Mail 7 standard-violating localized subject line

With Mail Version 7.0 (1822) Apple has introduced a horrible standard violating localisation of the "Re:" we are used to at the beginning of subject lines in email responses. In German "Re:" gets replaced by "Aw:" an abbreviatiob of "Antwort" which translates to "reply". Most English-speaking users may have never heard of this, but this "Aw:" nonsense was originally introduced to Mac OS X by Microsoft Entourage 2004, only to be removed quickly after massive user protests.
I don't know what Apple was thinking when they decided to have subject lines start with "Aw:" and frankly I don't care. I want this standard violation gone. The sooner, the better.
How can I fix Mail to show me a proper "Re:" instead of a standard violating "Aw:" in the subject line?

It is only bold if the message hasn't been opened from within Mail. You can select as many bold messages at once and mark them as unread to make them no longer bold.

Whenever I forward mails I get only the subject line as forward All attachments and text is blank

I am currently using Windows 7 - 64 bit as my operating system. Previously this was not the case. But after I changed my operating system, problem started in forwarding my mails. Whenever I forward my mails, Only the subject line is filled. All the text, attachments and pictures from original mail are not carried alongwith.

Close out of the camera app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
Then do a reset, no data loss. Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Then check your camera roll again.

Group address (from mail list) is added to subject line

Just this week-without changing any settings-emails that are sent to a mailing list show the addressee in the subject line as well as the address, but in brackets, i.e. address [email protected] / subject -[[email protected]] great news!
I checked with my ISP who hosts our mail and they thought it might be a virus attached to address book or mail program.
Can anyone help? It is a problem in annoyance only, altho it interferes with searching.

That is very unusual. You might want to check with the mailing list administrator and see if anything has changed there. Is there anything unusual about the way you create and send these messages?

Hmph, obviously they haven't got the slightest clue what they're talking about. This might be true with a Windows machine, but there is no such virus on Macs. You can safely set this worry aside.

Mail subject lines blue or disappearing!

My Mail is acting weird for about a week now. Two things.
1. Large numbers of the subject lines in the top panel where my mail is listed will turn blue. They'll turn back to the normal black text sometimes either when I scroll or restart Mail.
2. The subject lines started completely disappearing today! They're still there, as if in white font on white background and I can still click on them and read the email, but they're invisible.
Is Mail malfunctioning because it can't handle thousands of saved emails? That's a bummer if true. I thought I could use it like an archive.
I searched the communities for answers first and read something about "rebuilding" mailboxes which I'd never heard of before. If that's what I need to do can you direct me to complete instructions. I don't want to lose my emails.

Not likely too many eMails doing it.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
If you want to Rebuild a Mailbox...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
In Mail, highlight that Mailbox, under Mail's Mailbox menu item, choose rebuild.
Reboot.

Missing Subject line for the Approval Notification Mail

Hi,
We use CUP 5.3 SP7. We have configured the system for role based approval. We found that the approval notification mail being sent without any Subject line. It's configurable to set the admin mail id, but couldn't find one to set the Subject.
We get the following content in the mail....
View <http://<host:port>/AE/index.jsp?verifyApproverLogin.do........................>
Can we set it somewhere from the configuration?

Thx for your reply..But i think you missed my point...Let me try to explain it again...
When we submit a request, the system triggers a notification mail to the approver(s). And this mail seems to be missing a Subject line... and it's shown to be sent from the System E-mail id we set at the SMTP server config.
I couldn't find a tab for setting the E-mail format for the first approver neither at the stage nor in the e-mail reminder configuration.
Perhaps, setting the next approver will help if i had a secondary approver. But we are using a single stage WF in CUP. Am i missing some config step here?

Subject line 'space' character is lost when sending mail?

Hi,
I'm using JavaMail, and when sending a mail with a subject line that is longer than 62 characters, the last space before the 63rd character becomes a linefeed. This means that when the recipient receives the e-mail, the space in the subject line is actually dropped (becomes a linefeed).
For example. I send an email with the following subject line: "New User Setup [ITNUS-0005] User Setup Progress Report for: Louise Gans".
The recipient will receive the following subject: "New User Setup [ITNUS-0005] User Setup Progress Report for: LouiseGans".
Note the missing space between "Louise Gans". Perhaps someone could test sending out that subject line, and see if they get the same problem?
Looking at the message source on the recipient client, it shows a line feed / new line where that space is supposed to be.
Using MS Outlook or GroupWise or another mail client, the subject lines gets sent through perfectly using the same mail server (Groupwise Internet Agent 7.0.3), but using JavaMail to send the mail through that mail server gives me the space problem.
Can anybody shed some light on why this is happening? I would really appreciate the help.

The header is being "folded" as described in RFC 2822 section 2.2.3.
The folding doesn't lose the space if unfolding is done properly.
Perhaps the recipient mail program isn't handling unfolding properly?
If so, please report the bug to the owner of that program.
If you need to work around such a buggy program, you can set the
System property "mail.mime.foldtext" to "false" to disable all folding
in JavaMail.

