Mail 7.0 (1822) Sending Mail Issues

In OS X 10.9, I consistently have issues when sending mail, the message seems to stall at the outgoing server for some reason and Mail forces me to select a different outgoing server.  After I select the same server as is already correctly configured, Mail.app finally sends the message.
Steps I've taken to replicate this issue:
Removed all email accounts from: System Preferences/Internet Accounts
Rebooted MacBook
Verified all accounts were removed
Rebooted once more
Added accounts back to Mail.app
Rebooted once more
Problem persisted so I repeated above 3 times before sending this message.
Problem will not go away!  I didn't have this issue in 10.8.x
Types of Mail accounts:
MS Exchange (config as Exchange, not IMAP)
iCloud (Mac mail)
GoogleMail IMAP account
Standard IMAP account

I installed Mavericks on my iMac as a completely new installation due to a replaced dead hard drive. I also have a powerbook with a standard Mavericks install. Both are updated to the 1822 build of Mail version 7.0. My host is 123-reg.
Recieving emails works fine. Sending is near impossible, yet strangely intermittent. However both computers will either work, or not, for no apparent reason. I have been in touch with 123-reg support who suggest it is due to the ISP ( in my case BT). My iPhone 5s meanwhile hums along happily which is on O2.
I cannot pinpoint any one change at my end that makes any sort of permanent difference. I have made all the normal checks and gone through the loops of changing ports and security etc. It sometimes works and sometimes don't. Everytime the error message is the same:-
Connections to the server “smtp.123-reg.co.uk” on the default ports timed out.
Activity monitor shows the turning Barbers Pole but just hanging there. Suddenly nearly all my messages were sent! I thought I might have done something my temporarily deactivating my account in system prefs/internet accounts. So I turned on my laptop, but that still would not work, nietehr would the iMac upon my return to it.
Activity monitor seems to show some very quick actions that I cannot read. I wonder if it is set to go too fast for the server to respond?
Hope this helps someone work out a fix as I need one as well.

Interesting db mail issue. If i click send test mail from sql mgmt studio, it works fine, but when i execute a SP to send a mail, it fails. One thing I noticed is that the "LastModified" column in the mail log shows the domain account when a test
mail was sent from mgmt studio, but show "sa" when the SP was used to send mail.
This is from SQL 2012, did not see this in sql 2008, looks like 2008 always used the service account.  any ideas ?
    Get this error:

    Thanks.
    Ranga

    Hi Ranga,
I also use SQL Server 2012. I send a test email through SQL Server Management and the last modified By “sa”.
If you used stored procedure to send a test email. Please use the command below:
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
    @profile_name = 'Adventure Works Administrator',
    @recipients = '[email protected]',
@body = 'The stored procedure finished successfully.',
    @subject = 'Automated Success Message' ;
I can both send test email through SQL Server Management Studio and SP. Make sure you have the right profile. Since you could send test mail via SQL Server Management Studio, please try again to send it via SP.
    Thanks.

I had an imap account in my iPad and my iPhone 4. They worked just fine till about Christmas. They act like they are checking the mail and it shows there is mail to come in, but it just goes back to saying checking mail.  Can't send mail either.

    Update to above question:
    Hello All,
To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

  • I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT

I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT. I have been to the Apple Store today. They did not resove my problem. Can anybody help?

Try this. Check the primary outgoing mail server username and password and make sure that they are in the settings even if it says that they are optional.
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails.

  • Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?

Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?

Any chance you use two step verification on your Yahoo account? If you've ever had to enter a code that was text messaged to you when you log into your Yahoo account on a new computer, then two step verification is probably on.
If that is the case, you'll have to generate an app specific password in the Yahoo web mail page and enter that as your password on your Apple Device instead of your standard password in Mail Settings.

i can receive mail but unable to send mail

I'm yet another person who upgraded to Maverick OSX. I'm now thinking, "BIG mistake". Mail was working perfectly. Then, last night, Mail stopped sending.
I've checked everything. Comcast servers are set up correctly. Mail works fine on my ipad, but will not send. It gives me a SMPT error of "Cannot send message using the server comcast.net--authentication rejected" Comcast.net (Offline). I can not get it back online. I've also tried the fixes here, but there is no info.plist by those names in my library!
Anyone have any other ideas how to get this working again? Apple's OS's have been pretty decently stable in the past. I had no thought that the upgrade would be so problematic. Live and Learn.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • I receive my "talktalk" e-mail OK but cannot send mail?

