This really is an issue relating to your MacBookPro and not a fault with Snow Leopard. Try a new post in the MacBookPro power and batteries forum.

  • Computer Shutting Down and Magsafe not working?

Hey guys my computer is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) and i have had Magsafe issues with it since 6 months after i bought it. I had it sent in to apple and they said that they had replaced the magsafe within the computer (i am assuming that they replaced the magsafe board). Recently my computer has not been recognizing any connection when the magsafe is plugged in. No lights and the battery will not charge. It takes several tries +20 to get it to recognize the magsafe and start charging. The adapter is NOT the problem and neither is the battery. I have also already performed a System Management Controller reset (SMC) as the symptoms seemed to follow this common problem. This has not fixed it. Now my computer is shutting down randomly (it seems to do this when under light to medium cpu load or when moving) however, this is hard to tell as it has only happened three times. The computer only seems to shut down when the magsafe is connected and recognized (either red or green light). When it shuts down i can hear the HDD needle "park" rather abruptly/loud as an audible CLICK can be heard. Upon reboot, the computer will again refuse to recognize that the magsafe is plugged in. Again, no lights on the magsafe connector, and the battery will not charge. This issue could brick my macbook unless i fix it soon. Please any help??? I really hope that nothing is wrong with the logicboard as they can run upwards of $600 to replace. PLEASE HELP MEH!!!
Some additional background: I had sent in my macbook to apple 3 times already through futureshop while under warranty. The problem was that the magsafe only seemed to work while plugged in with the cord running away from the user. They sent it back twice while only swapping chargers... of which i knew there was no issue with. The same magsafe problem was there. The third time is when they finally swapped out the magsafe in the computer. My one year warranty is now over and it has been about 8 months since i got my computer back since being repaired last time. I have no applecare warranty. Is there any way that this could be fixed under warranty??? Is there some kind of apple replacement warranty if something has been sent in so many times with the same problem??? Thanks and sorry for so much writing...

    Hi there
I just posted a quite similar issue today.
My solution was to simply run Disc utility and see whether it finds any problems/errors. It did find an error and after booting to Recovery partition and running Disc utility from there, I let it repair the volume.
Until now, no more random crashes on moving.
    Hope this helps you too

  • Magsafe Charger not charging - when it lights up may not work

I started experiencing this a few weeks ago. Since then I have gone through 2 adapters.
The magnet works and everything, but it doesnt light up, and where that battery is up there it doesn't show any signs of recognition.
I have to wiggle it a little bit and apply some pressure to get it working.
Even then, it still sometimes doesn't work. It'll be green and say "Not Charging".
It doesn't always do that though. Sometimes it will charge. I have a new battery (from around christmas time) so it cant be the battery... i wouldn't think anyways.
Another thing, is when I get it charging, I have to lay it perfectly still. One little tiny bump or something will cause the light to go off and stop charging. I've cleaned the magsafe part and the part it lpugs into the computer. I have the same problem.

I had the same pin problem as many here. My neutral pin (outer most) stop pushing out, I can turn the plug upside down and the pin falls into place. Take a bit of wiggling to get it to charge the computer. This is a new magsafe, only 4 weeks old. I had to have my other one replaced because the exact same pin did the exact same thing again.

  • My MagSafe Charger / Power Supply is not working

I am using mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro with 85W MagSafe  . My operating system is Lion 10.7.4.
I heard a "click" coming from the direction of where my charger and just before and now its not working.
The light is not coming on the charger itself
No power is shown be coming into the computer on the Desktop toolbar either, nor does my computer that there's a charger plugged in.
I have tried the charger in a number of the different sockets around the apartment and still no joy
    The transformer "block" is cold
Could this be a s simple as a blown fuse in the plug or something else altogether?
I need to fix this asap. No power = no computer. All help much appreciated.

I've copy and paste info from under AC. The MagSafe charger is physically connected, the report says that is not connected and not charging.
Any tips on where I can get cheap new Apple charger (60W MagSafe)?  Thanks to you

  • MagSafe Adaptor works on MacBook Pro but not MacBook

I have a MagSafe 60 Watt adaptor that will not work on any of our 1 year old Black MacBooks but will work on my MacBook Pro 17" and my other workers 15" MacBook Pro. Has anybody ever had this happen? I have tried it on at least 8 MacBooks and no go. Thanks, Billy

Have discovered that the MagSafe adaptor also works on a white, but will not work on a Black MacBook. Apple replaced it but it still puzzles me.

