  • Mail & Address book improvements

I just posted this to Apple's feedback, but if others have any news on how to do any of these things, I'd love to know. They're all old topics, but still, as far as I know, unsolved:
I have a nice new MBP, and, for the fourth and final time, I'm doing all I can to move away from Entourage (and Office overall) and use Mail. BUT, Mail and Address Book remain the weakest parts of Apple's integrated software. Please, please can we get the following VERY BASIC features included asap:
    1. Skip Messages over Xkb
Please can we do away with the requirement to be prompted. There is so much SPAM nowadays, most of my email I want to check rapidly BEFORE downloading. It also saves dial-up time. Having to be prompted every time is a real pain
    2. Retrieving partially downloaded messages
Please can we re-download partially retrived messages without having to re-start mail altogether.
    3. Address book integration and sophistication
Please can the 'Nickname' fields be recognized when auto-completing email addresses in Mail. Entourage does this no problem. I know I can make multiple addresses in Address Book, one for real name, one for nicknames (eg. Michael and Mike), but at present Mail doesn't seem to recognize the nickname field when creating mail messages. This is so annoying!
    4. Better grouping and rule options
The mass of email everyone now receives means the easier it is to organize and color mails depending on recipient, group, etc. is key. Being able to add to an address group from within Mail would be ideal. There's lots more.
I'm really, really going to try to get mail working this time (at least until Entourage goes Intel native), so I suspect I'll have more requests, but Mail really could do with some work IMHO.
    Thanks

Shouldn't have been a question, but if there's any more news on these features, I'd still love to hear about it.

  • Apple Mail unable to forward attachments

I called tech support and they said to save an attachment to the desk top - which is fine if it's 1 file and that works. I have one with 8 jpg files that goes with text and all I get are the blue boxes with the
    photos missing.
I can't seem to find a work around with Apple Mail so I go to our Gmail account and send it from there.
Any clue when Apple Mail will be improved? Simple tasks it can't seem to perform. With the iMac raved about for its graphics, find it hard to believe that I can't insert my .gif with my name being written by a rose. It's at those moments that I fire up the PC and use IncrediMail.
    Thank you.

Thank you for your encouraging post. Since calling Apple Care and the whiz in Apple Mail could only tell me how to forward one attachment, mind sharing how to forward more than one with text?
I'm not forwarding attachments with each e-mail I send - most of our friends share lovely e-mails with animal photos combined with text. One yesterday had 8 photos but when I tried to forward it, I get the blue boxes.
I tried using the forward and then the Message, forward as attachment, but still just the blue box with a question mark in it. If there is something "hidden", it sure isn't in "The Missing Manual" books and neither is tech support aware of it.
    Mind sharing? Thank you.
How about changing the color default for outgoing messages? Tried everything and tech support couldn't solve that one either. It's all black; then highlight and then select a color.
Wonderful to 'bump' into someone that knows these answers - sure
    appreciate your help.

  • Mail not saving IAMP preferences for Gmail

    Dear All,
I'm using iMail to access my Gmail account through IMAP. The settings should be very particular to get IMAP to function transparently. When I set those settings in iMail preference it is working until ... the next time I launch iMail ... as those settings appear discarded and re-defaulted to wrong ones.
Can you help me fix that issue? Thanks.
    Regards.

  • LDAP, Address Book, Mail

    Hi
I have an LDAP server functioning as a shared address book. I have configured addressbook and mail to use that server for contact searches.
My problem is that many contacts have multiple email addresses (home, office, etc.) and in LDAP these are stored as different instances of the 'mail' attribute. The 'mail' attribute must then be mapped somehow to the 'Email' attribute on Address Book. However, searching the directory in either address book or the 'to' field of Mail only gives me the first mail listed, and there's no way to show any others. It labels the first address as 'work' and doesn't give any more info.
Does anyone know how to get around this? I am new to LDAP so maybe you're not supposed to store multiple values for the same attribute?
    Many thanks

Anyone know how to convince Apple to add this functionality?
I doubt Tiger's Mail will get many changes, if any, but...
    Here's their Feedback page...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I don't exactly see Mail mentioned, so maybe this one...
But there is Mail under the Feedback Area dropdown menu here...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Or is it perhaps present in Leopard/SL?
No LDAP to test here, but both Mail & AB are improved.

