Mail 4.2: Different accounts - pw protection possible?

Hello!
I would like to protect my personal "Mail"-email-account and another account) with two different "master passwords" (so you'll have to enter the password before the inboxes open).
Is that possible and if so: how?

Using Thunderbird is no big problem, but using only one email-client would be more comfortable (and I'd get rid of an extra icon in the dock ).
I did search the preferences, but not successful. That's why I'm here now.

IPhone Mail Sending from Different Accounts

I have taken a look and cannot see anything on this topic - but I am having trouble with my iPhone sending emails from different accounts.
I have 5 IMAP accounts setup for different emails. When I go to send from one account, it seems to send from my GMail account (which is first in my email list), this is also true for when I reply or forward emails from any of the 4 other accounts.
I thought this might be due to the default mail option in the settings, so I changed this to another account but it was still all sending from my GMail account. When I turned the GMail account off - all accounts worked fine independently.
Has anyone experienced this and know if its a setting somewhere? or a problem in general?

I am not sure - but I have had to disable the GMail for now so that I can send and forward from my other accounts. Its rather annoying that its defaulting to sending from the GMail account.
Do you think deleting the account and then re-adding it will make any difference?

Mail.. two different accounts have mixed... help!

Here is my problem... my pop account & .mac account have combined. Now, when I log onto my main mail ( pop ) it is in the .mac forum. I can receive mail but can not send any. I talked with my server tech for 1 hr & half, their settings are all correct. I did not upgrade to Leopard. Has anyone had this type problem. My crisis started yesterday morning (12/22).

So, for whatever reason, it cannot send mail through the pop account's SMTP server. That is why it is asking you if you want to try to send the message using another (.mac's) SMTP server instead.
Things to check: In Mail | Preferences | Accounts, for the troublemaker account, are you certain that the selected smtp server being shown in the pull-down menu is the correct one for the account, and that there are no typos or anything (if authenticated smtp, your smtp server name would look like mailout......com:lconley)?
Click on the SMTP Server Settings button. What port number are you using? Is the SSL checkbox checked? What is the type of authentication? Username correct? Try leaving password blank for now, once eliminated here and in Keychain Access (see 2nd following paragraph), it will add back in in both places if you check the "Save to Keychain" checkbox
Try searching your email provider's web site and see if you can find a link to directions to setting up your mail account that addresses the above issues. See if what is printed there jibes with what they told you over the phone and more importantly if it jibes with what you have entered in your smtp server setup.
If you make any changes here, go back into Keychain Access and delete any entries that pertain to that email account's SMTP server before you try sending email again.
One last thing to try, maybe. Is the email account from somebody other than your ISP (i.e., 3rd party)? And if so, might your ISP be blocking your traffic destined for smtp servers other than one of their own? That might be a likely cause if you are currently trying to use port 25. Many ISPs block port 25 traffic that is not destined for their server. You can check this by launching Terminal.app and typing telnet mailout......com 25. Substitute whatever port number your email provider said you should be using; 465, 587, being typical ones besides 25. You should see something that reads similar to this:
Trying {some.numeric.IP.address}.
Connected to mailout......com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 {domain name of some sort} ESMTP
Do a control-right bracket to get to a telnet > prompt, and type quit followed by <return> to exit
If you don't see any of that stuff, and instead just get a timeout message, then I would claim that either you are using the wrong smtp port number or your ISP is blocking traffic on that port.

Accessing the same mail from 2 different accounts?

I have two accounts set up on my Mac: Adminstrator (under which all my email accounts live); and a separate "writing" account where I do...what else...WRITING.
Is there any way to alter the mail preferences to allow complete access to the administrator's email from the writing account? This would allow me to check/send email using the SAME email accounts from either mac account (so I'd see the same inboxes and email folders and their assorted messages).

It can (you might want to ask whomever handles your accounts if they have considered IMAP. POP is simply not as flexible. Many major email providers use it as well as private ones. Gmail, MobileMe, AOL are all IMAP.)
Set both accounts up with the same information. Go into both of them and go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced and ensure that "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" is NOT checked. Otherwise you won't get all the messages in both places.

Receiving Mail form an HTTP account

can you setup a mail account in within Mail to receive mail from an HTTP account?
My email for my business account comes from my website and I don't see an option for creating an account to receive mail from the HTTP account.
is this possible?

Use Mail to send from a different account linked to Gmail

I use Gmail as my main personal email account and usually use with Mail via POP.
I also have Gmail set up to send from another account (my work address) which I can do by selecting a different "From".
This second email address is actually a MS Exchange Server mailbox, and I think the Gmail is just sending 'on behalf of' and getting replies sent to that address.
Is it possible to get the same results directly within Mail? (Not a huge problem if not, I can just log onto the Gmail website, but it would be nice to use Mail if possible).

I've had the same issue as you, and found this helpful.
Basically go into the Mail preferences and under accounts add the accounts (which Gmail gathers) that you want to send from to the "Email Adress" bar using a comma. For example:
Email Adress: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
Then a drop-down menu will appear when creating/responding to mail that allows you to select which account to send from.
It can't seem to automatically respond to emails using the address it was sent to unfortunately, which Gmail cleverly does. But it's a step closer.

I HAD two accounts because of this problem. I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client. Guess what is happening?? That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening. This is incredibly frustrating. When a recipient chooses to reply to my message, quite often I won't get it now because it is going to the other account that has now been deleted from my system. COME ON APPLE!!! I have been experiencing the same problem. My mail app won't even open on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. It will show as open, but the app will never actually show up.

I am using apple mail on my Mac and have two different accounts set up, one personal and one business. when i send mail a copy of the message is being saved into my business account swell.

Both accounts are Imap but the business one is Gmail and the persoanl one is 1and1. when i compose new mail in my personal account I make sure it says its going from my 1and1 account but for some reason the message appears in both sent boxes.
I need to fix this as I dont want other people using the business account seeing my personal sent emails!

Apple mail sent with one account but sends with a different account

I have 5 email accounts in Apple mail. I have what I call my main one and many times when I take care to send FROM that one, it will land in the recipient's mailbox sent by a different account. I have tested it different ways even going so far as BCC myself, checking to make sure it is sent out with correct one and it still ends up sending it with the secondary/wrong account. Any ideas? I cannot delete the secondary account as I sometimes need to use it for work. thank you in advance.

I have mine set to 993... but I did not set it... all i did was set up gmail, and it worked automaticlly. That might have been the port number in Lion... i dont know.
