Mail 3.3 won't send attachments

Ever since upgrading to Leopard 10.5.4 I haven't been able to send attachments over about 30Kb. I have dialup with NetZero and have checked all of the modem and Network settings. I've been using this same dialup for 5 yrs or so and have never had a problem with previous OS's. The last was 10.4.11. When I attempt to send an attachment of over 30Kb, Mail will spin for 5 min. or so and finally generate the following: "Cannot send message using the server smtp.netzero.com". I checked with NetZero and that is the correct address for their outgoing mail server. To check that I didn't have some other problem I tried FTPing a file via an FTP client and that worked fine.
I did try sending an attachment using the browser based email program from NetZero and had a similar problem...I'm using Safari 3.1.2 for that BTW. In NetZero it spun it's wheel for a few minutes and simply didn't load the attachment. This leads me to think that this is more of an OS issue in that it does the same thing with 2 different programs.
Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I'm having similar trouble with Mail 3.3 after upgrading to Leopard despite years of trouble-free use with exactly the same set up on previous OSs and versions of Mail.
It boils down to frequent but erratic SMPT errors - sometimes the mail goes, sometimes it doesn't. I've found that clicking the Connection Doctor button sometimes helps. But sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it's only emails with attachments that get snagged, other times it's all emails.
Why does something that used to work fine have to get worse with an upgraded version? iPhoto seems to have got worse too (no dragging to folders from full-screen view). Come on, Apple, sort it out or we'll all have to abandon your Apps.

  • After update to OSX 10.9, Mail won't send attachments

Since upgrading to Mavericks (OSX 10.9), Mail (7.0) won't send email attachments using my employer's MS Exchange account.  All other messages (without attachments) send just fine, and no Exchange server or account settings were changed.  Attachments send just fine via the exchange web application, so it's not an account or mailbox size issue.  The problem happens even with small attachments (I just tried one that was 173 kb).
After I hit send, the activity window says "adding message" for a time, then an error comes up "Cannot send message using the Exhange server" then give me an option to use my gmail or icloud which work fine.
    Any ideas?

I actually was able to solve the issue using some info gleaned from other posts.  I think it had to do with some exchange account settings from a prior version of Mail that were still on my machine and interfering with the new Mail app.  Here's what I did to fix the issue.
Make sure I had a good backup in Time Machine (including system settings) in case something goes wrong
Delete Exchange account using "system preferences > internet accounts"
    Close Mail
    Show hidden files
Terminal command:  defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    Terminal command:  killall Finder
Using Finder, locate and delete the file:  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Using Finder, locate and delete the folder(s) and all their contents:  ~/Library/Mail/V2/EWS-(your exchange acct info)I actually had a couple of these "EWS" folders in there from prior times that I had setup my exchange account.  Not sure why ... I just deleted them all.
    Empty the recycle bin
    Reboot the computer
Hide hidden files (not necessary, it's just my preference)
Terminal command:  defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    Terminal command:  killall Finder
Open "system preferences > internet accounts" and setup Exchange account as if it were the first time.
It took a while for all my mailboxes to rebuild and everything to come in, but after the initial sync, Mail 7.0 now works perfectly with my Exchange account including sending mail with file attachments.  It's actually a lot quicker to receive and send than the prior version of Mail.
It doesn't seem like a widespread problem, but I hope this at least helps you (eprasek) with your issue.  Best of luck!

  • .Mail won't send attachments

Since upgrading to OS X 10.7, Mail usually won't send attachments. It does not matter if the attachment is small (~300kb) or larger (~3MB). Mail will try to send it (and if you watch the progress bar in the lower right corner of Mail, you can see that it starts uploading the message), but then it stops. Then I get the message: "Cannot send message using the server..." Occsaionally, attachments will work, but I haven't been able to determine why. This is the case for both my desktop (10.7.2) and my laptop (10.7.3).
The e-mail affected is a g-mail account configured through IMAP. I have verified that I have internet connectivity while experiencing this problem and I can even send other e-mails w/o file attachments. I opened the Connection Doctor and everything logs in/out correctly. The details from Connection Doctor are below.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I am going to try removing the account from mail and then setting it up again to see if it solves the issue.

