Mail 4.2, snow leopard, mail without message content

New MacBookPro owner running Mac OS 10.6.2. Migrated everything from older Powerbook Titanium without thinking that through. All of migrated mail AND even new mail comes in with headers but without the message content unless I elect to "rebuild" the mail box each time. Is this a setting issue or what am I doing wrong? I have numerous mail addresses all being managed by mail. No problem on Powerbook but irritating with Mac Book Pro. Help?

rebuild your whole mail index. quit Mail and delete the file home directory/library/mail/envelope index. start mail and say yes when it asks to import your messages.

I run a minecraft serer, and i need a way to promote a player when they fill in a form on the website. Every time a player filles in the form, I get an email like this:
    New application for member:
    Naam:  <name of the pearson>
Username:  <minecraft username of the person>
Skype naam:  <skype name of the person>
    E-mail:  <email of the person>
Nieusbrief:  <Whether they want to get the newsletter or not>
I know there is a way to setup a mail rule that runs an applescript, and from that I can run a shel script, but is it posible to feed the playername to the shel script script as a variable? So from the mesage body to the apple script, and from the apple script th the shel script. First problem I face is getting the username to the apple script. Then there is the second problem: I know there is an run-shel-script thingy, but i'm not sure how to pass the variable on from the apple script to the shel scrip. (I don't have anny experience with apple scripts...)
    Anny help is appreciated.

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your reply.  I am glad to hear that I am wrong again )
In your opinion is it possible to force the Outlook Exchange server to add the content attachment every time?  I mean by doing some configuration on it...?
The reason why we would like to do this is because when - in the content tag of a Mail Package message - we have MIME message parts that are of content-type text/html we are having problems in decoding the html back to a readable format.
To do this we use the apache QuotedPrintableCodec Java class.
This works fine when the content type of the message is just text/plain but we get an exception when we try with text/html.
    The exception we get is:
org.apache.commons.codec.DecoderException: Invalid URL encoding: not a valid digit (radix 16): 13
I don't know if this is because of the two character sets we have in the payload (utf-8 and iso-8859-1) or if it is for other reasons...
If you could help me figure out how to forward any HTML email to another system in a readable format it would be great.
    Thanks for your support,
    Aldo

  • How to Upgrade Snow Leopard Server without erasing existing 10.5.8 settings

    Hi,
    Please Help,
How do I upgrade my MAC Leopard 10.5.8 Server to MAC Snow Leopard 10.6 Server without erasing (deleting) any server settings (running services) and without erasing my existing workgroup manager (workgroup accounts).
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Gulab Pasha

XServe Mac OS X (10.5.8) Imac

The following is what we did on a server we are testing to move to 10.6:
    -Back up your existing server.
-Make sure your back up will run if you need it.
-Insert the disk and install 10.6. (I did this on the backup since I was planning to have the server still running 10.5 for a while. I imagine you could upgrade either copy.)
It appears that if you already have a 10.5.x OS on the drive you install to, the files are, as you said, "upgraded" to 10.6. Settings, services and users are also "upgraded" during the install to 10.6 formatting as needed by the new OS.
We then turned the server on and accessed and used our services as we had in the past with the users we had set in the past.

  • Getting full Snow Leopard version without buying iLife package

I need to update my MacMini from 10.4 to Snow but I don't want to buy the full Snow Leopard + iLife bundled package. Any suggestions on how to buy just a copy of Snow?

    Martin Pace wrote:
I thought paragraph 2.C. was pretty darn clear that the upgrade version required a properly licensed version of Leopard to be installed on the computer.
Think about it. If this paragraph applied to the retail version of Snow Leopard, then the Box Set would not meet the license requirements for Tiger owners either, +since the Box Set does not include a licensed version of Leopard+.
As already explained (& really pretty clear from the wording of the paragraph itself), 2.C applies to those who have purchased +Leopard Upgrade+ licenses, for instance through the now expired Snow Leopard Up-to-Date program. There is no mention whatsoever of Tiger in that paragraph or in any other of the EULA, nor is there any mention of Tiger or even "upgrade" on the retail version's packaging.
As paragraph 2A should make clear, the EULA covers three different types of licenses, each with is own requirements. Users who bought the Up-to-Date disc know who they are -- they had to submit documentation directly to Apple to qualify for the offer, & the disc they get is clearly marked "Upgrade" to distinguish it from the retail disc, which is marked "Install DVD." The retail disc comes in retail packaging; the upgrade discs do not. The upgrade discs also have different wording printed on them regarding restricted reuse, resale, etc. They are bound to the specific Mac (or Macs, for the Family Pack Leopard upgrades) that qualified them for the offer, just like the original system discs are bound to the specific Mac they come with. By "bound" I mean that none of these discs can legally be bought or sold independently of those Mac(s). Retail discs are different: they are not bound to any specific Mac, but of course still require an appropriate license to use them.

