Mail 7.2 OSX 10.9.2 sent message sound gone

I seem to have lost the "scwoose" alert sound when an email has been sucessfully sent from the MBP.  I cannot seem to find how to re-set it.

Hello Daryl,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I found another Apple Discussion covering the same topic, with a response showing it solved the issue.

I deleted a pop email account from mail.  How can I recover those sent messages without Time Machine?

    Thomas,
"Note that you were warned that this would happen and approved it.  When you delete an e-mail account in Mail, you are shown a message like the following:"
You didn't read my problem - I said I deleted a POP email account.  I always read the messages that pop up and in Mail when you delete a POP account - IT DOESN'T TELL YOU NUTHIN!  It just deletes it - which *** for me.  Fortunately, I had an iPhone and on that device I had about a 1000 messages that I could recover but on all my POP accounts I download them from the server onto my Mac so they were only on Mail (the really old ones that I wanted to keep.)  I had to move them into another directory one by one basically because when I would move 50 some of them would move and some wouldn't and I never did figure out that problem.  Basically the ones that would not move are the ones that were associated with my domain changes with GoDaddy, and there were a lot of those.  Have no idea as to why only those were resistant to moving but I can get all that data from GoDaddy anyway.
This thread is now moot seeing as how I've recovered everything I can and am going to just move on - and back up more often.  ;-)
Apple and Mail need to rewrite that program to include a WARNING MESSAGE when deleting an Account in Mail that says ALL YOUR MESSAGES ARE GOING TO DISAPPEAR NEVER TO RETURN IF YOU DELETE THIS ACCOUNT, SO YOU DANG WELL BETTER HAVE A BACK UP IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ANYTHING BEFORE PRESSING THAT MINUS SYMBOL!  ;-)

  • Mac Mail doesn't (always) find BCC of Sent messages

The MacMail search/Find feature does always display messages when searching for the bcc email address of sent messages.
It finds some, not others. I've spent some time on this but don't see any simple explanation. I wondered if it was related the formatting of the name/address with < and > characters.
A frustrating situation when you're trying to find critical info sent to freelancers.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Sent messages are gone (you can call me an idiot)

I installed extra RAM in my iBook G4 about 2 weeks ago. Since then everything has sort of been acting up, especially Mail, Safari, and Photoshop, as they quit frequently.
But my obvious main concern here is Mail. I looked up other user forums on the Internet and found that if you delete your .plist mail file that it would help with this problem. I did it for Safari first and it seemed to help, so I then did it for Mail. I deleted the .plist, restarted, and was in shock when I opened my Mail to see everything gone.
Now, I realize this is a lame mistake. However, I figured out how to restore my messages, preferences, etc. I have been working fine until tonight when I tried to access previous sent messages. Instead of showing the message, there is an error message that reads:
"The message from Nancy Randle <[email protected]> concerning “Re: a favor” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
The only thing I can think of is that it has reverted to the new account I created to archive saved messages. Is there a way for me to revert back? Is there a way to find these messages? I have tried to find them in my Library, but with no luck.
My biggest concern is with my sent messages, but if anyone has any advice on the RAM install, that would be (OH!) so helpful.
    Anything would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Nancyjo
did you backup the home/library/mail folder before you trashed the .plist ?
If you did - the old messages can be recovered.
If not - & you've searched the mail folder in vain for your sent messages - then short of some data recovery software - they're gone.
But the new account you created - is it exactly the same ( mail server & user name ) as your old one? if not, your messages may still be available.
Look in home/library/mail/mailboxes for a folder that matches the old account details ( if a pop server it will be 'POP-your username@your mailserver')
If the folder is there - in addition to the folder for the new account you made - then you're probably in luck.
Make a copy of the whole mail folder first, & the mail.plist file.
In mail - Create a new account with exactly the same details as the one that vanished.
select the inbox or sent folder for the account you just made
    choose mail-mailbox-rebuild
If that doesn't do it, but you find the missing messages within the mail folder - they can still be recovered. Let us know how you get on.
if things go screwy while you do this - quit mail & in finder replace the mail folder & plist file with the backup copies you made before you started. start mail again & you should be back where you were.
Regarding the RAM - barring coincidences, it sounds like a ram problem. Double check that all the ram is physically located properly & try again. If you still have problems - remove the new ram. If the problems go away, the new ram is either faulty or incompatible.

