Mail 7.1(1827) stopped connecting to gmail

So using imap with gmail.
All of a sudden accounts went offline, connection doctor keeps saying that mail cannot connect to SMTP/Imap server.
Tried to redo the accounts, no luck. (yes, using google provided settings)
Alternative mail programs (sparrow/airmail) with imap work ok.

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
imap.gmail.com
Launch the Network Utility application.
Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • Mail on mac air not connecting with Gmail

    Hello
I have a Mac Air and Mail has been working fine but stopped a couple of months ago. Same account still works fine on iPad and iPhone. I have not changed anything like passwords etc.and I can still connect with gmail via safari on this device. Looked at Connection Doctor and internet connection is fine but connection to IMAP and SMTP are saying connection failed and asking to verify username and password. That verification comes up when I first open Mail but the password is not accepted.
Has anyone else had similar problems.

  • Apple Mail stopped connecting to gmail

    Macbook Pro - OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks - Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6)
I swear, i did nothing. It stopped collecting mail (imap), but i did not notice until i got connection errors trying to send a message (SMTP).
Here is the smtp error message:
The server “smtp.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on the default ports. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
I tried deleting the account from the preferences and recreating it. Same problem. Since it is all automatically configured i did not try different ports. I wouldn't know which to try.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
Oddly, failure to connect when collecting messages is not throwing up an error. Here is the Connection Doctor details:

  • Mail 6.6 no longer connects to Gmail

I use Apple Mail (I think version 6.6, whichever comes with MAC 10.8.5 on the MacBook Pro I bought in April) for accessing my Gmail accoun. Over the past weekend it stop sending out-going messages but was stil able to download and read new message; then as of yesterday I can no longer download new mail. Whenever I start the application, Apple Mail asks for my GMail password, which I type in, and then it tells me that it cannot connect.  I use IMAP settings, and in the account settings it tells me that the outgoing server is offline.
My Gmail account is functional (I have full use through the Gmail website), and I can read and send mail from my iPhone, which I believe has the same settings for the account.  Thus the issue is with Apple Mail, which suddenly stopped working.  I have yet to completely delete the Gmail account and configure it again, as I am hesitant, given that my iPhone is still working, will solve the problem.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have 2 Gmail accounts and one sends out and the other doesn't. Both are getting incoming mail.
Does using SMTP or POP or some other configuration make a difference?
In reference to your specific issue, Gmail accounts can be configured as either POP or IMAP for incoming messages but the only protocol for outgoing messages is SMTP.
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the only protocol used for outgoing messages.
POP (Post Office Protocol) is for incoming messages.
IMAP (Internet Mail Access Protocol) is an alternative protocol for incoming messages
POP stores the messages on your computer while IMAP accesses messages stored on on the email server. IMAP is preferred when you access your email from several different devices such as your home computer, your office computer, your iPhone, your iPad. Wikipedia has good articles on all these different protocols if you want more information.
There are a lot of reasons why you may not be able to send from the one account including the way the account is configured at Google as well as errors in your setup of the account in Mail. Google tech support is not easy to contact but because of the range of possibilities they might be your best source for solving this issue.

  • Mail stopped connecting to imap Gmail

Looks like many others are having same problem:
OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 and Apple Mail 7.1 (1827):
Yesterday, Mail stopped synching with my Gmail account. Get the error "Unable to Connect.....
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “[name]@gmail.com” or try again.
The server returned the error: The server “imap.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.
I have verified password. I have used Network Utility to ping, lookup and portscan. No problems there. Good ping, etc.
This is really a pain. What else can I do?

  • Mail stopped recognizing my gmail and other, non-iCloud, accounts.  Anyone else have this problem?  No issue with the same software installed on my MacBook Air.

Mid morning, before Christmas, my iMac stopped downloading all mail from gmail and my personal domain. Only the me.com account is still functioning.  Thankfully I am able to access my mail on my MacBook Air but would like to get the problem resolved on my main computer.  Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Susan,
Can you loginto gMail's Webmail in a browser using the same login credentials?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
    Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:
    https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptch
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • Apple mail won't connect to Gmail server!

I am not sure exactly what has happened.  I have a year old MPB that is the glitchiest apple product I've had.  Mail slowly stopped connecting to the Gmail server and says my passwords are incorrect.  I have checked, rechecked, and even changed my passwords to ensure that the PW is not incorrect.  I have three gmail accounts and some of them worked up until today.  I cannot tell if this is a mac software issue or a gmail server issue.  I've been having some odd issues with my MBP so I would count that out as the culprit.  I double checked the files in Library/Preferences against an older backed up version and they seem to be intact.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mine stopped wotking on the 9th, under the mail app on the left hand side, if you have triangles with ! marks in them, perform a left click and start "Mail Connection Doctor" This may help pinpoing the issue.
Mine is failing at trying to connect on port 143.
This worked for me, go the accounts settings window and in each gmail account enter the following info
    Advanced Tab
    IMAP Path Prefix enter [Gmail]
If you then tick "Use SSL" this should make the port 993
Authentication shold be set to "password"
Then save these settings, finally email is received, hope this helps.
Let is know how you get on.

