Mail 3.6 won't download new POP messages

I have 7 POP accounts running under Mail 3.6. Almost a month ago, one of the accounts stopped downloading new messages, and now, a second account has done the same. I've tried deleting the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded files and rebuilt the mailboxes. Still, no success. In the lower left of the screen, Mail will show that it's apparently trying to download messages, but the download rate quickly drops to zero, and the process quits with nothing new taken off the server. When looking at the Account Info, there are a large number of "Sender Unknown" messages, all with a received date of "Today". I know these to be mostly valid messages that were NOT received today, so I'm reluctant to remove them from the server (a suggestion I read on another forum). Any ideas on how to restore functionality? I do know that the problem is NOT on the ISP end (Cox), as I'm able to receive mail just fine on Evolution running under Ubuntu. HOLY COW!!!! This problem has been driving me NUTS! Like most of you, my Mail simply stopped downloading new messages. No notifications, flashing lights, or buzzers.... just stopped. iPhone continued to dnld messages, and Mail continued to send, but nothing new for the inbox. I had done e'thing... rebuilt my account on my email server, rebuilt my account in Mail, deleted all the preferences.... nothing. Like Brian, I had a pile of messages sitting on the server, even though iPhone had downloaded them already, so I started deleting them one-by-one. And that's when I found it.... one flipping email that would not download, would not delete, would not do anything. I couldn't delete it server side, and I couldn't delete it from Mail. Apparently this was the booger screwing e'thing up, so, frustrated, and as a last resort, I simply clicked on it from w/in my webmail server to open it............ and *poof!* it disappeared. Problem gone. Mail working. What the crap caused that?

Mail Won't Download New Mail!

I got a new powerbook in December and everything worked wonderfully. I set up my mail account and it work just as it should. However, when I left home (florida) and went back to college (virginia) and tried to open up mail, it was no longer downloading new mail! It gave an error message and it related it to the network connection or something...so after longtime frustration I just deleted the account thinking that if I did, I could just make the same account again and all would be well.
NOT THE CASE!
So, I've looked at countless tutorials thinking that I may have entered the wrong information in the different fields and followed step by step all the information in each field. Nothing seems to work. It will let me add my account as IMAP gmail and all the rest but not as POP but I dont really think this is the problem because either way no mail is bringing brought to my inbox. what can I do? I think that it may have to do with my university's firewall that may be blocking it someway. Is there anyway to by pass this to get some mail!!!

Try removing the account from Mail and rentering it as a new account.

NY Times Application Won't Download New Content

The New York Times application on my 2nd gen. touch won't download new stories. When I hit the refresh button, the status bar "Downloading Latest News" appears, but it remains at 0%.
My other apps have no problem connecting to the internet - mail, YouTube, Safari, Joost, etc.
I've tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, restarting and resetting my iPod, and resetting the settings.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. Wife loves to read the NYT and this was one of the primary reasons I was able to talk her into getting a touch. Have tried resetting the network setting, resetting the app, reinstalling the app, restarting the ipod between all of the above, erasing and resetting the whole ipod. Nothing works.

If you use automatic syncing, select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary). Click on Podcasts there. This is the Podcasts tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync podcasts.
Sync Podcasts is checkmarked for automatic syncing. Below that, set up the Podcasts tab to sync podcasts as desired. For example, you can set it to Automatically include all unplayed episodes of selected podcasts. The "all unplayed" option gets new podcasts episodes to sync automatically. Select the podcasts below.
When you click Apply, your selection on the Podcasts tab (and the other tabs... Music, Books, etc.) sync to the iPod. If the iPod was NOT previously set to use automatic syncing, its existing content is replaced.

Mail app - new account won't download all the messages

Hi,
I setup a new email account on Mail and it downloaded 250 of my emails, but then it stops at March 23rd. If I log onto yahoo, all the new emails are there and it was working fine when I was using Thunderbird.
In fact, under mail activity, if I click on get mail it says it's downloading 161 more emails, but it never displays in the inbox. And if I click on the Get Info for that mailbox, it actually shows all my new emails under "Messages on Server".
Is there a way to get the messages to be retrieved under the inbox? I've tried deleting the account and re-adding it, but it keeps stopping at the same date. I've also added two other email accounts and those downloaded fine (also POP accounts).