How can I reset cursor to left on subject line

Composing e-mail OR forwarding..the subject line cursor is offset to the right instead of on the left of the subject box. This just occurred recently from my memory. Ran AVG virus check with nothing found there. Any one know how to get the cursor reset in Verizon Yahoo e- mail?

I have not heard of that issue before. I used my Verizon Email account and I could not find a way to change or modify the default subject line cursor. It could be a browser issue. You can try to delete the cookies, or reset the browser back to the default settings. If you use Internet Explorer you can delete cookies by going to <Tools> then <Internet Options>, while in the internet options you can go to the <Advanced> tab to reset the browser back to default.

PO Subject Line Change

Hi SAP Gurus,
My client wants to change the PO Subject Line for Automail triggered to vendor when PO is sent.
I have made the necessary changes in Message output Type ZINV in Mail Title and Text with new subject line.
Then i created the PO and automatically by assignment Message output Type ZINV got selected and saved PO. Automatically mail got triggered to vendor with OLD subject Line which i checked BY SOST Tcode.
Again i created the PO and this time I manually added the same Message output Type ZINV in PO and mail got triggered to vendor with NEW subject Line..
My question is why this happening. When message o/p type is selected automatically in PO mail gets triggered with OLD subject line and when we add up the same message o/p type manually mail gets triggered with NEW subject Line.
I want to have NEW subject Line when the message o/p type is selected automatically while PO.
Why this happening? Am i missing something.....?

If there is no condition record maintained then how come sytem is determinig the message type. are you working on the same PO, Please check all the key combinations being used if there is any condition record exist.

I am using LC8 and I have created a form with a submit button for e-mail. I used the regular button instead of the e-mail from the previous posts that I have read. I have it set to "mailto:" so the user filling out the form will need to enter the e-mail address. How do I prepopulate the subject line with some standard text instead of the name of the pdf? Also, is there anyway to have the pdf document renamed by pulling the data from one of the text fields?

Alter subject line in mail sent to candidate.

i have a requirement in sap e-recruitment to customise the smartform for acknowledging candidate application.
i am using HRRCF_CS_IT_APPL_INVITATION as the reference for my custom form.
This smartform is sent to the candidate via email. The subject line is automatically picked up from the Smartform ->formattribute-> meaning field. teh problem is that this field is restricted to 30 characters only.
Is there an enhancement or a note available through which i can alter the subject line(have a longer subject line) of the mail?

many customers want to change the standard subject creation. The implemented logic to get the email subject from the smartform is just not practical as it is not only too short but also smartforms are described in a way the recruiters and devlopers like for easy handling e.g. "rejection - candidate blacklisted" and you probably do not want this to be the mailheader the candidate reads :o).
The easiest way to change the subject is enhancing the method set_subject of class CL_HRRCF_CS_DOC_CAT_SF_SUPER. I usually place an implicit enhancement at the methods end and add the coding I need, so it overwrites the standard processings. In simple cases customers use a fixed but language dependent subject like "Your application at company xyz". But you can also put more complex stuff there by using the activity member attribute to get activity types or navigate to read requisition data.

Me32K - Need to change the mail subject line, attachment name

can u please throw light on the below three points which needs to be achieved.
1. Subject line of the mail needs to be modified from standard to "PO# XXXXXXXXXX".
2. Attachment name should be updated from stanadrd to "PO_XXXXXXXXXX".
3. Also by default mail will be delivered to the default id, but it should be delivered to multiple mail ids maintained in the vendor master.
I should achieve the above by user exits or by Zprogram copying from th standard.
Please advise me.

We have written a mail client using java mail API and it works fine. Some body sends the email with subject line contains German chars(using some other mail client like outlook)
and our mail client is running on the machine whose Local has been set 'German'.
Now, while getting the subject line

Mail Subject Line BOLD

I don't remember the defaults for mail to have every subject line bold in my inboxes. I have checked "Rules" and I don't have anything to due with bold. Is this standard to have every subject line bold or can I somehow turn this off? It's pretty annoying. Thanks

Apple mail incorrect subject lines (IMAP)

I've seen a couple of suggested fixes for this issues but nothing seems to be working.
Specs:
Running Version 6.5 (1508) of Mail
OSX 10.8.4 on MBP 13" Retina
The issue that is becoming more consistent in occurance is that the subject line for an email may contain the body of an unrelated email (attached example). Note that I use a great deal of Rules to route mail messages to their appropriate folder. This issue just started about 1 week ago.
I have tried:
1. Rebuilt the inbox and various folders where the issue seems to be more common too many times to count
2. Synchronized my inbox
3. Deleted all "Envelope Index" files within ~/Library/Mail folder
4. Deleting and recreating my Mail account
If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great. Not having an Apple friendly mail client that has no issues speaking with my Contacts and iCal is extremely problematic.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
