Mail 2.1--remove old addresses?

Using Mail 2.1...how can I delete old addresses from the cache? For example, if "[email protected]" has changed his address to "[email protected]", both addressed still appear in the auto-fill-in list if I type "c..." I'd like to able to delete the old one and other addresses that I no longer use. I can easily reset Safari, but I don't see what I need under Mail Preferences.

Doesn’t typing remove old address (or remove address, or just address) in Mail Help’s search box return any useful information?

  • Mail app not removing old email accounts

    Hi,
I have mail accounts that I made in the internet accounts section of the system prefrences and then deleted not disapearing from my Mail App. they were deleted due to duplication of a google mail account and a few fails at getting an outlook account to work.
They are NOT now in the interenet accounts, how ever do show up in mail. If you go to the mail prefrences and try and remove them it sends you back to the internet accounts in the system prefrences where theyhave already been deleted. A second Quirk is that I thought I could just disable the unwanted google account howver when I do it disables the duplicae too.
How can I get mail to behave and remove the ghost accounts? this has partly  happed as I wanted all my macs to use the same accounts over Icloud so when I turned it on, it doubled up accounts on my main computer, I then removed the non Icloud shared accounts,
    Thanks for the help

If you search on this forum and compare popular web hosting providers like Bluehost, Hostgator and Godaddy you will see many users have such problems with their email apps. First it seems your problem comes from your cellphone. But it is surprising that I had the same problem when I had a web and email hosting account with Godaddy and their customer service couldn't solve my problem and finally I moved my email hosting account to Bluehost and the problem automatically was solved, without any action!
So I recommend to you and any other users with similar problems to change your email hosting provider. Now that you are unhappy with Godaddy I recommend to try http://www.bluehost.com or http://www.hostgator.com companies.
I have the S3 and don't have any problem with syncing my Hostgator email accounts. So If I were you first I'd try Hostgator.

  • Using Mail under iOS 5 Mail continues to suggest addresses that have been removed from Contacts. How do I remove old adreesses?

Using Mail under iOS, 5 Mail continues to suggest addresses that have been removed from Contacts. How do I remove old, obsolete adreesses no longer in Contacts?

If you open Mail and then in its File menu at the top, click on Window and choose Previous Recipients, you'll get a popup window listing them. At that point, you can highlight and delete any/all.

  • How do I remove old e-mail addresses from the Mail Memory?

I have friends who have changed the e-mail addresses, and quite some time ago also. But everytime I write their name in the address field, it still brings up the old address as an option. And if I'm not paying attention it sends to the old address.
If there a way to clear the Mail memory so that it won't use old addresses?
    Thanks.

  • How do you remove old email address in Mail?

Need to remove email addresses that are eroneous from my Mail programme, they do not appear in my address book, any suggestions?

They are probably in your Previous Recipients list. You can edit that list under Windows, Previous Recipients.

  • How can I remove old deleted email addresses from my 'To' choices field

When I input an email address in my email 'TO' box old deleted email addresses still appear as choices. Is there any way of deleting these old addresses permanently? Very annoying!

There is no way to delete the remembered email addresses in the mail app. Removing them from your Contacts has no bearing on how this affects the mail app. The only real way to delete those remembered addresses is to restore the iPad to factory settings. That is a pretty harsh workaround just to have the mail app forget some email addresses.
If you ignore those addresses, eventually they will go away, but it can take some time before that happens. There is nothing short of restoring to factory settings that you can do now to remove them.

  • How to get rid of old addresses in Mail?

I run Mail on two machines ( system 10.3.9)
When I start typing in an address ( in a new message) the suggestions pop up with various names etc. Often some of the suggestions are old addresses that are no longer valid and are no longer in my Address Book.
I have deleted or changed addesses in the Address Book, but these old email addresses still seem to hide somewhere and it is quite annoying.
Not sure how rid of theses pests.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

    Welcome to the Discussions.
Collecting addresses to which you have sent is the function a special address book called Previous Recipients. To learn about managing it, both to remove, and to actually add to the primary Address Book, see:

  • Mail app using old Address Book group list

I have a strange problem. Using OS 10.7.2 and iCloud on my mac. I just removed all of the entries from a group contact in Address Book and added new ones. It shows up with the new list when I check my contacts on-line on iCloud.com.
The problem is in Mail.app. When I create a new message and type the group name, it is somehow using an old list of contacts for that group. I deleted everything from the "Previous Recipients" list thinking that would help, but it didn't.
Any idea why Mail is not using the address book correctly?
    Thanks.

A computer restart seems to have solved the problem.

  • Sending e-mail old address dominates new one

A friend has chaged his e-mail address. I send msil to the new address but it gets directed to his former one and I get an "undeliverable" reply.
How can I remove an old address, address not contact from my list?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

  • Mail:  REPLY always goes to an old address...

    Okay Gurus...
A friend of mine, John,  just changed his email address.  His old address was (let's say) a hotmail.com address.  His new address is a gmail.com address.
Now, whenever I recieve and email from [email protected], and I hit "reply," the reply-to address is always his old hotmail address.  Every single time.  It comes in from gmail, but as soon as I hit reply, the address in the reply to is always the old, dead address.
I have tried (multiple times) removing the old address using the "remove from previous recipeints list" in the reply-to field, and I've removed it from the actual list through the Window menu.  However, whenever I get an email from him, the reply to still calls up the old address.  I've checked his contact info in my address book and only the new email is listed - I removed the old one.
This also happens on my iPhone, if I hit reply to the new gmail account, it still puts the old hotmail.com address in the reply-to slot.  Same with the iPad.
This is drivin me nuts.  I know, that sometimes in haste I don't catch this, and he's never received emails that have gone to the old address.
What's the fix here?  I've done the obvoiusly prescribed things, but it's still not working.  Please help.

Anybody?  This has been driving me nuts...

  • When I edit a contact's email address and then type the name in the Mail App, I see both the new and old address.  Why don't I see only the new email address?

When I edit an email address in the Contacts App, and the type the Contact's name in the Mail App, I get both the old and new contacts.  Why don't I get only the updated email address?

Mail remembers previously used email addresses for a period of time. Those you no longer use will eventually disappear. After you have sent one or two emails to the new address the old address will move below the new one. Then after a period of time not sending to the old address it will disappear. Patience is the key.

  • Removing old e-mail adresses

Mail's auto fill feature reverts to an older e-mail address rather than the new one in my Address Book. Is there a way to delete the old address from the list. For one friend I have four older addresses still appearing in the pop-up list. Are the addresses stored in a pref file I can edit?

in Mail go to Window menu->previous recipients and delete the obsolete addresses there.