  • SMTP Error when sending mail

Hopefully someone can help, this is really irritating... I have moved from Entourage to Mac Mail when I had to do a system restore to see how the mail app has improved. My problem is when I send mail out I get an SMTP authentication error and it asks me through a dropdown list which other SMTP server to use. Since I have only one (smtp.mail.yahoo.com:[username]) I retry and it then works.
I basically have this problem every time I send out a mail, but it works after retrying. It's not a huge issue but one I would like to get fixed. Anyone had this before?

    E -
It seems as if it may be timing out, I am not really sure. But it hasn't done it to me in over a week now. I have been using a new wireless router so maybe that might have something to do with it.
But I have been using port 25 and I am not using SSL, just username password.
Not sure what exactly has changed but it seems to be working now. thanks for all your help Ernie.

  • "Erase Junk Mail" 10.7 Mail Grayed Out

For the last few months, maybe even since I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6 several months ago, I have noticed that the "Erase Junk Mail" under "Mailbox" is grayed out even though there are emails in the junk mail folder.
Also when I go to search I no longer can select, or even find, the "From" option.
It's most likely me just not seeing it.
I have rebuilt all the folders.
    Thanks for your help.

Found the problem myself in another thread.
"The problem was that I was playing with the Junk Mail preferences to improve the junk mail filter and accidentally selected "Perform custom actions"."

  • ICloud Mail issues: "Cannot Load Mail" and "Cannot Get Mail"

I'm currently experiencing issues when trying to access iCloud Mail which is visible in two places:
      - on a iOS device (iPad and iPhone): when opening Mail.app and trying to check my iCloud Inbox:
"Cannot Get Mail" "The user name or password for 'iCloud' is incorrect."
       - on http://www.icloud.com: when clicking the Mail icon:
"Cannot Load Mail" "Help Apple improve iCloud by reporting this problem." [Reload] [Report to Apple] [Close Mail]
Oddly enough synching Contacts and Calendar items works fine on the iOS device (so username and password are obviously correct), and logging onto http://www.icloud.com using these credentials with use of all other application icons (Contacts, Calendar, Find my iPhone) seems to work also.
I created a "free" me.com account to enable "Find my iPhone" when iOS 4 was released (which doesn't include mail), and already had a Apple ID. Presumably these got merged now, maybe contributing to the issue?
iCloud is only available to me through the web or my iOS devices, I currently don't have Lion installed.
    Suggestions?

I am in the exact same boat:
I was a MobileMe subsciber who migrated to iCloud
MobileMe ID was [email protected]; Apple ID [email protected]
All iCloud services work as intended EXCEPT mail
I can access iCloud Mail by:
    Mail.app in Lion
When I access my iCloud mail on my iOS devices, I get "The user name or password for 'iCloud' is incorrect."  I know for a fact the password is correct, and all other services work.
When I access iCloud online, again all services EXCEPT mail work.  Here, I get the "Cannot Load Mail." message
Has anyone resolved this; or is this an Apple issue?  This is driving me crazy.

  • Extract image in PDF file - vba code in Excel

    Hi All,
I am applying a solution for my company. We have some Front offices which receive customers' requests in paper form.
We have one Back Office which is receiving the customers' original paper requests from Front Office via courier mail.
To improve the efficency, I am trying to apply a solution which allow the Front Offices to scan the paper requests into PDF files.
Those scanned files will be accessed by Back Office to process.
Given the volume of the requests, it is impossible to open each file in the folder by clicking mouse.
I have completed the tool (using Excel and vba ) which displays all of the requests (PDF files) as hyperlinks in Excel list.
The requests are ranked with priority so that the Back Office people know which to process first.
    That solution works well.
However, Back Office has just requested me to display certain fields in the PDF files as image in Excel's cells so that they can type the information to the system without having to open the PDF files.  The way that the images are displayed on Excel cells is an extraction of part of PDF page.
I know that in Adobe Reader, I can use my mouse to select part of the area then copy to clipboard, so I hope that we can do the extraction programmatically.
Could anyone can help me figure out how to implement above extraction solution in Excel vba?
    I am facing 2 concerns:
    1. Acrobat SDK:
I don't know if my company purchased license of Acrobat SDK or not.  But when I open Excel VB editor, I can see in "Reference" menu the below items:
+ Adobe Acrobat Browser Control Type Library 1.0
+ Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Type Library
+ Acrobat Access 3.0 Type Library
Are the above enough for my application?
    2. VBA code for extraction of part of PDF files:
    - What should be on the vba code for the extraction?  Which functions I should use?
    Thank you very much
    Cheers

The functionality that you require is not available to VBA/COM - it is only exposed via C/C++.
However, you could retrieve the ENTIRE page image to the clipboard and then use whatever VB/VBA methods you choose to grab a section of the image.
Of course, this all assumes that Adobe Acrobat is installed on each person's computer that will be using the solution since Reader does not have the necessary APIs and Acrobat can't be installed on a server.

  • Using test tenant as production system by mistake...

    Hello,
I have a case where C4C is being used on a test tenant rather than a production tenant.
In order to be able to activate mass e-mails and possibly improve performance and to set things right alltogether, I'm looking for the cleanest way to migrate to production.
It seems there is no 'request system' path from test to production that includes all data.
Support has advised me to use data migration from test to production but I fear I will loose quite some context and other things (e.g. e-mail attachments).
I wonder if anyone has stumbled upon the same and has some good advice?
    Kind regards

    Hi Gunter,
I had such a case with another customer recently as well.
In order to get the situation corrected, please please create a ticket requesting the copy of your test tenant into a productive carrier system as soon as possible.
Running test tenants productively must be prevented in any case. Productive tenants are running on a dedicted system landscape (carrier sytems) which is underlying different security, upgrade and downtimes rules - e.g. the release upgrade is performed 2 weeks in advance on the test tenants to enable the customer to test their use cases prior to productive upgrade.
    kind regards
    Bernd

  • Completely Lost:no supporting web browser to use...

I have been without internet on my own mac for quite some time. I've been using my fiance's PC (God help me). It's been over a year since I've used the internet on my mac. I have a g3 imac with OS 9.1. I found out yesterday after having internet installed that internet explorer no longer supports upgrades. Also, my yahoo email can't be accessed because I have to upgrade to a new web browser. I tried firefox, no luck, safari isn't offered for my OS and msn is all wierd looking and then not to mention other websites that I'm used to visiting are messed up. Things are out of place and links to click on are missing...text over other text.
I've been trying all day to figure something out and I am frustrated to the point of insanity.
I've googled and searched and downloaded (with no luck). I can't even upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2.1 either. I called CompUSA where I bought my computer and they said I'll "be getting a call back and if I don't, call back and ask for Dean." I even tried the 1800 number and waited for 20 minutes before giving up.
I want to know what web browser I can use AND a link to download it. Is 9.1 so out of date that I'll be forced to upgrade???
    Thankyou much in advance!
    iMac   Mac OS 9.1.x

I have just accessed my Yahoo email with my Lombard (G3, 333 MHZ) on OS9.2 using both Netscape 7.01 and Mozilla 1.3 (wamcom). Even viewed the little bee buzzing over flowers gif my sister included. I have no reason to think they won't work with 9.1 as well. I've never been a fan of Internet Exploder anyway.
The only thing I can't get to with Netscape is my netscape.net email! That's because it was engulfed, amoeba-like, by AIM mail and offers "improvements" I had no use for. Now I have to use the iMac G5 and Firefox. Otherwise I still use Netscape, even on the G5. Things work fine. Occasionally eBay will show a "reminder" to upgrade the browser so I can use all the features, but I just dismiss it. I don't know what features I am missing, but I'm pretty sure I don't really need them.
    So try Netscape.