  • IPhone Mail App cannot connect with gmail iMap server

So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.
So I changed my gmail password.
No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)
Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too)
    BUT
I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.
Any suggestions before I call Apple for help?
    Thanks
    Barry

    I think so.
Actually I think I need to get the App Password for Mail on my phone. It generates the app password and I enter it into the password in the gmail setup for mail.
The problem is that when I hit next on that page, I get the message:
"my name" is already added" and I cannot proceed.
Before doing this setup I deleted my gmail account by tapping the email address and hitting delete in the Mail, Contact and Calendars setup..
but, there is something hiding in my iPhone that remembers my old gmail password (I guess) and doesn't let me proceed.
If I enter my gmail iChain password I get the same thing.
If i do this in airplane mode (no connection to google) i also get the same.
I talked to an apple care person who had me reset all my settings... still the same thing.
I am trying to avoid a gull reset of the iPhone, but that may be in the cards.
Going to go to the apple store and ask there, but i am not hopeful.

  • I'm unable to connect my Gmail accounts to Apple Mail.

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail.  I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5.  I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone.  I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password.  In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
    Here's what I've tried:
    Apple Side:
    -  Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
    -  tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
    -  Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
    -  changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
    -  closed and relaunched Mail
    -  Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
    -  set up and deleted accounts
    -  turned off gmail on phone and ipad
    Google Side:
    -  Enabled IMAP
    -  Not using 2 step verification
    -  Checked Captcha

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

  • TS3103 mail just stopped connecting yesterday morning.  It was up and connected and then just stopped.  I have deleted yahoo and iCloud accounts and added them again.  i can sign in directly to yahoo and iCloud but Mail will not connect.  any advice?

MacMail stopped connecting yesterday morning.  It was up and running and then failed and I have not been able to connect to yahoomail or icloud since. i have internet connectivity and can sign on to both yahoomail and icloud thru Safari.  I have deleted the mail accounts and readded.  still cannot connect.  Any advice?

I feel for you bro i had this same BS problem only a few days ago. I must have spent about 5 hours in total trying to fix it and this included perusing these forums for an answer of which none of the 'solutions' worked, i tried using it on other PC's of which none of them it worked. Tried sw reinstallations, SP/2 reinstallations/removals, hardware changes to USB blah blah nothing worked and its's not like i don't know jack about computers because I do.
Your even lucky because in my case all that was required was the latest FW upgrade to make my player COMPLETELY UNRECOGIZABLE by both the FW installation program and WMP0 hence I couldn;t even downgrade.... I removed the FW thinkin it was corrupt as exactly what you did but because of Creatives wonderful TQM I couldn't even put different FW on.
In the end I just sent it back for a return but now I'm kinda regretting doing so as reading these forums shows that there are 0 issues with this player that Creative simply overlooked and sooner or later I might get with one of them (headphones anyone?!). If the next one is a dud I may wait for the new iRi'ver h0 or somrthing.

  • Apple mail will not connect to gmail (POP)

    Hello,
For a week or so, Mail just will not connect to Gmail. Macbook Pro, Lepoard 5.8.
I tried deleting all accounts and creating them again but I get a message saying that the server is not answering.
This happened suddenly and Mail had been working fine for years... No changes in the Mac, no new software...No known general problem with Gmail. Gmail parameters set to POP as I'm using this instead of IMAP...
So right now All accounts have been deleted and I cannot re-connect....
Latest: even my Yahoo accounts do not work any more now.
Perhaps I should remove Mail and re-install it again ?
If so, how the h..k do I go about it as I'm no computer expert !
Please try not to be too technical as I'm french and do not really master PC language that well ...
    Thanks and regards.

    Hello, Marcredd.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Here are a couple articles that I would start with as they have some helpful troubleshooting steps.

This issue that you are experiencing sounds like two-step verification is enabled on your Gmail account.  I would recommend selecting the Gmail Help Center link and search for two-step verification in the link below.

My Apple Mail 4.5 has been working fine up until a couple of weeks ago.  I don't know what happened, but now it won't connect to Gmail.  It says something like port 993 time out?  I've been searching online to find solutions, but none of them seems to work.  I can still log in thru webmail and I've already checked to see if my POP and IMAP are enabled in Gmail settings.  Please help Apple Geniuses.  Thanks.

  • Mail stops connecting to server to receive mail

    Hello all,
I have two machines that have problems connecting to server and receive mail. One is a desktop with 10.5 (+updates) and another is a laptop with 10.5 (+updates).
The desktop is located locally in windows network. It is connecting to a Windows 2003 Standard server with Exchange 2003 Enterprise (+updates). Mail application is configured with IMAP account. After awhile Mail application stops connecting to the server. Connection Doctor window shows attempting to connect. Once the server name is changed to IP address of the server, the mail program can connect fine.
Server responds to a ping command with domain name, I can login through telnet and send the email while mail application is stuck connecting. It takes a long time to verify SMTP server name when the account is configured.
Same happens to the laptop but it is connecting through internet. There are Outlook clients that do not have any issues connecting (configured with IMAP).
Any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

Anyone still having this type of problem should look at Lee's solution here:
