Mail 6 preview not loading

Hi,
The picture is pretty self explanatory. Sometime, not always but pretty often, mail won't detect that I selected a message and won't show it in the preview space. If I double-click on the message is opens and I can see it, but not in the space, so it's not because the message hasn't been loaded on the computer yet. Who can fix this?
Thanks

Okay - I fixed it.  Here's what I did.
- Deleted the entire mail folder inside my Preferences folder.  ~/Library/<userfolder>
- Kept the files in the trash just in case, but didn't need them
- Rebooted
- Opened the System Preferences
- Selected "Mail, Contacts & Calendars"
- Verified the previous account was gone
- Clicked Create
- Created a new account and then opened Mail
- Voila! Email
Note - if you trash the mail folder inside Preferences, it will delete any local emails.  All my email is IMAP and I never store anything locally, so everything syched right back when the account was recreated.
Good luck.  Hope this helps.

my mail system does not load image automatically. how does that happen? what should i do to set the image load configuration?

Although you can configure Mail to load HTML images automatically, you should think twice about doing it. The sender of the message could determine your email address, your IP address, and when you opened his message. Not what you want if you get spam, as most people do.

  • Lion Mail preview not loading / showing emails

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, the new Mail program is not working correctly.
It appears many of my messages (in the inbox, sent, drafts) only have the email address and header, and don't have any text in the actual email....so in the preview pane, it just says loading....and nothing loads.  I have seen others postings similar problems online.  I've tried some of the solutions, none worked.
I can send and received new emails - and they show up fine in the preview pane.
All the emails in mailboxes I've created On My Mac in mail are fine.
How do I get all my emails in the inbox, drafts and sent to show up correctly?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi DreamsPower:
I did not have any luck with the rebuild mailbox command, or other solutions posted online, so this is what I did to restore my missing mail:
    1) run time machine so I have a backup of my current Lion Mail programs data.
    2) deleted all the messages (inbox, drafts, sent, etc.) that would not show anything in preview window. Since I had sent and received a number of emails after installing Lion....and these new emails showed up fine in preview, so I did not delete them.
    3) opened up time machine backup to a date just before I did the Lion upgrade, and then restored the Mail programs data folder (users>library>mail) to my desktop.  This gives me a copy of the Mail program data files (all my emails) before the Lion System/Mail upgrade.  Then opened the appropriate mailbox subfolder folder (from the restored mail folder on my desktop), such as the inbox, and then opened the messages folder or folders in the inbox (there may be several and they may be buried in numbered folders).  The message folder(s) will have your emails (the emails will have numbers for names).  Then I just option dragged (copied) the email messages and dropped them in my Lion Mail programs inbox, and now my inbox has all my missing messages.  Did the same for the drafts and sent emails.  So now I have all my mail and they show up when previewed.  Since the messages in my other mailboxes were fine, I did not need to delete and replace them.
    Hope this makes sense.....

  • PDF's in Mail and Preview not displaying correctly

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite PDF's are not displaying correctly. Every time i generate a PDF of a sales quote it seems to lose a lot of information.
    But the strange thing is.....
Preview and Mail both show PDF with missing text.
When I open using "Quick Look Attachment" within Mail or Adobe Acrobat it looks perfect.
When emailed, recipients (mostly Windows users) seem to have no problem opening it and seeing all text.
So far seen that issue is only in Preview and Mail
Only has happened since upgrading to Yosemite
PDF is created using web based ZOHO CRM to build quotes.
See image below to see the difference in what Mail and Preview sees compared with how other apps open the same PDF.
NOTE: sensitive info has been purposely blurred on image.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Mail Options does not load

I'm running Messaging Server, with the information as follows:
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 1.12 (built Feb 13 2003)
    libimta.so 5.2 HotFix 1.12 (built 12:53:23, Feb 13 2003)
    SunOS red20 5.8 Generic_117350-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2
After an indeterminate period of time with the webmail client open, the Options page does work anymore. After clicking on the Options tab, the content changes to "Not found."
At this point in time, the issue can be resolved by simply restarting the mail server, however, a user must first discover that it's not working before the server can be restarted.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem or if there is a HotFix available for it?
    Thanks for your time,
    -William Chan

    Thanks for the response Jay,
This begins to happen for all users, immediately after they login. The messenger server can be running for weeks with no problem, and then this problem occurs. At other times, it can run for a matter of hours before it happens again.
I don't believe the user's session is timing out and we have had different users login on different computers to test it after we have noticed the options page not loading, and it's the same for all of them.
There are approximately 3 to 4 hundred webmail users, but definitely not all at the same time. I would estimate that no more than 1.5 dozen would be connecting at the same time. They all use https if that helps.
    Thanks,
    -William

  • Mac mail sometimes does not load gmail messages

Several times a week my mail will not load some messages. Most times it works fine. My iphone always gets the mail. What's up with that?

When you guys say turn ON and OFF, are you referring to "show in IMAP" checkbox in the "Labels" tab in gmail?  As superwhatever mentioned, Apple initially told me to make sure these are showing so that Mail.app picks them up.  If I uncheck "All Mail" and "Important" wont that just mkae Mail.app skip downloading thosemessages that are in Important and All Mail?  Instead shouldn't Mail.app's "Inbox" be set to also incorporate those message that are in Important and All Mail?  This was so much of a headach for me back when the original problem surface that I just stopped using Mail.app and purchased Mailmate.  Since then though, I'm missing certain key functions that Mail.app has and want to take another stab at resolving this.
On my iphone it shows that I have 18 unread messages for my company account, while in Mail.app it shows only 2 unread.  The other 16 are found in "Important."  how does this get fixed?

  • Mail content does not load

iPhone 4S with 7.0.4 occasionally the body of an email does not load. It's as if the email is blank. When the email has NOT been opened, the initial body (I'm set to 2 lines) displays perfectly. When the email is actually opened, nothing appears except the header ("from" and "to").

  • Mail 4.6 not loading one of 3 accounts

Suddenly yesterday, one of my 3 email accounts that I keep on Mail 4.6 is not loading. It is my most heavily used account - so sometimes it takes longer to load - but it tried all day and never completed. It links to a yahoo account - which I can get to via a browser. So the problem is in the mail utility.
I tried paring down the amount of mail existing in the mailboxes - both online and on my mac - but it doesn't seem to be helping.
I also noticed that my disk space was mysteriously disappearing. I started with 6Gb free - and suddenly I was getting messages indicating that I was dangerously low on disk space. When I shut down mail - and left it off for several minutes - the missing disk space reappeared.

6GB is not really enough - you should be aiming for 20. What disk capacity have you? Do you know what is using it?

  • HT4718 I upgraded to Mavericks and my mail application does not load and give an error screen.

Mail application does not work after upgrade to Mavericks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Lion Mail bug is not loading all mail. It continuously downloads.

My exchange email account is working fine and yet my gmail account is the problem. it loads the preview pane but when i select an email nothing loads. every time i open mail it acts as if it is downloading my entire imap account all over again. I have deleted the account and added it again in hopes that it would fix my problems but reading my google email is not possible with this application. back to sparrow.

For what its worth, I found this solution related to mail on another thread. Not exacltly the same issue but close enought that I gave it a try and it seems to have fixed the problem:
    From this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3195923?start=0&tstart=0
    1. Right click the Finder Folder in the Dock (and a popup menu will appear)
Hope this works for you as it did for me!
Recommended not by me but successfully used by me, here are the steps again...
    1. Right click on Finder icon in the Dock
    2. Choose "Go to Folder" in the popup menu
    3. Type in ~Library
    4. Open the Mail folder(s) until you find the V2 folder
    5. As opposed to what was recommended, I deleted all files and folders inside the V2 folder
(After all, gmail and iMobile have my mail history and details on file anyway)
    6. Restarted MacBook to be sure
    7. Started Mail and added my iMobile and gmail accounts... From there the normal world presented itself!

