Mail abruptly quit working

I am not sure where to begin though the mail service on my server appears to be running but is delivering NO mail to any client.
Outbound mail appears to leave but never arrives?
I know that it is Halloween but this isn't a Halloween joke.
Thank you!

  • I have a old imac OSX.4.11.  Lately my .mac mail account quit working and rejecting my password, even a reset password

I have an old imac with the swivel flat screen-OSX4.11.  My .mac mail account has quit working--it rejects my password--even a reset password.  Connection Dr. says to "make sure username and password are correct", over and over.  Help!

    Hello,
Did you change it over to iCloud yet? It does work in 10.4.11
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac/.me mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • My att/yahoo mail account quit working on my home M/B Pro after my iphone was linked to the account.

Several weeks ago my work upgraded my phone to a I Phone 5S and linked the phone to my work and home E-mail accounts.
The phone works perfectly to send and receive both, but my home M/B Pro mysteriously quit linking to my ISP:  Att.net (Yahoo) account.
    Suggestions?
Is there a more user friendly E-mail program other than Enourage 2008 for my mail account.  (Extremely impossible to move users, saved emails, settings up to new upgrades / installs.

There are no viruses or trojans affecting iPhones unless your phone is jailbroken or hacked.
"Losing" email account passwords is not that rare and can be caused by a variety of factors that corrupt data - that's why you should be frequently backing up and syncing the phone.  Just reenter your password.

  • Mac intel computer OS 10.6.8, mail has quit working.

Every time I click on the icon on the tool bar, it has to import my mail. This takes an hour to complete. I then click done. It goes to the mail page and freezes.  I have the rotating rainbow.  Beside each of my inboxes I have a blue circle with a squiggle in it.  I have done this several times. The only way to get it to stop is to force quit.  Then I have to go thru the import process all over again (another hour) only to have it freeze again.  I really don't want to have to log into each individual account every time I need to read my mail.

Could it be that I need to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    No.
Delete the mail account, making sure to delete the SMTP server settings too, and start over again:

Pay particular attention to the part about selecting IMAP over the default suggestion.
There was an issue with servers this morning, but it now appears to be okay. At least for me anyway.

  • Mail has quit working

    iMac OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
When I open mail the message viewer does not show. I can open the message viewer from the windows tab, but none of my previous messages are present. The connection doctor just keeps pinwheeling and does not show any activity. I am not receiving new messages. Many of the commands are grayed out, including quit mail.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • "Find" and "Spotlight" abruptly quit working. Suggestions?

I've scoured the forum, have seen a couple of suggestions, which don't seem to apply to my situation.
As far as running "commands" - that's high level programmer stuff. I'm a WYSIWYG user.
I've leaned so heavily on "Find" and "Spotlight" to locate files I need, that I'm now rendered very handicap. Please help! Thank you.

    One possible fix:
Go to System Preferences -> Spotlight. Switch to the "Privacy" tab. Drag your Macintosh HD icon (or whatever you have named your hard drive) into the field. That tells Spotlight not to index anything on your hard drive. Then, highlight it in the field and click the minus sign. That tells Spotlight to start re-indexing the hard drive.
After some time--it could take, literally, hours--your HD will be re-indexed and Fine and Spotlight should hopefully work again.

  • TS3276 MacMini 10.6.2 Desktop e-mail has quit working after the scrapping of MobileMe. of

    Help.
After receining multiple assurances that my e-mail woud be integrated seamlessly, It clearly was not.
It APPEARS the problem resides in a new format or address for the IMAP & SMPT servers, or Port selections.
Can anyone, anywhere privide me with what data and what format is required to elimnate these possibilties.
I have exhaustivly scavanged support & help documentation as best as I'm able.
The precise address' & formats are provided for Windows users, though I believe they a for marrying e-mail
    to MobileMe.
    Thank You for your consideration.

HI, I just got a Macbook Pro.  It's great but my mail doesn't work at all.  It will come up correctly, but take forever to download messages,  then won't delete them,  then won't save them to folders.  Then when I go to quit mail it's like it gets stuck between quitting and not.  I have to force quit, then restart my computer if I want to pull up my mail again.  How can I fix this?

If you just got your new MBP you have phone support from Apple (which is quite good) call them.  800-692-7753 tell the automated answerer "mail technical support" you'll have human quite quickly.  Hope this helps.

  • Mail quit working in Snow Leopard 3 days ago on both of my iMacs. I can't find a solution.

    Greetings:
3 days ago my mac MAIL quit working. I get an (repeated popup) error message indicating that my password is invalid. Is thjere a solution to this issue?
    Thanks!

You should continue to dry it in rice for a week and change the rice daily.
All you can do is dry the iPod. Turning on the iPod before it is dry can can cause permanent damage.

  • Why did my email auto fill quit working with Yahoo mail?

This week my e-mail address auto-fill quit working with AT&T Yahoo, but still works when using the Safari browser on my Mac. Actually found 22 posts dating back to a year ago for people having the same problem, so guess this is ongoing and happening randomly. Is there a fix, or do I have to abandon Firefox and go back to using Safari?

I have this question too. My iphone 5 is new from t-mobile, and I restored it from my own backup on my factory-new laptop. I am curious who this person is, and whether my "new" iphone may actually be refurbushed?

    Hi,
Are you running on a Windows system?
    If so, try this.
Use the windows explorer to navigate to one of the following files according to your system.
    64bit system: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
    32bit system: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Right click on that file and select Run as Administrator then try your email again.
You should only have to do this once.
    Good luck

  • Mail spell check quit working

Spell checking in Mail on my iMac has recently quit working. All the settings are enabled the same as they always have been to check the spelling as I type, including that setting in Mail Preferences. I am using the most current OS and Mail version 4.3.
No matter what word I type misspelled, even the most obvious misspellings, it WILL underline it in red but when you click on it, it says No Guesses Found. Meanwhile, spell checking works just as it should on my MacBook.
    Any ideas anyone?

Yes, that seemed to work. Thank you!
Sorry--in my first post, I said "I have it set to check mail as I type. " and I meant "check spelling as I type."
    Thanks again.
