Mail Account Preferences problem

I am trying to update my mail account. When I open Preferences, click on the account, but it does not allow me to enter an email address, let alone several separated by commas. How can I adjust this? Thanks,

What is the precise error you are receiving from the server? Does it say it cannot authenticate with that username and password?
What do you have your SMTP server set as? Is it SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET? If so, try these different ports.
SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET:25
SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET:80
SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET:3535
It could be that your host does not allow you to send mail through SMTP servers other than theirs. If using the above servers and ports does not work, try your ISP's SMTP server.

  • IPod Mail Accounts Syncing Problem

    Hi,
I keep getting the following error message when I try to sync my iPod Touch.
"iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPod "Name" because an error occurred remapping record identifiers.
Try syncing your iPod again. If the problem persists, replace the mail accounts on the iPod from the Info tab in the iPod preferences."
Anyone got any ideas? It's only just started a couple of days ago.
    Thanks,
    Mel

    Greetings, again, Mel -
Another forum response seems to have fixed the problem for me. From Christopher Archer comes this:
"...a much simpler "solution" to this problem. It worked for me as well as a few others. Before you sync...go to the info tab. Down at the bottom is says that during the next sync it will basically overwrite the information on the iPhone. I selected mail...since that was the error to begin with...and synced. Did fine...ran a normal sync to be safe and I'm back up and jogging."
    ...Me, too.

  • Mail account sync problem

    Hi
Was using Outlook the other day and got an error on an IMAP account so had to remove and add the account to Outlook again. Just syncing my iPhone 4 with iTunes and the sync stays at 'Syncing mail accounts'. No error message, just stays at this stage. So I cancelled the sync, deleted the particular account from the phone and tried to sync again in the hope it would work. Still not.
Anyone got any tips or advice? Obviously I can add the email account manually on the phone again, but this isn't going to stop the sync process in the future. Is there a way of disabling this stage of the sync process?
    Thanks
    Ricky

I solved this (pretty much) by just taking the entire user/library/mail folder from the machine that had all 3 of my gmail accounts syncing correctly , i.e. delete and replace on the mbp that had a stuck account. So now the sync works as expected by my overall mail count is not exact: on the imac it's currently Inbox (1203 messages) and on the mbp it's Inbox (1138 messages). The difference must be back in time, and not within the last few weeks as I checked back that far and things seem to match up on both machines. It would be nice to fix, but not imperative, assuming whatever is missing is still on the Gmail website...somewhere. So I'll keep this post open in case anyone has more ideas. cheers,

  • Cannot enter my full name in mail account preferences

iMac 24-inch, Early 2008, OS 10.8.2:  When I send email from my icloud email account, some recipients report seeing only my email address in the from line at the top of the email without my real name.  I opened Mail preferences and the Full Name: box is greyed out and reads "Your Name" instead of my name under the accounts tab.  How can I unlock and access this box to enter my real name?  BTW, I went to the iCloud website, logged in, and went to the account prefs under the web based iCloud mail prefs.  This box was editable and already showed my name.  I deleted it and re-entered my full name.  When i returned to the Mail app on my iMac, the Your Name box still reads "Full Name" in grey, un-editable.  I tried a test email sent to my husband's email and it still reads just my email address without my name at the top.  How do I fix this?  Thank you in advance.

Go into your icloud preferences and uncheck mail.  Give it a minute or so, then check it out.
I tested that after changing my full name on the website.  The name updated in my mail.app, but not until I unchecked/rechecked.

  • Adding existing mail account - Technical problem

    A bit of background...
I run my own mailserver (Exim 4) and wish to add my current email account to my blackberry service through T-Mobile in the UK ([email protected])
In order to do this I have to use T-Mobile's webpage to add the account details, however thsi si what is causing me the headache. After adding all the details the webpage runs a script to connect to my server in order to establish a trust relationship (so I am told by T-Mobile tech support) The page produces an error saying "An error occurred during email account verification. Please check your information and try again"
When checking the error logs on my server I see this:-
2008-04-18 15:13:40 SMTP protocol violation: synchronization error (input sent without waiting for greeting): rejected connection from H=mail.bis.eu.blackberry.com [216.9.253.4]
Basically from what I can tell script that runs the verification check does not wait for the usual greetings for each line of input from the server.
I have made the suggested changes to the exim.conf file (googled the error) but I am still having the same problem.
What I need to know is if anyone knows a way to add this account without using my providers webpage?
    Regards
    Jerry

Have you tried to add from your BB. Just go to SetUp Email on the menu screen on your BB and Click add Email Account. It might work that way.

