Mail 2.1 lost attachment button, font button

My daughter's eMac is running Mac OS X 10.4.8 and Mail 2.1. She has just informed me today that she no longer has an attachment button on the toolbar, nor can she easily change fonts or font colors when she sets up a new message. She is correct in that these items are not showing up on her version of the Mail app.
I am also running Mail 2.1 on my iMac G4 that is running Mac OS X (10.4.8), but I have these elements in my application windows (attachment button, fonts option in new message).
I have looked over my daughter's mail preferences several times and don't see any settings that would change how her mail app shows up. I have run Cocktail over her eMac hard disk to re-set caches & disk permissions.
When I sign-on to the eMac with my administrator account, I am able to launch Mail properly and have it show up with the attachment button & fonts button in new messages.
What is wrong with my daughter's access of the Mail app? Would deleting the preferences file be a way to re-set things?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is it just those two buttons that she doesn’t have or is it the entire toolbar?
If the window’s toolbar is hidden, either do View > Show Toolbar or click on the grey oblong button at the top right corner of the window.
The toolbar can be customized doing View > Customize Toolbar or ctrl-clicking (or right-clicking) on it and choosing Customize Toolbar from the contextual menu.

  • Cannot Attachment Mail by clicking on "Attachment" button. Checkbox on bottom left of screen

    I've saw a similar error like this in this discussion thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4178118?start=0&tstart=0) and I've tried the solution but it still doesn't work.
    Basically, what I'm encountering is that whenever I want to attach a file using Mail by clicking on the Attachment (paper clip) icon, Mail will hang for a little while and then, this checkbox with the words "Send Windows-Friendly attachment" will appear on the bottom left of the screen (see screenshot). I don't even know whether there is supposed to be a Finder window that's supposed to appear because I have never ever seen that before (maybe I did before upgrading to Mountain Lion but I don't remember...)
    I can, however, drag and drop whatever attachments I want into Mail and it sends perfectly fine. It's just annoying me how this checkbox appear. The only way to get rid of it is to quit Mail and relaunch it.
    It hinders my workflow a little because sometimes, I do want to use the Attachment icon to attach my items in my emails.
    Please help me~

    Okay. I've managed to fix this problem on my own.
    What I did was to go under "Utilities" then "Disk Utility".
    Next, I clicked on my startup hard disk on the left and clicked on "Verify Disk Permissions" to see if there are any abnormalities (and there was a huge list).
    Then, I clicked on "Repair Disk Permissions" to fix those abnormalities and then, this issue went away!

  • Cannot attach with the attachment  button in mail. Can drag them in directly.  But they won't open.  or are corrupted

    Cannot attach attachments via the attachment button in mail.
    I can drag items into the draft but then they either wont open or are corrupted.
    Help!!!

    At some point, Apple started doing this annoying stupid thing with certain app updates (among them QuickTime Player, and iTunes, and Mail) where if those apps do not reside in /Applications they will not be updated properly.
    Correct. It has always been that way in OS X. Applications, particularly from Apple, belong in the Applications Folder, where update installers can find them and link to associated system files that may be updated as well without you realising it.

  • Lost delete button on mail

    lost delete button function on mail

    Close out of the mail app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
    Then do a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • HT201269 Attachment button not appearing when writing e-mails

    Since I upgraded my iphone to ios7, I am unable to find the attachment button to attach any pictures or PDF documents. Can anyone help me out on this?

    Assuming that you were using the default Mail.app, it never had a way to attach PDF documents.
    To attach a picture from your Camera Roll, long-press in the body of the email, then press the right-arrow that appears.

  • Mail freezes when press the attachment button

    I first realized that my MailTab Pro for Gmail app would freeze for about 10 seconds when I press the paperclip button. So then thought it maybe had to do with a setting for mail. So I went throught the whole drama of setting up Mail (apple mail), and then tried pressing the attachment button on an email I tried to compose and that too would freeze up for 10 to 20 seconds. I cant even get to the screen to browse attachments. I can upload attachments no problem on safari or firefox in gmail. But through MailTab Pro it freezes. I have, however realized that I can drag and drop files into the mail app email that I am composing. But that is a frustrating way to browse files. Anyways, wasted my whole day trying to figure this out and was hoping somebody might know how to help me out. Would be really appreciated.
    Cheers

    Doesnt seem like anybody had any similar problems to me, but if you do have a similar issue even with apple mail or any imap attachment issues I figured out the solution.
    This solution solved both my mail attachment problem as well as my cpu overheating issue as well. On this thread read the post from James Hunkins.

  • Attach Button Not Working

    Bizarrely enough, the attach button (cute little paper clip on top) no longer works. I create a new mail message as usual, and when I click on the attach button it just ignores me. I shut down the computer, restarted, still no response from the button.
    However, if I drag an attachment onto the mail message it attaches normally.
    Using the paper clip icon, doesn't.
    Am I the only one having this problem ?
    Any suggestions to resolve this annoying little quirk ?
    Thx...

    In mail Snow Leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange,there was a type button.  Now the type button is gone, the rest is grey, why?

    I mean in OS X Lion of course. Same with Finder window: There used to be a 'Today' option, where has that gone? It was so easy to have an overview of the work you were busy with. Does anybody has a tip?

    Create a custom list form or go to your NewForm.aspx using SharePoint Designer. Place the below code where you would like to insert the Attachment Field
    <tr>
    <td width="190px" valign="top" class="ms-formlabel">
    <h3 class="ms-standardheader">
    <nobr>Attach Files</nobr>

  • The attach button not working in my email (MacBook Pro 10.6.8; Firefox 12)

    I click on the attach button and nothing happens.

    Hi rayemathis, which email site is the problem -- Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.? Or Outlook Web App?
    Can you think of any changes that might have triggered the problem, e.g., updating Firefox or an add-on, or installing a new add-on?
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
    While viewing a page on the site, choose
    Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    Try deleting the cookies and reloading the page. Does that help?
    ''Edit: Before deleting cookies, make sure you save any work in progress, e.g., save any message you're composing to Drafts, since you probably will have to log in again.''

    I shrank my Yahoo e-mail by pushing the control button. How do I restore to original size?
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == I pushed the control button

    I corrected my problem, which was having very small print when I went to Yahoo e mail, by clicking on reset on the view menu. Only my text was small, the toolbars were fine.
