Mail Account Deleted help!

Hi all,
I stupidly deleted a pop account from my mail to make it imap so all my messages have been wiped.
I thought they would stay in there for some reason (sorry bit dense with all this!)
Have those e mails gone forever? it didn't warn me of this it just said are you sure you want to and that was all.
Is there anything at all I can do? Im desperate to get those e mails back.
thanks so much for any help,
from a rather stupid feeling Gem

Hi Gem.
Deleting a mail account causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you were certainly warned that this would happen by the following alert:
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected. For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless.
If the POP account was configured to leave the messages on the server for some time, setting up the account again would cause any messages still on the server to be re-downloaded, just like for IMAP accounts, but this would only work for received mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted .emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Stop using the computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with it may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

It's a disgraceful failure of any customer service by BT.  Had my Btinternet email account since they launched backin ... was it 1997?  Everything digital in my life is spidered into the account now.  Its been used as my registration point for virtually everything for the past fifteen years.  And now getting less than 30 days notice to try and find every single product and website I have registered with and then change all my details?!?!?  Hell, I'd need about a year to do so; and then I would still probably have missed some!  By their actions, they potentially cutting me off from products that I have purchased & tied to this email address.
Add to that the fact that their email that comes into your inbox sources from some dodgy 'analytics planning' website, as all the links route through there... I had serious doubts as to its legitimacy and forwarded it to their abuse contact & opened a case regarding it.  Highly unprofessional of them - especially when you consider that we are repeatedly advised by BT to never click on links unless we are sure of their validity.  And should never, ever, enter our account details on any other site other than theirs.
Shoddy BT, very very shoddy.  I would expect a higher standard of business from such a company.  And would definitely expect a proper notification click through to come up regarding this service change when I log into email.  I would say a good proportion of their users will deregard the email as a phishing attempt.  **bleep** cowboy operation.

  • Deleted Mail Account Recovery, Help Needed !!!!

Hello, today i deleted a mail account in mac mail by mistake.
Is there a way of recovering my received emails from this account?
I have looked in the mail box folder that was in the users library but that was empty, is there any way or getting it all back
    Many Thanks

Stop using your Mac a.s.a.p. as you may be overwriting essential data. Use a serious data recovery program to bring the files back. This is an example program

The folder you need to rescue is

  • Will deleting one outlook mail account delete the contacts in my hotmaiil mail account on my iphone6?

I have a new iphone6 with one hotmail, one gmail, and one other mail.  I added another outlook account that I now want to delete (it never synced and has nothing in it).  I get a warning that if I delete it that it will delete all my hotmail contacts.  Will it actually delete the contacts associated with the hotmail account I want to keep?

    Hi jmknight,
When you disable contact syncing or delete a mail account from the phone, the data that is removed from the phone is ONLY that data that was synced from that account.  So if you previously had [email protected] added to the phone and had contacts synced from that account, those contacts will not be removed from the phone when you delete [email protected] from the phone.  Additionally, it will not ever delete the contacts from the mail server itself (they will still be accessible at hotmail.com through webmail), rather it just un-syncs the contacts from the phone.
    I hope this helps!

  • Mail account deleted but mail keeps asking me to put in password

I have deleted a prior pop mail account from my mail program.  Even though this account does not show up as one of my accounts in the preferences window the mail program keeps asking me to put in my password for the account.  The server for this account doesn't even exist anymore.  Any thoughts on how to get Mail to quit doing this?  I'm using an iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and OS 10.7.5.

The server is probably still in your Outgoing Server list. See this thread:

  • Mail Account Deleted

In setting up a new Mail account and existing account was deleted inadvertently. The account was not backed up. Can the contents of the mailboxes (ie received and sent emails) be recovered?

It all depends on the type of account and how it was configured. For IMAP-type accounts, mail is stored on the server, and setting up the account again is all that's needed to get access to it again.
If you deleted a POP account, however, then all your mail stored locally in that account's mailboxes has certainly been wiped out, not just moved somewhere. For each mail account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, .Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Deleting the account causes this folder and everything within it to be deleted as well.
If the POP account was configured to leave mail on the server for some time instead of removing it right away, incoming mail that's still on the server can be downloaded by setting up the account again, just like for IMAP accounts, but keep in mind that this will only work for incoming (i.e. not sent) mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don't have a backup, your only option is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • Mail account disappears - help?

    Hi,
my pop3 mail account disappears almost every day. So I need to add it again in the mail settings to receive mails. Maybe it has something to do with the mail provider (Strato, a big internet provider in Germany) but I wonder why that should be. Any advices, help?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
as Safari was instabil as well, I decided to reinstall iPhone using the iTunes feature. It worked perfectly, making a data backup first. Since then everything works fine.

