the problem. To my greatest grief and disappointment I found out that there were lots of others like me, and all of them claimed that the only solution was to get a battery replacement. I could do it for free if I were in the STates, but I wasn't. So I saved some money and ordered a new battery through my host family in the Stated. It took another month and a half for it to get to Belarus, but it finally did. I was happier than ever, read the instructions and inserted the new battery. But oh BUMMER!!! the computer wouldn;t even turn on.
I was frustrated even more than before, because now it occurred to me that my problem could be different from that of everyone else. I researched more and found out that there is a company claiming that they are a certified Apple center in Belarus, called Beliy Terem. I called them up, set up an appointment and brought my computer there hoping to get some advice. My laptop is still in its warranty period, so they agreed to examine it for free, but asked me to leave it for a day. It was probably the longest day in my life, but I managed to survive and came back to get my laptop back fixed. It was only then that I discovered they could not do anything, They claim to have tested both the batteries, and they were both defective. I asked them wether they tried to put other batteries (for sure working) into my computer, but they said it was too risky. Therefore, there was no guarantee whatsoever that the problem really was not inside the computer itself. They also offered to deal with the battery exchange (saying that it would take half a year to get the new ones), or to break the warranty period by taking the computer apart. I wasn't ready for any of these, and decided to take the computer home.
It has been 3 and a half month since my computer is not working without a power plug, which is pretty problematic for my lifestyle. I have no idea what to do or where to go, and to tell you the truth am a little disappointed in the way things have been working out for me and my Apple friend..
There are 2 more issues. I never dropped the MacBook or hit it or anything of a kind. But for some reason two cracks appeared on it. I am attaching a picture of those as well.
I am returning to the States in early July for a week. Is there something you could do to get my faith in Apple back? It is still on warranty ( I purchased it in early August)
Hoping to hear from you soon,
    Irene Yankelevich

  • Very frustrated with the battery exchange program

I'm very frustrated with the battery exchange program. I signed up online, double checked all my information, and submitted. No where on the page did it say that a signature would be required upon delivery. I work during the day, so I'm not home to receive shipments (any package I do receive is just left in the lobby, and it's always been fine--I live in a secure building).
DHL is refusing to leave the package at the door. Apple refuses to tell DHL that it's ok to redirect the package to my place of employment. My only option, it seems, is to spend almost two hours of my time driving to the DHL location and back (the pickup location isn't even in the same county I live in).
If anyone has any better ideas, I would love to hear it.
    Thanks,
    Andrea

If your battery was stolen after it was delivered, I'd bet you'd really get upset. If DHL is anything like UPS, you can sign the receipt telling them to leave the package. Pretty simple.

What is your brightness setting & how many apps are open?
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