  • Mail app won't send attachments

A few days ago my macbook pro stopped sending email with attached files, and so did my wife's macbook (both running snow leopard at the start of the problem). Regular mail is sent but both sending an receiving is painstakingly slow. Progress bar appears but near the end the transfer rate slows to reach zero and stays there forever.
Webmail access to my account won't let me send attachments either.
Problem happens with yahoo plus, hotmail and workplace mail servers. Also from home (through broadband telephone access connected to an airport extreme base station) or from wifi access at work, at work downloading messages is fast though. Doesn't happen when sending through my ipad2.
I have reset the broadband modem and base station, rebuilt permissions in both computers, changed MTU settings and upraded my macbook pro to lion with no success.
    Any ideas?

I don't think so because I used to send 2MB or 3 MB files with no problem and now it won't let me send a 60K word document. It also happened out of the blue, no system updates or preference tweaking whatsoever.

  • Using Outlook express mail and system 10.9, sending attachments

I have a new Mac, operating system 10.9. Trying to use Outlook Express Mail from work, I am unable to send attachments. Thanks

One thing in there jumps out - the long time taken to connect to the internet after NetProtect was installed. McAfee is a notorious resource hog and that behaviour is typical of the symptoms which persuaded me and others to look for another AV. Microsoft Security Essentials has a light touch and many would recommend it, though there are several other effective, free AVs available. If you do uninstall NetProtect you should make sure to run the McAfee Removal Tool also.
I would advise you to get NetProtect out of the way and return with an update for advice on the email issues.

  • Mail 6.2 won't send my mail???

I think mail just up graded and now it won't send my mail.  What is wrong?  What can I do.  I have check my password and reentered it but it doesn't work.

I've got the identical problem!  Can't send but can receive new incoming mail.
When I first installed OS 10.6 several months ago Send worked just fine but after several more months send  function stopped working.
I had the same problem with Mail app in OS10.5.8.....after many months of working without issue it eventually stopped. Receive also eventually stopped working in Leopard.
Just as in OS 10.5.8., in 10.6.8 I keep getting the notification that  my email password is not accepted as valid.
Was valid and accepted earlier but no longer.
The consensus seems to be that Mail app is not totally reliable.

  • Mail receives but won't send. Upgrade to Lion hasn't helped

Mail can send messages but is not receiving any.

Hi, once you have all the correct outgoing server and incoming server settings check your router.
I had the same issue and tried many times to change the settings in mail and still couldn't send.
View the router settings and check the devices, if your Macbook is listed as Unknown xx-xx-xx change its name to a single word e.g Macbook.
Go back to mail if it still doesn't work remove the account and add back.
This worked first time for me

  • I can no longer use my mail account. Won't send or receive.

How do I reset my mail account in order to receive and send messages?

Apple - Support - iPad - Mail Assistant
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
You can also delete the account and start over. Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Your email account>Delete Account.

  • Mail receives but won't send.

  • Icloud won't send attachments

I am unable to send attachments from icloud from my web based browser on a PC. Is there something simple like a check box? I have looked but cannot find anything.
    Mike.

Are you saying that email without attachments do get sent?  How big are your attachments?  If too big, that would be the problem, there is a limit to attachment size at each end of the journey from here to there (some providers limit it to 5 MB or more).

  • Mail doesn't want to send attachments

Hi all. This is a recent thing that was present in 10.5.x and also now in 10.5.2
I write and email to which I want to add an attachment. I click on the add attachment icon and navigate to and then choose the file. Say a pdf. Send windows friendly attachments is selected. I've tried having it on and off and it seems to make no difference. Anyway. When Mail returns me to my open message the attachment is not present. To get round this I have to save the message, quit and then re-open and then reselect the attachment. Which I can then see in the message window.