  • Mail Account  "Delete"

My mail account was ok and then a few days ago I could'nt delete the messages. When you click on delete (to remove that message from the in-box) the next message gets highlighted, but the message I clicked on to delete is still there and when I go back and click on it the delete now reads undelete. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and know how to fix it?

In mail preferences there is a selection for how long to wait before deleting on the server.
See the last section "Trash" for your account.

  • BT are shutting my e-mail account-Need help!!!

Just found out that my email account will close on 16th sept unless I pay for it as my broadband is with another provider(free as hubby works for other provider). I have had this account for at least 5 years, back in the day it was talk21.
I do have a g-mail account which i've never used its just linked to my mobile, my questions are, Is there an easy way to move every thing I have stored in my mail account over to G-mail (lots as you can imagine over five years) and do I have to notify everyone of my e-mail change where I have used it as a login or can I still use it as a login. Its going to take me till the 16th to sort this out I think

  • After 10.5.5 update, most of my Mail accounts deleted

After doing the 10.5.5 update, I go to Mail, and all but one (my dot Mac) of my business email accounts were deleted. The program asked me if I wanted to see what was new. But actually I wanted to see what was old, like all my important emails. Hundreds of them. The lifesblood of my work. All gone. The only thing preserved was my dot Mac, excuse me, MobileMe account mails.
My smart mailboxes were still there, with many items listed in them, but they were not in my Inbox, and when I selected one, the content area was blank.
Mail Created new folders called "Delivered" and "Delivered 1" but these were empty.
Trashing the prefs did nothing. Repairing permissions did nothing. How can I get my accounts (9) and old emails back?
How on earth could a software update destroy so much important stuff? Does Apple test these things before releasing them?

I had a similar problem with a gmail account. I used data rescue II costs $99 and was able to recover all e-mails that had got deleted.

  • E-mail account deleted-old emails come in when restored

I have email on my PC and don't want to bother with it on my IPhone 3G so I deleted the account. When I wanted to use the IPhone email while on a trip, all the 500 emails downloaded on the phone. Needless to say, this is not what I wanted. How can I keep this from happening? Thanks!!

Thanks for the info. I did what you said and I still got 1800 old messages on my IPhone. I guess what I needed to do per Apple support was go to "Outlook, email, tools, account settings, advanced" and check "delete from server when deleted items folder is emptied". That way, the messages are no longer on the server and will not be loaded onto my Iphone when I re-establish the account. I don't use my Iphone for email very often so this works when I travel.

  • Mail account deleted and lost emails

It happens, especially just switching from MS windows. Maybe the warning just unreadable as any other dialog box.

  • Delete old e-mail account icon

The Icons at the bottom on main screen are Messages, E-Mail (new account), E-Mail (old account), SMS and MMS, Contacts, and Calendar. I want the icon for the old E-Mail account deleted, permanently off my phone. Completely gone everywhere from the phone. Any info on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

  • Mail accounts fail after a few hours

    iMac 24" OS 10.6.8 / Mail 4.6
A month ago my Mail accounts intermittantly stopped connecting to the incoming and outgoing servers, and as of last week the connections are completely down.
I use two email addresses associated with my own domains; one is a .com and one is a .me. Each address has a POP account in Apple Mail, though of course the incoming and outgoing server settings and ports are the same for both accounts.
When I run Connection Doctor, sometimes I'll get red lights indicating failures, and some times I get a green light on both inbound and outbound connections on both accounts. Whether it's red or green doesn't seem to matter, as the mail doesn't send or receive, no matter the test result.
I was running Sophos, so I uninstalled that and re-booted.
I've re-booted the modem and checked for firmware updates, though the internet connection hasn't ever been a problem.
I deleted the Mail accounts, deleted the Mail plist file, deleted the passwords from Keychain, and re-created the accounts from scratch. Both accounts ran (hello to a month's worth of never-received emails!) for a short while, but within a few hours neither account would connect to the servers. The error messages vary, either  "Cannot connect to the server, would you like to try another server?" or "Enter the password..." Neither server ever works, and passwords aren't recognized.
It gets weirder. I have another iMac running 10.8.5, and the .com account operates without fail, while the .me account cannot connect - even though the settings are identical. When I try to send from the .me account I get a dialog box asking me to try the .com account's server, which works every time. Mail flows flawlessly to both accounts on my iPod Touch 4th Gen, and to my MacBook Air.
My host is Godaddy, my ISP is Century Link. Both accounts are fully functional via Godaddy's webmail-based servers. Century Link has no suggestions. Does anyone have a wizard of an idea?