  • GMail/Mail account-switching problem

I recently switched over to using Apple's Mail program to manage my email. I maintain three accounts, all GMail-based. The first several weeks of being on Mail instead of my old provider (Sparrow) were fine, but lately, I'm noticing that Mail is screwing up what address I'm sending/receiving from fairly frequently.
If my three accounts were "[email protected]", "[email protected]" and "[email protected]", I'm very frequently seeing mail that I'm 100% sure I sent from "[email protected]" get responses in the "[email protected]" folder. The signatures are accurate to where it was sent from, but the email address switched somewhere.
Case in point, an email I sent from "[email protected]" will get a response in the "[email protected]" folder. I'll look, and the email I sent will have the correct, "[email protected]" signature, but it will have been sent from "[email protected]" and will subsequently elicit replies to that address.
(Interestingly, it doesn't mix it up with the third, "[email protected]" email address. Only the first two.)
Considering one email is a personal account and one is a work account, this is a pretty significant error, and it's got to be fixed. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Ensure that each account has the correct smtp server setup, and then check this box.
    Do it for each account.

  • Backup Mail account settings before upgrade

I want to backup my account settings before I do a complete fresh install of the OS, to save having to setup all my e-mail accounts again.
I see you can Archive mail boxes, but to me this sounds like an archive of the actuall mail, and not the actuall POP settings.
How do I backup the settings (POP servers, usernames, custom ports etc)?
This is not mentioned in the Mail Help built in to the app at all.
    Neil

Why do you need to reinstall the entire OS from scratch; what's wrong with it?
It keeps crashing, freezing up, Windows appear half off the screen, and not draggable, some times un selectable, Context (Right click) Menu often appears on random parts of the screen, often get the Press and Hold Power button to restart message. Something major is up with it. Re install is the easist way to go.
The best way to backup things is to have a bootable backup on it's own separate hard drive; if you currently don't have that, it's time to get it so you can prevent a catastrophe in the future. Your hard drive in the Mac will die someday.
I have plenty of data backups. I have a 4 HDD Mac Pro workstaion. 500gb is boot drive, 1 TB for user home folders, 1Tb as Time machine drive, and 1 TB as original data drive. Data is nightly backed up to a 1,5TB FreeNAS box in the attic which is mirrored to a second drive inthe same box, plus a weekly SSH to a remote box at my fathers house.
I do have Carbon Copy Clones and Super Duper copies of the boot drive, but these problems have been going on since those backups have been created. I did not plan much of a backup strategy for the OS, as I had been lead to believe that the OS was so good/stable failures like I am experiencing do not occur. I should be able to do a Time machine restore of the OS boot drive anyway. So if my thinking is correct I could probably do away with the bootable backup. But I still have the CCC and SD copies just in case. I would also like to have a clean fully running install before upgrading to Snow Leopard next month.
If you just need to backup your Mail account preferences, copy the com.apple.mail.plist file from Home/Library/Preferences to a separate CD or hard drive, along with your mail. Then restore it to the same location when you're done reinstalling everything else, before you start Mail.
OK, great the plist file...should have guessed that really
    Thanks

  • POP E-mail account password

My POP mail account is not working. I've had this computer a long time and I intend to get a new one
because it's so out of date but in the mean time I need to get this problem fixed. The problem is with the
password. I NEVER had to type it in. It was always in there in mail preferences/accounts (all in asterisks*****)
For reasons I can't figure out, the password is no longer there. In keychain access there is no
indication of any mail account and password. When I click on "get mail" I get a prompt that asks for
a password. I have no idea what it is! My e-mail server is Time Warner Cable. They have no idea
what I'm talking about. I opened a g mail account just so I can do some e-mailing but I hate the format
and I want to continue to send and receive e-mails at my POP account and Time Warner e-mail address
as I have many business cards with that address on it. How can I fix the Pop e-mail account password
problem? Should I contact Apple and pay to ask them a question? I'm really perplexed. Even though
"mail" is not in my keychain access list, I tried to look at other passwords for other things and a prompt
asks me for a "keychain access password". I never had one! But that's a different issue. For now I'll settle for
a solution to my POP password problem.