  • All my Sent Messages are gone!

I have all my Sent messages locally on my laptop, as well as on .Mac; around 700-800 messages. Yesterday, all was well. Today, I tried to access a mail I had send earlier and Mail said something with the mail not being accessible offline and that I had to set the mailbox to ONLINE. Right, that was not possible, as ONLINE was grayed out. I set it to OFFLINE and then set it to ONLINE.
Now, all but three messages are gone! I don't see them on .Mac and they are not on my laptop, I think.
Can somebody please help me with this very big problem?

Beside your inbox and Sent folders (on the right side) is there a triangle?
If there is, click the triangle to go "online"
If it is not there, and you did have messages for awhile, I suggest trying the rebuild option if you haven't already done so. You can do that by click on Mailbox -> Rebuild
Alternatively (if this is an IMAP account), you could delete the account and re-add it.

  • Inbox and Sent messages are gone?

Messages in both inbox and sent messages prior to mid-November of 2011 are gone. I had thousands of messages going back several years, and they're gone. I didn't delete. This is the case for both gmail webmail and for Windows Live. I have no idea what has happened. Is there any way to recover these messages? Thank you

    Hi,
Firefox and other browsers can only display the emails. All the content, emails, settings etc. are stored at and received from the remote site/server. If an add-on is being used with Firefox, you can try to check its '''Options''' in '''Tools '''('''Alt '''+ '''T''') > '''Addons''' > '''Extensions'''. Otherwise you may have to check the mail archives in Gmail and Windows Live sites. You can also check the trash/deleted folders in the respective mail sites for any mails that may have been manually deleted within usually 30 days.

  • Hello I've just set up my new 'mail' account but it is not saving sent messages. Have I put the wrong control on somewhere? Thanks.t and it is not storing sent messages

Grateful for help in helping me to save sent mail.

If you used the same Apple ID as previously then you are using the same iCloud account.

  • Mail quits when trying to open one sent message

I finally deleted it with a few others, holding down the cursor. But when I tried to open this one out of eight new messages, it kept quitting. It was from a regular sender, so my instincts tell me it might have been tainted.

    Hi Jenny,
If you are still having this problem, try going to a web based email server (such as mail2web.com) and retrieving/deleating your mail from there.
Delete any and all suspicious mail from the server, send yourself a test from there, then go back to Mail.app and see if everything is working normally.
If that does not solve your problem then you have a "glitch" on your end.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • HT204389 Mail & Text Message Sounds Gone When Using Siri

The confirmation "vwoop" or "swoosh" that would annunciate a message or text being sent by Siri stopped working. I am blind so this feature is important to me.
I took my phone to an AT&T corporate store and they had a replacement sent to me. The problem remains even with this new iPhone, and after further investigation it appears this may be related to an iOS update, as others I have spoken with also say they lost that sound after Siri sends a msg or text. This phone is running 6.1.2. Is this a bug or what?  Will this be addressed in an update?

Just tried that, and no go. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I got a message from the head of service where I take my Mac for repairs, and he says Rules never work for him, that it just messes up and disappears his messages.
    Any other similar experiences?

  • Mail.app sent messages disappearing

With Mail.app version 8 on Yosemite with only iCloud email service configured, I am noticing that certain sent messages do not actually send even though you hear the 'swoosh'.
When looking in the sent folder, the message is nowhere to be found and I confirmed that the recipient did not receive it. Further, when I click on the little reply arrow from my Inbox in the following picture...
I get the the following error.
Both times that this has happened to me, I attached a PDF that was annotated with Preview.app.
I've logged a bug with Apple (Ticket 18764280)
Hoping someone in the community can shed some light on this.
    Cheers

Ok, this brings me a step further. So, on the web mail page I see:
    Inbox (964)
      Deleted Messages   (leeren)
      Drafts
      Sent Messages
      Apple Mail To Do
      Notes
      SENT
      Trash
So, my mail.app on my local OSX serve is using "SENT", my mail.app on my MBP is using "Sent Messages".
I didn't find a way how I can tell mail.app, which folder to use on the IMAP server to store sent messages in. Is there a way to configure this?