    Use the mail setup wizard:

  • Yosemite mail 8.0 won't send stationery with Word attachment

Before upgrading to Yosemite. I could send stationery-based email with a Word file attachment. Now when I followed the same process as I have done every week fro the past 5 months with my team meeting agenda, if get an error "This message cannot be sent because it uses stationery and contains attachments that are not images."
I had created a stationery with the addresses of my coworkers and the same body text similar to "Attached is the agenda for this week's meeting". I then click in the body of the email, arrow down (the click in the stationery email always selects all the text) to the end and insert a Word document. Always worked before. Now I get the error message. Any ideas on how to send a "non image" attachment with a stationery-based email message in Mail 8.0 under OS X Yosemite 10.10?
    I using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013).
    Thank you.

As a first step, try the following.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Outbox.mbox.
Delete the Outbox.mbox folder and empty the Trash.
This will delete all messages not sent that remain in the Outbox mailbox so if you want to save these messages, transfer them to the account's Drafts mailbox before quitting Mail and delete the Outbox.mbox folder using the Finder.
Launch Mail and a new Outbox.mbox folder will be created automatically by Mail within the Mailboxes folder.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • Mail 5.3 won't send iCloud email. Stuck in Outbox.

I'm having issues with the Mail app not sending emails. I can receive them just fine. I am also receiving an error when attempting to save changes in Mail's preferences for my iCloud account. I've searched all over the web for fixes and have tried most of them, but nothing seems to fix the issue. Any ideas!?
Here is the error I keep receiving:

My IMAP Gmail stopped working Jan 22 2013. Gmail POP and other email accounts worked.I have Lion on a 2012 Macbook Pro.
In the end, after trying many websites, I just clicked the tilde (~) next to the Gmail Imap account and it downloaded two weeks worth of mail. It took a few minutes with the grey spinning wheel but finally came through.

  • Mail - incoming OK, won't send.  Only on laptop.  iPhone OK.

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4s.
I have an iCloud account.  I use Mail on the laptop and iPhone 4s.
On my MacBook Pro, mail is coming in.  But it will not go out.  When I try to send, I get the following message:
"Cannot send using the server smtp.me.com.  The sender address was rejected by the server."
I am given the choice of choosing a different server (iCloud or smtp.mac.com).  Same result.
When I go to Mail preferences, and click on accounts, I note the following:
    - Under "Account Information", the iCloud account is enabled.
    - I have confirmed my password.
Meanwhile, I can send mail from my iPhone just fine.
Finally, I can log into iCloud and send from there.
    Any suggestions?

    More info.
I now have several messages on my laptop in the Outbox folder.  That is where they go when I attempt to send them.  Online, at iCloud, there is no outbox folder.
When I attempt to send a message from my laptop, I still get the message "Cannot send using the server smtp.me.com.  The sender address was rejected by the server."  I am given the choice edit, try later or try with selected server.  If I choose edit, the draft message will appear online in my iCloud draft folder.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

  • Mail fail - smtp won't send, connection doctor says fine.

    Hi Guys,
I've been searching around t'interweb and I can't see to find a fix for this. Mac mail has always been really solid for me, but in the past couple of months mine has gone wonky. First it stopped searching, which again despite trying various things I found and re-installing the whole system, I could not fix.
Now, and more disastrously it has stopped allowing me to send emails through the SMTP server.
It throws up a dialog box saying could not send through this server, try another.
I contacted my exchange mail provider, have gone through settings, and they all seem fine. They've tested it all from their end too. They even issued me an alternate SMTP server and that doesn't work either. Argh. When I run connection doctor it can log in fine. But when I send mail it gets stuck.
Any thoughts its seriously messing up my day/evening/life at the moment.
    Help much appreciated.

The typical problem when the SMTP requires no separate authentication, is that it must use Port 25, but more and more connection providers are blocking Port 25, as it is the least secure again misuse. For those venues where Port 25 use is still permitted, you often must be approved to use it by the IP address of the modem. You have said this problem is present when you are at more than one venue and mention the use of a dongle. Has the modem at any venue changed, and might some ISPs involved have recently acted to block Port 25?
You should investigate whether your Exchange provider can offer you a fully authenticated SMTP that will allow you to use either Port 587 or Port 465.