I have a gmail account set up on my macbook pro. One mail I sent with photos continues to repeatedly downloaded in Recovery. At the same time my Gmail won't download new emails into Inbox when I press Get New Mail. Help

I have a gmail account set up on my mac. A few days ago I sent an email with photos in it and this email now is continuosly being recovered. In the meantime my inbox has stopped downloading new messages, even when i press Get New Mail. How can I stop the repeated recovery of the email and how can I get my inbox to download again?

OK, I persevered and used the Rebuild mailbox option on Mail, actually had to do it twice, but now when I boot up and Mail opens all the previously received iCloud messages I've read on iPhone/iPad are pushed through.
Back to normal...

GMail IMAP account won't download new messages - still can send

Really bizzare bug...I use Mail with two accounts setup, both of which are GMail Imap accounts. Since yesterday I have not been able to download new messages for my inbox whenever Mail has been opened already.
When I first open Mail, it seems to sync correctly and get new messages, but after it's been open if anyone sends me a new message, Mail fails to download the message. Manually clicking "Get New Mail" or using the "Get All New Mail" from menu doesn't seem to help.
Rebuilding my Inbox does help in that it syncs my inbox back up, but after that it doesn't download messages like it's supposed to every minute (preference setting).
Can't think of anything majorly different that I've done in the last day, although I did install RC1 of "Things"....
I'm on OS X version 10.5.6

Has anyone actually done this and had it work? I'm a little anxious to try it given the "Jeez. Good catch..."
If this fix works, why does it work?
I'm running Mac OS 10.5.4 and Mail 3.3 on a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB RAM.
I'm not sure that there is a connection, but Mail stopped downloading email from all my various email accounts shortly after I added a new IMAP account. I've now got 3 active IMAP accounts (one is Gmail), an inactive HTTPMail acct (hotmail) and an inactive POP acct.
I have tried taking all accts offline and bringing all back online at once and each individually. I have quit Mail and re-launched it. I have tried rebuilding each acct's inbox. I have tired re-launching after deactivating all accts but one. None of this has worked. If I click on "Get Mail", the pinwheels spin next to each acct inbox for a second, but no new mail appears.
What is really strange that one or two emails might download from any given account on any given day, but that's it. The one or two new emails that might appear from time to time appear to do so over night - I get up in the morning to check my email and discover at most one or two new emails, even though when I check the accts by webmail there are dozens of new emails between the three accts.
God, I HATE webmail!
When relaunching or taking the Gmail acct online I sometimes get an error message that it's certificate is invalid. I find this hard to believe as Google is no penny-anty operation, but I clikc "connect" and still no new email.

Won't download new software, Error message

I have just gotten a new shuffle. I created a playlist, and set the preferences, and everything looks like it's working (songs are on it, as far as iTunes knows). Before I changed the preferences, iTunes wanted me to download new software, but this message would keep coming up:
"An error occurred updating or restoring iPod. Disconnect iPod, reconnect and then try restoring again. If that does not work, go to http://www.apple.com/support/ipod".
Well, I tried again, and no success. I then tried to avoid it and clicked cancel the next time I connected it. iTunes then prompted me with a message following me to the ipod software update page (I already have the most recent one). I ejected it, and tried playing songs. The ipod shuffle error message came up (green, red, green, red).
How do I update in this situation? Can I get the shuffle to play? Help me, please! Thanks.

ITunes won't download new purchases

Starting a few months ago, iTunes has refused to download new purchases. When I tell it to check for new downloads, I get the message "all purchases have been downloaded for this apple id". However, there are plenty of purchases - dozens at this point - still available on iCloud which it hasn't downloaded. They show up as purchased when I search for them in the store, but obviously I'm not going to manually search through the store for every single purchase I've made in the past three months and click the "download" link.
This seems to be an issue which started with many users in March and remains unresolved. Oddly, the free Color Zen app from the Apple Store app did show up as a pending download, without me even having to tell it to check. On Windows this isn't even meant to be possible!
Is iCloud broken again? If it's been like this for three months I have to believe that something has gone horribly wrong that Apple can't be bothered to fix.