  • Upgrade to Snow Leopard went without a hitch

i think it is fantastic. Got a new MBP too. Just working brilliant. Have been using Logic, Final Cut, Flash, Photoshop, and DVD STudio Pro all together and loving it.
Nothing hugely different but starting to notice things that used to annoy methat have been changed eg if you cant eject a disk cos something is using it - it now tells you what is using it instead o having to quit stuff and try ejecting again.
    Well done Apple.

I am glad for you tommy !http://homepage.mac.com/donv1/.Pictures/AniGifs/banana.gif!. I too have a new MBP, and all went well.
Some of the issues raised here are of interest to me. I have a related comment. Often we see impolite "answers" to posters who raise questions about using non-Apple software or hardware on/with Apple products. The one making the reply typically says something like "we don't provide support for non-Apple products here. Go somewhere else for your answer." Sometimes a link is provided.
I have never seen these sort of rude replies made in relation to any product other than an MS product. I think that this sort of bias should be rethought. The relationship between MS and Apple is a good one. Apple hardware often "gets in the door" at mostly MS shops and various educational units because MS Office is available for Macs. And, being able to run Windows on a Mac provides Apple with increased sales, increase user happiness, etc.
I want to note that the excerpt below from our "Help & Terms of Use" does not specifically preclude discussion of the relationship between Apple products and non-Apple products used on/with Apple products. Indeed, if it did, then we would not be able to discuss, for example, problems in using Photoshop with a Mac and problems using a Western Digital external drive with a Mac. My basic point is that our ability to support others on Apple products would be greatly limited if we could not discuss the relationship between these products and and non-Apple products including MS products.

  • I have OS X 10.5.8.  Can I load Snow Leopard without losing data and then upgrade to Lion?

I am using OS X 10.5.8.  I have a disk with Snow Leopard on it, but I don't know if I downloaded it.  Can I download this Snow Leopard disk without risking a loss of data on my MacBook Pro?

If by "download" you mean "install," then you can install Snow Leopard over a Leopard system. But anything can happen, so it would be wise to backup first.
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from the Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Install Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Boot from the Snow Leopard installer DVD.  Follow the onscreen instructions. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Any way to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard without a working CD drive?

I have an older MacBook (maybe 5 years old). I'm running 10.4.11. I was happy with that until I bought an IPad. It wants Snow Leopard. But I just dicsovered that my CD drive has stopped accepting discs. I've tried everything suggested to fix it outside of taking the machine apart.
How can I upgrade to Snow Leopard now without it? Can it be done at an Apple store? I don't have an external drive.

Snow Leopard comes on a DVD. I believe your Mac has a CD/DVD disc drive.
It's possible that your disc drive has some dust inside. You can buy a disc drive cleaner disc. Might fix it. If not, the best solution is to replace the disc drive. Another option is to buy an external disc drive.
That said, if you have access to another Intel processor Mac, you can use a technique as described in the following links.

  • How do I install snow Leopard?

    Greetings,
I had downloaded snow leopard to my Macbook and in order to install it, I need a cd, but I looked up alternatives and they said i can partition my hard drive. Im currently running 10.5.7 and whenever i try to partition my MAcintosh HD it always fails and i dont know why? Really need help here. Do I need to get a USB and do it from there to install it or do I just need to get another copy of Snow Leopard. Thanks!

Snow Leopard is on a retail DVD for under $20 from Apple Store.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Devices without an internal superdrive or combo drive can use a USB
external optical drive such as Apple USB superdrive, under $80 retail.
There is no download version for OS X 10.6, only steps to update the
main system. If your older Leopard 10.5 is updated to 10.5.8, then
you could use that as a second system. In order to partition a HDD
with an older system on there, you'd need to make a clone or copy
of the system (check it, be sure it can boot the Mac) and then you
have to erase the HDD in the computer, and reformat, partition, then
install the clone (reclone) on the partition. Make sure these partitions
have enough room for the OS X to run. Free-space on a hard drive
is living space for OS X. It uses space as Virtual Memory, it's essential.
You'd boot the computer from an OS X installer disc to use that as a
way to run Disk Utility, to partition a drive once you have cloned the
contents, as this will erase it all. Or if you replaced the internal drive
with a new larger one, and use Snow Leopard DVD to install a system
on a new partition made with its disk utility, it may work that way, too.
What kind of Mac computer do you have, specificially? Some that do
not have an internal optical drive would need an external DVD drive
that can handle system discs, not just music. I'm having to assume
you have an early MacBook from before 2009. It should have one.
There are several models out there that could run 10.6.8.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I install Snow Leopard on a partition in Lion?

I need my AppleWorks! This is what I've done thus far.
I have a brand new 21.5" 2.5 GHz Core i5 running Lion. I made a 20 Gb partition on which I would like to install Snow Leopard so that I can run my beloved AppleWorks. I NEED the drawing program.
I inserted a Snow Leopard install disk and restarted holding the C key. I get what looks like the Lion version of a Kernel Panic every time. It never goes to the SL disk.
When I just open the SL disk under Lion and try to open the SL install app I get "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X.app with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install (sic) Mac OS X.app 23.1."
I've also tried booting while holding the option key to select the SL cd and I've changed the boot disk in SysPrefs to the SL disk, all with the same kernel panic result.
    Any suggestions welcome!