  • Empty Sent Message File in Mail

hi folks!. i'm having this problem: Mail doesn't show any of the sent messages i wrote. The sent messages file is there in user/library/mail/pop acount/sent messages and contains a copy of every mail i've written. anybody knows what's wrong? I'll appreciate your help here. Cheers. Luciano

    Hi Luciano.
The problem is probably that the mailbox has lost the .mbox suffix in the filesystem. Did you at some point try to manually remove that mailbox from the mailbox list?
Please, report more accurately what you observe. Is the name of the mailbox really “sent messages” or is it “Sent Messages.mbox”? If the suffix is missing, quit Mail and rename the folder to Sent Messages.mbox. That should fix the problem.

  • Updated iPhone Software to vers 2.0. Now "Sent" messages & folder are gone

*Just downloaded (40 mins) & installed iPhone Software version 2.0.*
Contacts/Phone/Bookmarks/Music Library/Picts are all OK. _PROBLEM IS I've lost all my Sent Email messages and Sent Folder for each mail account and no longer have access to any messages sent from my iPhone_. It's ironic because during iPhone 2.0 update, there was a message about backing up mail/contacts/picts et al. After update & firmware update, iTunes restored info to my iPhone, but all sent messages are gone. Everything else appears to be OK.
*Does anyone have any idea how i can retrieve them.* (Seems if they were backed up to iTunes, that it should be possible to restore the same information).
[I turned off "Push" by navigating on the iPhone:SETTINGS>FETCH NEW DATA>PUSH- "off". Since turning PUSH off, new sent messages (i.e. after 2.0 upgrade) appear in sent folder, but older sent messages are still missing in action.
Your thoughts & comments are greatly appreciated!
    Geoff

This may be odd... responding to my own posting, but for anyone with similar issue, I just spoke with the people at "1-800-myiphone".
Result: "Sent Messages, and Sent Message Folder are both temporary, and are not part of itunes/iphone syncing or backup features".
To restore the prior Sent Messages that existed in the earlier iphone software version 1.14 is impossible as messages are not stored on AT&T's servers, and iTunes does not sync "sent messages." The only work-around to re-populate missing sent messages is for the recipients of those messages to forward messages back from their computer, not their iphones, (Remember iPhone strips attachments from forwarded messages, therefore recipients who have iphones must 'forward back message from their computer only).
After migrating to iphone software version 2.0, it is a really good idea to do a "Bcc:" (Blind Carbon Copy) to onself on all future messages. That way messages will arrive in your 'inbox' which can be synced and restored via iTunes software.
In short, I think Apple is using a technical glitch in it's software update to coerce users to use the "MobileMe" service that Pushes and syncs messages to an iPhone and the user's other computers.
Hope this posting is helpful to others.
    Sincerely,
    Geoff

  • All sent messages gone?

A few days ago (9/1/2008) I checked my sent box in mail, and all my sent messages were gone. I think everything was normal before when I checked it a few days earlier (8/27/08). I can't find any place to ask about missing email... Who do I contact?
Thanks for any assistance in advance.

For some reason this system won't let me edit my original post...
Edit: Now that I remember, I was having issues when I was removing my mail account from my old laptop three weeks ago ... I deleted files in Mail's library folder, and thought that was all I needed to do to disassociate Mail with my account (since that's how apps in linux work); however, I didn't realize that .Mac (now MobileMe) was still set in the system preferences, and for some reason Mail kept on syncing my mail account. I didn't lose any messages in my inbox, but could this have caused all the mail in my sent box to be deleted? I never actually deleted the messages within the app, so I'm not sure why Mail would delete only sent messages and not messages in the inbox.

  • Sent messages disappeared

I have two computers, a new Intel Imac on 10.7 and an old PowerPc MacBook running the final OS for that. My Apple Mail checks both my IMAP server for work and my .Mac account and both lost substantial chunks of Sent mail a couple of days ago. I don't even know where to begin looking for what might have happened. There are many folder on the IMAP account but only the Sent mail has been effected. Any ideas?

Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > INBOX.mbox & Sent Messages.mbox.
Move the INBOX.mbox and the Sent Messages.mbox to the Desktop.
When re-launching Mail, a new INBOX.mbox and Sent Messages.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when received and sending the next message with this account.
This will allow the Mail.app to function properly again and not risk losing any new received or sent messages with this account while working on the old INBOX.mbox and Sent Messages.mbox files to recover the existing messages.
Control-click on the INBOX.mbox and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents. In addition to the package content file names, please provide the size of each package file.
Repeat for the Sent Messages.mbox and provide the same for this mailbox.