I had this issue, and it's kind of resolved now.
Make sure that you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled in your iTunes preferences by going to iTunes > Preferences in the Store tab and clicking OK.
I still get the same error, "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID" when I try to download all previous purchases at once, but now I can download each genre individually by right clicking the genre and clicking 'download'.

Movie won't download itunes error message

Have been trying to download amovie for a week. Brought macbook to
Apple to free up more space...movie still won't download. I also cannot
delete the movie to start over.

New mail from yahoo won't download to iPod

Hey everyone,
I'm having a problem with my yahoo mail account on my iPod touch. Up to last weekend it was working fine. But now I cannot get my new mail. When I push to get my new mail it begins by refreshing and searching ad normal. Then when it finds the new mail since the last time I pushed it shows at the bottom of the screen " Downloading 1of 15" then the progress bar fills one dot on the left but then stops and so none of my mail get downloaded. I have tried deleting and re installing the account but same problem occurs . Have tried shutting down and restarting but that doesn't work either. I have checked my email account online on a pc and it's working fine so not that side. And I also have a Microsoft outlook account but that is working fine.
Please can anyone out there help me !!!

Phone won't download new update 1.1.1

Hello, this is the first apple product I have ever purchased, and more than likely the last, Had the phone 2 weeks, downloaded the other update 1.0.3 I think it was. I travel alot, did it on my laptop with an aircard, no problems. this new update downloads the whole 152.3mb on itunes, then it says done, then a window pops up saying something to the effect of there was a problem downloading to michaels iphone, unknown error occured then it says (-48) and check your connection and so forth, try again later. I have tried it about 10 times. Been on the phone with apple support for over 3 hours, the first guy gave me a bunch of bs that it was the aircard being to slow and timing out, if it timed out it would have stopped somewhere b4 152.3mb and saying done..I have also tried on wifi to no avail, we tried with norton firewall off and so on, I did download the newest version of itunes, still no luck, reset the phone, no luck....the only thing i haven't done is to restore the phone to original....don't want to lose all my stuff.....any ideas would be appreciated....oh and the first guy at support finally ended up saying that there was problems with the new download and that I should just not download it...the last guy I have left messages for 3 times and he NEVER gets back to me......IMHO their support *****.

2) What operating system are you using?
3) Have you installed any 3rd party apps?
4) Are you using AT&T as your cellular provider?
5) Have you installed anyother updates prior to this one?
6) What version of iTunes are you using?
7a) Do you have a 4gig or 8gig iPhone?
7b) How much free space is left on your phone?
or
7c) how many songs have you placed on the phone?
8) Is there a Apple store in a city you are traveling within?
9) Is there another computer with iTunes installed that you can try to update on?
10) Did you name your phone using a ' or other symbol... if so right click in itunes and rename..

Mail on server won't download to my inbox

I am using a POP account, all the latest software updates, etc. When I get account info, I see all the most recent messages in the window, but when I go to get mail, it will only download messages up to a certain date (December 6th). I've tried rebuilding the mailbox, deleting the envelope index file, deleting the messagesuidownloaded file, and nothing has worked. I've ran disk utility, etc. I have two other pop accounts that are working fine. I am successfully able to download all messages from this particualr account onto my palm pda mail program, no problem. Please help!

Hi Dustin.
Other mail clients such as Thunderbird appear to be perfectly capable of downloading mail in circumstances that Mail has trouble with, but I don’t know whether it’s Mail’s fault or there is really something amiss at the server and those other mail clients are just more fault-tolerant.
Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings for this account?
You may try first removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file (or if you’ve already re-created it), you can tell Mail to remove from the server all messages already downloaded by doing Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. Alternatively, you may remove specific messages by other means (e.g. webmail or the Account Info window).
If removing already downloaded messages doesn’t work, the next thing to try would be removing messages that Mail hasn’t downloaded yet (you may want to try to download them with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them). In particular, try removing the first message that Mail appears to be choking on. Actually, if there is a message on the server that Mail has trouble with, you may be able to identify it in the Account Info window. Don’t assume that it’s junk just because Mail doesn’t display it properly in that window, though. Try looking at its contents by other means (e.g. webmail) before removing it from the server.