The fact that you can't boot directly into the Snow Leopard disc without a kernel panic suggests that the SL disc you are using is not compatible with your hardware. Did your new machine come with Lion pre-installed and are you trying to use a SL disc that came from somewhere else?
Even if this is the case, there still might be hope. This support page
Mac OS X versions (builds) for computers
contains the following entry for the newest iMacs:
That indicates that your machine model was introduced before Lion was released, and originally shipped with Snow Leopard 10.6.6. Although it's possible that the hardware was changed for the machines that are now shipping with Lion, there is probably a reasonable chance that the hardware is the same, and that your machine can still run Snow Leopard. You would need the machine-specific OS X 10.6.6 Snow Leopard install disks that used to come with your particular model though - a retail Snow Leopard disc is OS X 10.6.3 and is too old for your machine, and an install  disc that shipped with a different model Mac won't work either. If this is your situation I would call Apple, give them your machine serial number, and see if there is a replacement set of Snow Leopard discs available for it.

  • I have a macbook 10.6.8 snow leopard, do I have to purchase OS X Lion in order to use iCloud on my devices?

I have a macbook 10.6.8 snow leopard, do i have to purchase os x lion for icloud to work on my devices?

“Apple may be working on a Mac OS X10.6.9 update to extend iCloud to Snow Leopard, an error message reveals,” MacNN reports.
“After upgrading a MobileMe account to iCloud, one developer says he encountered a unique error message in Tiger’s .Mac preferences pane,” MacNN reports. “‘You will no longer be able to sync with this machine because you’ve upgraded to iCloud,’ it begins. ‘iCloud requires running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.9 or later for Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks.’”

  • Why won't Lexmark T430 printer with Snow Leopard?

Lexmark T430 will not printer with Snow Leopard. Error Message: “The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance.”
The printer is connected via Ethernet from an iMac; I have an airport wireless network. Oddly, I can print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, but not from my desktop iMac. Both computers were upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time, but only the iMac refuses to print.
    Tried:
    -Reset printing system
-Downloaded Lexmark drivers and reinstalled them
-Connected printer directly to iMac instead of through the Ethernet switch
    -Repaired disk permissions
When ‘adding printer’ the Lexmark is recognized and configured, but it only results in the same tired error message.
    Suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hi,
A follow up on my previous report.
I installed 10.6 on an external USB drive and booted my iMac from there. Result: was able to print successfully to the T430, both via Ethernet and via USB cables. Previously, I also tried to print from the iMac (booted from the internal drive) via USB and that failed; although, as I said, I was able to print to a Canon printer. I conclude that there must be some conflict between the Lexmark drivers and something on my internal iMac hard drive.

  • Does Quicken 2007 Work on Snow Leopard?

I'm finally about to upgrade from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and wondering if Quicken 2007 will still work.
Is it compatible?  If so, is there anything I need to do so that my data transfers over and stays intact?
    Thanks

    Thanks Kurt.
Do you (or anybody else) know if my existing copy of Quicken 2007 will install and run on Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 (not Lion) without having to purchase the new Lion compatible version of the software?
Yes, Snow Leopard OS x 10.6.x still has the Rosetta translation software framework. Your exisitng (non Intel) version of quicken 2007 will run without issues on Snow Leopard. I have been running it since day one on my Snow Leopard installation without a problem. The just released Intel processor version of Quicken 2007 ($14.95) also runs just fine on Snow Leopard, or at least I haven't seen any issues pop up on my installation. I was waiting for the Intel version so I could proceed to upgrade to Lion. If you plan to eventually upgrade to Lion I suggest paying the $15 for the Intel compatible version. Meanwhile I continue to hold hope that Intuit will release a new version of Quicken for the Mac that will bring it up to date feature wise. Quicken Essentials is a bare bones substitute that I found unusable. I also tried demo versions of some other (like iBank) financial software touted as superior replcements for Quicken 2007. None got anywhere near close in my opinion. Others will disupte that opinion of course.

  • From Leopard to Snow Leopard Server

    Hello,
Is it possible to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard Server without loosing the files and particularly, without loosing the itunes libraries (including ratings)?
When I tried to do so, the installation program told me it was not possible to upgrade.
Therefore I installed the Snow Leopard Server and now I am not either able to migrate the contents using a previous Leopard Time Machine Backup.
    Can Anybody help?
    Thanks.
    Hugo

I have the same problem. There is no Migration Assistant in Snow Leopard server, only Server Migration. I am currently reverting back to the previous Snow Leopard setup (not the server one) by restoring the Time Machine backup after a clean install of the OS.
I think you can install the sever on a clean drive, the create an account then use Time Machine to restore the files into this account and into /Applications and such. But you will run into problems with some applications loosing their preferences if they are configured system wide etc...