  • Mail and Preview not working?

Since upgrading to Lion, and then Mountain Lion, I have not had access to my mail through the Apple Application.
Everytime I click to launch Mail, all I get is the 'Welcome to Mail'. When I proceed to begin the upgrade to my mail database, it stays at about 25% and doens't move. I haven't even bothered to find a solution until today.
Also, my preview application has decided to jump off of a cliff as well. I cannot open any photos or pdfs or anything. The application will launch, pinwheel of death and then no windows appear. I apparently have quite a few open though.  I am thus left to force quit and use another program.
Has anyone else come accross either of these issues? What are your solutions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test Preview, at least, while logged in as Guest. Mail won't be so easy to test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Mail content does not load in Apple Mail 10.8.2 using exchange server

About 10 am this morning Apple Mail stopped working.  Initially, no emails could be sent or received even though connection doctor found nothing wrong with the internet connection.  At 4pm, email would load but with just the sender and the subject - no content will load.  Is anyone else having this problem with Mail?

Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger to OS X Lion
Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 computers to OS X Lion over your Wi-Fi or a wired network is not supported. However, if both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port, you can use Target Disk Mode to transfer your data:
Verify that both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port. Note that different model Macs may have different FireWire connectors, which will require an appropriate cable, such as FireWire 400 to FireWire 800.
On the Mac you want to transfer data from, Restart, and immediately hold the T key.
Wait for the FireWire logo to appear on the screen.  If it does not, restart and try again.

EDIT: Actually I realize you did follow these directions and if your drive is seen on the new Mac it should work. You're entitled to free Apple support with the new purchase, I'd give them a call.

  • Previews not loading in grid view (stacks) 10.6.3

Hi, I am having a rather odd bug with stacks: everything works just dandy (previews load) unless I look at a certain folder. If I navigate to the folder (in stack view) it will load maybe 80% of the item previews and then just stop (it loads different ones each time). After I have done this, no preview for anything will load other than folder icons (in stacks, that is), unless I log-out log-in or restart. I have tested this many times, and it is consistent. Cover flow still works, even after stack previews have stopped appearing. An annoyance really, but I still would like to fix it if possible, so thanks in advance for any ideas.

That's the point to where I was getting - without icon previews, the default icon for .m4v files should be the following:
(This was just taken from my wife's MacBook Pro, still on iTunes 10.6.2 but running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
Under Lion (10.7.4) and iTunes 10.6.3, the default icon (no previews) is empty white, which I do not believe should be - I had the above generic icon for .m4v files in Lion under 10.6.2.
Yet iTunes-associated audio files are fine: (from my iMac)
    Strange, isn't it??

  • Photoshop files locking up Finder (preview not loading) and empty photoshop files... 18mb!

    Hi all,
We've been having some problems with all of our Photoshop files recently. It seems to be a problem that's been duplicated throughout during the design progression.
When using finder to navigate through our design folders, it often locks up for 5 - 10 seconds per file while finder tries to load the preview thumbnails (and fails, showing just the psd icon). I checked compatibility was checked on save as. I also checked the colour profile was being embedded. On some files it wasn't so I checked this, but still having the same slowdown.
As a test I then deleted all the layers in the doc, saved it again - and even though the file only had one blank layer - it was 18mb in size!
I then made a new document of the same resolution, saved it - and boom. 120kb or so and preview works fine.
I then opened one of the problem PSD's with all the layers - dragged them over to a new document of the same size, saved it - and the file and preview in finder works fine.
Obviously there's something of around 18mb in weight in all of our old files that is causing a real issue with finder and previews. Other than layers (as there are none) - what could it be? We're using a mix of cs6 / cc and cc 2014.
Any help on this would be appreciated!

OK, that means that the Finder is having problems with that folder. That could be due to corrupt disk data structures, or you could be hitting some of the known (and not yet fixed) bugs in MacOS's Finder related to thumbnails and metadata parsing.
As for file size - other metadata (especially image history, and sometimes color profiles) can really add to the file size.