Thank u for your suggestions. I'm the only one who uses this computer but I do have another mail account with g-mail which I only opened after the POP account failed. I repaired the keychain access to no avail but it did say that there was "no problem" with the chain. I reset the chain and I still can't send or receive e-mails from my POP account. I called Time Warner cable and they said they thought there could be a problem on their end and they
were checking it out. But the problem remains that even if they fix the problem that is rejecting my e-mail password, I now have no e-mail password to type in. It used to be saved in Preferences and now it's no longer there. If I can't retrieve the password from somewhere (it's not on my keychain access list) I don't know how to get the password or create a new one. As a result of resetting the keychain I now have a keychain access password. But there's no POP account or any mail app in the keychain list to use it with.

  • Cannot remove Internet-/Mail Accounts (can't even see them).

    Hey.
I don't know whats up with this, but when I go to my mail account preferences and press the "-" (minus) it says that "The mail account [email protected] is shared by other applications on this mac. You can remove it from Internet Accounts" and offers me a button to go directly to Internet Accounts. When I go there - I don't see the account. I have several emails installed and I cannot delete a single one. None of them is showing.
    Any help?

    Operating system is Yosemite.

  • Mail Accounts disappear!

Mail seemed to freeze up today - wouldn't send an Email - and when I quit and then restarted Mail, it came up with non of my POP Email Inboxes showing!
Just the .Mac Inbox was there - all other inboxes were no longer showing on the left.
    Anyone seen this???
I checked my Library/Mail folder, and the POP inbox folders are still there - but Mail does not see them.
All apple support could suggest was manually re-configuring each account from scratch, inputting the Email details, servers, passwords etc etc - a real pain
Anyone any ideas as to how I could get Mail to re-recognize my accounts????
    Thx.
    Chris.

LOL, make me #4 because it happened to me as well. I was sending a mail message at the time and my computer completely locked up. No kernel panic messages, it just froze. After a restart and I launched mail all my email accounts except for my .mac were gone from my mail account preferences. Luckily my mail folder was fine, it seems the preference was corrupted. So my advice is to locate a com.apple.mail preference from your backup and replace your current one. Worked for me finally.
The good news is I took this opportunity to convert all 6 of my Gmail accounts from pop to imap.

  • All new mail accounts fail

We are putting new mail accounts on an existing server, some users have accounts and we are adding new mail accounts for them in addition to their old accounts in the info section of the user account tab. Other new users are getting new mail accounts.
    Problem...
All new mail accounts are not setting up correctly you cannot connect and also any mail delivered to the accounts comes back as user not found.
I have checked the Admin > Server > Access > Allow all users and groups
    The logs look like this...

  • How to not show both mail accounts in mail app

My wife and I share a Macbook Pro, and both have our mail accounts set up using the Mail.app.
When I start the Mail.app, I can see and access both mail accounts even though we have seperate inboxes.  Is there a way to separate these so I don't see her mail and she doesn't see mine?
There is not user log in required on the Macbook.  Do I need to create separate user accounts to have the Mail.app only show me my mail?
    Ray

The correct way to do this is to create a separate account for each of you and disable automatic login when prompted. Under Accounts I would also activate Fast User Switching if the two of you use it at the same time. Then each of you will have your own user directory and this will segregate all of your user data into two separate user folders and you can act separately.
If it is just a convenience thing then download another email program, like Thunderbird, and each of you can simply use a separate program and neither will be bothered with the others email.
Also unchecking the "enable this account" in the Mail > Account preferences will cause an account to "disappear" from the Inbox view until the box is rechecked. But this is only a solution if one of you uses the account occasionally like on long weekends or something.
I think the separate accounts option is what you want from your description but there a few less drastic options.