  • Charging problems Macbook Pro 13 not MagSafe related + isight not working

Having weird problems with my MacBook Pro 13 (MacBookPro5,5).  I bought this needing repair and replaced the LCD, the LCD Glass, the Camera/mic cable, and bought a used battery because the old one showed "Service Now".  Just when I thought putting all this work in would get me going, I ran into two different problems that are driving me crazy.
The battery will not charge with any magsafe attached (I have quite a few).  The only way I can get it to finally charge is to remove the bottom cover, unplug the battery, and use a new, l-shape 85W Power supply to get it to charge again,  It charges ONLY until I remove it.  Once I remove the power suppy...even for a second, I will not light up again and it will go on battery power until it disappates (then I start all over ).  I've tried every reset in the book, so it has nothing to do with the PMR or SMC (or however they are named).  Also, before anyone asks...the old "Service Now" battery behaves exactly the same way .
The isight camera STILL does not work, even with the new cable.  Furthermore, I had another cover for the same unit with a camera in it and its own cable and tried to use the camera with that setup, and it still did not work.  My guess is there is either an issue with logic board or the cable connector on the logic board.
The Apple Hardware test passes perfectly every time I run it (quick and extended). Disk is fine...checked it with drive genius and disk drill.  I am open to suggestions if anyone has them.  I'm guessing this is out of warantee, nor was I the original owner.   Anyone have any ideas?  Open to anything at this point.

The DC-In board doesn't look like much (I'm looking at http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-MagSafe-DC-In-Bo ard/IF163-011 -- the zoomed in version). There's hardly any intelligence on there (in the form of an IC). I'd rather expect this to be something on the logic board, but you could test it with a multimeter, see if there's still a voltage measurable after reconnecting the magsafe.

  • Magsafe not charging, no led

    Hi,
My magsave cord broke, I worked till batterie 0%. Bought a new Magsafe.
But now the magsafe is not charging and the led light wont shine orange or green.
I did a smc reset, a pram reset, took the batterie out and push the button till it went off. Tried SMC 1.4 update but stated not needed.
Cleaned the connector pins on the mbp with alcohol.
So i figured the magsafe does not work, took the old broken one apart and fixed the cable. Gives power again, but also no light and no charging.
The batterie looks fine, apart from empty:

    PS:
    I have a Macbook Pro 17 inch, late 2008 (?) 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo
    Osx 10.5.8

If I've understood correctly, you still don't know whether either of your adapters is working properly. Test them both with the 15" MBP you mentioned and see whether they work. If either one does, but it doesn't when you test it with the 17" machine and its new battery, then the logical conclusion is that there's a problem with the charging circuitry in the MBP -- subject, of course, to confirmation of the presumption that the new battery is actually good. You may have to visit a Genius Bar or authorized service provider to get that confirmation and have everything tested conclusively.

Macbook Air Late 2010 model, 10.6.7, 2.13 4g ram. Trackpad is not working properly and in sometimes not at all. Need suggestions to resolve this issue?  I have applied all Mac updates and still having problems with the trackpad.

The machine has a 1 year warranty, book an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at.
You can try doing a SMC reset however I don't think that is the solution.
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-• Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

I am having MacBook Pro 3 yrs old and today while I was watching some movie on it suddenly it got power off and when I am trying to start it, it's power button is not working even the round button on external left side is not showing battery lights. But when I connect it to chrger then Charger only gives green light and even the external round button only shown 4 green lights (if charger connected). I don't know what to do now

Sounds like you need a #1SMC Reset
    1. SMC reset

Disconnect other non-Apple and external hardware except (if applicable) a mouse and keyboard until your finished repairing your machine.
Problems solved: Fans blowing with no activity, machine is not booting, power button pressed and nothing happens, problems with indicators, Magsafe has wrong lights, battery is not charging, monitor and graphics issues etc.  If the battery is not charged (from like letting it sleep too long), let the Mac charge up awhile afterwards.
Will not hurt the machine resetting if it's not broken.
    Other related hardware problems (optional):
Check battery status: Hold option/alt key down while clicking on the battery icon in the menu bar, top right corner.
Magsafe: Use the correct/matching power supply charger with your Mac, not a less powered one from another Mac.

  • Macbook adapter not working

    Hi Apple Experts,
My Macbook Pro laptop charger stopped working after it was lying on the floor and my room filled with water due to water logging in the pipes in the bathroom adjacent to my room.
I tried drying the charger with a hair dryer but it is not working even after that.
Is there any way I can fix this? I have my study material in my MacBook and I have my exams tomorrow. If I dont get this going, I will fail in my exams.
Please suggest how can I get it going?

  • AC adapter light not working

When charging my Macbook Pro sometimes the indicator LED light doesn't come on at all.  Everytime I checked when the LED isn't working the computer still charges, but I am not sure if when I leave it sometimes if it is charging correctly since the LED doesn't work periodically.  I am also wondering if this is an issue with the adapter, rather then the actual computer port.  If it is the computer port I don't feel comfortable with sending it out for repairs if its just a small issue.  I guess what I am trying to see is if anyone else has experienced this issue.  I would much rather go to the apple store and recieve a new adapter, and if the issue persists I can send it in for repairs.  Please if anyone has experience with the same trouble I have had let me know.  Thank you in advance.
    -Andrew

May be the adapter is not working properly.
Take the MBP and MagSafe/Power Adapter to the Apple store  for evaluation.