I receive my "talktalk" e-mail OK but cannot send mail?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Mail 3.6 not sending mail

I have an iMac running OS X 10.5.8 and with Mail 3.6 and outgoing mail is taking hours to days to go out.  This problem only came up a month or two ago, for no apparent reason.  Our other, newer iMac (OS X 10.6.8, Mail 4.6) has no issues sending or receiving e-mail.  Comcast is our service provider and has no reported issues.
Why is this happening?  We have deleted the connection and reconnected it.  We have re-set the ports per Comcast's instructions, and they match the other iMac's.  We have eliminated the chance that this is a wireless or Ethernet problem in our home.
The problem machine has 2GB RAM, while the Mac with no problems has 4GB.  Do we need to add RAM and upgrade to newer OS X and Mail version?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Connection Doctor gave the following red dots:
Top message reads: Could not connect to this Comcast POP server.  Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences.  Also verify that the server supports SSL.  If it does not, uncheck the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Adanced tab of Account preferences.
Bottom message reads: Could not connect to the SMTP server.  Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences.  Also verify that the server supports SSL.  If it does not, uncheck the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
Disk Utility is not issuing any S.M.A.R.T. errors in a Disk Verify.  Everything seemed to check out OK on that.
Activity Monitor: Sorted on CPU, not sure what I should be looking for here.  Largest users of CPU (the ranking moves around a bit) are Activity Monitor, kernel_task, HP Device Monitor, pmTool, and Google Chrome Renderer.
    System memory: 867MB free, 231MB wired, 768MB active, 176MB inactive, 1.15GB used.
Disk usage: space utilized 61GB, space free 236GB.
Console messages did not have any clues or repeating messages.
    Memory tab: no page outs
Thanks for the ideas.  I hope this helps give you further thoughts.

  • Mail app won't send mail, but it will receive mail

The mail app on my macbook pro and iphone will not send mail, but they can recieve mail.  I deleted both accounts and reloaded them and they still won't work.  After that I ran repair permissions and it found nothing wrong.  Has anyone experienced this problem and how can I fix this?

I had same problem with my MBA and Mac Desktop (don't have iPhone)...could receive but not send emails after Lion upgrade.  I only experienced it at home versus at work (inconsistently on both on my macbook air and my desktop mac).
For me the solution was when you compose an email there are two dropdown listboxes next to From:  ...in the second one select smtp.me.com:yourusername   Until Apple makes a change you might need to do that each time you send or reply to a message.
I think it has something to do with if you don't do that then port 25 might get used which can be blocked by a lot of ISPs.
Apple support helped me solve this problem and said it was a known issue they are working on.
Hope this helps with your issue!

  • N8: can receive mail (IMAP), but cannot send mail ...

    LS
Bought a new N8 yesterday. Configured the email (XS4All.nl) using the secure settings provided by the ISP.
IMAP works just fine, however SMTPS does not; it is impossible to send emails.
N8 was updated first to latest firmware version.
Within the outgoing mail settings the SMTPS mailserver requires SSL on port 465; however after putting in manually 465 as portnumber, closing the application, and opening the application again, going to the outgoing mailsettings, the port says "standard" again . In other words the manual input of portnumber 465 does not seem to be saved by the system.
This could be the reason for not being able to send mail, as the standard port will not work.
How can I be certain that manually typed settings are saved by the system (and be able to check that), as in this case the system seems to revert to its standard settings automatically?
My previous Nokia 5800 had no issues at all with the account settings of the same emailbox and worked flawlessly.
Thank you for your attention (and hopefully fedback on how to solve this issue).
    Kind regards,
    Lia
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Removal of email box, re-start of device, configuring "new" email box did not solve the issue.
All outgoing messages stay in the Outbox......
Anyone....notably someone from NOKIA (afterall it is their product.....),
    regards,
    Lia

  • Mail relay server preventing sending mail

Since I updated the latest version of the iOS I cannot send mail or relay to it using the apple mail app.  I get a message of "the recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying"
I can send mail fine just using a web browser.
Wondering if anyone has had this issue and found how to fix it.

There could be a problem with your Outgoing mail server settings and most likley have an Outgoing authentication error with your server. Make sure all your settings comply with your servers suggested settings for IMAP or POP3 etc. Usually located in options of the web version mail.
Most importantly make sure your username and passowrd are correct and added in the Outgoing Mail server
    Hope this helps!

  • Leopard Mail and Filemaker pro - "Send Mail" is s-l-o-w

When I upgraded to Leopard, I began having a problem with the "Send Mail" function in Filemaker Pro, even after I upgraded to the latest version. Previously, sending mail with an attachment to 300 BCC addresses went very quickly - about 10 seconds. Since Leopard, I have begun seeing each address get loaded into the BCC line, an operation taking 20 minutes or more. Has anyone else seen this, and are there any suggestions on how to remedy it?

    You might try this.
MAC Mail, for some reason, wants a DNS server setting in the network setup.
Under System Preferences, go to Network and add your DNS numbers for your ISP Server. Get the right numbers from your ISP. I did a search for "DNS" on the ATT/YAHOO member web site.
This fixes the slow checking and sending of mail....It also fixes problems where mail sends slow and may give Authentication errors.
I spent many hours on this and finally the answer was posted on this forum.
Public DNS servers are less likely to be changed. They have been tried and do work. Nobody knows why.
For Public DNS servers look at.

  • Receiving mail, but can't send mail with attachments?

    Hello,
I can't send mails anymore, I have been able to send some without any attachments (i.e. reply doesn't work as it automatically attaches the original text). This started 3 days ago. Also, my mail doesn't seem to recognize powerpoint and word docs., but I a know the people who have send me such files do not have VISTA. When I choose "open with" then it works. So I have 2 problems, one being moe urgent then the other.
    1) can't send mail with attachments
    2) .doc (word), .pps (powerpoint)attachments are not always recognized.
    thank you all!!!

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works
