MagSafe won't charge the MacBook

The MagSafe is about 4 days old and it is the l shape adapter. It doesn't work in other MacBooks. It goes green for about 1 second then goes off and the MacBook doesn't charge.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Callum

It appears that it may be defective.  Bring it and your Macbook to the Apple store for testing and probable replacement.

  • My charger's light won't turn on and it won't charge the MacBook

Hi guys, I have a MacBook that is around 2 years old and last night when I was going to plug in the charger, I didn't see the light turning on I have had this problem before but after 10-60 minutes it went back to normal, now I'm stuck with my unchargebable Mac and an iPad, I really need my Mac for next week and I live in Sk Canada and I believe there is no apple store in this province so I might have to send my Mac to Calgary and I don't know what to do, please someone help me!!

I have checked that before but I don't find it usefull, like I have done all of those things before, like cleaning the pins ect I just want my MacBook to turn on so I can send my stuff to another person and go to their house untill I find a way to solve this problem

  • Magsafe won't charge... but is green!

My magsafe won't charge my MacBook Pro. It says it is at 86% and I just calibrated it a few days ago. The light on the magsafe is lit green and the percentage is staying steady at 86 % until I unplug it and take it to work then I might lose a percent or so.... I am worried about this because I need it for some side work I am doing.
I reset the PRAM and when that didn't work I reset the PMU.....
    nothing helped.....
    Marc

Marc, I can't give you any firm advice except to carry around the MagSafe adapter with you for a while.
If the battery charge percentage isn't dropping while you are using the computer plugged in, it seems the computer is properly running off the power adapter.
The display of percentage charge may or may not be correct. It's possible that all is OK and that the battery is good and can be recharged. Remember that a battery is a disposable item, with a finite number of charge cycles. You can check the capacity of the battery from About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > Power.
The only way you are going to find out for sure is to run the computer off battery power, perhaps with another calibration cycle.
If you subsequently find that the battery, after being discharged, won't charge then there's a problem. Time to call Apple.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

Is there a way to charge the MacBook?
Do I have to give it a fulfilling charge in the beginning or can I just use it immediately after purchasing if the battery is partially charged?
Do I need to de-charge the battery every once in a while and full charge it back again?

  • Magsafe won't charge, MacBook won't download firmware

I'm hoping someone might have some insight into this problem I'm having. Like many others, I bought a new Magsafe power adapter for my MacBook, and it doesn't work. It does work when I turn off the computer, remove the battery, and then restart the computer, so I know it's not an issue with the adapter itself. I also tried downloading the SMC firmware update v1.4, but my computer tells me I don't need this update, even though my computer only has v1.2. Is there any way I can force my computer to download the newer version?
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Casey

The correct chargers for the Mac portables are: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2346
Using a charger that is too low on power should not damage the MacBook, just not charge it very well.  That looks like the battery is healthy enough, but if the charger is attached, either the connector is not making electrical contact or the charger itself is faulty.
It would be a good idea to try another, appropriate, charger or take it to an Apple store genius bar where they can test and tell where the fault is.

A new machine shouldn't need one, but it's it's not charging that's the solution.
All I can figure it sat on a shelf at Best Buy too long, they are closing 50 stores so I hear, so apparantly they haven't been busy like a Apple Store is and product flies off the shelves in pristine charged up like condiiton.

  • Won't charge unless macbook is off

My 4 day old macbook won't charge its battery while it's open and turned on. When I plug in the adapter the light will do its usual (green for a few seconds and then turn amber) and the icon on my desktop will indicate the battery is charging- but this only lasts about 2 minutes before the light turns off and my desktop icon goes back to showing how long until my battery runs out (and it does run out, so I know its not just a problem with the adapter's light.) The battery charges just fine when the computer is off or asleep.
I'm new to Macs and this is my first laptop of any kind so my question is: am I just making a mistake or is there a problem with the hardware that I should have checked out? Thanks in advance for any help!

That was the first problem I had with my Apple one year ago. It has only gotten worse! If I had known it was the beginning of a bigger problem which Apple refuses to admit to, would have returned it right then and there. I have had that problem fixed and am on my 4th going on my 5th battery and am constatntly sending it back to Apple -- After getting your situation fixed, my computer now runs hot, fan runs quickly and battery dies. It is a symptom of a bigger problem -- Unfortunately, Apple has not been able to fix it and I am truly disappointed in their attitude towards what seems to be a common problem which is known by many but not admitted by Apple.

  • Is there any problem letting charge the macbook all night?

I have the new macbook pro and my question is that has any problem to charge the batteries of the macbook all the night, even if takes around 3 hours to complete.
It's gonna have some overcharge and burn something?
    thank you.

Rapha,  One thing to be aware of.  Li-Ion batteries, as all batteries do, have a finite number of charges before they die.  I suggest you keep your MacBook Pro plugged in most of the time and then once every month or two let it run down and do a full charge.    I have had my MacBook Pro for over a year and only disconnect it every two months and have had no problems with the battery.
This is from the same paragraph from the link posted. Always read the full article don't just pick one thing to hang on too.
If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month.
